"Aspect Ratio of this file is not supported"

HI
While I have used Premier Pro for some time, I am only an occasional creator of DVD.  Today I have had the error message above, but am unsure where to start to sort it out.
I have loaded up an HVD original (1440*1080) into PP and then, after some editing used Dynamic Link to 'Send to Encore'.  This worked fine and I can see edits in PP cause the Encore footage to be updated
However, when I try to build the project, for output to a DVD folder, I get a message stating:
PGC "File name.prproj" has an error at time X
The Aspect Ratio of this file is not supported by DVD-PGC Info: name = filename, ref=Bpgc, time = X
I'm pretty sure I've done something simple and/or stupid, but can anyone point me in the right direction?
I tried to search the forums for aspect ratio, but with no luck
Many thanks

Do you mean HDV via Firewire from a camera?
That format will not work on a DVD, which is 720x480 (US, foreign is slightly different)
Someplace along the line, you need to downsize to be legal for a DVD

  • The aspect ratio of this file is  not support by DVD. Possible slideshow error?

    hello everyone,
I will try to give as much information as possible.  Dont scream at me if i forget anything.  For starters, I just learned how to use Adobe Encore CS4.  I taught my self between reading the  help files and videos I found on the web.   I am an amateur when it comes to DVD authoring (could have alot to do with my problem).  Im an animator and I am making a DVD to show my demo reel, drawings, and i have a storyboard to final comparison video.  I designed all of my menus in photoshop.  I have one transition that was animated in after effects that was imported using dynamic link.  My demo reel is a mov file at 640x360 widescreen, half the size of HD 720p.  The comparison video is a premiere file from dynamic link (same size as the demo reel). There is some background music for the menus. Then I have 3 slideshows, and i believe this is where the error is coming from.  Most of the artwork has the same dimensions but there are some that are larger or smaller.  Some are jpg, but most are PSD files.  The slide show is set to manual advance with music in the background. I have no transition effects on the slideshow.  When building the DVD, i believe when it says "starting project" after all the importing was done,i get the error
The aspect ratio of this file is  not support by DVD. PGC info: name= Figure Drawing (name of the slideshow and a menu button) ref=Fpgc, time=234.2340s
I just tried to build the DVD without the slideshow and I still get the error. Possibly a menu issue? I have no idea. Ive ran into errors before but I was able to get through the others.  I just cant seem to find a solution to this error. Even after searching the forums for similar problems. Hopefully, the solution is simple. If more info is needed let me know.  I really need this DVD to send out for jobs!! Thanks everyone.

When doing SlideShows, whether in Encore (somewhat limited), or in PrPro, it is always better to re-size outside of these programs, prior to Import. I use Photoshop (PS) to do this, and use an Action to get everything in the proper Mode, Color Space, Size - everything. I always do a Save_As and use .PSD files. I also Save a working version, incase I have Flattened, etc., for Import into the NLE/authoring app.
JPEG's *should* work fine too, though there is the JPEG compression to deal with. Might not be an issue, but for max quality, I start with RAW images, process to .PSD's, and then work from copies of these, to get my still Assets ready for PrPro, or En.
I either size exactly to my Project Preset, or to exactly what I need, if say I will pan across a zoomed out image. In a major Project, I may have sub-folders with 4 different sizes of image - based precisely on what I will need to do with that/those image(s). If I will not need to do any animation on any images, then I use that Project Preset (including the correct PAR) and they work perfectly. This also eliminates any unnecessary overhead on the system.
    Good luck,

  • "The aspect ratio of this file is not supported by DVD" Error

    Hi everyone,
I've gone to build my project, transcoded ALL of the video files used in it, and when Encore goes to create my first timeline the above error pops up.
Just for reference and to save people asking questions, I did check my project before I went to build it, and I'm using PAL 16:9 footage for all of my project. Please Help! I desperately need to have this finished!
    Desperately,
    Brett.

Could it be that you used a 4x3 menu template, instead of 16x9? Are you sure that all your assets are 16x9?

    Steve,
Not to sure what type AVI files they are, the storage devise is at present offshore on a job.
Can you clarify, if you edit/import video footage with adobe premiere 10 and then create a file, the file or the original raw footage is not stored on computer for re-use, if it is stored, is it stored in the original format.
Also please find details of storage devise,

  • Aspect Ratio of this File not Supported by DVD

I spent alot of time create a 1 hour + video sequence in PremierPro, but when I set it up I mistakenly picked 16:9 instead of 4:3 thinking I want the widescreen output eventually.  I dynamic linked to Encore, built several DVD menu, submenus etc...then when I went to build (burn the DVD) I get the aspect ratio error.  I realize I cannot change the way I set up the PremierPro set up.  But is there a workaroud or some alternative so I can create the menus etc to so it is interactive in a DVD player?  Is there a different way to import and encode differently so that I can burn the DVD?  Or can I get a different DVD type...any help appreciated...I have about 40 hours into this video???
    thank you, Brett

    Stan….many thanks for the feedback….
I thought of that but since I didn’t think you could copy the assets very efficiently I didn’t consider it for too long….the sequence is over an hour and has over 100 clips, plus audio…I will play around with the copying….like Excel and other programs, can you click on the first clip and the last clip and copy all at once??
On the menu issue, I only have a couple of hours into that so it makes sense to re-do the Encore….interestingly though I created custom menu and submenu files using the “WIDE” version of the Premier corporate templates and have used those, I am assuming if it has a WIDE reference that it is 16:nine….
The crazy thing for me is that I actually created a “test” DVD directly from Premier and for the life of me can’t remember how I did it….it actually works fine in a DVD player but with no menus and chapter marks, you can’t do scene selections and jump etc…
And yes on the interactive reference I mean disk navigation…
I really appreciate the help and feedback….

  • What does the Error Message: "File format not supported" mean?

When I first open an existing project, I get an Error Message: "File format not supported".   After a few seconds all the windows open up and I can continue to edit.  My question is will this "File format not supported" haunt me later or shall I continue to edit as I am doing? Why does this error message come up?  All the current footage is shot on same camera, the Canon 5D Mark III at 23.98 time code rate,  1920 x 1080.

  • How to solve "this type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed"?

    Hi all,
I've just started using a new computer with WIndows 8.1 within the last week and have loaded my Adobe Premiere Elements 11.0 software into it.
In trying to view and edit a video I created on my old computer, I got "Media Pending" and "Media Offline" notices as soon as I began. The source files are located on an external drive with a permanent letter designation. I began the process of reconnecting my Project Assets files with the source files this morning, but have now encountered a new roadblock. Each time I try, I get the message "this type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed." It offers no information or options other than to click "OK," which is not very helpful.
All the source files are located in one folder on my external drive. I have been able to reconnect the JPEGs and the mp3 source files but not the AVI video files.
Here are three screenshots. The first is the "Media Offline" message, the second is the message I receive when I try to reconnect my Project Assets to the source files and the third is a screenshot of the codecs installed on the new computer.
Here is my new computer information:
    Model: Del Inspiron 3847
    Intel Core i5-4460
    CPU @ 3.20 GHz  3.20 GHz
    RAM 8 GB
    System type: 64-bit, x64-based processor
I hope someone can guide me. What do I need to do to solve this problem?
    Thank you.

Thank your for the information supplied.
But, what are the properties of this .avi file that you seek?
    Video Compression
    Audio Compression
    Frame Size
    Frame Rate
    Interlaced or Progressive
    Pixel Aspect Ratio
Right now of prime interest is the video compression that is being wrapped by that AVI wrapper/container.
    AVCHD.avi
    MotionJPEG.avi
    XviD.avi
    DviX.avi
    other
There are instances were a particular video compression or a particular container/wrapper format is each supported by Premiere Elements, but
not a combo of those particular two. But, in this instance, I suspect this to be a MotionJPEG video codec issue, but your details will
point us to the actual situation, and we will plan troubleshooting strategy from there.

  • Error Message: This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed?

I am trying to get media from my computer, and I only receive this error message :
This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed?
What should I do? I have a window 8 laptop. My video files are from my itouch/ipod. I am using Premiere Elements 7.
I have used this software with success before. HELP would greatly be appreciated!

    darlingdarleen
Did both laptop 1 and 2 have QuickTime (latest version or any version) installed on the computers with Premiere Elements 7 when you got this "this type of file......" message?
If you go to the opened Premiere Elements 7 projects involved and look at Share/Personal Computer/QuickTime, do you find that QuickTime Presets are shown and that you find export settings choices under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab?
Look at the file name of the video. Do you see any irregularies in the name of the file, dots and such?
If you record new iPod footage, open a new Premiere Elements project, and import that iPod footage, do you still get the error message? Putting aside, iTouch, what model iPod are these videos coming from?
    Thanks.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on? And, what video card/graphics card does that computer use?
Is this the first time you are using Premiere Elements 10 or have you worked with it before successfully? There is no easy solution until we
know the details and troubleshoot to determined what caused the problem.
    1. Can you open a new project?
    2. After you saved/closed the problem project, did you move, delete, or rename any of the files/folder that were related to the source media
    for that project?
    3. Please review the Adobe document on troubleshooting damaged projects.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 12: This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed

Hallo! I use Adobe Premiere Elements 12 on my computer (PC, windows 7). When I try do re-open my projects on Adobe Premiere Elements I get the message: This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed. The file type of my saved projects is: Adobe Premiere Elements Project (.prel). The same happens when i try to re-open the auto save files. This is very annoying because I losse all my earlier work. I would be really grateful for help. Best regards, Stefan

With the QT Player installation, you should have Apple's H.264 CODEC.

  • Bootcamp support drivers "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running"

    Hi,
I've searched everywhere I can think of for a solution to this problem with no success. I see other people have reported similar issues and these have not yet been resolved.
I have installed Windows 7 32 bit on a new Mac Mini under Bootcamp. When I go to install the Bootcamp drivers in Windows, I get the message "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running".
Other people have reported this issue when trying to install 3rd party software on a 64 bit version of windows but I'm simply trying to install the Bootcamp drivers on a 32 bit version of Windows.
Is it possible the Mac Mini needs a 64 bit version of Windows installed under Bootcamp? I haven't seen this requirement mentioned anywhere.
Appreciated all and any help that can be offered.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's because the Late 2012 iMac and Mac mini only supports the 64-bit Windows 7 version, so the drivers you downloaded are designed to work with the 64-bit version and you can't install them on a 32-bit version. Install the 64-bit Windows 7 on your computer

  • This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed.

About two months ago, I was able to edit these files and create videos from them. Now I get the following message: This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed.
Aside from regular Windows updates, nothing has been added or removed from my PC.
I’m using fully patched Windows 7
    Premiere Elements 8.0
Canon T2I Hi def movies are .MOV

I can't believe that tech challenged moi is replying to the codec issue.  I bought a new computer with Windows 7.  I won't go into the tech issues with a Windows update....   Anyway I downloaded Photoshop Elements 8 and figured out how to import my photos and videos to Photoshop on the new comptuter.  Photos were fine but videos wouldn't play.  I got the messages about Apple's Quicktime required and then the "required codec is not installed".  I went "What is a "codec"!
I downloaded Quicktime which went smoothly but I still had the "required codec not installed" message to deal with.  I researched and found that it referred to compressed/decompressed files(?)  Next I googled "Windows 7 codec download" (not even sure if there was one).  There was!   I clicked on the first result and downloaded the codec.  The info stated that this codec should read 99.9% of video files.  Went back to Photoshop and clicked on the blue video thumbnail.  It worked!!!  The video played just as it did on the old computer.
Hope this helps someone else.  Now why would Windows 7 not include this codec in the first place.  I never had to download one before on other computers.  Only Quicktime needed downloading.  Oh, well.

Posting "Check the 'More like this'" area and not simply providing the answer is a great way to make these groups worthless.
You're ignoring context.  On the old Apple Discussion Groups I never posted replies like that, instead giving people relatively detailed answers.  The new Apple Support Communities made things worse by introducing certain inefficiencies.  Then came Lion.  The flood of messages that came with Lion required a painful choice for any of the people who had been helping here: (1) Give quality responses to a few questions and ignore the rest.  (2) When applicable, give a brief answer such as the one that you found objectionable.  (3) Give up all the other normal activities of life and spend full time trying to answer questions here.
People who needed help with Lion problems seemed to have trouble discovering existing message threads that described how to solve their problems.  I never posted the suggestion of "Check the 'More like this' area" without verifying that the help that the poster needed could be found there.  Even doing that, what I posted saved me time that I could use to help someone else.
The people helping here are all volunteers.  None of them is being paid for the time they spend here.  They all have a life outside of Apple Support Communities.  It's arrogant of you to demand that people helping here spend more time than they already do.

    Hi,
I have a smart camera NI 1722 and I want to save images that I aquire. I use the "IMAQ Write file 2.vi" and I always get this error: "Writing files is not supported on this device".
Is the smartcam really doesn't support to write images in a folder? I've tried to change the path (on the smartcam and on our server) but I always get the same error.
I use LabVIEW Real-Time 8.5.1, LabVIEW 8.5.1, NI Vision 8.5 etc (all the lastest versions of LabVIEW).
    Thank you for helping me,
    Stephanie

    Hello
If you already flattened the image, you can now save it on the hard disk of the smart camera.  To load the image, you will have to un-flatten with an image again.  See the attached document to see the block diagrams.
I did it for a template in a pattern matching program and worked!!!
