ASM RAC Migration from 10gR1 to 10GR2 32 to 64-bit

please advise how can i move forward with migration having the following requirement.
Thanks.
- 2-node RAC Cluster on windows server 2003 32-bit
- Version is 10gR1 Standard Edition on both Nodes with ASM at the moment. (asmcmd is not available in 10gR1)
- Migration is needed to be done to a new hardware setup having new high speed disks, 10g R2 Enterprise Edition with ASM and 64-bit windows server 2003.
Now i need to migrate to the new hardware with different hardware,windows version,Oracle Version and new disks as well.
Migration PLan:
1- install 32-bit enteprise edition 10gR2 on existing system and migrate RAC from 10gR1 Standard Edition to 10gR2 Enterprise Edition first.
2- how should i de-attach datafiles in ASM so that i can take them to new machine. attach them and run rest of the migration steps. (in a non-asm environment i can just copy the datafiles using network to the new machine)
3- once the diskgroup/datafile are available on new hardware i can run the scripts to change wordsize.
please advise how step2 can be done.
do i need to take care of the 2 rac-nodes or just do all the migration using one node?
thanks.

Hi;
1- Installl Redhat Enterprose Linux 5 64 bit ( need to confirm the 5.x version ) as the current DB 10.2.0.5 will not certified for RHEL6Correct only 11.2.0.3 db version is certified with RHEL6.
In oracle certification I can see the certified 64 bit RHEL OS for 10.2.0.5 is RHEL5 ("Oracle Database 10.2.0.5.0 is certified on Linux x86-64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5"). Please let me know the last supported version in RHEL5 which I can go for. I could not find anything about it. I am thinking, I can go for RHEL 5.5 and in the same OS can I upgrade DB 10.2.0.5 to version 11.2.0.3 after the migration.?The latest version is 5.8 and you can download it from e-delivery.
PS:Please dont forget to change thread status to answered if it possible when u belive your thread has been answered, it pretend to lose time of other forums user while they are searching open question which is not answered,thanks for understanding

  • Upgrade from 10GR1 to 10GR2: Spatial Component invalid

    I'm currently upgrading a database on a solaris box from 10GR1 to 10GR2 (10.1.0.2.0 to 10.2.0.1.0). After running catupgrd the Spatial Component is marked as invalid.
    Spatial INVALID 10.2.0.1.0 00:30:28
    I checked through the log file of the upgrade and I see the following error..
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

    I've run the catupgrd about 5 times now and spatial is still invalid. The output from running the catupgrd is showing little information. What's the best way about finding out what's invalid or what's to be done?

  • Porting Sql profiles from 10gR1 to 10gR2

    Hi,
    I require some sql profiles to be ported from 10gR1 to 10gR2, as these profiles are important for the application to perform optimally.Could you please share your thoughs or suggestions, thanks in advance.
    Balaji.

    You may use the package DBMS_SQLTUNE.
    From oracle documentation:
    Import/Export SQL Tuning Sets and SQL Profiles
    You use DBMS_SQLTUNE subprograms to move SQL Profiles and SQL Tuning Sets from one system to another using a common programmatic model. In both cases, you create a staging table on the source system and populate that staging table with the relevant data. You then move that staging table to the destination system following the method of your choice (such as datapump, import/export, or database link), where it is used to reconstitute the objects in their original form. These steps are implemented by means of subprograms included in this package:
    Call the CREATE_STGTAB_SQLPROF Procedure or the CREATE_STGTAB_SQLSET Procedure to create the staging table on the source system.
    Call the PACK_STGTAB_SQLPROF Procedure or PACK_STGTAB_SQLSET Procedure to populate the staging table with information from the source system.
    Once you have moved the staging table to the destination system, you call the UNPACK_STGTAB_SQLPROF Procedure or the UNPACK_STGTAB_SQLSET Procedure to recreate the object on the new system.

  • Migration from Photoshop Elements 8 (Windows 7 64 bit) to PE 12 (MAC)

    I am planning to move from a PC Windows 7-based system to a MAC.  As part of this move I will need to migrate Photoshop Elements from PE 8 in Windows to PE 12 on MAC.  Back in July, I previously asked what steps would be necessary to migrate to PE 11 on MAC, but I delayed making the move (waiting for the new MacBook Pro) and will now be migrating to PE 12.
    Do I still follow the same steps for a (hopefully!) smooth transition of my tagged photos and catalog?  i.e., migrate from PE 8 (Windows) to PE 12 (Windows).  Then from PE 12 (Windows) to PE 12 (MAC).  Are there any gotchas or caveats that I should be aware of?  I've read a few horror stories in various places and am nervous.
    Thanks, Amy

    I'm a bit slow on implementation.  So far I have good news and bad news.  But bottom line, I need some additional help.
    First the good news: The upgrade in Windows from PE 8 to PE 12 went smoothly, with all tags and their hierarchical structure maintained.  Ditto for Albums which showed up under "Local Albums."
    I am now stymied with the bad news and hoping for more guidance:  I just got my new MacBook last week, with my data files transfered over from my Windows PC.  Unfortunately, the migration to PE 12 MAC (installed for me with the disc from the boxed version) did not make the transition smoothly.  All of my tags came in under "Imported Keyword Tags," with the hierarchical structure totally flattened, and they cannot be dragged-and-dropped into a renewed structure into People, Places, and Events tags, as appropriate.  Also, all of my Albums have disappeared.
    I'm thinking that maybe I should restore the catalog.  But when I started to do so, I was asked to choose between New or Original Location.  Then, when I chose "original location" (not wanting to clutter my new hard drive with duplicates), PE 12 gave me a warning about the potential for changes to the existing file structure.  So I stopped and decided to come back to the Adobe Forum for more help.
    Thanks in advance!  Again!  Amy

  • Upgrading from 10gR1 to 10gR2

    I can't seem to find any documentation on how to install R2 over top of R1. Do have to export everything out of the R1 instance and import it into the new one or is there a way to install it like a patch on top of the original install?

    Hi,
    is there a way to install it like a patch on top of the original install? No, this is two different release (and not patchset), from same version I agree, but different release, you need to install 10gR2 into a new ORACLE_HOME directory.

  • ASM installation failure from Oracle GRID under Windows 7 64 bit

    I am a rookie..I am running Oracle database 11gR2 running on a Windows 7 64 bit system.
    I am implementing ASM onto my system solely for learning purposes
    The implementation of ASM has changed between database releases 11gR1 and 11gR2 such that it is no longer configured locally but is now implemented from within Oracle GRID. Unfortunately, the book I am using to study my OCP from was written at the time of 11gR1 so I can no longer follow its instructions to create and configure ASM. Instead of using DBCA I now need to use ASMCA to configure ASM.
    As a preliminary requirement I successfully installed Oracle Grid and configured it to run on my standalone server.
    I created two partitions on my harddrive ...... drive G: and drive H: with intent of using them as my ASM disks. 45 Gig and 50 gig in size respectively formatted with the NTFS filesystem.
    I ran ASMCA in an attempt to create an ASM instance
    I specified these partition drives '\\.\G:' and '\\.\H:' in the disk discovery path which were successfully picked up.
    However when ASMCA executed the creation process after some time it failed with the following message:
    One or more diskgroup(s) creation failed as below:
    DiskGroup mydisks creation failed with the following message:
    ORA-15018: diskgroup cannot be created

  • DB Migration from oracle 8.1 32bit to 64 bit

    Hi,
    We are working on oracle 8.1 on 32 bit on solaris 64bit operating system. We are working on SAP R/3 4.6C.
    We want to migrate our oracle database form 32 bit to 64 bit.
    If anyone can help me with some documentation, it would be helpful. Please send to my mail id [email protected]
    Also, please suggest some preperatory steps for the same.
    Thanks,
    Sailesh K

    Dear ,
    you are going to upgrade from 8.1.7.3 (32-bit) to 8.1.7.3 (64-bit).  This
    applies if you are running Java inside the database.
    1)  Shutdown your 32-bit 8.1.7.3 database.  Shutdown the listener.
    2)  Take a cold backup of this database.
    3)  Install Oracle RDBMS 8.1.7.0 (64-bit)
    4)  Apply patchset 8.1.7.3 (64-bit) to this oracle home.
    5)  Copy your init.ora from the 32-bit home to the 64-bit home.
    6)  Edit the init.ora of the 64-bit ORACLE_HOME so that the following
        parameters are set as follows:
        aq_tm_processes = 0
        job_queue_processes = 0
        systemtrig_enabled = FALSE
        db_block_buffers= (at least 2000)
        shared_pool_size= (at least 150MB)
        java_pool_size= (at least 20MB)
    7)  sqlplus internal or sys
        startup restrict your 8.1.7.3 database using the ORACLE HOME of
        8.1.7.3(64-bit).
    8)  delete from duc$ where pack='JIS$INTERCEPTOR$' and proc='USER_DROPPED';
        commit;
        @?/rdbms/admin/utlip.sql
    9)  Go to Metalink, select Patches, and put in 1994933 for the 'Patch Number'.
        It will come up with a patch saying that it is for HP, but it is actually
        generic for Oracle on all platforms.
        After downloading the patch, extract it and keep track of where you put
        the rmsro.sql and invalidate.sql files.
    10) Now run the following, again from sql*plus connected as internal or sys:
        SQL> @?/javavm/install/initjvmaux.sql
        SQL> @<directory where you placed the files from step 9>/rmsro.sql
        SQL> call rmsro.run();
        SQL> @<directory where you placed the files from step 9>/invalidate.sql
    11) shutdown normal the database
    12) If you are following this procedure because you are converting word size
        from 8.1.7.3 32-bit to 8.1.7.3 64-bit *ON SOLARIS*, then you also need
        to apply another fix.
        Go to Metalink, select Patches, and put in 2209569 for the 'Patch Number'.
        After downloading the patch, extract it and put the classes.bin file from
        the downloaded patch into $ORACLE_HOME/javavm/admin.  This will replace the
        classes.bin file which is already there.
    13) Startup restrict your 64-bit 8.1.7.3 database
    14) Sql*plus internal or sys and type
        SQL> create or replace java system
          2  /
    15) Shutdown the database
    16) Startup restrict the database, connect as internal or sys and run
        SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql;
        -- To check on the progress of utlrp.sql, you can open a second sql
           prompt and do a select count(*) from dba_objects where status!='VALID';
           This count should keep decreasing as the script progresses to
           revalidate all the objects.
        -- If you get an ORA-29554 unhandled Java out of memory condition error,
           simply rerun utlrp.sql again and it will pick up where it left off.
    17) Shutdown the database
        (Note: you may get an ORA-600 [729] error, which can be ignored.
        If that is the case, simply do a shutdown abort before continuing)
    18) Change the SYSTEMTRIG_ENABLED parameter in your init.ora as follows.
        SYSTEMTRIG_ENABLED =TRUE
    19) Startup restrict, connect as internal or sys and run:
        SQL> insert into duc$ (owner, pack, proc, field1, operation#, seq)
             values ('SYS','JIS$INTERCEPTOR$','USER_DROPPED',0,1,1);
        SQL> commit;
    20) shutdown the database
    21) Modify the database startup parameters JOB_QUEUE_PROCESSES and
        AQ_TM_PROCESSES (and shared_pool_size/java_pool_size/db_block_buffers if
        you modified them earlier) back to their original values.
    22) restart the database
    23) check that you are able to startup & shutdown normally the database
        without hanging anywhere.

  • Resources for migration from legacy Cisco VPN client to AnyConnect?

    As the legacy client is now officially EOL'd, and it is having issues with Windows 7 - the need has presented itself to migrate to AnyConnect.
    The complicating issue here is that many of the machines that need to be migrated connect remotely and never touch a corporate LAN - as such - I need to devise a means to remotely and seamlessly (as much as possible) migrate from old to new.  Sounds a bit like changing the wings on a flying plane, but I'm guessing others have had to face the same issue.  By procrastinating this migration - my hope is that your blood spilled will be mine saved?  (Just kidding. Sorta).
    Any tips, input, suggestion, procedures, FAQs,  good luck wishes, etc. greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    JP

    Hi Andy
    Anyconnect licensing is a little complicated, but 99% of the time you only need the "Essentials" AnyConnect license for your ASAs. This gives you everything that you have using the old Cisco VPN Client.
    Essentials is licensed per ASA, and not per user like the other ASA AnyConnect licenses.
    AnyConnect Premium gives you all that Essentials give you plus "clientless" VPN (Web portal type stuff).
    Configuration wize - it's pretty simple and similar to how you configure the old VPN support. There's a wizard to assist you in configuring it if you like that kind of thing.

  • How to migrate DB from single node 10gR2 to RAC 11gR2 on diff platform?

    How to migrate DB from single node 10gR2 to RAC 11gR2 on different platform with possible minimum downtime? We have a situation of upgrade/migrate oracle 10gR2 single instance DB to 2-node RAC 11gR. The source OS is Solaris 10 on SPARC and the target OS is Linux (the target servers could be changed to Solaris 11 x86 if needed). What is the best solution on that?
    Thanks,

    Technically, can do the following for upgrading and migration?
    1. Create 11gR2 oracle home on the same server and upgrade the database from 10gR2 to 11gR2 by running conversion (2 hour down time?)
    2. Set up Heterogeneous Primary and Physical Standbys by RMAN. The standby is the RAC with ASM. No need down time. (from Solaris Space to Linux - this may be a problem)
    3. At the cutoff time, activate the standby DB from the RAC ASM.
    If feasible, do we have some detail guild line for each step?

    Hi,
    I have a 10g database running in single instance.I have installed grid 11.2.0.2 in two nodes including the node where current instance is running,I have installed 10g again in a seperate mount point in both the nodes .It has the same patches as single instance 10g home.Now how to migrate from single instance to RAC manually.
    Thanks,
    Sekar

    -restore this database into 11g ASM if its not already on ASM.
    -upgrade this database to 11g from 10g on single instance.
    -Now Converting Single Instance on a Cluster to Oracle RAC ,here you have different option to perform this once its 11g database after upgrade.
    using rconfig
    using dbca or manually.

  • PeopleSoft CRM 8.8 migration from DB2 UDB v8.1x to Oracle 9i Rac

    Hello,
    What is the best way to migrate a PeopleSoft CRM 8.8 application (PeopleTools 8.44) from DB2 UDB v8.1x to Oracle 9i Rac? From what I can tell I have either two options; 3rd party software or data mover. Is there a Workbench tool to do this job or is data mover my best bet.... Just an FYI...The database size is around 100GB...
    Thanks

    I would suggest that you get in contact with your Oracle account team with this request. We have groups inside Oracle with have experience migrating databases underneath PeopleSoft applications. They would be able to provide you with the best advice and assistance if required.

  • Migration from Designer 6i to Designer 10gR2

    Hi,
    my customer has a productivity environment of the Designer 6i repository. We are also generating Forms 6i modules with the Designer 6i Forms Generator.
    Now we have to migrate the Database where the Designer 6i repository resides from 8i to 11gR2.
    Which scenario of migration is to choose ?
    I want to migrate without change, upgrade the current productivity environment.
    First of all have i to migrate the Designer from 6i to 10gR2 if i only want migrate the database version from 8i to 11gR2 ?
    Many Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Martin

    Martin,
    In a previous post you can find the following information: (Re: 11G compatibility
    Designer 10.1.2.5 is certified with an 11.1.0.6 DB
    You can get it to work with an 11.1.0.7 DB but you have to use the imp/exp tools from 11.1.0.6
    Designer is not certified with and 11R2 db.
    After upgrading the repository from 6i to 10gR2, there were some differences in the forms generated in 6i and 10gR2. So after upgrading you have to test your forms to see if they are working still the same.

  • Restoring RMAN Backup from ASM RAC env to Non ASM standalone environment

    Hi,
    Can anyone please tell me how to restore database using RMAN in a Non ASM environment as my backup file with ASM RAC environment.
    i was also looking for some documentation which provides clear explanation about RMAN backup and Restore in ASM and Non ASM environment.
    Thanks

    You can set the parameter db_file_name_convert in init.ora in you new database with [ID 47325.1]
    or
    you can set parameter "set newname" in your script rman. [ID 549972.1]
    if you have one or two destinations of dbfiles in ASM I seggest to you set parameter db_file_name_convert in init.
    example:
    db_file_name_convert=('+DGDATA','/u01/oradata/');
    remenber you need set log_file_name_convert to.
    log_file_name_convert=('+DGREDO','/u01/redo/');
    if you use "set newname" commands you need set this lines in your script rman.
    set newname for datafile 1 to '/u01/oradata/system01.dbf';
    set newname for datafile 2 to '/u01/oradata/undotbs01.dbf';
    set newname for datafile 3 to '/u01/oradata/sysaux01.dbf';
    set newname for datafile 4 to '/u01/oradata/users01.dbf';
    and every datafiles you need set!
