ASPECT RATIO Elements 11

Is it possible that I LOST my aspect ratio option in tool options when cropping a photo for the website???  It is gone and I am sure it was there before. Using photo ratio, customer or other is no good for what I am doing. Please help someone.

Aspect Ratio does not appear in PSE11 Crop Tool.
This is the standard Tool Panel (you can enter your own dimensions in W & H):
And these are the standard drop downs:
File> New> Blank File allows you to create empty documents with various Film/Video aspect ratios.

  • Aspect ratio problem with consumer camera and Premiere Elements 11

    Hello everyone - I'm Steve. I'm new here. I do still photography on a pro level, digital and analog, but I am an absolute dummy with video...but then, I don't want to do much, just rudimentarily cut a few family videos, upload them, etc.
    However, I can't get Premiere Elements 11 to output my self-shot clips in a correct aspect ratio.
    My camera is a consumer-model Canon Legria FS200. I shoot video in a resolution the camera calls XP. The camera says they are 16:9, the camera monitor shows them as 16:9, and when I use the software (called Pixela Image Mixer) that came with the camera to import the clips to disk, I get mpg files that Windows (7) Explorer says are 720x576 pixel, and that VLC player correctly displays as wide-screen 16:9 without me having to tweak its display settings.
    However, the moment I import them into Premiere Elements, they appear horizontally squeezed, and I can't seem to output them any other way, with or even without editing them in Premiere.
    I tried to use the recipe given here: https://forums.adobe.com/message/5987538#5987538 , (replacing only NTSC with PAL because I'm in Germany),  namely, setting the project preset set manually for PAL/Hard Disk etc/ Widescreen 48kHz and check force selected program settings. But no matter, Premiere displays the video in horizontally compressed form, with large black bars to the right and to the left.
    On the export side, setting the output to PAL DVD Widescreen and setting the Pixel Aspect Ratio in the output settings to Widescreen does not help, either. Neither can I force VLC player manually to display the correct aspect ratio. BTW, audio is perfect all along.
    This is about as far as I can see myself getting without help. Has anyone any idea?
    Thanks a lot in advance,
         Steve, from Germany

    Steve
    I see that you are now in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum with your problem already solved.
    I did not see any Why for what you encountered, so I thought I would give you my take on this.
    Your Canon FS200 gives video with MPEG2 video compression with a .mod file extension. That .mod file extension can be found in use with some Canon as well as JVC cameras. The .mod file history with Premiere Elements (any version) is problematic. In some instances, the user needs to rename the file extension from .mod to .mpg before it can be imported, but not always. But, the .mod widescreen comes packaged with the aspect ratio dilemma, presenting as 4:3 rather than 16:9. The classical argument is whether Premiere Elements does not recognize a .mod file's 16:9 flag or whether the 16:9 flag got lost.
    There used to be a utility contributed by an user to handle the file extension and/or aspect ratio issues. Now, the general fix is to import the file into Premiere Elements (in your case 11) with Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets. And in Project Assets, you right click the file, select Interpret Footage, and go to the Pixel Aspect Ratio section of the Interpret Footage dialog where you
    (a) dot the Conform To:
    and
    (a) set the Contorm To: field to (in your case) D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1.4587)
    Once you are in the program and have the file on the Timeline, if any black edges, you can click the monitor to bring up the image's bounding box. Then drag on a bounding box handle to scale the image just to the point where the black edges are gone.
    If you ever need the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum, maybe bookmark this link
    Premiere Elements
    You should expect to have this issue with any .mod widescreen file that you obtain from your Canon FS200 camera.

    Add On...If you are depending on the program to set the correct project preset, you may want to check into what it is setting based on the properties the first file you drag to the Timeline. A manual setting of the project preset may be in order. Please see

  • Aspect Ratio problem with Premiere Elements 10

    I had old super 8 cine film transferred to video for me in December 2011 and put
    it onto a Blu Ray disc as AVCHD files.
    The disc is copied onto my computer and displays in the correct 4;3 aspect
    ratio on the Desktop and plays correctly in VLC media viewer.
    I have Adobe Premier Elements 10, but the video is “squeezed” narrow, e.g.
    a circle displays as an oval in Monitor, Timeline and Sceneline views.
    When I save the work to a disc it is also “squeezed”.
    Pictures/footage from my Sony AVCHD video camera display correctly on the
    Desktop and I have not had the above problem when editing it in Premier
    Elements 10. I have also edited 4:3 photos and 16:9 video aspect ratios together into
    without problems
    I would be grateful (and relieved) if you can tell me how to fix this
    please.

    Thanks to people who showed an interest and replied.
    Thanks especially to Kevin at digitacopycat who pointed me towards a workable solution within a couple of hours of posting the problem.

  • Video clips from Canon camcorder have wrong aspect ratio in Premiere Elements 11

    I recently purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 11 and I'm having trouble importing clips from my Canon FS300 camcorder.The camcorder records widescreen video at 720 x 480 pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio (presumably using non-square pixels) The clips play correctly in Windows Media Player, VLC, Real Player and several other players.  They do not display correctly in Quicktime or when imported into PE11, showing a 4:3 frame.  I have tried just about every New Project setting in PE11, but the closest result I can achieve is a 4:3 picture in a 16:9 frame. If I run the clips through the VLC Convert utility and output them using the Video - MPEG-2 + MPGA (TS) codec, the resulting clips import and play correctly in PE11. Is there some obscure setting I need to implement when importing these clips, or is PE11 just incapable of recognising file formats which seem to be no problem for most video players. I assume I have the necessary codecs installed, as the clips play correctly in other players.

    Thank you for your findings and comments on this matter of the handling of .the mod widescreen by Premiere Elements. One continues to learn whether they be a beginning, intermediate, or advanced user of Premiere Elements. That is the rewarding part of this type of discussion.
    I appreciated the manner in which you introduced the subject, stated the problem, gave your findings, and made your conclusions. I was particularly interested in the list of can do video editors. You need to go with what works for you.
    After your previous post and that of SG, I went searching for a .mod widescreen online to experiment with in Premiere Elements 11. I could not find one at the moment. But then I remembered that someone had sent me a sample for troubleshooting a few years back. I found it finally. The results are presented for interest value and hopefully not to stir up controversy.
    a. .mod to .mpg had no affect on the 16:9 issue in Premiere Elements 11...expected.
    b. taking the .mod widescreen into Premiere Elements 11 via the Video Importer had no affect on the 16:9 issue in Premiere Elements 11...expected.
    so far we seem to be in agreement in our findings.
    The only video editor that I have of the 4 that you mentioned that worked in this regard was Windows Live Movie Maker. Windows Live Movie Maker  came with my Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit computer so I took a look at the problem in that program. When I tried to import the .mod widescreen into that program via its Add Videos and Photos, it shutdown the program (.mod or .mpg file extenstion). Yet, when I imported that same file into Premiere Elements 11 on the same computer as Windows Live Movie Maker, it opened with no problem, but with the 16:9 issue that I could correct with the Interpret Footage feature.
    True, that was a sampling of one .mod widescreen file. But the statement of the comparsion was unexpected. Based on that, if you had not planned to, please consider the tryout of your next video editor for use with the .mod widescreen to avoid unexpected results which will delay you moving forward with your video projects.
    Success with your video editing projects whatever you decision,

  • Premier Elements 7 aspect ratio problem, XP

    I bought this program from a famous online store in UK and when I installed it I was unable to change the aspect ratio for my production. I got in touch with the trader who said they could not help me with this and gave me my money back, without asking for the disc back. I got in touch with Adobe and got stuck because the product key was invalid, yet I was able to register it okay. The software was sold online with the description of being used yet it came in a sealed paper disc envelope, with no box. I am not sure what to do now. Any ideas? Can this be fixed?

    Charles,
    As for the Aspect Ratio, this is set via Presets.
    Since you are in the UK, I will assume that you will want PAL. In the opening dialog, when asked for the Project, you should only have a choice of New and Exit.
    Choose New and you will be taken to a dialog box where you name and locacte your Project on your system. Look at the bottom for Settings. You will get another dialog box, with NTSC and PAL Project Presets. Choose PAL and then you can choose DV, Hard Disk, etc., and HDV. Select the appropriate one and choose Save as Default. You will then get a Project screen with the workings of PE. I do not think that it is much different for PE7 (I have PE4). Some of the names, or terms might be a bit different, but that would be all.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Elements 3.0- Aspect ratio of inserted pictures is skewed

    I am inserting some pictures into my project that are the exact same size (720x480) as my final video export, however, they are getting squished down in the previews and in the final export, look more like 640x480.
    Is there a way I can control this or prevent it from happening?
    Thanks in advance!

    If you've got Photoshop CS - CS4, you can change the pixel aspect ratio of your photos to .9 DV.
    Otherwise, you can right-click on one of the pictures on the timeline and select Open Properties. Then open the Motion settings and uncheck Constrain Proportions for Scale and set the scale for the horizontal to 90%. That should make that picture perfect.
    Then right-click on that picture on your timeline and select Copy, then lasso or shift-click to select all the other photos on your timeline, right-click and select Paste Attributes.
    Great book I wrote, by the way. Full of gems like this! ;)

  • How to fix an error in sequnece setting (aspect ratio)?

    Hi,
    I have been working for a while on a project in CS4. I have created a sequence in it with an aspect ratio (AR) of 4:3 - worked for hours on it - but I should had the sequence created instead in 16:9. I realised it a bit too late...
    So how do I fix it?
    Apparently amending the sequence setting for AR cannot be done - please let me know if there is any way of doing this.
    Someone suggested editing the PRPROJ file of the project - but when I opened it I was unable to detect under the sequence name (I found a few entries with it) where I can easily change the sequence to 16:9.
    So then I found people suggesting I copy/paste all the assets from the sequence into a new one that is correctly configured with 16:9. When I did this - CTRL+A and Copy, then paste into a new sequence in the same project - it copied all the clips and I think also all the transitions. But the key element that it did not copy over were all the changes I have done to the sound - I have been editing via the sound mixer (in Write mode) the sound, and then also made changes to the master track volume levels. These were not copied over.
    I really don't want to have to do the mixing all over again. If someone can explain how I can fix the problem in any way I would be most thankful.
    While I am here asking - another 2 small questions that have been bugging me:
    How I can copy and paste volume keyframes from either the master track or a clip and apply it on another clip/section of the clip that would be very helpful. This would for example be useful if I am able to find a certain volume level that I would like to apply to the desired section without the need to sit and "record" (using the Write function) those settings on the desired area. If there is any means to apply the properties on audio track this way - that would be really useful and time saving.
    A best practice hint: when you try and create a sound level for a project - what PC volume level setting do you set in your PC that you use as a benchmark by which we then work out the sound level that would be created in the project? Obviously if I push my PC volume al the way up I would probably mix my sound in the project too low. And if I set the PC volume too low - than I would probably be setting the overall sound level too high and get distortion. As the movies I created would be burnt onto a DVD - what is the volume level on the PC (if there is any means of establishing a standard volume) that I need to match first before I go and figure out what level of sound the finished DVD would have? Of course I can work on say a 50% and then apply gains and volume increases based on that 50% of the max sound my PC plays out. But that sounds pretty much like a random setting and not optimised for other devices.
    My system:
    Windows 7, 32-bit
    CS4, v. 4.2.1
    This looks like a fairly basic question but I am unable to find a good answer to it...
    Many thanks to the person who shows me how this can be done without me going crazy over the need to start all over again...
    Eroka00

    Hi Ann,
    Your tip saved me a lot of time indeed....!
    So I created a new sequence, made sure it was 16:9, copy pasted all of the assets, but then had to do the following:
    1. Copy/Paste Attributes for all the video clips (these do not transfer);
    2. As you suggested used the whole of the old sequence as a nested sequence in the new one, eliminating the video altogether.
    I still had a nagging issue that the project would not render or export well - but that turned out to be an issue with rendeiring large files (the video was an uncut clip of almost 10GB, andother of 6GB). Splicing these into 10 minute segments and rendering them separately did the trick.
    It's ben amlong Xmas weekend and endless hours spendt on this project. Yaikes!
    Thanks for the workaround idea!

  • Display aspect ratio is off

    I have just loaded PS Elements 7 on a new computer - HP lAPTOP, Core 2 Duo, Vista Ultimate (64 Bit), 22" external monitor. Every image file I open does not display correctly - the aspect ratio is off. If the image size is 8-1/2" x 11", it displays as if it were 4" x 11" (approximately).
    Other software displays the same file correctly....Help!

  • Adobe premiere update/aspect ratio problem/vista

    Can someone please help...
    I have already set up a video in Premiere 6.0 with a 16:9 aspect ratio. When it exports, the aspect ratio is between 16:9 and 4:3. My DVD authoring program reads it as 4:3, and cuts off part of the video, or adds black bars to the sides, depending on the the export settings.
    I have read that the premiere6.1 update, which I have downloaded will fix this issue, but it will not install in windows vista.
    is there an update that will install in vista out there somewhere?

    There is no such thing as a 6.1 update... there is 6.01 and 6.02 and nothing any later
    Since Premiere 6x is SO old, it is not surprising that it doesn't work properly on Vista
    You might want to download the trial of Premiere Elements (which has a different forum) to see if it will work for you

  • Black bars alongside video+squished aspect ratio on export

    I'm trying to get my import/export settings right--I keep getting black bars and a squished or stretched image when my videos export.  Since Elements doesn't read MOD I've been using miro to convert, which doesn't like to export to mp4 all that well to begin with (which furthers my diagnosis problems.)  I don't know anything about video image->pixel size (nor can I find anything online that makes sense to me) and canon's website doesn't tell me what my camera is shooting in in those terms, but I've been using the widescreen format--what is that size??  I'm not sure if this problem is because of defaulting project settings on import (Elements not picking up on the proper format and defaulting to something else), an exporting problem (I've tried all the different settings under publish+share>computer>mpeg4 and quicktime>NTSC DVD standard and widescreen, as well as every other export option I can think of), or a conversion problem (why doesn't Elements accept MOD to begin with?  Final Cut 7 does no problem!)  Everything looks good in the editing process, plays fine etc.
    Is this a simple fix?  The videos play fine in quicktime, but VLC catches the bars, which makes me think it's a simple solution to a complex diagnosis.  Please help, thanks.

    Thanks for the update.
    Let us look into the following next, one problem down (the aspect ratio), next the quality of playback of your Timeline as seen in the Edit Mode Monitor.
    1. Given that you are working with .mod widescreen 16:9.
    a. Open a new Premiere Elements 11 Mac project. Go to File Menu/New/Project and set the project preset yourself in the new project dialog. You want NTSC DV Widescreen. Make sure that you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on this Project" before you exit the new project dialog.
    b. Once back in the Premiere Elements workspace, go to Add Media/Files and Folders and import your mod.widescreen into Project Assets.
    c. Right click the .mod widescreen file in Project Assets, select Interpret Footage, and, in the Interpret Footage dialog, dot the Conform to: and set that to DV/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2121).
    d. Drag your .mod widescreen to the Timeline from Project Assets. Do you see no colored line over the content, an orange line, or a green line? If an orange line, render the Timeline with the Render button or pressing the Enter Key of the computer main keyboard. Is the .mod widescreen now display the same, worse, or better than before we started all this?
    Also, right click the monitor, select Playback Quality, and see if there is any difference in what you are seeing if you use Highest instead of Automatic as the set. Also check to see if Magnification there is "Fit" rather than other.
    Is your video card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card?
    Please review the above and let us know the outcome.
    Thanks.

    Although conversion .mod widescreen to another format is always a consideration, it has not been found to be necessary in essentially most cases. Classically, if an import problem with this type of file, the renaming of the .mod file extension to .mpg prior to import took care that while Interpret Footage took care of the aspect ratio issue.
    I just saw your note about MPEG Streamclip. That works great for Windows for conversion to DV AVI. Never tried it for a .mov export for Mac. But remember there is an option for 4:3 or 16:9 in that dialog (or there should be...I will take a look if you do not find it). So no distortion expected since MPEG Streamclip should be supplying that problematic 16:9 flag.

  • Aspect ratio off after saving

    I just installed Photoshop Elements 10 on my Mac (OS X). This is my first experience with the program. I edited a couple photos - red eye, cropping - and saved them. Now when I look at the edited photos in iPhoto, the aspect ratio is off. Any idea why this is?

    When you used crop you must have chosen a crop ratio in which you cropped your image. You can check more info on aspect ratio from Image->Resize->Image Size (it`s basically width/height or vice-a-versa depending on image orientation.
    You can also check at our help link http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/crop-resize-resample-photoshop-elements.html to know more here.

  • Preserve aspect ratio of whole stage

    I have an animation in Edge Animate 1.5. All its elements are defined with sizes and positions by percentage (rather than px), so it currently scales to completely fill the browser window of whatever size. Is there a way of forcing the stage to preserve its aspect ratio when the browser window is resized? In my case, I want it to remain square. I wonder whether the "resize" event on the stage might be relevant? But not sure what code to put in it...
    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Wes

    Right, almost got it, albeit in a hacky way. I edited the _edge.js file right at the end, to contain the following resize function. This forces the width and height of the stage to be equal to the smaller one of the two, and then sets left and top so that the stage is in the middle of the window if/when there is space either side. It seems to work ok - although is best done at the end, as Edge Animate removes the code if you load/save the project.
    The one thing left to fix is that I need to fire the resize function manually at the start - it doesn't do so automatically, and defaults to stage size 100% x 100% of the browser window. If anyone knows the best way to do that, I'd appreciate it!
    $(window).ready(function() {
         Edge.launchComposition(compId);
         $(window).resize(function() {
              var bodyheight = $(window).height();
              var bodywidth = $(window).width();
              var leftPos = bodywidth;
              var topPos = bodyheight;
              if (bodywidth<bodyheight) bodyheight=bodywidth;
              if (bodyheight<bodywidth) bodywidth=bodyheight;
              $("#Stage").height(bodyheight);
              $("#Stage").width(bodywidth);
              leftPos=0.5*(leftPos-bodywidth);
              $("#Stage").css("left",leftPos+'px');
              topPos=0.5*(topPos-bodyheight);
              $("#Stage").css("top",topPos+'px');
    })(jQuery, AdobeEdge, "PROJECT");

  • Powershot sx50hs aspect ratio in raw

    Hello, I'm having an issue with the aspect ratio in raw mode. I shoot both raw and jpeg I have set the aspect ratio to 16:9 which is how the jpeg is cpatured but the raw image is 4:3. What am I missing, how can I set the aspect ratio for both raw and jpeg to be 16:9 ? Thanks in advance

    The native aspect ratio for RAW files is 4:3 and cannot be changed. However, when you shoot both RAW and JPEG, there should be no issue when you go to process the RAW file. It should still recognize the aspect ratio you selected for the JPEG when you shoot both in RAW + JPEG. Perhaps the software you are using to process the RAW file does not recognize the aspect ratio and defaults to 4:3 only. I tried both the Canon software (Digital photography Professional) and Adobe Photoshop Elements and both had no problems with seeing the RAW as 16:9. Steve M.

  • Aspect ratio correction

    Hello
    My videos are encoded with a resolution of 640x480, but the aspect ratio must be 16:9, so I need to scale my videos to 848x480. This is my code:
    var ratioCorrection:LayoutMetadata = new LayoutMetadata();
    ratioCorrection.width = 848;
    ratioCorrection.height = 480;
    element.addMetadata(LayoutMetadata.LAYOUT_NAMESPACE, ratioCorrection);
    It works, but if I go to fullscreen the video doesn't scale at all. How can I change "internally" the size of the video, so if I scale my container it will scale the video correctly?
    Please help me! thanks.

    Hi,
    Looking at the numbers you use - in this post and previous one - you seem to confuse two things: the aspect ratio of the picture and the aspect ratio of individual pixel.
    The pixels that you initially work with - from your anamorphic video - are NOT square. They are stretched horizontally. Computer monitor always uses square pixels, therefore your numbers won't give you correct 16:9 picture. By changing the width/height in the layout property you simply change the number of pixels used.
    Changing your encoding numbers should solve the problem. You may want to go to forums such as FCP to clarify the issue.
