ASM use for small scale datawarehouse ?

Hello guys,
We are working on a Datawarehouse (ard 50G ) architecture with the following acquired environment:
Single server X3650 M4 Dual CPU ( 16 core in total ) with 48G ram
Oracle standard 10g x64
Windows 2008 x64
128 SSD x 8
IBM ServeRAID M5110e SAS/SATA Controller
Due to budget concern, we will be running the App server(Business OBjects 4.0 w/ Tomcat and DB server on the same machine. )
We have a user base of around 30 ppl on the app server.
We intend to have external redundancy using IBM raid card on raid 10 configuration. I wonder what kind of disk config yield better performance if we only have write update in the morning and 95% read for the rest ?
Raid 1 for OS (128SSD x 2 including DB logfile )
Raid 10 for DB server ( 128 SSD x 6 )
I heard ASM provides better disk management but just wonder it helps in performance in anyway.
Any advice on better disk configuration, segment size, block size ?
thanks
Clement

Hi,
ASM does provide redundancy but you can also configure external redundancy at SAN level, please go through below links for more information.

  • Can Oracle XE be used for small business organizations.

I want to ask with reference to licencing of software. my question is whether Oracle XE can be used for a small size business organizaion, cuz it needs no license for any purpose.
Please also guide if there are some limitations in this version with reference to functionality as compare to 8i and 10g.

  • Can Cisco connect be used for small business web filtering?

I am searching for a web filtering solution for our small church.  The core requirement is to use a hardware-based solution to filter all internet traffic.  Our current wiring looks like this: [ISP router] --> [switch] --> [Open Mesh wireless access points].  Can I connect a Linksys EA2700/3500/4500/6500 between the [ISP router] and the [Switch], disable the Linksys wireless, and use Cisco Connect to filter all the internet traffic?
More info: We will only have a handful of wired/wireless devices which we have control over.  We expect most of the rest of the traffic to be generally outside our control via personally owned devices connecting thru the public wifi.  Therefore any solution which requires installation of software on individual devices will not work.
(If there are other threads on this topic I'd be more than happy to read them, I just couldn't find any.)
    Thanks!!

  • Is it ok to make a Base RBundle static if it is for small scale firm?

I was told to avoid static code but I dont see why I cant use a static RBundle for all GUI text if it there is only one language currently. Surely all clients can share the one instance of my GUi text getting class?

Proof of what?Your expert opinion on incompetence. You stated it as a fact leaving no room for argument. I now want proof that it is indeed fact.

Re-read your post. It obviously states your opinion, not facts.I don't need to. I wrote it. Can you quote the part in your next reply on where I said I do not like him. This comes as a big surprise to me as I never met him/her.

Irrelevant. Then why the comment suggesting that one needs competance in order to ask question in the "new to java" forum? I suggested no such thing. For someone who says that I wrote that i don't like someone when I didn't this is no surprise as it is becoming clear to me you don't read well. You will notice this comment is about JWentlings comment about incompetance in the "new to java" section. I merely pointed out that such comments are irrelevant to me and possibly others, especially when one understands that being "new to something" usually entails that one has limited if any competance towards the topic.

  • Looking for small-scale LabVIEW projects to gain experience (CLAD, BSEE, BSBA)

I have a full-time job but am looking for opportunities to gain more LabVIEW experience through any freelance opportunities out there. I have just started exploring the FPGA and Real-Time Modules. My educational background is as follows:
    Michigan Technological University
Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering (2012)
Certificate in Electric Power Engineering (2012
    Michigan Technological University
Bachelors of Science in Business Administration (2009)
Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD) (2011)
    Engineer in Training (EIT) (2012)
My focus in engineering is classical, modern, and digital control systems and electric power engineering. I am familiar with control design in Matlab/Simulink and would like to translate this to LabVIEW.
Because if my relatively little experience, my rates are very reasonable. Feel free to contact me at any tome with any questions you may have.

i was just wondering if anyone has any experience with content management systems and if so, what one would suggest i use for small news project?

CMSs come small & large.  The right one for your project depends on several factors:
    a) your coding skills
    b) what type of server-side programming and databases you can use
    c) projected size of site
    d) feature requirements
    e) budget

  • Uses for spare iSight cameras

I have 2 spare iSight cameras here.
Can anyone suggest any novel uses for them?
    Andy

I think you'll find that the iSight cameras are a superior alternative to analog cameras and converters because they work out of the box, don't require strange drivers that may not work when OS X is updated, and have very clear pictures in bright light. Of course you need to have the correct number of free FireWire ports to make it practical. There are firewire port expanders/replicaters available from 3rd party vendors as well as firewire to firewire repeaters if you max out your run lengths beyond what a single cable can reach. That's the only difficult part about using FireWire cameras for home security. If the computer is centrally located where one camera can view a major hallway and another can cover the more likely entrance door to be intruded upon (like back yard doors etc), then you are covering your major bases.
The software allows you to upload pictures or streaming video files (like mpeg 4 and more) to a secure repository on the Internet in real time, in case someone steals the computer that you use for security. Myself I dedicated an older iMac G4 to view my driveway and view the doorway in the room leading up to it so if someone does get access to the security computer, I'll have photographic evidence of who did it stored online on my iDisk..
The options for image processing to detect wether there is motion in a relevant part of an image is quite extensive. Beyond mere square areas of interest or avoidance, you can also opt to selectively paint the image as to which areas it should watch for movement to avoid false alarms...
If you have multiple Macs in your home, you can use the built-in iSight cameras on any networked Macs to provide interior security for whatever they face like remote cameras to the main security Mac. To do this, you must provide a 1 camera license for each Mac you use as a remote camera, so choose carefully how you want to license the software because it won't allow you to run more copies of the software or more cameras than you are licensed for... Here's the link:
    http://www.securityspy.com/
I consider it one of the best software solutions for home security. I would even say it would be appropriate to use for small commercial applications as well.

  • Enhance image/logo for larger scale use

I have been given an image of a company logo to use for a variety of mediums through advertising. The logo they have given me is very small, I want to either enlarge it or create a higher resolution version of the image which I can then scale up/down according to my use for. Not sure which is the best tool to use for this, perhaps Photoshop may be better, which I have tried using to achieve this (my skills in Illustrator are very limited). The problem with the original image, is the logo (mainly text-based), the edges aren't smooth and when I increase the size of the logo, it becomes even more pixelated/rough round the edges and curves. Can anyone point out some suggestions for me please in how to achieve this? I would be very grateful for any help, thanks.

    raviipatel,
You should get/find the right fonts and use the Type Tool, then use other means to get the effects/positioning.
If you cannot get a vector version and see for yourself or get the font information from the company, you may try

  • Setup Lion Server for use in Small Office of Windows & Mac Clients

I've purchased a Mac Mini Server with Lion Server installed to be used in my small office of less than 10 people.
The primary goal of this server is to used for File Sharing, bother locally, and remotely.
In the process of setting up Lion Server I have come across a couple things that I am confused about.
    The first is Open Directory.
It is my understanding that this is not a necessary setup for the number of users in my office, however I set it up anyway as it appeared to be something that would be useful in the future.
I have come across information that states Lion Server will not be accessible for Windows users connected via Open Directory. Thus my inclination is to disable the service, and set up my users as local users.
My question is, for local and remote File Sharing, is there any benefit to using Open Directory?
The second has to do with Remote Access.
I am familiar with the notion of a VPN, but I need some clarification as to my remote access options.
When I go to setup my Server's hostname, I am presented with three options. 1) Host name for local network, 2) Host name for private network, and 3) Host name for Internet.
I have a domain name for my company's website, so I set up a subdomain (server.mycompany.com), asked my ISP for a Static WAN IP, and pointed thesubdomain to said IP using my DNS. Thus this appears to be option number 3; to allow users to connect to my server from the local network, as well as the Internet.
My question is, how does this differ from a VPN both in setup, as well as method with which users will access the server? Is there a benefit to one over the other? I would Google this to find an answer, but I can't seem to find a name for what this setup is called.
I very much appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks.

Well, I spoke too soon.  Lion Server is unstable, awkward and is far too limited to qualify as an Apple product. Even though there's quite a few enhancements, the omissions of technologies in the server 10.6 edition makes this "server" a no go for us.
Even after installing mysql, I still cannot run a Joomla website on Lion server as it should be done. The wiki's a nice thing to have, but isn't a "professional grade" solution.  There's too much iOS as well.
With that said, I think it's a shame that apple would put customers through so much frustration and disappointment by releasing such a lame product. In order for us to use Lion server, we would have to be able to run a second (totally separate) instance of Apache. It also appears that server settings are changing to the extent that services become inaccessible as the system is running.

  • Which credentials to be used for ftp login to asm content via xml

    Hello,
we've got some databases running in an Oracle 11.2 RAC environment with ASM.
XML DB for FTP is activated and a connection can be established.
The documentation recommends to connect with user SYSTEM, which I don't understand,
since the target is the ASM instance and not a user's database.
As far as I know there is only user SYS (and one SNMP user) defined in ASM -
and in fact I get remotely connected to ASM with user SYS and its corresponding password.
    The user SYSTEM ist defined in each of our four user databases that are clients to only one ASM instance;
each has got a different password and so I ask, which user SYSTEM should be used for FTP to ASM data ?
Is there any documentation about that ?  I couldn't find any so far.
    Thanks and kind regards,
    Bernd

You made this case clearer to me now, but your last question ist exactly the point in question.
Meanwhile I found the password for the correct database, i.e. "sogabo"  (there are only 2, not 4 DBs configured).

A program we can enter each phone and have there schedule and current location available at all times.

Search the iTunes App store or find a developer to create an app that meets your needs.

  • What does "Personal Use Only" for small business owners mean?

For small businesses or Sole-Proprietors, computers they use for business are also the machines being used for personal use. If I understand the new Mac App Store license correctly, you cannot ethically purchase an app on the App Store that will be used for business use. If that is the case, the greatest oxymoron is that they have a "Business" section in the App Store.
I truly LOVE how easy the App Store makes managing one's apps, but if I have to now deal with seperating all purchases based on it's overall use, they have just complicated the small business scene for small business owners.
I fully understand them wanting to discourage a large business from purchasing, for example, Aperture, once and installing it on 100+ machines. But if that is what they're trying to avoid, why not be more specific in the terms of the updated App Store license info. Instead, they are shooting down any and all use of anything purchased in the App Store for business.
Any other small business owners facing the same situation?

Here is a clause from the Terms and Conditions, which can be found at http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#APPS
    *Begin quote*
(ii) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download a Mac App Store Product for use either (a) by a single individual on each of the Mac Product(s) that you own or control, or (b) by multiple individuals on a single shared Mac Product that you own or control. For example, a single employee may use a Mac App Store Product on both the employee’s desktop Mac Product and laptop Mac Product, or multiple students may serially use the Product on a single Mac Product located at a resource center or library.

It seems that as long as you abide by these guidelines, you can use App Store apps for business.
