I am interested in obtaining a CLAD certificate. I live in Beirut. I have found some test centers from http://www7.pearsonvue.com/Dispatcher?application=VTCLocator&action=actStartApp&v=W2L&cid=383 but I didnt get a reply when I asked them about cost/time.
Can you help me by answering the questions?
How much does CLAD cost? When can I sit for such an examination?
P.S. I've been using LabVIEW for 5 month already.

    Hi A.A.A.,
I'm glad to hear you are interested in pursuing your Associate Developer Certification. With regards to pricing and scheduling your exam, I recommend you contact the Certification specialists at your local National Instruments office. I believe that is National Instruments Arabia. You can send an email with your questions to [email protected] or phone # +961-1-33 28 28, and they will work with you to purchase and schedule your CLAD exam.
Five months is a great start at familiarizing yourself with the LabVIEW environment. However, I definitely recommend taking a look at the exam preparation materials to ensure you are familiar with all the topics and terminology you could be tested on. If you go to the Certification Preparation Page (the link I included below) and select the Associate Developer exam and your timeframe, the page will return all the official preparation resources the Certification Development team has made available online. We also have some other posts on this forum with regards to exam preparation.

  • I have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

i have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

You just need a powered hub.. if you already use one then fine.
Plug in just about any external hard disk will work fine. Format has to be readable by the TC.. ie fat32.. or much better HFS+.. plug it into a Mac to prepare the drive.
Pick whatever size suits.. nowadays 2TB are most economical.
WD, Seagate have goobled up all the minor players.. so pick one.
Whatever suits your budget and asthetics.
NOTE.. The USB on the TC is fine for printers.. IMHO it is the wrong way to go with USB disks.. use the internal disk of the TC.. USB is less than half the native speed plugged into a Mac.. TC to USB is slow.. far slower than internal drive.. or using external drive as external.

You can't get there with GUID/GPT.
There are tips on making a USB flash device that is bootable.
You can set aside a small 6GB partition somewhere and put Windows 7 installer there and run it WHILE IN Windows.
Windows Vista can be upgraded in place to 7 RC.
    You'll need NTFS (30-50GB).
Windows doesn't support FW for booting.
You can create a drive that has Master Boot Record.

  • Best Tips for Java Beginners?

    Hello all,
I study at Open United kingdom (Information Technology), and started to study basics of Java.
We use Netbeans, & I wanted to ask experts here what's the best way to develop myself at Java programming?
"Practice, Practice, & Practice...", thats what the material says.. But I need some sources to guide me with simple Java programs to start to practice with...
so please share any tip may be useful to Java beginners from your own experience.
    Thanks.

Tips for beginners that I have taught in the past and from me:
0 - The debugger is your friend. Learn to use it, before you lean any more Java. REALLY!!!
1 - Do NOT use the GUI development tool in your IDE, Code it yourself.
2 - Read the Java Tutorials.
3 - Java arrays begin with index 0.
4 - Do NOT confuse leaning Java with learning to program. They are 2 distinct things.
The language is a tool, but knowing how to program is a skill that will apply to many different tools.
5 - There are more languages than Java, keep in mind each, including Java, were created for different tasks.
6 - Develop your own style.
7 - You are never done learning. NEVER.
8 - Don't be afraid to modify your style, when you see something elegant, adopt it, make it part of your style.
9 - If you're not having fun, you're doing the wrong thing.
10 - Math is a major part of programming: you can never have too many Math skills.
11 - Embrace the Java philosophy... write once, run anywhere a JVM exists.
12 - Dumb code is actually better: don't get overly involved in optimizing your code--write it clean--Java will do the rest.
13 - Learn to use your profiler, for when you really need to see if you can optimize. The problem is usually not where you think.
14 - No matter how good you are, someone is always better and faster--when you encounter them, learn from what they do and use the good parts.
15 - 800 lines of buggy code is not as good as 50 lines of clean, well designed code.
16 - Your teacher is not always right, but they give you the grades.
17 - Your boss may be an idiot, but he had the good sense, or lapse there of, to offer you a job and you accepted. He's your boss now, act like it, and help him look good--you'll go farther with a lot less stress. Also remember you future boss may want to contact him for a reference.

  • Tips for when your webcam is not detected

EDIT:  If you have recently upgraded to Windows 8 and are experiencing this issue please read this document.
Here are some tips for resolving a webcam not detected problem.  I see this question get asked a lot so here are the steps you should take to resolve the issue.
To begin you should make sure the device is being detected by Windows.  The following instructions are for Windows 7, but should be very similar for Windows Vista and Windows 8.
Option 1: Check Device Manager to make sure it is working properly.
Click your Start button, type “Device Manager,” and press Enter.
Once Device Manager loads click “View” and then “Show Hidden Devices.”
    Locate the “Imaging Devices” section.
Note whether you see the webcam here.
If the webcam is listed, right click it and verify that it is not “Disabled.”
If webcam is listed and not disabled, move onto Option 2.  If the webcam is not listed you will move onto Option 4.
Option 2:   Allow Windows to Re-install the device.
While still in Device Manager right click on your webcam and select “Uninstall”
If prompted select “remove driver and driver package.”
Reboot your notebook and allow Windows to attempt to reinstall the webcam.
If Windows detects the webcam verify the functionality of the webcam.
If Windows does not detect the webcam and install it move onto Option 3.
Option 3:  Manually install the drivers for your webcam.
Use this website to determine your product/model number.
Visit the HP Support Page and use this product number to visit your product’s specific page.
Go to “Drivers and Software” and locate the driver for your webcam.  NOTE: the drivers for the webcam are sometimes bundled with the YouCam software.
    Download and install this driver.
    Reboot the PC.
    Verify functionality.
Option 4:  Manually re-detecting the hardware.
    Disconnect all external devices.
    Shut down the notebook.
Remove the battery and AC power.
Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.
Reinstall the battery and AC power.  Then turn the notebook on.
Once Windows is loaded go back to Device Manager.
Selection “Action” and then “Scan for hardware changes.”
If Device Manager detects the hardware allow it to install.
If Device Manager does not detect the hardware see Option 5.
Option 5: System Restore and System Recovery.
This is outlined very well in this document.  Note that any data that is not backed up prior to a recovery will be lost.
    Options 6: Repair or replacement.
If none of these solutions have worked for you it is likely that you are experiencing a hardware failure.  It is possible to replace the webcam or reseat a loose ribbon cable.  However, this is one of the more difficult repairs on the notebook.  If you would like to attempt this repair you can visit your notebook’s support page and navigate to the “Manuals” section.  There is normally a “Maintenance and Service Guide” for the notebooks, this will cover the disassembly of the notebook.  You can then use HP Parts Surfer to locate the part for your notebook.
If you do not wish to attempt a repair yourself you can inquire with HP about a repair.  For customers in the US/Canada you can call 1-800-474-6836.  If you’re not in this region you’ll need to visit HP’s Support Site to get your area’s contact information.

Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.
    This question was solved.

  • Tips for a NEW mac user

So this is my new thread that started at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8165450#8165450
I just learned that I can use most any mouse that has right click on my newish iMac G4. It also helps to know that I can control click / control space for the same operation.
Just hooked up different mouse. It is nice to have the scroll wheel again also.
    Any other advice...
    Thanks

    Hiya, and welcome to macintosh!
I converted from PC's 5 years ago and have not looked back. Apart from computer games, software for macs is generally nicer looking, more "malleable" (you can make more adjustments than on PC's) and OS X is a very stable Operating system indeed.
Tips? Well, I think, just explore! A good idea maybe a comprehensive book. I bought "Mac OS X Leopard in depth" which explores many aspects of Leopard, including what is "hiding underneath the nice interface".
Generally, don't be afraid to experiment on OS X. It is difficult to break. A great idea is to password your machine, as well as turning on the file vault:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=mac/10.5/en/8736.html
This will increase security. Also, with a passworded account, you think twice if a window pops up and asks you for your password (e.g. software installation). That way, you think before installing and corruption of the system is less likely.
Maybe THE most important step to remember is "good housekeeping", such as
    1) run "disk utility" immediately prior to ANY software update (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782)
    2) If you are updating apple software, and it tells you "+you are not connected to an AC power source+" DO plug in your AC adapter (otherwise there are problems!)
    3) To maximise you battery life look at the following: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
    4) Apart from that, ENJOY!

  • Any Tips for editing Live Event 2 camera shoot?

I need to quickly edit a 2 DV camera recording of a live multi-scene performance (duration of 90 minutes), with audio additionally recorded on a good quality remote mic.
I have used FCE for some time, but not for several months. I have managed to forget many of the lessons learnt through trial and error, as well as by reading Tom wolsky's FCE Editing Workshop! So shortcut tips would be very helpful.
I am also using FCE 3.5 for the first time after my upgrade.
    1
I want to make a safety copy of the synced rushes, as well as keeping the original camera sound recording as a back-up guide track.
    2
I am worried about making sure I am working with Master clips, so that when I edit I don't mess up any of the source material. I am a little confused.
    3
I would appreciate anyone with any suggestions or tips for the best edit process, and any warnings or other guidance. Speed is of essence. (ie there is no budget).
    4
I am considering making separate sequences for each scene (14 scenes in all of varying length and complexity). Is this advisable rather than creating one programme length sequence?
    5
I am considering making the audio into one mono track for simplicity, as the auditorium acoustics have "mixed up" the sound, with little stereo separation. Should I then duplicate the track to build the sound quality at the end?
Any other general Tips always welcome.
Thank you in advance. I appreciate all the unsung contributors to this group.
    Freesh

I am a pretty good source for basic sound info - you can email me if you like
    [email protected]
you are right about the link - I am sorry - i checked the website before I typed the link in too! A blond moment
A low shelf filter - as included in FCE and soundtrack cuts the bottom off a soundmix. 20hz is a low frequency - not many speaker systems can reproduce this frequency, and most speaker systems can't even get to 40hz - even you high fi system or speakers which say they may be able too present sound for 20hz to 20khz - well unless you have spent an aweful lot of money and have a sub bass speaker the size of a car probably may only go down to 40hz, and the production of any 20hz sounds is more likely a feeling - a psychoacousticc effect. The thing about cutting off the bass is that practically it can make the recording sound less muddy, and you can make the recording sound louder. Most recordings for CD play have the bass started to roll of pretty heavily at 40hz and nothing present at 20hz... theirs this thing called narquist theory which talks about frequency responce - but it is this math heavy thing - so basically cut out a good amount of the sub bass. A low shelf filter does this and If you want to be conservative cut below 20hz, and if you want to be real give it a good cut below 35hz.
Now I was sure that their was a mac version of that monofilter that I saw on the web page - I have a PC and do most of my audio work on a PC as that is what I have used the most. If you can get the mono filter work it will make the bottom end sound much better - more natural - less clicky and perhaps abnoxious.... those of us who like trip hop are always striving to get a nice warm bass that represents itself well on a range of speakers. something smooth - it is a bit of a trick - monofilter is one of those tricks.
If you put the bass in mono (below 250hz ish) and keep the phase right speakers find it easier to work with the signal. Also stereo bass is not something that translates well on speakers... Bass tends to just flood the room where as the more mid and trebbly sounds give the audio a feeling of distance and space and left and right. The monofilter has a bass compression/limiting and phase correction built itno it, and implimented on a slider called 'trim'. Listen to your recording on good speakers and probably just bring the trim down a touch (my guess)... as complex as it sounds the monofilter is very easy to use, and is super clever. Now I thought that nugen had a mac audio unit plugin - that is a pity if they don't and kind of makes my advice seem irelevant unless you are prepared to download an application that can use VST's.
    Amy
be careful using an eq as most eq's disrupt the phase of the signal and can reek havok on live recordings. but do give it a low shelf filter at least below -20 but probably below -40 to -80 for practicalitys sake
This is a bit over my head, I am afraid. Do you know a source of basic info for sound recording to help explain such things? It could be a book or an online resource?
lol, what i meant was 20hz or 40 too 80hz - their is a low shelf filter in soundtrack that works well - I am talking about cutting off the low frequency bits of the recording here. Nugen audio has a little pdf that comes out with the monofilter talking about bass signals... I know it is geared towards music and perhaps music that you want to have a nice bass feel - however it translates to the real world too - You will be suprised at how great your audio will sound if you cut off a chunk of the sub bass, and put the low bass in mono.
then you could look at exciting the signal - but that is another story....

  • Some Tips for Cablecard Users with HBO

I have been using a cablecard with my Hauppauge DCR-2650 digital tuner and Windows Media Center on my Windows 7 PC for 3 months with no problems on any of the Prime HD channels. I just subscribed to HBO and was not able to access any of the HBO channels, SD or HD. The message "Subscription Required" would appear after a few seconds, along with a message saying I needed to obtain a subscription to HBO. After Live Chatting to 3 techs over 3 days, I was finally able to access the HBO channels. I'm not sure this solution is permanent, but this is what I did. First I updated the firmware and drivers for my Hauppauge device. Then when I Live Chatted with the technician, he performed a "manual cablecard validation". During this process he asked for my cablecard ID, the Host ID, the Data ID and the activation code. He had me switch channels from an HBO channel to a non-HBO channel, then back again. Voila! It worked. So if my HBO disappears in the future I'll be asking for a tech who knows how to perform a "manual cablecard validation".  Now I had my HBO channels in HD, but the picture was flickering a bit, enough to make it annoying to watch. After Googling "HBO HD flicker" I found that the problem was not with the cablecard or Fios, but with the graphics adapter settings. I have an integrated graphics chip on my PC, an Intel 3000 graphics chip. I opened the graphics properties page and in the "Media" category under "Image Enhancement Option" I turned off the "Adaptive Contrast Enhancement" feature. This fixed the flicker. Hopefully this post will help those few who are using a cablecard with their Home Theater PCs.

  • My MacBook Air is asking me for a pin code

Why my mackbook air is asking me for a pin code?

Enter the PIN code that the user used to lock the device originally, using Find My Mac to have done so.
Alternatively, go to an Apple Store to have it unlocked. Be prepared to prove the unit belongs to you. As the PIN code feature is designed for owners to thwart thieves who have stolen a device.

  • Asking me for incorrect ID on activation

    Hi,
I just restored my dad's iPhone 5 and it's asking me for the Apple ID and password. I have those, the problem is that the iTunes/iPhone is asking me for a mistaken ID.
It says the ID is a*****@g*****.il .
My dad's ID is a gmail account and it's valid. Though, it's asking for an address that ends with "il" instead of "com". I know for sure that no one else has entered a second ID.
I logged in into iCloud and tried to erase any devices connected. But there were'nt any.
What can i do about that? I want to contact Apple, but its not possible via email, only phone.
    Thank you,
    Avishay

It is a "second-hand", but the first owner was me . I made him his gmail account and his Apple account. I prepared for him all things that were needed in order to use the iPhone. I'm using an iPhone since the 2G, I have encountered many annoying and strange errors on iTunes, but never a dead end such as this.
What I'm trying to explain is that I know for a fact that the iTunes is asking me for a false email. what can I do? is that mistake even possible?
I have the ID and password which I started using the iPhone with, it similar for the hinted email the iTunes asks for, only the ending is different.
thank you for the quick response.

  • Development tips for a noob developer

Hi, guys!  I'm a new to Mac OSX development, do you have any tips for me on:
    - setting up a development environment,
    - testing and test environment,
    - work flow,
    - anything and everything you want to share
I'd appreciate any tips/suggestions you can share.
    Thanks!

Hi, K T.  Thanks for your reply.  Yes, I've already read some of them and still reading some more.  I'm quite familiar with the development principles and process itself, but I'm quite curious how you guys how you guys test your candidate releases (i.e., the version to be submitted to the Mac Store).  Do you test it on your development machine?  Do you try it on other macs?  Do you ask your friends to test it?
As for me, I'm currently setting up my development machine to have 2 or 3 installations of Mac OSX.  One as my development partition (main) and the the other 2 as my test partitions.  My plan is before submitting it to Apple, I would test install the package on my test partitions (copy to the partition, boot to that partition and install).  I'm anticipating, however, that it will a bit tedious, that's why I would like to know how the more experienced OS X developers do their testing.
    Thanks again!
