ASR 9001 console cable

Does the asr 9001 ship with a console cable ? The normal console cable does not seems to work ( used 115200 8N1 and No Flow).
Did any one have difficulties connecting the asr 9001 for the first time ?

I used an ordinary, blue DB9-to-RJ45, Cisco console cable (I believe it's called rollover cable) that I use for all Cisco devices that I need console access to (and not only those - same cables work for Sun servers as well).
I can't remember if the ASR was packed with its own console cable, but even if it was, I didn't use it.

  • Console cable to USB adapter

Can anyone recommend a USB adapter to use with a console cable?

    As posted on https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/46991
a native USB to Cisco RJ45 Console cable - $15 and available from http://www.get-console.com/shop/en/18-usb-to-serial-cables - native driver support for OSX, Win 7. It even is light blue flat ribbon cable as well to stop any confusion as to what it is.
So instead of carrying round a USB to DB9 serial cable that you constantly have to convert to RJ45 to connect to Cisco console ports you can instead carry round a USB to RJ45 serial cable that you can convert to DB9 with a $4 adaptor if you need to work on non-Cisco stuff.
Yes a shameless plug, but as a field engineer myself i know that no laptops come with RS232 ports anymore. and the USB-to-DB9-Serial-to-Cisco-DB9-to-RJ45 cable combo is somewhat convoluted.

  • WLC4402 Console Cable

    Hi.
We have one customer who have deployed a unified wireless solution using WLC4402. They implemented high security that they have disabled telnet, http & https connectivity to the WLC. Now, configuration changes needs to be done on the WLC but unfortunately they have lost the provided console cable. Is there other ways to connect to the WLC?
If the console is a must, would someone know the console cable pin-outs for the WLC?

Haha, well, that's no doubt the lesson that will come from this.
The serial cables didn't work? I really question whether this device is working. Did you lock the console too? If not, that should work fine. Make sure your settings are correct - 9600 baud, etc...
The service port won't work with HTTP and HTTPS disabled.
Finally, you won't be able to ping the WLC's AP Manager interface, but that's not usually the interface that shows up in CDP. Maybe it's possible that the WLC is bad? Does the wireless still work? As best you can tell, are the APs still associated to the controller?
Next step is to open a Cisco TAC case and ask them if it's possible to reset to factory defaults some other way...

  • 2602 AP PoE comes up only after console cable is disconneted

    HI...
We have been struggling with PoE issues for sometime until we accidently came across what seems to be the problem. The equipment we are using are,
    Cisco WLC 5508 (w/HA WLC) ver 7.4.100.0
    Cisco AP 2602
    Cisco 4507 w/Poe module, 3560 24 port Poe, 3560CG 8port Poe
Now we noticed that if an access point is connected to a console cable then poe is connected via any of the above switches, the AP will not power up until the console cable is disconnected. We have tried this on 5 different 2602 APs  and tested on all the three switches.
I wonder wether this is a known issue or bug, or if anybody might have come across such behaviour.
    All Help Is Appreciated
    Thanks

I've got one case where I plugged the PoE and the AP won't work.  A close inspection shows the STICKER was incorrect.  Instead of plugging to the right-hand port, the sticker was put on upside down and telling me to connect the PoE to the left-hand port.
Another reason could be faulty cable.  What is the output to the command "sh power inline"?

  • Is there any alternative to console cable for pix 501 firewall?

I need help on CISCO PIX 501 Firewall, it comes with console cable having serial port, but systems now a days & the one i am having are not having serial port so i am not able to access command-in-line , is there any alternative way, can it be accessed using ethernet or lan wire, if so please provide steps, waiting for your valueable responses, ...

    Hi,
Have you considered getting an USB adapter for the Console cable?
I had to get that for my first work laptop since they happened to order a model without the serial port. For the most part it worked just fine.
I guess depending on your PIX configurations you might be able to boot it up and attach a PC directly to it and manage it.

  • Need to purchase a console cable for a SRW248G4

I have a client with a SRW248G4 installed.  We cannot determine the IP address assigned to the switch and we need to configure the ports.  The client cannot find the console cable that came with the unit and I have been unsuccessful in finding where I can buy one.  Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks!  I called Ciso tech support and I asked where I could get a cable, if it was proprietary, etc.  His response was for him to help me, I would have to send the ENTIRE switch to them as an RMA and they would send me out a new switch that had the cable included.  I found one at Newegg, now that I know it uses a standard cable.

  • Switch traffic stopped until console cable plugged in.

    Hi All,
I'm working on an odd problem investigation with one of our switches at a remote site. Two days ago an alert was fired for Gigabit Ethernet/0/3 reporting a status as down for over 2 minutes. An engineer was sent to site and confirmed that the device had power but there was no activity on the ports connecting two of the clients buildings. The engineer attempted a reset of the SFP and fibre port which did not resolve the issue, and also connected the fibre cable to another port to confirm there were no issues with the cable. The engineer then attempted to connect a console cable to the switch and the fibre port came back up of its own accord. The switch was also rebooted to confirm it was working as expected.
I'm in a junior role here but i've no idea why the switch would have issues until a console cable was attached.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)
    Gareth.

I've had this issue since I had to reinstall windows 7.  The best solution I found was creating a shotcut for PSOFF on the desktop or somewhere and setting it to run on startup.  I keep my shortcut on the desktop because if the computer ever dies and enters windows backup, when you turn your computer back on it will not automatically start psoff again. If that ever happens I just click the shortcut

  • Console cable for SRW2048

I have lost the original console cable to the Cisco Linksys SRW2048 and was wondering if I can use the Cisco console cable or can a regular serial cable with female ends will work?
    Thanks,
    Stanley

    Hello Stanley,
A cisco console cable probably won't work since they usually have RJ-45 on one end.  However, a regular serial cable should work just fine, as long as your computer has one as well, or you have a USB to serial adapter.
The settings for the console port are as follows:
    Bits per second: 38,400
    Data bits: 8
    Parity: None
    Stop bits: 1
    Flow control: None
Once you open the connection you'll have to hit enter once to make anything display.
You can also acces the console of this switch through telnet, by connecting to the switches IP with a telnet client and use admin as the username with a blank password.
I got most of this info from the admin guide, which is available here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/csbms/srw2048/administration/guide/SRW-US_v10_UG_A-Web.pdf
Let me know if that works,

  • Asr-9001-s upgrade license - SFP+2 and SFP+3 ?

I cannot seem to find a part number for a license upgrade to enable the addtional 2 10Gig sfp's on an asr-9001-s.
Does anyone have that information with the cost associated with it?

    Hello,
If you upload the new IOS XE image change the boot statement in the config to the new image, then reboot, this should not have any change to how the ASR was operating before. (do read the release notes though in case)
If you already have the Advanced IP services license installed, you will not need another one. This stays with the ASR even when you change the IOS XE image on your ASR. I think actually the show ver will show the license information too.
show license all - this command will show you detailed information about license on your ASR
    conf t
license boot level advipservices - this will ensure your next boot uses this feature set.

  • Prime Network and ASR 9001

I have Prime Network 4.0 and ASR 9001 with A9K-MPA-20x1GE and IOS XR 5.1.0. Prime connects to ASR9k with Telnet, SNMP and XML, status says reachable, operational. Updated prime to latest PrimeNetwork-4.0-DP1308.
Still, Prime can not see any physical interfaces except MgmtEth (no on-board 4x10G, no 20x1G). Basically, nothing in Slot0.
Can not see any VRFs and BNG functionality configured in VRF.
Only single static route in routing table (does not show connected routes in global routing table)
    What can it be?
Is it me not configuring something, or Prime Network should not be seeing this things?
    George

I assume you are asking about Cisco Prime LAN Management System (LMS) vs. Cisco Prime Infrastructure (PI).
LMS is currently the leading Cisco offering for wired infrastructure management. It is the evolution of the earlier CiscoWorks LMS, CiscoWorks RWAN CiscoWorks 2000, CWSI, VLAN Director, original CiscoWorks classic etc. products going back almost 20 years.
PI is the equivalent Cisco offering for wireless LANs and is the successor to NCS and WCS products.
The overlap and confusion comes from the fact the Cisco is positioning PI as the overall wireless and wired management platform and gradually introducing wired network management features to make it equal (and eventually exceed) LMS's capabilities.
There is a comparison table here that shows the current differences. A major new release of PI (2.0) is due out shortly which will close many (but not all) of the gaps on that table.

  • ASR 1006 vs ASR 9001

    Hi All:
I would appreciate if someone can share their lifetime experience and suggest me to finalize the right product between ASR 1006 or ASR 9001.
    Requirements:
    - We need full internet feed with IPv4 and IPv6.
    -10 G & STM-16 interfaces for connectivity.
    - 10 Gbps traffic need to be handled by the box.
    - MPLS L3/L2 VPN's
I personally after going through IOS-XR feature, prefer this.
Need some expert thoughts in the light of real world experience.
    Regards,

    Hi Sayed,
ASR 9001 does not support STM-16 interfaces. It is purely 1 GE/10 GE platform.
If you are looking for an XR platform that supports STM-16 interfaces, you need to go with the 9006 (or 9904) , RSP-440, SIP-700 and POS SPA (for STM) and Typhoon 10GE linecard. (with Trident you might face an issue for the number of learned prefixes depending on the scale profile you choose: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/routers/asr-9000-series-aggregation-services-routers/116999-problem-line-card-00.html)
If you decide to go with the ASR 1006, make sure you choose dual RP2 ( with 16GB mem), ESP-100 (or ESP-200) and SIP40. This should eliminate the TCAM exhaustion issue, if you decide to do NAT and ACL.; and guarantee and route-scale that might occur. (for the ASR 1000, I would recommend upgrading all of the memories)

    Michel.
