ASMLIB for kernel 2.6.18-308.8.2

I have been waiting for the ASMLIB driver for RHEL kernel 2.6.18-308.8.2 for about a week.
Does anyone know when it might be released?

If you have Oracle Linux support, you can get it from the Oracle Software channel on ULN. I'll ping the guys who maintain the OTN page to see when it'll be updated.

Does anyone knows when Oracle will release a newer ASMLib for the 2.6 kernel? The current one only works for RH2.1, RH3 and SSL8. SSL9 is now officially supported by Oracle database 10g but why the ASMLib is still lacking? If anyone have any experience of making the current ASMLib to work with the 2.6 kernel, please share the experience. Thanks!

Please advise how to obtain ASMLib for the following Oracle Enterprise Linux kernel version 2.6.32-71.el6.i686 without ULN Subscription. There is no way to obtain ASMLib for Oracle Linux 6, as there is no ASMLib for Oracle Linux 6 yet. No Oracle products are certified to run on Oracle Linux 6 yet either. However, once ASMLib is released, it will only be available via ULN, as far as I know. And only for the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, not for the Red Hat compatible kernel.

  • ASMLib for CentOS 4.6

    Hi All,
    I have CentOS 4.6 with Kernel2.6.9-27ELsmp i686.
I've so far been unable to locate a corresponding Driver for it on Oracle site. Unless of course I've been looking in the wrong direction.
Kindly point me in the right direction.
    Regards,
    Timothy.

    Hi Timothy,
unfortunately Oracle does not directly support CentOS. Just RHEL, SLES and OEL.
For that reason there will be no releases for CentOS directly.
However since the kernel seems very similar to RHEL you might get an EL4 release for your kernel.
But now again closet versions out there are:
    Drivers for kernel 2.6.9-34.EL
    Drivers for kernel 2.6.9-22.EL
    Nothing for a 27 Kernel :(
On the other hand, since the source code is GPL you could try compiling it yourself.
Since you are on an unsupported version of OS anyways there is no harm in that.
The sources can be found here (at the bottom of the page):
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/asmlib/index.html
Furthermore, if you don't get ASMLIB to run ASM runs perfectly fine without asmlib.
Its just a best practice to use, because it needs less resources, no hassle with rigths assignment on harddisks etc. But it will also work without...

  • Oracleasm RPMs not available at OTN for Kernel version 2.6.18-155

    Hi,
I have installed RHEL5.4, 64-bit. Oracleasm rpms are not present at OTN for kernel version 2.6.18-155.el5 (RHEL 5.4, 64-bit).
I am referring to the following link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/downloads/rhel5-084877.html#oracleasm_rhel5_amd64
Please advise from where to download the packages.

    Hi!
Don't use ASMLib, it will be no longer available, it will only came in Oracle Unbreackeable Kernel for Linux 6.
I'm highly recomend you to use a newr version of Linux such as 5.5 or above.
The easly way to set the permissions on your devices is with a /etc/init.d script that do the job.
    Here is an example:
    #! /bin/bash
    # chkconfig: 2345 25 19
    # description: Set ASM Permissions on to devices at boot.
    case "$1" in
    start)
    /bin/chown oracle:oinstall /dev/sdb1
    /bin/chmod 0660 /dev/sdb1
    stop)
    #do nothing
    status)
    ls -l /dev/sdb1
    echo "Usage: $0 {start|stop|status}"
    exit 1
    esac
    exit o
You need to replace the /dev/sdb1 for your acctual partitions.
The other way to do this job y using UDEV rules (as my concern, is the finest way to do this)
pleas refear to this link on how to use udev:
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/linux/udev-scsi-rules-configuration-in-oracle-linux-5-and-6.php#create_udev_rules_file
    Hope it's helps.

Does the continued absence of ASMLIB for RHEL AS 3.0 mean that automatic storage management is unavailable for this platform?
I have found very little mention of anyone using ASM on linux. Does the installation of Oracle on the ext3 file system remain the most common installation? I found it interesting, for example, that the file system install is the only installation type mentioned in guides such as on puschitz.com

what is the location to download asmlib for solaris

and you don't **need** asmlib on linux. I find it just gets in the way and performance is a bit slower when in use. Just my observation. YMMV.

  • Checking for kernel lock contention in OEL 5.5

Is there a lockstat utility for Enterprise Linux 5? Or how could I check for kernel lock contention?
I found a lockstat rpm for RHEL and Centos 4 at http://packages.sw.be/lockstat/, but I could not find it in the distribution of version 5?
The rpm package installs, but the command "lockstat on" shows /proc/lockmeter: No such file or directory
I found an interesting document named "Linux Kernel Lock Profiling with LockStat" at:
    http://dolavim.us/blog/2007/11/06/linux-kernel-lock-profiling-with-lockstat/
The document outlines the use of /proc/lock_stat, which is a text file - not using a "lockstat" utility.
From what I understand, I have to rebuild the kernel with "CONFIG_LOCK_STAT=y", or wait for kernel 2.6.24 to be released?
Do I have to build a custom kernel to check for lock contention, or are there perhaps other options?
    Thanks!

VIDX BITMAP NONUNIQUEYou have bitmap indexes here on a table being inserted into. Bitmap Indexes are another source of lock(and deadlock) in OLTP application. You said that the SQLloader was the unique active program but may be you are also triggering another procedure after the load. Procedure in which you might be using also automomous transactions and so on...
Check first if your table is subject to DML operation in a a multi-user concurrent accesss and in which case you have to get rid of those bitmap indexes

  • Re: No ASMLIB for Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel - over-sight or ASMLib death?

    Hi,
I originally resurrected a years-old thread that was down in the Oracle Linux forum that was vaguely related to my question but a kind forum moderator split my post away to let it stand on its own -- then moved it to the RAC installation forum where I should have gone to begin with.
    Anyhow, here's my post ...
I am trying to setup Oracle RAC 11gR2 as a prototype on one of the development machine.
During installation/configuration I am facing problems for ASMLib i.e. the asmlib not available. The oracle linux version is 6.1 and the kernel version is is 2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.x86_64 x86_64.
Can you please guide me how to check and install the ubreakable enterpise kernel has got all the required packages with respect to asm configuration.
Please accept apology as I am new to Oracle Linux and not fully aware of the unbreakable Enterprise kernel.
Your help, guidance and reply would be appreciated.

  • No ASMLIB for Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel - over-sight or ASMLib death?

Got excited reading about the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, but no asmlib drivers available.
ASMLib kicked off with a roar a few years ago, and it is great - better than UDEV for configuring storage devices for Oracle in my opinion - but the OTN ASMLib page is now buried away - takes ages to find it ( http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/linux/asmlib/index-101839.html ) and hasn't been updated in ages and neither has the ASMLIB project OSS page http://oss.oracle.com/projects/oracleasm-support/.
So is the lack of an ASMLib driver for UEK just an oversight or are we seeing the demise of ASMLib?

The ASMLib driver is built as part of the kernel. When you install the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, it's included in the package. Just go right ahead and start it up!
We're updating the online documentation over the next week or so to reflect this. Sorry for the confusion.

MohamedWhat is your linux and oracle version? To installing ASM you have to take correct version asmlib packages for your OS and kernel version. You have to install following packages.
    oracleasm-support-version.arch.rpm
    oracleasm-kernel-version.arch.rpm
oracleasmlib-version.arch.rpmRefer below link and download above correct rpms according your kernel version and install these.
