Asking for system password

We recently bought 3 new Intel Core Duo running 10.4.8 but we have to downgrade to 10.4.7 since our POS manufacturer informs us that there are some issues with 10.4.8.
The downgrade seems okay but when we try to change the date in the Point of Sale system, it is now asking to enter the system password. I tried entering the admin password but it would not accept it or even worse, would give a date that is far way off (say 2037). I contacted our POS manufacturer and they are insisting that we just simply enter the system password that was used when the operating system was installed. Please help!!

I was already using 10.7. But only had the disc for 10.6.

  • How to stop the system to ask for a password

How to make the system from asking for a password for every installation???

You can't do that.  Apple is very careful to make sure that only an authorized person does installations.

  • System Preferences is asking for user password three times (?)

System Preferences>Startup Disk requires the user password to unlock the pane (per my security settings), I select my startup choice (my main HD), then upon re-locking the pane I am asked for the password two more times.
    ?

Then, don't relock the lock, just restart.

    Then, see if this works:

If you are running Lion or Mountain Lion you may need to do the following to access the same utility:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

  • [Solved] System asks for encryption password multiple times

    Hey guys,
    I have following problem:
I am using dmcrypt for encryption of my hard drive but it seems like I have made a mistake when I installed it. But for the most time I ignored it.
When I start my system it ask for the encryption password normally. The strange thing is that it also asks for the Password when services start.
If I issue a command with systemctl start XXX I also get following message:
Please enter passphrase for disk Crucial_CTXXXXXSSD1 (lukslvm)
There is no problem if I just press Enter and go on actually but this still bugs me.
I wonder what I did wrong at that time.
    Edit:
    /etc/crypttab:
    lukslvm UUID=xxxxxxxxxxx------xxxxxxxxxx none luks
    lvm pvscan:
    PV /dev/mapper/vgarch   VG vgarch   lvm2 [223,38 GiB / 0    free]
      Total: 1 [223,38 GiB] / in use: 1 [223,38 GiB] / in no VG: 0 [0   ]

Fixed by removing the entry in /etc/crypttab
I don't even remember adding it there but it has been already some years.

I have updated my username and password, but the system keeps asking for my password for an old email for which I have no password.. How can I fix this?

Are you signed into this old ID ("email") in System Preferences>iCloud, System Preferences>Internet Accounts (Mail,Contacts,Calendars), or in Mail>Accounts, Calendar>Accounts or Contacts>Accounts?

    Hi SheilaStuhr,
The troubleshooting steps detailed below can help get you connected to your iPhone's personal hostpot.
    Basic troubleshooting
See if your iOS device, computer, and wireless plan all meet the system requirements for Personal Hotspot.
Make sure Personal Hotspot is on: Tap Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Check the Internet connection on your iOS device: Tap Safari and load a new webpage.
If one connection type doesn't work, try another. For example, instead of connecting using Wi-Fi, use USB or Bluetooth.
Turn Personal Hotspot off and on: Tap Settings > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Install the latest version of iOS.
Reset your network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If you still see the issue, restore the iPhone.
If you're still experiencing issues, try the steps below.
    Wi-Fi troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using Personal Hotspot with other Wi-Fi devices, try these steps:
    Turn Personal Hotspot off.
    Turn on Wi-Fi: Tap Settings > Wi-Fi.
    Turn on Personal Hotspot.
If another device can't join your Wi-Fi network, make sure the Wi-Fi password is correct.
If the device can't see your Wi-Fi network, check your device name. Windows may not correctly show a device name that uses non-ASCII characters.
See how many devices are using your Personal Hotspot. Depending on your wireless carrier, the number of Wi-Fi connections may be limited to three devices at once.
If the other device still can't connect, turn Wi-Fi off and on for the device.
Make sure that your device can see other Wi-Fi networks.
Note: If you see "Unable to Join" or a timeout error when you try to connect a device using Wi-Fi, remain on the Personal Hotspot screen until the first device connects. After the device connects, you can leave the Personal Hotspot screen and use your iPhone normally. Your device will stop broadcasting Wi-Fi if you put it to sleep or if 90 seconds elapse and no connected devices use Wi-Fi. To share your Wi-Fi network again, tap Settings > Personal Hotspot.

  • When attempting to reset my password using the Install disc, I can't get into the system since I am asked for my password when I initiate the disc.  What now?

I lost my MAC password and was advised to use the "MAC" install disc.  With the "install disc" installed, I initiate the program and it asks for my "password" to continue.  What do I do now since I am unable to offer the correct password.  Sure would like to discuss this with a computer expert.  I am really frustrated since I can't update programs due to the lost password?

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.

  • I get asked for a password when i did not yet set one (after a system reset for the same problem)

I am getting asked for a password when i have yet to set one.  I have already done a reset and am still getting prompted for a password, which I do not know.

If you can't remember the Restrictions passcode you have to either:
    - Restore the iPod from a backup that does not have the passcode, or
    - Restore the iPod to factory settings/new iPod.

  • IOs 8.1 Mail app keeps asking for iCloud password

Since the update to iOs 8.1 i have a problem with my mailbox.
Every time i want to create a new mail, it asks me for my iCloud password.
This happens on my iPhone (6) and iPad (Air) while im in my iCloud inbox, Gmail inbox, or just the general overview.
Whenever i press the create new mail icon it will ask for my iCloud password.
    - When i give the iCloud password (correct one) it wont ask for it again in the next 15 mins
    - When i dont give the iCloud password (cancel) i can just send mails but it will ask for the password whenever i create a new mail.
    What i did:
    - Remove iCloud account > reboot > Add iCloud account > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove Keychain  > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove iCloud photo's > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove iCloud mail > still asks for the iCloud password.
    - Remove iCloud > solves the problem but i dont want to remove iCloud
    - Disabled all iCloud options, (mail, contacts, etc) > didnt solve the problem
    - Disabled 2 step verification > didnt solve the problem
Everytime i want to create a new mail, u see the phone/pad use the "syncing icon" 3x 5 seconds, maybe a link here?
Anyone else with any ideas that i can try?

That's interesting that it didn't start to happen after a while on your work iPad. I just tried my iPad this evening and I'm getting the same iCloud password popup message when I try to create a new mail or enable "Contacts Only' in Airdrop.
I still think it's a problem with our iCloud accounts. Some flag in the system isn't set or something for some reason. I don't even have mail switched on in my iCloud account so there is no valid reason why Mail.app would try and authenticate to iCloud just because we create a new email.
Signing out of iCloud fixes the issue for me (not that it's a valid long term solution) so that points the finger directly at a setting on my server side iCloud account I think.

  • A pop up window asking for my password?

Ever since I changed the admistrators password, this stupid window keeps popping up.
I've searched everywhere and it's driving me crazy LOL All I do is cancel it (hit the red circle)but it keeps coming back.
    any ideas?
It says that Safari is asking for the password...

This is in the Help section..and it isn't true. I never DID create a keychain password. And, it is NOT the same password as my login password. I've tried every password I've ever used, and NONE OF THEM WORK. This is really (oh, excuse me while I hit the cancel button twice) ARGH The only password I ever set was the adminstrator one. I used to set Screen Saver passwords on PC's with ease...the Mac password system is wayyy too complicated.
    ========================
You start with a single keychain, which is created automatically the first time you log in to your Mac OS X user account. Your default keychain has the same password as your login password. This keychain is unlocked automatically when you log in to Mac OS X and is referred to in Keychain Access menus as the "login" keychain.
You can create different keychains to store passwords for different purposes (for example, one for work and one for online shopping) or make a copy of a keychain so you can take it with you to other computers.
Keychains can be accessible to just a single user or sha

R Jones I have the same problem. Running Windows-ME. Oracle9i installs without any complaints.
I bypassed all configuration setup because it was 'supposedly' optional and because
I had no idea of what to enter in many fields. When I fire-up SQL-plus, a login window
pops up asking for username, password, and hoststring. I tried predefined login/password
combinations SYSTEM/MANAGER and SCOTT/TIGER, but entered no host string,
and get an oracle error message 'protocol adapter error'.
If I bypass the login by entering command line string 'sqlplus.exe /NOLOG', I get
oracle error message 'not connected' whenever I try to execute an SQL statement.
What am I missing in my configuration setup, OR is there an incompatibility with Windows-ME ?
