Asked to quit iphoto for update but already quit?

I am trying to update iPhoto from the app store but I was promted to quit iPhoto (see pic, German) even though it's not even opened. I can't cancel the updating process nor can I shut down my macbook (it even says it might hurt my software if I interrupt now...). I tried lauching iPhoto and quitting again, but that does't do anything.
What should I do?

Try force quitting. Click Force Quit from your Apple menu icon top left corner in your screen. From the drop down menu click Force Quit. Select App Store then click Force Quit.
Or, try Command + Option + Esc on your keyboard.
Or, you can force quit apps using Activity Monitor located in HD > Applications > Utilities.
There's a work around for problems updating apps from the App Store.
Uninstall the iPhoto app using this free utility > Download AppCleaner for Mac
Then follow these instructions for reinstalling. That will install the latest iPhoto version for you which is 9.3.2.

Background:
In options I have "check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them" ticked. This works fine, in that I periodically receive a notice of an available update, and it will ask me whether I want to I want to install it.
But there are certain times -- for reasons I won't go into here (unless requested as part of seeking a solution) -- where I want to manually check for new versions, but RETAIN the ability to decide whether or not to install it. But if I click Help/About Firefox/Check for Updates, and it finds an update, it will immediately proceed to install it without asking for permission. While that seems quite inconsistent with my update preferences in Options, it is apparently normal behavior as described in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version#w_how-do-i-manually-check-for-updates.
So is there any way I can manually check for new-update availability but then refuse the update if I so choose? Once an unwanted install begins, I'm concerned that if I click cancel I could end up with a partial installation or some "messed up," duplicated or corrupted FF files (e.g., multiple versions appended with (1), (2) etc, similar to what sometimes confusingly happens when I do an XP System Restore).

I think what needs to be made very clear here is that when a user clicks on "check for updates" the software should bloody well CHECK for updates and most certainly SHOULD NOT proceed to download and apply any updates. this is misleading and intrusive.
I just wanted to check if there was an updated version but I DID NOT want to actually update at that moment. the software downloaded data, costing me money and tried to apply the update which could have potentially messed up my settings if I had not checked everything was ok first.
I actually discovered how to prevent the update by searching through windows and manually deleting the files but why should anyone have to go to such lengths?
the software should simply do as it is asked, not do things that have most certainly not been asked.

That message means that you have to restore the iPad now. There was a problem with the update. So connect the iPad to your computer and restore your iPad.

Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

You should not get that message if you are simply trying to load the shuffle with songs from your iTunes library. If iTunes is trying to Update or Restore the shuffle, and you get that message, try the suggestions in this article

I don't know why you are getting these errors. Try downloading & installing the updates manually from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html

Why is Firefox connecting to the Internet and installing updates when I have checked the option to "Check for updates, but let me choose where to install"?

Firefox is connecting to the Internet by itself (i.e., I have not opened the browser) and then installing updates (e.g., Firefox 28 today) even though I have checked the option under Advanced to "Check for updates, but let me choose where to install." Often videos and ads will stops, replaced with a grey and white exclamation mark, and eventually a notice that I need to update flash player. Clicking on them brings me to an update page, but I often find that it's for the update I already have when I check which version I have under programs on my computer. It can usually be circumvented by closing all the Internet Explorer tabs and reopening them, but it's been a significant disruption, and I was wondering if there was a way to avoid it. It seems to sometimes be caused by pages with lots of ads loading at once, but isn't solved until I've closed every tab at once (i.e. if I leave one open, then open a new one the problem persists), and sometimes takes multiple tries. I can't remember if attempting to update when I already have the update works.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks... I did try that. To add to the mess, I just saw some update on my Macbook Air App Store and it did the same as on my iphone. I would not accept my new password.
I then saw that my iphone had some updates. I requested to update all. It asked for my password and I entered it. It downloaded some of the update but not others and also gave me the message that I put in the wrong password.

App store says update but already updated

The App Store on my iMac shows one update as available. I even get notifications that there is an update available. The problem is that the app it says has an update has already been updated and it says "Installed". There seems to be no way to get the App Store to remove it from the Updates page. It constantly says there is one update available. Any suggestions?

I also have a simlar problem which occured after selecting a multiple update, unfortunatley i now have an outstanding update showing for i photo where the button is greyed out showing installed, i have been in contact with apple, who gave me a few suggestions including signing in and out, checking for unfinished downloads (initally there was also a red error message next to the update saying download failed) this cleared the error message but the app store still shows there is an outstanding update which is already updated.

How can I change the time of photos in info in iPhoto for iOS. I've done it in iPhoto for Mac but when I sync to my ipad the info field goes back to the camera time ignoring "modify original files" in iPhoto for Mac?

I used "adjust date and time" and"modify original files" to correct the time of photos taken on a camera used in Peru which was set to UK rather than local time. which is 6 hours behind. This was to bring them into line with shots taken with other cameras set to local time. This was using iphoto 08 on a Mac. I then synced to my iPad. The photos stayed in the correct order in photos but in iphoto (iOS version) the original dates appear (the camera dates) and so the photos are out of chronological order again. This looks like a bug but is there a fix?

don't know what you mean by "write to master" but speculate that it means modify the original times, in which case the taken times on the camera should no longer be present
No,I meant your using the option "modify original files" will do exactly that - change the capture date original master files stored in the iPhoto library. Only when you do that, the "date modified" of your original files will be changed as well, and it will now be the date of your manipulation of the capture date.
Oh - I hadnt considered that possibility - but of that were the case, why don't my manipulated photos go to the end of the sequence as I have done all the manipulation after the end of the holiday??

"on ipad this is the Photos tab" - but this displays as per the original sequence ignoring time adjustments - the manipulations seem to be ignored (but are reflected in the album in the photos tab) and the photos tahat have been modified stay in their original positiom - they don't get put the end
Because the library uses a different date - the date modified - the date of the last time the file has been changed in any way - any editing you do to your image, including adjust date and time will change the "date modified"
This may change the sorting of the database but it appears not to influence the order in the albums
