Aspect Ratio changes after relocating files

When I put my video files on a mybook for backup and after reconnecting the media something strange happened. I lost a part of my picture, as if the image has been zoomed in. How can I get my original image back?
All this using Final Cut Express 4.0.1

Yes they have, unfortunately. So it must be some other setting, but I still haven't found which one....

  • Aspect Ratio changes after the project was reopend

    hello everyone,
I have a project with mov-files with apect ratio 1,0, I wanted to change them to 1,33, so I went to interpret footage and change it to 1,33. Then I synchronized the mov-files with audio and made merged clips (all in 1,33). After that I saved the project and open it again and then the original mov-files are back to 1,0, the merged clips are in 1,33, but with a 1,0 footage (so the clips have black bars left and right). Does someone know what could be the problem? Am I doing something wrong so the footage won`t stay in new aspect ratio?

  • Aspect ratio changes in PPro CS4

    Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
When I export a project to a final video, the aspect ratio changes at different points in the video for no apparent reason.  These videos are typically under 10 minutes in length.  I use the same camera without changing any settings for every project and capture to PPro CS4 using the same settings for every project and using the same hardware.  And yet, I end up with different aspect ratios across a single video.  I have no idea why.  Some of my output clips have never had any titles, special effects, imported clips, or anything else that I think might cause a change in aspect ratio.
Can someone shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Thanks, Stan.
I just posted a draft video on Youtube for a client last night.  Not sure if viewing a clip of what I see will help you but I suspect it will.

If you go to about 4:34 in the clip you'll see it change over to a different aspect ratio.
This sequence was exported directly from PPro CS4 to FLV.  The FLV file was uploaded to Youtube.
I'm editing this morning and just came across this same issue again.
I'm amazed that none of my clients have mentioned it yet.  Of course, I'm not making Hollywood movies - these are just short videos people send out to college coaches.

  • Aspect ratio changes?

I have edited a short film shot entirely in 16:9 on a 4:3 timeline (unaware I was doing so). So when I export my "widescreen" film, it is a 4:3 video with black bars on the top and bottom. So what I thought was if I create a new project, use "DV-NTSC Anamorphic" with the Easy Setup option, and create a new sequence, my entire film will no longer have black bars at the top and bottom. It will just be a 16:9 video. Well, I was wrong. In the new setup, every single clip is "squished", and it looks like if I wanted to fix it, I'd have to go through every single clip, re-import it, and have an adjusted aspect ratio... and I don't want to do that. Is there an easier way?

How is the Aspect Ratio changing?
Was the shooting Mode changed on the camera, between scenes, say from Standard to Widescreen? That would be a change in PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), but would show up the difference in the Project.
Also, are you in PAL-land, or NTSC-land?
    Good luck,
    Hunt
Hi Hunt, no the shooting mode was the same - wide screen, dv cam pal

  • Pasting problem between sequences. Aspect Ratio changes. Help

Hi. I'm fairly new to FCP so be patient with me. I shot HD using the Panasonic format 1080i. I transferred the footage from the SDHC cards using Apple Pro Res 422, 1920x1080. Everything was going fine in editing until I tried to copy and paste clips from one sequence in the timeline into another sequence. The aspect ratio changed in the clips I pasted. I tried to figure out what to do by looking at Sequence Settings and Clip Properties but to no avail.
Any suggestions? I am building separate sequences and then need to paste these together to make a QT movie or DVD for client so need help asap. I've previously worked with JVC HD cams using the 720p24 codec and never had this trouble when cutting and pasting.
    Help!!

This is not weird at all. One sequence is set to use square pixels (1920x1080) the other is using non-square pixels (1440x1080).
You need to fix the non-square pixel timeline.
The simplest to understand method to fix the non-square sequence issue is to create a new sequence with the proper settings then copy your material over from the non-conforming sequence.
To get a new sequence with the proper settings (if you have FCP7) all you need to do is "create new sequence" then drop one of the clips into the new empty timeline. If the settings do not match, when the program asks you if you want to change the sequence to match the clips, say yes.
Then select all the clips in the non-conformed timeline and copy and past them in the new correct timeline.

  • Aspect Ratio Sort and Export (File Naming)

When I crop my photos, I sometimes find that some photos work best in the 4x5/8x10 crop and others in a 2x3/4x6 aspect ratio.
Issue #1) How can I sort and find all of my images with a specific aspect ratio?
When in the Library module and setting up a filter (ctrl+f), I don't see any way to filter and sort out my aspect ratio. In the "Metadata - Label" filter fields, there is an "Aspect Ratio" value however the only options are Portrait and Landscape. (more of a photo/page layout than 'aspect ratio' to me)
** Feature Request: Please add "Aspect Ratio" options (just as presented with "r" is pressed for resize) in the Library Filter Metadata. **
Issue #2) How can I include the aspect ratio of the image (e.g. 4x5) in the exported file name?
I don't see any way to to do this either, so I have to manually find all of the images with the same aspect ratio first, then set a Custom Name field for export and export each ratio at a time.
** Feature Request: Please add "Aspect Ratio" options to the file naming fields available for selection when exporting images.  Values like "4x5" and "4x6" would be great to be able to include in the filename of my images.

  • Cropping aspect ratio changes randomly

Each time I crop a new image, the aspect ratio seems to change randomly. Sometimes it will pop up as "Do Not Constrain." Sometimes it will appear as 4x5. Or 2x3. Etc. You get the idea. I have no idea why it's changing. It's very disruptive to the workflow. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
I encounter the issue on both my MacBook Pro and my iMac.

    Thanks, Stan.

  • Clips lose pixel aspect ratio setting after relinking

    hi there,
after reopening a project from a backup drive I had to relink all my media.
    no problem with that...
but after relinking all aspect ratios were lost. files are 2048x1536 anamorph (manually) set to an aspect of 1.33 and then scaled down to 1920x1080.
generally all settings were intact - the aspect ratio setting however was not. all clips had a square pixel setup after relinking.
    is this a bug?
    thanks!

  • Re: Aspect Ratio changes Mid Shot ?

After cutting a 20 minute film on FCP exporting through Compressor 3.0 and finishing on DVDSP the final film looks great except it changes Aspect Ratio intermittantly and very randomly. Orignally I thought it changed from 4:3 to 16:9 but the Aspect changes are more subtle; like 4:3 to 5:4
    The FCP Settings are
    Frame Size - 720 x 576 Aspect Ratio CCIR 601 / DV PAL (5:4)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio - PAL CCIR 601 (720 x 576)
    Field Dominance - Lower (Even)
    25 fps (I'm in Australia)
The Compressor Settting are (and this is SD DVD by the way)
    Format - M2V
    Width & Hieght - Auotmatic
    Selected : 720 x 576
Pixel aspect ratio - PAL CCIR 601
    Crop: None
    25 fps
    Aspect Ratio : Automatic
    Selected: 4:3
    Field Dominance: Auto
    Selected: Bottom first
    Average data rate: 6.2 (Mbps)
    2 Pass VBR enabled
    Max data rate: 7.7
    High Quality
    Best Motion estimation
Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong with Compressor?
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Marv

I solved my own question by exporting the project first as a QuickTime movie (not self-contained which is much slower & unnecessary for this task). I then put this through Compressor. Problem solved.
I found this answer by reading about similar questions on this forum & viewing a few tutorials on Compressor. Grateful thanks to this fantastic forum that seems tp answer any query I put to it.

  • Maintaining Photoshop aspect ratios in After Effects

    Hi there,
    I'm new to  adobe programs...
I'm having a problem when i try to import a 720 x 540 photoshop image into After Effect at the same ratio. After establishing the same settings, my image in AE is slightly cut off at the sides (along the width), as if pillarboxed just barely. There's an outline around the image that seems like it maybe be closer to the 720 X 540 aspect ration, but i don't know how to make the image fill it up.
    Any suggestions?

I your AE comp is 720 X 540 square pixels and your Photoshop file is 720 X 540 square pixels then the frame sizes match. If your AE comp is NOT square pixels or your Photoshop file was set to a non square pixel aspect ratio then AE will make the adjustments and you will see some distortion.
You need to learn about pixel aspect ratios and you need to make sure that the source footage is properly interpreted. 720 X 540 is the old standard for NTSC 4:3 square pixels and it will fit perfectly in a 720 X 486 rectangular pixel composition if you're using a pre CS version of AE. The new standard for NTSC square pixels with a 4:3 picture ratio is 720 X 534. This will translate perfectly into a 720 X 486 frame. Unfortunately DV video and most DVD formats are limited to 720 X 480 so 6 scan lines are lost. The playback device strips them off anyway so there not really missed.
To make your life easier just always plan on using the standard presets for your compositions and make all of your artwork square pixels. AE will properly interpret any DV footage you may import and will maintain a completely distortion free workflow. You can then use the Adobe Media encoder to render your deliverable DV or DVD product.
I hope this clears things up a bit. Pixel aspect ratios confuse everyone at first.

  • 16:9 aspect ratio "squashed after import

    Hi all,
I have some QuickTime movie files all of which are 16:9 widescreen. They appear correctly in QT and I've checked the properties in the "Show Movie Properties" window.
However, when I import them into IM, the image is shrunk to 5:4 with black areas at the sides. IM Prefs are set up OK for Widescreen import & the auto letterboxing option is un-checked.
The settings are correct as movies imported from camcorder retain the widescreen sizing.
Can anyone please tell me why these QT files are shrunk after import?
    Thanks,
    TT

If you have the ASPECT RATIO set correctly in Project Properties, then the other thing to check would be the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool. Pick a clip in your project and open the Fit, Crop, KB tool. You can toggle between Fit and Crop. Fit will include the entire image, but add black bars as needed. Crop will force fit by cutting off the top and bottom if necessary. If your source footage has the same aspect ratio as your project, then Fit and Crop are the same.

  • What is the fix for constarined crop aspect ratio changing when the image is rotated

I've migrated through LR 3, 4 and now 5 up to 5.4. I have been able to set a crop aspect ratio and synch pictures to that ratio as well as other editing selections. When I edit a particular picture and rotate it , the aspect ratio has stayed constant - to the value originally selected.I've never had a problem and it has consistantly worked properly even through last weeks editing activities. Now, when I set aspect ratio and then rotate, the aspect ratio really changes. If I go back and reset aspect ratio and select Done, it seems to be ok. This issue seems to perform wrong with portrait orientation but not in the landscape orientation. I have uninstalled LR, gone through registry cleanup, reinstalled LR, claened up the registry but nothing gets better. I do note that the settings aren't totally removed as the reinstalled software wants to pick up where I left it prior to uninstalling. As best as I can tell, all of my settings and preferences are the same as last week. It works on last weeks folders but not on new ones.
I have now seen many forum write-ups about this problem but have never found any solution. Help - I can't go through life cropping and straightening images sideways.

Here is a thread that I think addresses this problem.  There were MULTIPLE bugs in the crop tool when Lr5.0 came out, probably due to adding the Upright Tool, but they are slowly getting worked out.  Maybe this one will be fixed in Lr 5.5

  • Monitor: in CS2 how do I handle 4:3 to 16:9 aspect ratio change?

Hi, my first post here, so please be kind.
I have used Photoshop 9 successfully for several years using a conventional 4:3 aspect ratio CRT monitor.   I have just upgraded to a flat screen monitor which has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
I resized the Photoshop window to fill the new screen but transferring photographs from Adobe Bridge they were stretched horizontally.
This is the first time I have ever changed the format of my monitor and feel that somewhere in Photoshop there must be a feature which accommodates such a change; though I have spent serious time looking.
I can get the image to display properly by changing the Pixel aspect ratio, but I am certain that would result in saving a distorted image.
Please what do I need to do?
    Gordon

You're in luck, there's a pretty easy solution for this:
You must change your Windows desktop resolution to exactly match the "native" resolution of the new monitor, which is 1920 x 1080 in this case.
Usually you will be offered that choice automatically, but in some cases you'll need to "install" from a CD or downloaded information about the monitor.
There may also be some on-monitor controls you'll need to review to ensure it's showing the full 1920 pixels in width.
What version of Windows are you running, and what model of monitor is it, specifically?

  • Wrong aspect ratio (4:3) HDV files (16:9)

    Hi!
    I'm using iDVD 5.0.1.
My source video is HDV 1080i.
iDVD preview shows 16:9 aspect, but my burned DVD disks played in Apple DVD Player and regular DVD players are displaying 4:3 aspect ratio... (on 4:3 and 16:9 TV sets)
How can I fix this problem?

Thanks for info but I'm importing HDV 1080i (1920x1080) file from Final Cut5, not from iMovie...
The file has already aspect ratio of 1.777777 (16:9)
Of course I can recompress it to DV anamorphic codec (in QT Pro) and degrade even more image quality but it's worst scenario...

  • Aspect Ratio Change in FCPX?

    Hi.
I'd like to change the native aspect ratio in a 6sec clip from 16x9 to 2.35:1 in FCPX so the bars appear at the beginning of the clip and slowly close in, reaching 2.35:1 at the end of the clip.
Anyone know how this is done?
    Thanks

Create a 2.35 project using Custom settings.
Drop your 16:9 clip into the timeline.
Activate the Transform tool to get a bounding box.
    Set a key frame.
Move the playhead to where you want the image to fill the frame.
Scale up the image to fill the frame.
