Aspect Ratio of this File not Supported by DVD

I spent alot of time create a 1 hour + video sequence in PremierPro, but when I set it up I mistakenly picked 16:9 instead of 4:3 thinking I want the widescreen output eventually.  I dynamic linked to Encore, built several DVD menu, submenus etc...then when I went to build (burn the DVD) I get the aspect ratio error.  I realize I cannot change the way I set up the PremierPro set up.  But is there a workaroud or some alternative so I can create the menus etc to so it is interactive in a DVD player?  Is there a different way to import and encode differently so that I can burn the DVD?  Or can I get a different DVD type...any help appreciated...I have about 40 hours into this video???
thank you, Brett

Stan….many thanks for the feedback….
I thought of that but since I didn’t think you could copy the assets very efficiently I didn’t consider it for too long….the sequence is over an hour and has over 100 clips, plus audio…I will play around with the copying….like Excel and other programs, can you click on the first clip and the last clip and copy all at once??
On the menu issue, I only have a couple of hours into that so it makes sense to re-do the Encore….interestingly though I created custom menu and submenu files using the “WIDE” version of the Premier corporate templates and have used those, I am assuming if it has a WIDE reference that it is 16:nine….
The crazy thing for me is that I actually created a “test” DVD directly from Premier and for the life of me can’t remember how I did it….it actually works fine in a DVD player but with no menus and chapter marks, you can’t do scene selections and jump etc…
And yes on the interactive reference I mean disk navigation…
I really appreciate the help and feedback….

  • The aspect ratio of this file is  not support by DVD. Possible slideshow error?

    hello everyone,
I will try to give as much information as possible.  Dont scream at me if i forget anything.  For starters, I just learned how to use Adobe Encore CS4.  I taught my self between reading the  help files and videos I found on the web.   I am an amateur when it comes to DVD authoring (could have alot to do with my problem).  Im an animator and I am making a DVD to show my demo reel, drawings, and i have a storyboard to final comparison video.  I designed all of my menus in photoshop.  I have one transition that was animated in after effects that was imported using dynamic link.  My demo reel is a mov file at 640x360 widescreen, half the size of HD 720p.  The comparison video is a premiere file from dynamic link (same size as the demo reel). There is some background music for the menus. Then I have 3 slideshows, and i believe this is where the error is coming from.  Most of the artwork has the same dimensions but there are some that are larger or smaller.  Some are jpg, but most are PSD files.  The slide show is set to manual advance with music in the background. I have no transition effects on the slideshow.  When building the DVD, i believe when it says "starting project" after all the importing was done,i get the error
The aspect ratio of this file is  not support by DVD. PGC info: name= Figure Drawing (name of the slideshow and a menu button) ref=Fpgc, time=234.2340s
I just tried to build the DVD without the slideshow and I still get the error. Possibly a menu issue? I have no idea. Ive ran into errors before but I was able to get through the others.  I just cant seem to find a solution to this error. Even after searching the forums for similar problems. Hopefully, the solution is simple. If more info is needed let me know.  I really need this DVD to send out for jobs!! Thanks everyone.

When doing SlideShows, whether in Encore (somewhat limited), or in PrPro, it is always better to re-size outside of these programs, prior to Import. I use Photoshop (PS) to do this, and use an Action to get everything in the proper Mode, Color Space, Size - everything. I always do a Save_As and use .PSD files. I also Save a working version, incase I have Flattened, etc., for Import into the NLE/authoring app.
JPEG's *should* work fine too, though there is the JPEG compression to deal with. Might not be an issue, but for max quality, I start with RAW images, process to .PSD's, and then work from copies of these, to get my still Assets ready for PrPro, or En.
I either size exactly to my Project Preset, or to exactly what I need, if say I will pan across a zoomed out image. In a major Project, I may have sub-folders with 4 different sizes of image - based precisely on what I will need to do with that/those image(s). If I will not need to do any animation on any images, then I use that Project Preset (including the correct PAR) and they work perfectly. This also eliminates any unnecessary overhead on the system.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • "Aspect Ratio of this file is not supported"

    HI
While I have used Premier Pro for some time, I am only an occasional creator of DVD.  Today I have had the error message above, but am unsure where to start to sort it out.
I have loaded up an HVD original (1440*1080) into PP and then, after some editing used Dynamic Link to 'Send to Encore'.  This worked fine and I can see edits in PP cause the Encore footage to be updated
However, when I try to build the project, for output to a DVD folder, I get a message stating:
PGC "File name.prproj" has an error at time X
The Aspect Ratio of this file is not supported by DVD-PGC Info: name = filename, ref=Bpgc, time = X
I'm pretty sure I've done something simple and/or stupid, but can anyone point me in the right direction?
I tried to search the forums for aspect ratio, but with no luck
    Many thanks

    >HVD original (1440*1080)
Do you mean HDV via Firewire from a camera?
That format will not work on a DVD, which is 720x480 (US, foreign is slightly different)
Someplace along the line, you need to downsize to be legal for a DVD

  • "The aspect ratio of this file is not supported by DVD" Error

    Hi everyone,
I've gone to build my project, transcoded ALL of the video files used in it, and when Encore goes to create my first timeline the above error pops up.
Just for reference and to save people asking questions, I did check my project before I went to build it, and I'm using PAL 16:9 footage for all of my project. Please Help! I desperately need to have this finished!
    Desperately,
    Brett.

Could it be that you used a 4x3 menu template, instead of 16x9? Are you sure that all your assets are 16x9?

  • ASpect ratio not supported by DVD... WHY???

So I've been tearing my hair out over this problem. I'm using Adobe Encore CS3, and attempting to build a DVD. I've made tons of DVDs using these files before, without a problem, and now I seem to be having issues for an unknown reason.  My files are all 16:9, and I've made sure to interpret the footage to 1.2 pixel aspect ratio. Everything seems to be working perfectly, but when I try to build, I get an error:
PGC "(timeline)" has an error at 0.4004s. The aspect ratio of this file is not supported by DVD. -PGC Info: name = (timeline name), ref = HApgc, time = 0.4004s
I've tried conforming the footage to all the different aspect ratios, but nothing seems to work. Help would be much appreciated!  Oh, and just so you know, my files are all .mpg, and I have no button animations, just regular text buttons. I used Sony Vegas to render the original files, and I've never had this issue in Encore before, and I've done nothing differently as far as rendering and setting up the project goes.

    The PGC error is deadly.
Have you moved your media or project files, or your project folder?
Have you overwritten any of the media files with newer versions?  If you
can answer yes to any of these questions, then you may well be out of
luck with this project.  Often with the PGC error, starting a brand-new
project from scratch is the only solution.  You can try saving the
project under a different name, then closing and launching En and
opening a different project.  From there, go to Edit | Preferences |
Media and clean the media cache database.  Then re-open your re-named
project.  It probably won't work, but it's worth a try just in case it does.

  • PGC, aspect ratio not supported by DVD, please advice!

I hope someone can help me!
During the build of the DVD the following error occurs:
RPC "Extra 's" has an error at 0.0000s.
The aspect ratio of this file is not supported by DVD.
    PGC info: name=Extra 's ref-HApgc. time=0.0000s.
The "Extra 's" is one of the menus I used in this project, it is an exisiting Encor template, I used two buttons for two SD clips.
    I am using CS-4.
    Please help!!!

I completly rebuild the project with the same template menus and all clips, no luck, it gives the same error.
Then i rebuild the complete project in a new projectfile with a different menu template, succes!!!
I'm using CS-4 from the beginning and had no such problems at all.
Anyway, i 'm burning the DVD 's now so i am happy although i still don 't know what causes the previous problems.
    Thanks for your support!

  • Just upgraded to Lion and can no longer import any .mov files ("file not supported") to 3.1.3.  Also can no longer view any .mov or .mp4 files already in library.

Have been using Aperture 3.1.3 with no problems.  Importing from a Nikon D80 (RAW & JPEG), Casio (.MOV) and Flip (.mp4).  Could import and view all videos without issue prior to Lion upgrade.  After Lion installation, can no longer import .mov files (get "file not supported" error) or even view any .mov or .mp4 files currently in library (even though thumbnail is present).  Can watch the .mov files directly on my camera using Quicktime in Finder but can't even drag & drop that file into Aperture.  Anybody else having similar problems?

Still no resolution and Geniuses at store could not assist.  Unfortunately, it looks like not all the applications were ready to support the Lion operating system.  We could not import any .mov files, could no longer view any .mov files already in my Aperture library and could not email any .mov files.  Totally frustrated.  Use Aperture almost daily and can't lose the video functionality.  Was also running dog-slow.  Constantly looking at the spinning wheel.  Geniuses suggested that I wipe out hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.  Had full backup on external drive with Time Machine.
Not an easy process though...had to reinstall several times (at 5 hours each time) because I continued to have issues.  Finally figured out that I needed to delete every backup file from Time Machine on external drive from the date I installed Lion because some of the hidden files were still migrating back to Snow Leopard.
    I had to:
    1. Delete all time machine backup files from date/time of Lion installation forward
    2. Do "clean" installation of Snow Leopard (wiped hard drive using disk utility and booted with Snow Leopard disc)
    3. Chose option to reinstall from backup off Time Machine which eventually got me back to Snow Leopard desktop
    4. Deleted Aperture program and reinstalled (I had to install Aperture 2 and then install Aperture 3 upgrade.
    5. Reinstalled iLife apps
    5. Applied all Apple updates available (again this took a few hours because there were several updates from Snow Leopard's original release plus Aperture 3 and other application updates)
Still doing some tweaking on some of my other apps but got everything back to where I originally was.  Now plan to wait on a few version updates from Lion before reinstalling.
I am one of Apple's biggest fans, but was very disappointed in the fact that I lost functionality in one of their own pieces of software (which I use the most!)  by installing Lion.

  • TV 32tl838g DLNA Video File not supported

    Hi,
I bought a new TV, 32TL838G 3D LED, but I'm not happy with it.
It says it supports DLNA, but for some reason I can't watch any video with DLNA. I had DivX activated, but it didn't help much..
And i've tried a lot of different videos (with different codecs) but I can't play any of them..
The strange part, is that I can play all those videos if I put them in a USB Pen drive..
And the problem is not in my DLNA server, as with other DLNA devices I'm able to reproduce those videos, so this is an issue with this TV.
I hope that someone here could explain me why this happens, and how to fix it, or at least that a new firmware will fix this (as if with USB videos are playable, then its not hardware but more likely a software issue)
This is completely unacceptable, when a feature is announced it HAS TO work properly.

I'm using Windows 7, it supports DLNA so I don't need to install any other software..
In TV I can browse all movies and folders that I have shared in my Win7 computer, the problem is that I can't watch any movie ,as it says File not supported.
If I put the same movie in a Pen Drive, and plug the pen drive in the TV than I can watch it without any issue..
The problem is when I try to watch movies in TV using the DLNA..
The TV is connected to LAN by wire, not wireless..
Again, In other devices, like with my Android phone, I can watch movies that I have in my Win7 Computer without any issue, using DLNA (with Samsung Allshare app)
    Thanks

  • Tried Most Everything... Error Type of file not supported... codec not installed

Hi Friends: I have been battling with the error message of ... "Type of file not support or codec not installed."  I have been throughout the forums searching for answers and attempting various suggestions.  I am stumped and am reaching out for some wisdom and help.
1.)    System Gateway – T-6859u, Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2Ghz, 4 Gig ram, Problem has existed on both Vista and upgraded Windows 7.  I have used Premiere since Premier 5 (Full version not elements) including versions 6 and PRO.  I have Elements on my laptop for convenience.
2.)    Assets- Problem exists with all AVI files.  This includes files that worked previously but will no longer be recognized.  I have used Elements since version 7 was new.  It is only the last 4 months this has been and issue.  These are AVIs that previously working in Elements 7 from Panasonic DV camera and other DV sources.
3.)    Problem first appeared when Windows Update installed security patch KB975560.  Once the Security patch installed Premiere quit running AVIs.  When the patch was removed Premiere worked again. However, windows update continued to reload the patch.  The patch has now been removed and prevented from reloading.  However, the problem now persists.
4.)    Other attempted repairs.  Reloading Premiere Elements 7, Upgrading to Windows 7, Removing and reinstalling K-Lite Codec packs inc standard and 64bit.  Loading LEADTOOLS.  None has repaired the problem  All the AVI files playback fine in other programs including Windows Movie Maker, Media Player Classic, WM player etc.
I'm not sure what to do next.  I have been a dedicated Premiere user for so many years, I don't want to switch to another program.  Any suggestions friends?

    Welcome to the forum.
What version of Apple's QT Player do you have installed?
PrE relies on this much more than its big-brother, PrPro, until CS5.
From my experience, QT  7.5.5 was my "last known good," and some problems have been reported with the 7.6.2 and 7.6.3 versions. 7.6.6 is out, and works well for many Adobe users.
I would investigate updating QT Player.
Also, FFDShow, an element in K-Lite has been death to PrPro for many people. Just having it installed brings PrPro to its knees.
Though Adobe hides its CODEC's pretty well, K-Lite has been known to shift the priority of the Adobe MainConcept CODEC's. While it does not overwrite them, or delete them, it sets up some of its CODEC's to take priority. There are some older threads on Registry editing and utilities to reset the priority of the Adobe MainConcept CODEC's. Seems that Robert Johnson participated in those discussions and may have furnished the link to at least one utility.
Those are all the thoughts that I have now, and none might be of use.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - Robert has not been around here lately, but does spend time on the Muvipix Community forum. I'd post there in the PrE 7 forum, and ask if anyone has any ideas too.

  • "Type of file not supported" but previous timeline files OK

Simply put, I have projects that I can open up and they display and edit the MTS files from my Panasonic camera fine.  yet, I cannot add any new MTS files or even import ones that are already in the timeline without it saying to me "Type of file not supported".  It obviously supports them since my project before imported and I edited them without problem.
I just got done uninstalling and reinstalling the software.  But no help.
How can it see and use MTS files in my timeline yet cannot recognize any of the same files in the media folder?
I'm stuck with a useless Premiere Application.  $99 down the drain.
    Help!

    I found out the problem.
The MTS files can't be dragged into the timefrom from the media folder.
They can be dragged from the project folder.
That is the simple fact.  Even though it says it does not recognize the file type in the media area, if you import a file into the media area it also appears in the project area and you can go to the project area to drop the file into the timeline.
    Go figure...
I am editing away once again.  This is what happens when you don't use a program for a while.
    Oil well...

  • Raw files not supported

I have a new Canon T2i and can't seem to get the raw files to open in Elements 8. I have downloaded the 5.6 camera raw update and the DNG converter and both say camera raw files not supported......now what?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I  have also an EOS Rebel T2i since a few days and I experienced the same issue with Photoshop CS4.  What next? !!!!
It's likely the next version of Adobe Camera Raw will handle it;   Adobe updates ACR about every three or four months, and the most recent version was released in December:

  • Upgrade PSE 9 to LR  3.3 -- some files not supported

i just upgraded my PSE 9 catalog to LR 3.3. Upgrade seemed to go fine,  but afterward LR said it "added 20,000 photos but 11 were in a format  this is not supported."  Any idea how to figure out what photos (or  perhaps videos) those were?

sounds like a great idea, but i converted from PSE 9 and my understanding is that psedbtool doesn't work with it?
Oops, yes, that's correct. A couple of people have asked for the psedbtool source to see if they could make it work with PSE 9, but I haven't heard back their results.
    A couple more suggestions:
    - Use my Any File plugin to start importing all files from whatever root folder you keep your pics in -- browse to the root folder, click Choose Selected, and the list of all files under the chosen folder that aren't in the LR catalog will be displayed.  You can copy and paste that list.  (Don't click Import to complete the import.)
    http://www.johnrellis.com/lightroom/anyfile.htm
    - Add a dummy keyword to all the photos in your LR catalog, and do Metadata > Save Metadata To File. This will have the side effect of changing the date-modified of every file in your catalog. In a command prompt, type this command:
    dir /b /od /s /tw root-pictures-folder > allfiles.txt
This will list in "allfiles.txt" all files within your root pictures folder, in ascending order of date-modified -- the files not in the LR catalog will be at the top.
    - Use the LR/Transporter plugin to list all the files in your LR catalog.  Use the "dir" command above in a command prompt (without the /od switch) to list all the files in your root pictures folder.  Use Word, Excel, or a Unix/Linux "diff" command to find the files that are in one list but not the other.

  • Canon hf11 error file not supported in cs4

I have the Canon HF11.  I have tried to import avchd files via the media browser and get the error message:  files not supported.  I have upgraded to 4.01.  The files can import successfully into IMovie 09.  I originally had the trial version installed, but I have uninstalled it via the uninstaller, and have installed the retail version.  Could this be causing the problem?  If so, any solutions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Rhonda

I uninstalled cs4 and downloaded the cleanup script.  The program found the cs4 installation, but no files were listed to clean-up.  The right bottom box was grayed-out.

  • Getting an error "file not supported/necessary componant not installed

Any help on a error im getting, file not supported/necessary componant not installed

    Jesse,
From what you have described for Test 1, 2, and 3, I get the impression that you are OK with a new project, but that your are having problems with these saved projects.
At this point, I think it important for you to keep a log of the project details to avoid confusion.
    Test #3.
I am going to start with that Test 3 that was a new project, but almost successful (made it to about the 93% mark before transcoding error set in). I suspect that different factors are involved here than what brought you to the forum. Focus Step 12 in Test #3 where you said that you edited the movie line. How did you edit..added transitions, effects, titles, other? What was the length of the Timeline content? What DVD menu template did you use (how many main menu pages and how many scene menu pages)? When you went to Share/Disc/Disc and the burn dialog there, what did it say in the Quality Area of the burn dialog for Space Required and Bitrate? Also, at this time what did your computer show for available RAM and free hard drive space? Where were your scratch files (Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks) directed and did that drive have enough free space to meet the task?
    Test #1.
Your success with this new project was expected. It would be nice to know what kind of .avi that you used, but, whatever they were, they worked to give you your DVD-VIDEO. What was the length of the Timeline content. What DVD menu template did you use (how many main menu pages and how many scene menu pages)? And, I am correct in assuming that this was an independant project...different source media and edits than # 3?
    Test #2.
Here I believe is the true issue that brought you here.
When you say "Open existing project", it this the project from Test #1 which you closed and saved? Or, is it another existing project?
If you are not doing so now, please do Test #2 using the saved project prel from Test #1.
Now, I would like you to open Premiere Elements 4, in the Welcome Screen select the "Open Project" Folder, in the dialog that opens click on the Test #1.prel. The project should load, and you should find yourself in the program's Edit workspace. OK, so far? If so, what do you do next?
I was slow in typing again, so I hope that I am not out of sync with other messages between you and Hunt.
