Asked to enter password for Apple ID that is not mine

I am trying to update my apps. I just upgraded from a 4s to a 5s, and am reinstalling my apps. However, when I hit update, my phone asks me to enter a password for an Apple ID that is not my own. Under settings in iCloud, it says the account is my own, yet every time I attempt to update, I am asked for the password to a different apple account. I literally got the phone just about 30 minutes ago. Does anyone know what may be wrong and what I can do?

Presumably this is a second-hand phone? The previous owner has from the sound of it set 'Activation Lock', an anti-theft precaution. He should have removed it before selling it.
If a second-hand iOS device has been 'Activation locked' then only the previous owner can unlock it, either by providing you with the account ID and password, or by removing it from his list of devices  - please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4515
If you are unable to contact him to do this then I'm afraid you will not be able to use the device - there is no other way of unlocking it at all. Apple cannot unlock it for you.
You should if possible return it to wherever you bought it and ask for a refund as in this event the device is completely useless.
If in fact it's a new phone then it shouldn't be possible for this problem to arise and again you will have to take it back to wherever you bought it from.

  • 4s asking password for apple id that is not mine

    Hi,
Just bought a 4S last night.  Everything is working fine except for one thing.  The iPhone constantly asks me to put in the password for an apple id that I have never had any association with.  I hit cancel, but it just keeps popping up.  I have tried erasing that id and typing my id and password in, but it still keeps popping back up.  How do I get rid of it.

Was any of your content (music, movies, apps, etc) purchased with another Apple Store account ID?  Is this the same as the one that keeps popping up?
    If you know the ID:
in iTunes on your computer, sign out of your regular account.  Sign in with the other account (the one that keeps coming up), and Authorize that computer to that account.
Sign out of that account, and sign back in with your usual account.
That may take care of it after your next sync with your iPhone.
(Basically, your phone was synced with Account A, but some of your apps/media were purchased for Account B.  We want to tell your computer that this account and its media are OK.)

  • Keeps asking for apple Id that is not mine

I reset my iPad and now it keeps asking for apple ida that are not mine.  How can i get it to stop?

Does that id show on the right-hand side of Settings > Store or does yours show ? If the wrong one shows then logout of it by tapping on it and then log in with your .
Do you recognise the id that is being shown - is it one that you've previously used (in which case any apps that you bought/downloaded with it can only be re-downloaded or updated via it) or is it a friend's id ( have you ever connected to somebody else's computer/iTunes)

  • Why is my iTunes asking for me to confirm password for an ID that's not mine?

    Hi guys,
First timer here! A pretty weird but potentiallly serious issue here...
Firstly, this is not for me but to help a colleague. He left his MacBook Pro in a taxi a few weeks ago and it's since been lost, we tried using 'Find my Mac' through iCloud but it hasn't worked, I presume because the machine hasn't gone online on that user account, as it was password protected?
He's since bought himself a NEW MacBook Pro and started using it afresh, not restoring from any backup or anything (as unfortunately his TimeMachine backup was corrupted!).
Now, when using iTunes, he's being asked to 'confirm his details' of his Apple ID, however, it's showing a completely random email address - not his and not anyone he knows. Noone has owned either MacBook that he's used before him so that's not the issue, and he's only ever used his own personal Apple ID.
    My question is:
1 - how is this possible? How can iTunes ask for confirmation of details to an iTunes ID / account that has NOTHING to do with that Mac?
2 - is it possible that this strange Apple ID that the machine is asking to be confirmed is of someone that may have the old MacBook Pro?
    Thanks - appreciate the help!
    Alex

I only know a little about this subject.
What OS version was the lost Mac running?  "Find My Mac" is only a feature with Lion, and of course had to be activated.
I don't know about newer MacOS but on older versions it was a relatively simple manner to bypass the system level password feature if you had actual physical possession of a computer.  There were several different levels on which you could enable passwords, including the stronger firmware or EFI password which I believe required re-setting at an Apple repair center.
Don't forget that once you have physical possession of a computer you can do all kinds of things such as swapping out drives and using his drive in another computer, simply wiping the old one.  I don't know how AppleID works but presumably it has some way of detecting specific hardware identity in order to use authorization for things such as movies.  I don't know how this would get tied up in what you have observed.
Your friend should probably re-set passwords on any accounts that use them and monitor his/her credit card.

Trying to update an app from appstore list, but requests a pass for an apple id that is not mine! how can it be?

The app must have been downloaded by somebody else that used their Apple ID on your iPad, since purchases are always tied to the ID that was used to make the purchase. Unless your iPad is glued to your side 24 hours a day and nobody has ever used the iPad but you, then anybody that has ever used your iPad could have done it.

When I try to sync my ipod it comes up with a different apple id that is not mine.

You don't need to have your iPod plugged in to access your iTunes library?
I'm not really sure what it is you are trying to do. :S
So you plug your iPod in and open iTunes and are prompted for a username and password for an Apple ID that is not yours?  If so, what does this prompt say exactly?

  • A app on my apple acct that is not mine & I can not get rid of it

a app on my apple acct that is not mine & I can not get rid of it

As you didn't answer the question we have to assume that someone else loaded that app onto your machine.   If that is the case they will have to tell you what ID details they used to do that.   By using those same details you can update it if necessary.
But it would appear you want to be rid of it and while you can remove the app itself from your machine by deleting it, you can't remove its trace from your purchase records.   I believe that would apply even if you edited your appleID and chose another one.   Future downloads could be made and updates accessed by the new account but the old records would remain.

  • HT201363 Change apple id that is not mine on iMac

When prompted to update my apps on my iMac, it auto generates an apple id that is not mine and I am unable to change it.  An email address that is not mine is in the sign-in field and is grayed out so I can't make any changes.

Then it is not backed up.
Get an external drive, turn Time Machine on and let it complete a backup.

  • HT4314 Re Game Center password:  can you set a password for Game Center that is NOT your Apple ID password?

I'm changing online passwords for email and other online applications due to hacking in my mail account.  Gaming applications are included in this process.  Currently my Game Center account password is my Apple ID password.  Can I change the Game Center account password independently, or do I have to change my Apple ID password across the board (for iTunes, Game Center, etc) ?

You reset your password the same you would for any id.

  • Every single time I reboot, I have to enter passwords for Apple ID's

When I reboot my MBP, it tells me that this computer is not authorized to play, sync, etc.. with my iPod (or iPhone) and asks me for my password.  With I enter it, I get a message that says "This computer is already authorized".  I have 4 Apple ID's and it asks me to enter that information for every single one and tells me that the computer is already authorized.
I never had this behaviour in the past.  I allowed the Mavericks update just about the same time that AppleCare put a new Motherboard in this computer, so I don't know if either of those has anything to do with this or not?
How can I enter this ONCE and make it stick?
    Thanks,
    Kirk

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Some have virtualization features that can cause problems by protecting and restoring files in the Firefox profile folder on a reboot.
