ASPECTHD - Low compression to High compression

This is more a Cineform question, but since they'Re so many CF users in here and it concerns Premiere workflow I guess it has it's place on this forum.
When digitizing tapes with AspectHD, if I go with Low compression to save HD space to later just have what I've used transcoded to High compression, will it give me same quality as if I'd go directly to High compression from tape.
Thank you.

I am by no means an expert on audio conversion, but as I understand it the sound quality of an audio file will be reduced when converting it from one lossy format to another, especially when trying to go from a smaller size/ lower bitrate to a larger size/ higher bitrate.
(paraphrased from Andrew Davidson's Transcoding MP3 Files - Notes & Hints)
When transcoding, the MP3 must be decompressed (if only temporarily) to a decoded format (e.g. raw PCM) before re-encoding. Because of quality concerns, transcoding is not recommended…Transcoding upwards offers no quality benefit whatsoever, and results in a bigger file, so most of the time it is completely pointless. There is no point to transcoding upward (e.g. from 128Kbps to 256Kbps) except in the extremely unusual situation of a hardware player not supporting certain bitrates.
For much more info about your question, google "convert MP3 to AAC quality loss -download" and "convert audio file smaller to larger quality loss -download" (the -download filters out most of the "download our great conversion software" hits).

  • Low Res to High Res Help!!!

I need some advise. I have still jpegs and tiffs that I need to convert up from a low resolution, without pixelating the picture (Low resolution to High Resolution. I own Adobe CS3(the suite)which include Photoshop. If photoshop is not the answer, please let me know what is. If photoshop is the answer, I can't seem to get the right tool within. Is it even possible? Simply changing the property of the image will make it larger, but very distorted/pixelated.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Youtube's specs can be obtained form the technical advice section of their site. I believe it's MPEG4, which is H.264. But you must not confuse the term resolution with image quality. Whatever you upload to to YT gets transcoded by their system before it gets mounted. There are hundreds of sites devoted to getting the best image up on YT, google is your buddy on that one. there are several places in the workflow where you can attempt to maintain image quality. it's tricky, depends on your content. encoding is all about maximizing image quality at various points. Action requires a higher bitrate that can be stolen from scenes that have little detail.
It's really hard to get good encoded video, especially up on YT.

How do I connect and detect a high frquency pulse (0-3500hz) with a variable pulse voltage (0v low,5-10v high),  on a SC-2345 connected to a PCI-6224?  Labview doesn't generate a waveform if I try to graph the signal, and my analog input doesn'y recognize that the signal is even pulsing, only that it has a voltage.  Some advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Garrett

    Hi Garrett,
It sounds like you want to do Frequency Measurements of a signal that is somewhat digital.
There are two ways you can really do this:
Wire your signal to the counter input and use the Digital Frequency examples (Help > Find Examples > Browse > Hardware Input and Output > DAQmx > Counter Measurements > Digital Frequency)
Continue taking analog measurements and use some sort of logic to determine where you are getting rising and falling edges.
I would recommend doing method #1, but you must determine which one is the best for your system.
If you want to connect to the counter pins then you will find the
terminals located on the side of your SC-2345.  If you don't need
to condition your signals then simply wire everything into the proper
    pins for your counter (below).

  • Low priority and high priority queue

    Hi
we have high priority and low priority queue's. Functionality wise i know that time critical messages will be sent through high priority queue's and low priority messages will be sent
through low priority queues. But like to know what technicality makes this separation of
low priority and high priority queue's ? The crus of the question is what technical setting(s)
makes the queue as high priority and what technical setting(s) makes the queue as low priority
    queue.
    Thanks
    kumar

    i Michal
I am talking abt queue prioritization on Integration eninge only.
I am good with queue prioritization and am able to successfully implement
the same. We are using only PI7.0.
My question is what is the technical difference between high priority
and low priority queues ? what technical setting makes it a high priority
queue and what technical setting makes a low priority queue ?
    Your answer:
how the system reacts to new messages if almost all queues are already blocked
    for some types of messages
My comment: what setting makes the system to behave like that ? what property
of that queue makes them to behave like that ?
    Thanks

Here's the story, I uploaded a video last friday (april25,2014) and I have to choose what quality the video should be, and I chose the low quality (for low space *new on iphone*)  but, i think I was wrong on choosing the low quality over high quality. I watched the video from my Camera Roll and it's on high quality, but on facebook it was a low quality video. Now, does anyone could help me to change it to high quality from low quality? • Lower Compression Rates & Dropped Frames

Frames keep on droppin' and FCE keeps telling me to lower the compression rate (among other things I've already taken care of, so I'm guessing this is the problem). But 1) I have no idea where to do this and 2) I have no idea what to change the rate to.

How do I do what? Copy the material onto another drive? You need another drive. Select all the material on the drive. Drag it to the other drive. To erase and reformat the drive you use Disk Utility. It's on your system hard drive. The first panel will have a tab for erasing.

  • How to make PCM file that is 8 Bit A-low compressed Mono 8kHz?

Hi folks! I desperately need help. I use Audition 3.0 and i need to make file that must meet next requirements:
    Format: PCM
    Bit Rate: 8 Bit
    Channels: 1 (Mono)
    Channels: 8kHz
Sample Size: 8 Bit Alow compressed
I tried to do it my way but it seems to be something wrong there. Maybe the requirements r not clear or maybe i don't understand them the right way. Please tell me how would u do it??????

I think most of us are a bit confused by your requirement and description.
All I can think of is that you mean "A-law" encoding (otherwise known as G.711 A-law) which is a coding algorithm fairly commonly used in telephony.
If that's it, try the "A/mu-law .wav" option up near the top of the list of files types on the Save As menu.
(A-law and mu-law are different variants of basically the same algorithm.)

  • Converting Low MP3 to High AAC

Does anyone know if there would be sound quality loss if I took a 128kbps MP3 Sound File and used iTunes "Convert Selection to..." to convert it to a 320kbps AAC.
I get a bit confused becuase I am recompressing an already compressed file but it is suppose to be a better method of compression. Does it uncompress first like a JPG? CAN it be uncompressed first and then recompressed?

  • Error while transporting function grp from lower version to higher version

    Dear Experts,
While transporting the function group and function modules from system A to system B, I am getting the below error
"Program SAPLZATSCSNG_EINB, Include LEINBF10: Syntax error in line 000068
Field 'GF_ETS_MODIFIED' is unknown. It is neitherin one of the specified tables nor defined by a 'D"
System A is a lower version SAP system and system B is a higher version. I compared the code of Include LEINBF10 in both the systems and there is a data declaration of field GF_ETS_MODIFIED in system B. But this is missing in system A.
Please guide me for this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thankyou for your reply Rob.
Actually I am transporting the function group and modules from my development system to the client development system.
I dont have any other option but transport the files.
Is there any possibility to modify the include without applying a patch or upgrading my system?

  • Swapping low res for high res footage in iMovie 11?

I have been using iMovie HD and 11 for a while now and somehow I missed the whole "convert your footage before you edit" train. I have edited several videos, all of which I was importing and editing the GoPro footage without converting it to Apple Prores like I learned I should be doing. So, obviously, I have learned the error of my ways and I am now converting all my footage prior to editing.
Is there any way to save all my old videos? Is there a way to do a one to one swap of all the footage? I vaguely remember reading on a forum that someone was editing in a compressed format and then prior to exporting somehow swapping all the footage to save time on the front end and to spare his computer and iMovie the trouble of using those huge files.
Is this ringing a bell with anyone?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers

To my knowledge, imovie 6 will not do this.
iMovie 11 will allow you to select an h.264 file (or Event) and optimize it to Apple Intermediate Codec. If you do it this way, your project will be intact, and your h.264 clips will go to the Movies/iMovie Original Movies folder.
iMovie 11 will only be able to use ProRes 422 if you have Final Cut Pro installed on the same Mac. iMovie will not automatically optimize to ProRes 422.
Final Cut Pro will allow a lot of flexibility in swapping media. You can edit in Pro Res Lite and then switch to Full Pro Res when you are ready to make the final movie, for example.

  • Edit Low-Res, Export High-Res

Is there a way to edit with low-resolution video files (for quicker rendering times) and when the project is finished, final cut can access the corresponding high-res files for output?
Gopro automatically creates .mp4 files and .lrv files after a shoot.  The .mp4 files are 1080p and my computer has trouble even wathcing them.  The .lrv files (stands for low-resolution video) are like 480p and would be awesome to edit with, as long as final cut could keep track of all the snips and affects and apply them to the corresponding high-resolution .mp4 files.
anyone ever heard of or done anything like this? seems like it would help a lot.

interesting.. multipe drives, i didnt even know FCP kept such good track of all your drives!
I'm no good in 'details', but like to explain 'concepts':
when you cut a video, you don't literally splice a 100MB file into two 50MBs ones
think of FCPX basicly as a data-base: there's a pool of data (Events); there are lists of instructions (Projects) - the lists don't touch the content. Same concept with Proxies: the Preview window is so tiny - why shoveling the GBs back'n forth, if a 'reduced' version is on display anyhow? No need to edit 'natively': the 'edit list' = Project has to use the originals only on export.-
so, FCPX handles here <counting> six drives. And I'm just a soccer-dad, doin' weekend reports (ok, using 5 cams, all diff. standards - shoestring budget) - no problem. It's me who needs EventManagerX not to get lost with all this games and players and seasons and stuff
vice versa: one of the biggest mistakes is to confuse this data-base by moving files 'behind its back' - soooo many reports 'Events lost!', just because some smart moved data OUTside FCPX via Finder - no wonder, the data-base loses track!
last word about the concept of data base: that's why 'file names' and manual folders are completely waste of time - tags are much better, add as many key-words and meta-data you like - and let the data base find the clips for you (a computer is much faster in search'n find).-
    LeRoyDankins wrote:
… i'll have to try that out for myself...
It works surprisingly well! I was a huge fan of iMovie for years, and when switching to the Big Toy, my first concern was 'will it blend compute?' No budget here for a new Mac - and it does perform well. Very well. For a slow guy like me ..........

  • Low-Level or High-Level for GUI ?

I am developing a MIDLet that has to run CLDC-1.1 MIDP-2.0 Devices. The MIDLet has a simple user interface, and there is no gaming. I developed the MIDLet using the high-level GUI class, but I discovered that this class is nice, yet limited. Now I am investigating using the low level canvas class for the GUI. Is it possible to maintain cross-platform compatibility with the canvas, or should I stick with the high-level class?

    High Level Group
    Classes provided are
Perfect for development of MIDlets that target the maximum number of devices
Heavily abstracted to provide minimal control over their look and feel
Classes do not provide exact control over their display
    Low Level Group
    Classes provided are
Perfect for MIDlets where we want precise control over the location and display of the UI elements
If more control there is comes less portability It may not be deployable on certain devices

  • Converting from low-res to high-res

I have read that there are ways to convert low res files to higher res upon export with Lightroom (perhaps via interpolation).  Can anyone tell me how to accomplish this?   Thanks!

When you're exporting, set the size in the export window.  LR will up or down size as needed to make the final image that size.

  • Low prices vs High performances: How come ?!!!

    Hi there,
I'm really considering between the PB G4 12" and new MB.
Actually, I love the PB-12" design, it's gorgeous and
especially, it's mature. I have seen from the Mac's products
that, like a nature, they need some interval to get improved,
    less buggy.
But, when the MB comes around, I was surprised about the way
they can cook this stuff ... higher performances at lower
prices (compared to the PB or iBook) ??
I've been thinking about this from time to time and would
like to share if someone could figure this out
    So, like usual,
    W h a t do you think ???
