Aspect ratio of iPad mirror is not 4:3 when mirrored with Apple TV

Hi Everyone - I have just bought an Apple TV 3 and installed the device yesterday. I am using an LG HDTV and an iPad3. Everything works fine except one thing: When I mirror my iPad in landscape on the TV it appears with a wrong aspect ratio. This means I am NOT seeing a 4:3 picture of my iPad content on the screen, it rather looks like a 1:1 ratio. So the picture is "pressed together" from the left and the right. Any ideas how to solve the problem?
Before you answer - I am not talking about the black bars that appear when you mirror the 4:3 iPad on a 16:9 TV screen. This is not my problem and I know that black bars will appear eventually. I just do not get the proper aspect ratio of the iPad 4:3 on the TV screen - it rather appears as a square on the screen. This is only when I select mirroring - using airplay to see movies, youtube etc work perfectly fine.

I have now reset my TV but unfortunately the problem remains. I also do not have the possibility to set the horizontal / vertical stretch of the TV when the input signal is via HDMI - so also no option.
I could actually live with the wrong ratio presentation when mirroring the iPad.
What I find really annoying is that my photos do not scale properly. When I start a slideshow on Aple TV from the iPad, the photos, which have been taken in a 2:3 aspect ratio, do not come up properly on the TV screen. They are pressed together from the sides, so people are too thin (well - some may like it but that is a different topic ).
Apple TV works totally fine with all other applications, ie YouTube videos. These are presented perfectly! This is why I think it has something to do with how photos are sent to Apple TV - this must be different from videos and maybe somewhere there is the reason.

I will try to give as much information as possible. Dont scream at me if i forget anything. For starters, I just learned how to use Adobe Encore CS4. I taught my self between reading the help files and videos I found on the web. I am an amateur when it comes to DVD authoring (could have alot to do with my problem). Im an animator and I am making a DVD to show my demo reel, drawings, and i have a storyboard to final comparison video. I designed all of my menus in photoshop. I have one transition that was animated in after effects that was imported using dynamic link. My demo reel is a mov file at 640x360 widescreen, half the size of HD 720p. The comparison video is a premiere file from dynamic link (same size as the demo reel). There is some background music for the menus. Then I have 3 slideshows, and i believe this is where the error is coming from. Most of the artwork has the same dimensions but there are some that are larger or smaller. Some are jpg, but most are PSD files. The slide show is set to manual advance with music in the background. I have no transition effects on the slideshow. When building the DVD, i believe when it says "starting project" after all the importing was done,i get the error

I just tried to build the DVD without the slideshow and I still get the error. Possibly a menu issue? I have no idea. Ive ran into errors before but I was able to get through the others. I just cant seem to find a solution to this error. Even after searching the forums for similar problems. Hopefully, the solution is simple. If more info is needed let me know. I really need this DVD to send out for jobs!! Thanks everyone.

When doing SlideShows, whether in Encore (somewhat limited), or in PrPro, it is always better to re-size outside of these programs, prior to Import. I use Photoshop (PS) to do this, and use an Action to get everything in the proper Mode, Color Space, Size - everything. I always do a Save_As and use .PSD files. I also Save a working version, incase I have Flattened, etc., for Import into the NLE/authoring app.
JPEG's *should* work fine too, though there is the JPEG compression to deal with. Might not be an issue, but for max quality, I start with RAW images, process to .PSD's, and then work from copies of these, to get my still Assets ready for PrPro, or En.
I either size exactly to my Project Preset, or to exactly what I need, if say I will pan across a zoomed out image. In a major Project, I may have sub-folders with 4 different sizes of image - based precisely on what I will need to do with that/those image(s). If I will not need to do any animation on any images, then I use that Project Preset (including the correct PAR) and they work perfectly. This also eliminates any unnecessary overhead on the system.

While I have used Premier Pro for some time, I am only an occasional creator of DVD. Today I have had the error message above, but am unsure where to start to sort it out.
I have loaded up an HVD original (1440*1080) into PP and then, after some editing used Dynamic Link to 'Send to Encore'. This worked fine and I can see edits in PP cause the Encore footage to be updated
However, when I try to build the project, for output to a DVD folder, I get a message stating:
PGC "File name.prproj" has an error at time X
The Aspect Ratio of this file is not supported by DVD-PGC Info: name = filename, ref=Bpgc, time = X
I'm pretty sure I've done something simple and/or stupid, but can anyone point me in the right direction?
I tried to search the forums for aspect ratio, but with no luck

Do you mean HDV via Firewire from a camera?
That format will not work on a DVD, which is 720x480 (US, foreign is slightly different)
Someplace along the line, you need to downsize to be legal for a DVD

Last time I sent back to the service center and they said it is the system problem and reset the system and charge me for the service because they said it is not a hardware problem. i plugged it and pressed the home button for a few seconds. the connect to itunes screen appeared and the moment i disconnect the cable from the electric plug, it switches off. when i connect the cable to the PC, nothing happens, its as if nothing has been done.

Settings>Sounds>Keyboard Clicks>On. If the setting is correct, you may have muted system sounds.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

If the battery is very low, it can take 15 minutes or maybe even longer befor you will see any response at all on the screen. If you have let the iPad charge for what you think is a sufficient length of time and it still hasn't shown any signs of life, try a reset and see if that will force it to start up.
Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo apperas on the screen and then let go of the buttons. If that still doesn't work, try charging the device again overnight. If it's still dean in the morning, try restoring the device with iTunes.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
If that doesn't work, make an appointment at an Apple Store and seek their guidance.

Apps and Music are not from iCloud. Are from iTunes and App Store.
You can change this from: Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Sign out and sign in with new ID, but you will have to pay again to download apps that you already have in your old account. Or leave it as it is to share purchases with your son.

If the HDMI input to the Samsung is not compatible, does it have a VGA or composite input? I have both the HDMI and VGA adapters for the iPad, which work with the small Vizio HDTV I tried. I understand a composite video adapter is also available.

settigns>itunes and app store to make sure you are signed in.. If you are, you will see your account name..... anyhow, click your account name, sign out and sign back in
also go to to settings>general>reset and reset network settings... if that doesnt work settings>general>reset and reset all settings!

Yes you can open Word files. If it is an email attachment you can simply tap and hold down on the icon and select "open in" and then select Pages - as long as you have the Pages app on the iPad.

PAL aspect ratio: 720 x 576 is not 4:3

I've just "Shared" my first movie using Full Quality. I thought it looked a bit odd. Comparing the original with the compressed version in Quicktime, the QT version is obviously narrower.
Checking the QT details gives 720 x 576. The imported video looks like 4:3 to me. That should come out as 720 x 540.
Somewhere on another posting I think I saw the NTSC version as 640 x 480. That's 4:3.
No-one else seems to have brought this up (I have looked, but I may have missed it), so I'm beginning to think it's me and I'm losing the plot!
If I'm right, how do I get round it? Would QT Pro allow the movie to be resampled to 4:3?

So:
To convert rectangular pixel PAL 720x576 DV to square pixel image you should scale to 788x576, then optionally crop it with 10 pixels from both sides so that the final image is 768x576.
To convert rectangular pixel NTSC 720x480 DV to square pixel image you should scale to 656x480, then optionally crop it with 8 pixels from both sides so that the final image is 640x480.
And to the other direction:
To convert a 4:3 (2048x1536, 768x576 etc) square pixel still image to PAL 720x576 rectangular pixel video, you should resample to 702x576, then pad with 9 black pixels to the sides so that the final image is 720x576.
To convert a 4:3 (2048x1536, 640x480 etc) square pixel still image to NTSC 720x480 rectangular pixel video, you should resample to 702x480, then pad with 9 black pixels to the sides so that the final image is 720x480.
