Aspect Ratios - Can we go full screen?

All the TV shows I have are in an aspect ratio that do not play in full screen. I tried changing the aspect ratio on my TV but the problem lies with the the actual shows. Is there a way I can play them in fullscreen? (like I can with my DVD's for example, even if they are widescreen.) Please let me know if there is a way or if I am just stuck the way they are. Thank you!

Well, see the content does play "correctly" on the HDTV - things are in the correct aspect ratios, which is why I answered as I did above. HDTVs are the future market - analog is being phased out by law and eventually all TVs will need to be able to receive HD content. So I think that it's smart that Apple is building for future markets and not past markets.
As far as content goes in the iTunes store - I think that it's more a function of a balance between file size/download time vs. quality of image. The more recent downloads from the store are of a MUCH greater quality then the original TV show downloads, and the file sizes are proportionately bigger. But until we can make 1/2 GB file download in less than an hour over DSL, then we will have to continue to strike this balance.
In the long term, the bigger concern for me is that these files get HUGE and hard drive space is limited.
But going back to the original topic, content that is 16:9 on the iTunes store will download and be played as such. Content that is 4:3 will be portrayed correctly. I actually object to the idea of making a 4:3 image "stretched" to fit the 16:9 screen as well as "chopping" a 16:9 image to fit a 4:3; it's not how the director intended the product to be seen, and we should not try to override that artistic vision. • How can I have full screen while using yahoo or safari on my iPad air 2

How can I have full screen on my iPad air 2 with out having bookmarks as part of the screen

Try quitting Safari like I describe, then reset the iPad. Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
I would also suggest that you check to make sure that you have enough free space on your iPad for it to run efficiently. With iOS 8 it is recommended that you have 15-20% of the storage space on the device free.  For a 16 GB device that is 2.4-3.2 GB free. For a 32 GB device that is 4.8-6.4 GB free. For a 64 GB device that is 9.6-12.8 GB free.

  • How do I get SD video (4:3 aspect ratio) to fill the entire screen?

Any 4:3 video I stream has black bars on either side of the picture. I have a Samsung HDTV, and I can stream content using its own pc to tv streaming software and 4:3 videos fill the entire screen. Or if I play a DVD with 4:3 aspect ratio that will also automatically fill the screen. With the Apple TV I cannot make it fill the entire screen. Is this something to do with the signal being transmitted over an HDMI cable?
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how have you resolved it?

I know it is displaying 4:3 video correctly, however I'd prefer if there was some stretching (non-linear) so that it fills the entire screen. Having 2 big black bars on either side gets very annoying. There doesnt seem to be an option to fill the entire screen when streaming from the apple tv. There are options when streaming from Samsung's own software (I don't want to use samsungs pc share manager as the apple tv's user interface is much better).
Are my options restricted because the signal is transmitted through an hdmi cable? Seems to be what other websites might be suggesting.

  • Can't get full screen in QT 7 Pro

I cannot get true full screen in QT 7 Pro in Panther on my 15" PB. I select full screen and select present movie but still get top menu (and dock but I can hide that). Full screen is selected in preferences too.
    Any ideas.
ETA - Okay now I see I just can't get rid of the menu bar when I have my projector hooked up to the PB. What's up with that?

Most movies are 4:3 aspect and your Powerbook screen is not.
Try Command-3 (while in full screen mode) when the file is opened as it will maximize to your screen height.

  • Can't Get Full Screen Album Artwork On My Computer Anymore When Playing Itunes

It worked until recently, then all of a sudden the full screen option was greyed out. Oddly enough, sometimes full screen comes up arbitrarily right after a video plays and it switches back to music but then disappears again if I close Itunes and then re-open it. Why did this disappear and can I get it back?

    - Try triple clicking the home button and unlocking the iPod and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there.
    - Last, pace the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • Can't get full screen images on Flash 10.1 - just white screen

Hi - not sure if anyone can help.  I watch Create & Craft via my computer.  When you go on site there is a small video box playing the programme with an arrow and "view full screen" in the corner.  Normally I just click this arrow and it changed to full screen.  However, since downloading 10.1 all I get now when I click on the arrow is a totally white screen - it's really frustrating and any help would be appreciated.

Hi, try turning off the hardware acceleration feature. You can go to youtube and right click on a video and bring up Display Setting and Uncheck it.
It is also recommended to update the graphic and video drivers to the latest versions.
    See if that helps.
    Thanks,

  • I can't exit full screen mode and there are no navigation areas like I used to have.

I just loaded Foxfire 4.0. I tried out full screen mode and cannot get back to the original mode. Even more annoying is that there doesn't seem to be any way to open new tabs or show the items that I used to keep at the top of my start screen. It's annoying enough to have to learn a new version without having to start from scratch as it were. Why can't new versions let you keep some of the old familiar places from before??? I'm seriously considering trying to go back to my old version. HELP ME!!

You could go back to the old version but it is relatively easy to make firefox 4 look and behave more like firefox 3.6, although there could be disadvantages in doing that. see [[Installing a previous version of Firefox]]
Keyboard key '''F11 should toggle full screen on or off''' as before
Touching the top edge of the screen with the mouse pointer should also display toolbars.
The menubar and bookmarks toolbar do not display by default in firefox 4, if you are not using a Mac it will display the firefox button. Alt or f10 will temporarilly display the menubar toolbar, even if the firefox button is displayed, from the option
    * '''View -> toolbars -> [x] menu bar [x]bookmarks toolbar'''
you may set the bars to display permenantly if you wish.
Another change is the''' tabs on top''' again settable from the view menu or the firefox button. see [[why are tabs on top]]

  • Can't get full screen view

I can't view my photos in full screen when editing. I see the thumbnails, but when I double-click all I get is a blank screen (black screen in full screen mode). What's up? I haven't installed or upgraded to anything recently. I did try to go through the Preferences tab, but still haven't figured out the problem. Anyone else having this issue? I am able to view a larger view by moving the slider, but still can't edit. Help

I have the same problem, only difference is that I do not get a black screen in full view but white where the picture ought to be. This is the case from the beginning of the upgrade to version '09 (8.x), currently 8.0.3, and so far no one has offered any intelligence about this. ... very odd.

  • QuickTime screen recording can't record full screen

I wanted to use quicktime's screen record function to record gta San Andreas, which I bought off the App Store. I hit the record button and clicked so that it would record the whole screen. I then opened up San Andreas, which takes up the whole screen. When I watched the recording back, I saw that it had recorded the screen but had for some reason shoved the recording in the top left hand corner instead of it covering the whole screen like it should. The area around it was all pixilated lines.
I'll try to record again and with other games in case it's a glitch (in which case I'll let you know) because I haven't seen anyone else with this problem, but if it's not a glitch and there's a solution I'd love to hear about it! Many thanks.

Just as an update, steam games and applications that can go full screen like safari both work fine, I've tried gta again and it still has the problem.

  • How can I activate full screen photo viewing on Facebook with Firefox as the browser?

I recently was made aware that Firefox, along with Chrome, supports full screen viewing of photos on Facebook. It worked great on Chrome up until about three days ago, and now all images I try to look at in Full Screen mode are made so huge, I have to scroll to see the whole thing, or use the CTRL + - three times to make it fit, and then everything else after I'm done looking at the photo is so small I have to use CTRL + + to get things big enough to view. But that very well could be a Chrome problem. My question for this forum is why the Full Screen Viewing option is not available on my Firefox browser, which has been recently updated to the most current version available? Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the reply cor-el, but I don't think you understood the question. No matter, because now the full screen viewing of photos in Facebook is now working while using Firefox. Still doesn't work with Chrome like it did and should, so now I will be using Firefox instead. :)

  • Can't get full screen view- how do I expand the browser window to full screen

A portion of the available screen is used to display open tabs. I want the browser to fill the whole view screen. Is there a way to do this? I am running Firefox on an android tablet.

You should be able to "swipe" the tabs list away. Press with your finger near the line that separates the tab list from the webpage, and drag to the left.

Right click in your desktop and select Properties>>Settings.
