ASM option comes with Standard Edition Oracle 11g R2 Install or not?

Hello,
I just wanted to make sure before installing the Oracle 11g R2 software, whether ASM (Automatic Storage Management) is available for Standard edition or not?

Realize as well that you can only have one ASM per host. If you want to have ASM in a separate HOME, you will need to do that first, stop the existing ASM, and fire up the new one.
For transportable tablespace, according to Oracle's Licensing document, it is an EE-only feature.
(As for 'my assistance': ask a question for each problem you hit. I may or may not be available, but probably someone will pick up the question if you include the OS/DB version and show your work.)

Ocfs with standard edition

standard edition or do I have to use ASM ?

Oracle10g Standard Edition does not support use of using the Oracle Clustered File System (OCFS) for the physical database files. This is documented in Metalink Note ID : 358248.1.

Standby Database with Standard Edition

Hi All,
I'm attempting to setup a Standby database with Oracle 10g Standard Edition. I must manually copy over the archive logs to my Standby database server because i'm using Standard Edition.
Once my primary database archive logs have been copied over to the standby location shouldn't the database automatically apply those archive logs? I have issued the "alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session" so my understanding is that it is in recovery mode and shoudl be finding the archive logs to apply. Can anyone confirm that this configuration should work with Standard Edition and perhaps point me in the right direction, which parameters in the init file to check, to get my standby database to apply these archive logs automatically.

To quickly determine the level of synchronization for the standby database, issue the following query on the physical standby database:

Basic monitoring of a standard edition Oracle 10g Alpha VMS

We are running Oracle 9.2.0.8 on Alpha VMS standard edition and are about to upgrade to Oracle 10g. It appears to me that :
- database control is not available for Alpha VMS
- Oracle grid control requires packs to see even the basic stuff that database control gives you, but you can only licence the packs against enterprise edition databases
What are we meant to use for basic monitoring of a standard edition Oracle 10g database on VMS?

I have operating system VMS 8.3 with Oracle 10.2.0.4 EE, but I recommend 10.2.0.5, support a few weeks ago send me an email in which broad support for VMS until July 2013 for failing to support Itanium. Support ends in 2017, maybe it's time to migrate to another operating system. I am prounix, but VMS is much more advanced than Unix in some ways.
I do not remember well, but I use 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.2 agent, but the operating system causes problems and don't recollet all data.
The license part I don't know, ask a salesperson, but you don't need license all packs, there are many free and good tools like ASHMON (look for it in Google) that cover packs like performance/diagnostics

Does the 17" non-glare screen option come with silver or black border?

I've read that the new 17" non-glare (aka matte) screen option comes with the now-standard black border and I've also read that it comes with the old silver border as on current-gen MBPs and old PBs. The Apple MBP 17" section doesn't seem to answer the question or have any photos of the non-glare 17".
As asked in the title, does anyone know which border color is standard for the non-glare 17"? Thanks very much.

What I've been trying to figure out is it the new LED backlit, larger color gamut, higher res new screen with an anti-glare film in the old frame? Or is it the same old technology 17" screen on a new unibody base?
If it's the old technology screen on a new computer, I may have to go glossy with mine. If it's the new technology screen and the only downside is a silver frame versus a black one, that's pretty minor and will convince me to go anti-glare.
I can't understand why Apple hasn't cleared this up?

As far as I know all electronic products are country specific products and if you buy it in your country you will get it with right AC adapter.
In my country (Germany) they are delivered with this standard charger.

Ultrasearch with Standard edition

Can someone please confirm whether or not Ultra Search can be configured with the Standard edition of the 10gR2 database ? I was not able to run the configuration from the companion CD against a Standard database, only against an Enterprise edition.
There seems to be no documentation clarifying which versions Ultra Search can be configured to run on.

OLAP option and 10g Standard Edition

Hi,
I have a small question. I want to find out if it is possible to have the OLAP option for my DB if I possess a Oracle 10g Standard Edition, or Standard Edition One license.
I've checked the product note for EE, SE and SE One. Only EE contains a word about OLAP option. But as its just an Option, can't we have it with SE also?

Creating standby database from ASM production database in standard edition

Hi,
I am using oracle 10g release 2 standard edition. I recently created a database instance and wanted to create a standby database instance. After sorting out how to achieve this without managed standby and data guard I finally got it working and the shipped archive logs are applied and working well on the standby database.
Now I am thinking of re-creating my production database and using ASM for storage managment. By doing this can a standby database still be created from a primary database using ASM? I want to be sure I can before I commit to using ASM for the production instance and manually creating a standby database from that instance.
Note: I am using standard edition not enterprise edition.

Go to the Oracle website and download their JDBC driver. Then
install it
in the CF server and configure your datasource using the
"Other" option
and with the information in the documentation of the driver.
