ASM Disk got full

Hi,
I have a standalone database 10.2.0.1 on windows. The datafiles and the archive files are on ASM. The disk on which archive is has got full due to which i am not able to open the database (it is in mount state). Also my asmcmd is not running.
EM is showing "Archiver is unable to archive a redo log because the output device is full or unavailable".
when I'm giving command asmcmd from bin directory of database after setting the ASM SID it throws following message "asmcmd: the environment variable ORACLE_HOME is not set.".
Can anybody give me some idea what to do??
Thanks and regards

Clear the archive log. Surely if you're running in archive log mode, you have a backup process (like rman) that backs up the archive logs and then remove them from the archive destination to make space for new archive logs?

  • HT1492 Start-up disk is full and can't go past the blue screen; can't delete read-only files on single-user mode. Please help.

I have had my Mac mini for about 6 years and I guess it had enough of me (haha), so the start-up disk got full and it shut down before I could empty files on my drive. Unfortunately, all these years I hadn't backed up anything and now I can't access anything since it won't boot past the apple logo (and the blue screen for that matter). I have tried rebooting (holding shift as the mac mini loads), but that didn't help since the start-up disk will still be full and stuck on the blue screen. I am now trying the single-user mode (holding command key+s), and I tried to delete files in the trash bin but all of the files are read-only and access is denied! so I basically can't delete anything on the mac mini (it says "Root device is mounted read-only"). So the key here is to change the permissions but I don't know how to exactly do that. Can someone help me figure this out? (and type the command in the unix language please!!) [ Note: We have two users on this mac mini if that helps.]

    Run the following command:
    mount -uw /
    This isn't a permissions issue.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Get an external hard drive on which to store some of your files after which you can
erase the data from your internal drive to free up space.
      5. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      6. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      7. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

I got a message saying that my startup disk is full and I need to delete files.  I don't know where to fined the files I need to delete and don't understand how my disk can be full.  Can someone help me with this?

To see how much disk space is available ...
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
Photos, video, documents, etc. all require disk space.

Where were you downloading the to,   iPhoto, a folder on the Desktop, where? Are they still on the camera's memory card?  If you deleted them from the card and haven't used the card since they can be recovered with recovery software like  MediaRECOVER. You can download the demo version to verify they can be recovered before purchasing it.  Other similar apps can be found at MacUpdate.com by searching for "photo recovery" or similar terms.

  • ASM Disk Group Showing Full at 50%

    Hi to all,
I have two sets of ASM disk groups, one I use for the main datafiles and the other I use for recovery.
The datafile ASM group is at 65% capacity. The Other "Recovery" Disk group became full at 50%, exactly half the size?!
Why does the group perform like this. It should be full when the disks are full? And why does the other group perform normally?
Has anyone else seen this problem before with ASM groups.
If anyone needs any more details please just ask me a question about it.
    Thanks,
    Jamie.

I have a MacBook Pro that is telling me my startup disk is full. I left for 30 days and when I came back to use it, it tells me that the disk was full out of 500 GB. I don't have that much on it and it was perfectly fine when I left.  I Verified the disk through disk utility and it told me it had issues so then I repaired it and it said everything is fine. It still says the hard drive is full. How do I fix this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am having a problem logging in after a startup disk is full message. Is there anything I can do to get it to log in again? I have been deleting large files but I guess it wasn't enough to take care of the problem.

  • Asm disk  permission

    Hi ,
I have created a virtual machine of around 50gb and on that i have added 4 harddisk of around 3gb after that i have mount those disk and created folders accordingly i have installed OLE 5.5 and oracle 10g relaease 2 above things i have done for ASM for asm configuration . now the above are copy and paste from virtual machine
I have added 4 machines mount them created folders on them naming asm1,asm2,asm3,asm4 and created raw devices in them with the help of dd command of 3 gb files each .....after that i relate them losteup devices and raw devices and later on as chage the owner and permissions related to oracle .......... at the time the owner changed to oracle so i created my asm instance with one diskgroup and normal redundancy ......but when i reboot my machine started the following asm instance I got the following error .........
    ASM Cache 25165824 bytes
    ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
ORA-15063: ASM discovered an insufficient number of disks for diskgroup "DATA"
later on i came to know that it is not able to getthe disk which i created and the cause is the owner has become root so that 's the major cause i was not able to get my diskgroup so i changed the owner and permssions granted to oracle and at that time it has changed but when reboot of machine makes it root user so iam not able to configure it becasue when surfing these are the commands
    chown oracle:dba /dev/raw/raw1
    # chown oracle:dba /dev/raw/raw2
    # chown oracle:dba /dev/raw/raw3
    # chown oracle:dba /dev/raw/raw4
    # chmod 660 /dev/raw/raw1
    # chmod 660 /dev/raw/raw2
    # chmod 660 /dev/raw/raw3
    # chmod 660 /dev/raw/raw4
but after reboot owner becomes root and coz of this iam not able to access my diskgroup iam pasting output of certain things

Using raw and block devices in 11g is not supported
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e17212/whatsnew.htm#BGGEJJHE
So if this Prod /dev/test of business database dont use it
you can install the asmlib and use oracleasm utility to create asm disks
    oracleasm createdisk DISK1 /dev/sdb1
then create diskgroup to use DISK1

  • Finder says Home Disk  is full, utilities say I've only used 93Gb of 232Gb

Earlier this evening I all of a sudden got an alert that my disk was full, 232Gb. 0Gb remaining.
It said I needed to renove some files. I tried. I removed about 10 Gb, but it didn't give me any more space.
I booted from my Clone to to see if I could run dik utility repair. It came up saying the disk was fine.
Repaired Permissions. Everything came up OK there too.
I ran Disk Warrior from it;s disk and it came up stating that I was only using 93Gb of 232Gb. (Which is what I remembered and was about how much my recent Carbon Copy Clone added up to)
I tried WhatSize and it said the same. I'm currently waiting for a license for Tager Cache Cleaner to see if it will help. None of the utilities is finding any hidden large files.
I've also tried backing up the mail folder and removing Envelope Index, but, of course, that made Mail crash since it's being told there's no room on the hard drive. I'm totally stumped.
I imagine there's some corrupt file somewhere, but I'm not getting a fix on it.
Recent changes to the drive - I upgraded to 10.4.9 a few ays ago. Had to install a third party driver for my HP PSC 2175 - hpijs-foomatic-2.0.2.
Printer stopped working earlier today and I had to reinstall CUPS and then the driver again before printer would work. Sortly thereafter that I got the error message about disk full.

I have several different firewire drives attached as well as a USB "jump" drive.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
    G5 1.6Gz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I just found this discussion at the MacFixIt forums. You might read it carefully, and also take a look at the MacOSXHints article mentioned:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070319143243249
I have a batch of those job history files as well so thought I would try removing them and see what happened. I first got myself a root shell:
    NoobiX:~ francine$ sudo -s
Hit return and entered my password, hit return again, then changed directory:
    NoobiX:~ root# cd /private/var/spool/cups
Hit return and ran a list command:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# ls -al
    total 304
    drwx--x--- 41 root lp 1394 Mar 26 21:59 .
    drwxr-xr-x 7 root wheel 238 Aug 3 2006 ..
    -rw------- 1 root lp 3571 Aug 24 2006 c00001
    -rw------- 1 root lp 3574 Aug 24 2006 c00002
    -rw------- 1 root lp 3505 Dec 8 00:24 c00003
    ....and so on.... down to
    -rw------- 1 root lp 3531 Mar 26 21:59 c00038
    drwxrwx--T 2 root lp 68 Dec 21 22:37 tmp
Which verified I was in the right place. I tried removing just one of the files:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# rm c00001
which worked fine. I then decided doing this would be tedious, so tried this:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# rm -r *
There is a space between the rm and -r and after -r before the * (a wildcard). That was probably a mistake since it not only nuked the history files but also the tmp directory. I should have probably used something like rm -r "c*" (since all the history files begin with c that should have got them and spared the tmp folder). I tried recreating the tmp folder with this:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# mkdir tmp
    Which seemed to work:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# ls -al
    total 0
    drwx--x--- 3 root lp 102 Jun 7 12:00 .
    drwxr-xr-x 7 root wheel 238 Aug 3 2006 ..
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root lp 68 Jun 7 12:00 tmp
But being a suspicious sort I ran Disk Utility to Repair Permissions and it did indeed report an error on the /private/var/spool/cups/tmp folder, but it did repair the permissions on the folder successfully, so I'm assuming all is now OK. Of course, I haven't actually tried printing anything yet...
If you choose to try this after you finish type exit and hit return to kill the root shell, then quit Terminal.

  • I keep getting an error message stating 'my start up disk is full'

Hello. I am a new mac user with a macbook with 120 gb. I was copying my itunes over to my mac from my ipod when I got the message 'start up disk is full' I am not sure if I understand..how can my disk be full when I just purchased my computer and don't really have anything on it. How can I fix this and why is it happening? Surely, I don't need more memory.
I really would appreciate any advice.
    thank you,

  • Mac Mini Not booting due to hard disk being full

    Hello All,
I have a Mini and has worked well for the past 12 months, last week i upgraded to the OSX Lion which also went very smoothly. However yesterday i had a message on my screen stating the my startup disk was full and i needed to make space. finding this a little odd as I have a TB external hard drive that everything goes to.
the mini frose during the deletion process after leaving for approx an hour i attempted to reboot. from this point i have only been able to access the disk utility through the DVD that came with the mini I have done a disk check and repair, also check permission all are ok exept for only having 49mb of hd space left.
I cant access safe mode as this will not boot either (tried to load for 8 hours) re install will also not work due to the amount of hd space available
has anyone got any ideas how i can clean the hard disk without formatting as ideally i would like to know what is causing the problem.
like a not very bright thing i left the time machine turned off so this isnt an option either??

Ok, basically it would involve the following
    Boot from the DVD
Launch the Terminal.app probably from a Utilities menu which also lists Disk Utility
In Terminal you would need to type cd /Users/accountname/.Trash followed by pressing the return key
Then you would type ls -l and again press return
It would then list what is in the trash for that user account. If it begins with a D it is a folder, otherwise it is likely a file. The big number before the data would give an idea of the size of the item.
When you have found the one you want to delete (remember you cannot undo this) you would type the following to delete a file rm filename and then press return again.
The do ls -l again to see if the file has gone.
If you want to delete a folder that is in the trash then the command would be rm -r foldername and then again press return. Using rm -r is a particularly dangerous command if you do it in the wrong place or the wrong way you could delete everything on the hard disk.
Normally in single user mode (which you said was not working) you have to type some other commands beforehand to allow modifying the contents of the hard disk. I have not tried this via the DVD so I do not know if the same applied. If it does it is likely to refuse to delete the file and you should come back to me and we can work out the process.
