Assertion error with -g: abi2_mangler::entity_expression

this happens with both WS6U2 (patched with latest patches) and Forte7EA (latest version)
yet another assertion error when debugging is enabled (-g):
$ /space/opt/SUNWspro/bin/CC -g -c sparcv9/ultrasan/main.cc -o sparcv9/ultrasan/main.o
>> Assertion: unhandled expression in abi2_mangler::entity_expression (../lnk/v2mangler.cc, line 1565)
while processing sparcv9/ultrasan/main.cc at line 0.
$
it compiles okay without warnings when "-g" is removed.

i am using Forte 7: CC: Forte Developer 7 C++ 5.4 Patch 111715-05 2003/02/09
on Solaris 9: uname -rvpmi gives "5.9 Generic sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-1000"
with this code snippet, saved as forte_template_expressions.cc:
template < int log2_line_size >
struct IntTemplate {
template < int log2_line_size >
struct IntTemplateArith {
typedef IntTemplate < log2_line_size + 1 > IT ;
IT * it ;
IntTemplateArith (IT * it_) : it(it_) { }
void spam(IntTemplate<6> * it) {
IntTemplateArith<5> tmp(it);
//ends
$ CC forte_template_expressions.cc -c
$ CC forte_template_expressions.cc -c -g
>> Assertion: unhandled expression in abi2_mangler::entity_expression (../lnk/v2mangler.cc, line 1574)
while processing forte_template_expressions.cc at line 0.
$
i note that the readme mentions template expressions as buggy:
o Expressions involving non-type template parameters in
the function parameter list for function templates, such
as
template<int I> void foo(mytype<2*I> ) { ... }
but this is not a function template, and anyway it works without debugging enabled.

  • Assertion error with Workshop C++ compiler 5.0 on Solaris 8

    Hi,
    I am using C++ compiler version 5.0 with the latest patch 107311-16. The version info for the compiler gives:
    CC: WorkShop Compilers 5.0 01/12/04 C++ 5.0 Patch 107311-16
    Patch 107357-11 is also installed. But I get the following error:
    Assertion: (../links/ftemplate.cc, line 435)while processing ../../services/idl/impl/IResourceTypeImpl.cpp at line 18.
    There seems to be a patch(109490) for this type of error(Problem id: 4346450) for Forte 6 compiler. But is there one for Workshop 5.0?
    Solaris Kernal version is: SunOS 5.8 Generic 108528-05 November 2000
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks for your patience,

    Thanks for the reply. The entire compile command is below:

    We are using "object space" libraries and corba from iona technologies. I just finished porting our huge codebase from 4.2 to 5.0 but for this last problem of "Assertion error". Object space seems to support Workshop 5.0 with classic iostream libraries. Hence moving to FD6 or FD7 would mean that we wouldn't have support from "object space".

  • Visual c++ assertion error with Adobe Digital Editions 2.00

    My computer has windows 7. I have a Laser EB850 e-reader and have susccessfully installed and used ADE to borrow books from my library and then copy them over to my e-reader which has worked successfully.  Suddenly I find that when I try to connect my e-reader via USB to my computer I get a Visual C++ assertion error and am unable to access my e-reader through ADE. Why has this all of a sudden happened and how can I fix it

    Unfortunately, ADE2.0 is full of bugs.
    You may be able to get round this one by uninstalling ADE2.0, and then reinstalling it.
    (Check the Vista installation information at http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/installing-digital-editions-20-windows.html)
    Failing that, try installing instead the older but more reliable ADE1.7.2.
    Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
    The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
    ~~~
    In either case, it is quite likely that ADE will get its registration confused and half there.
    In that case
    remove any corrupted registration by ctrl-shift-D (cmd-shift-D on Mac)
    restart ADE
    redo your registration (menu/Help/Authorize Computer on ADE2.0, menu/Library/Authorize Computer on ADE1.7.2)
  • Labview RT 14.0 Scheduler Assert%3A __1276 Scheduler Assertion Error%3A 80000004
    We have a multithreaded CVI app (~20 threads) running on a PXIe-8135 (4 CPUs).   The application never gets done starting all the threads before blue-screening with the following error:
    Scheduler Asser: __1276
    Scheduler Assertion Error: 80000004
    Interrupt Disabled. Scheduler Enabled.  ....
    More details:
    System
    Chassis 1 PXIe-1085:
        PXIe-8135 Controller
        PXI-6704 (7 of them), initialize properly, thread runs successfully until blue screen
        PXI-8431/8 (8 of these, total of 64 RS422 channels, about 40 being used currently for test), it is during the starting of these threads (one for each board) that it blue screens
        PXIe-8374 (for using Chassis 2 as an extension of Chassis 1)
    Chassis 2 PXIe-1075:
        PXI-8370 (connected to PXIe-8374)
        PXI-6528 (1) threads run fine
        PXI-6529 (4) threads run fine
        NI-8234 (4) not used currently
    The scheduler error happens at different times, but always during the starting of the RS422 threads.  Can anybody give a hint as to why the Scheduler Assertion Error occurs, and particularly this specific error?
    Hi,
    I have a couple of questions for you.
    1) Has this application ever worked?
    2) Can you attempt to replicate this issue with less RS422 channels? Basically, is there a maximum number of RS422 channels where the error is received, or if you had only 1 channel being used, would the error still happen?
    3) Do you have another PXIe controller that you can try?
    4) Did anything change in your system that would have caused the error?
  • Assert error in __memp_fget under OS X/Linux using TXN_SNAPSHOT
    Hi all,
    Hopefully this is a good place to file a bug report. I've been hunting down the cause of a core dump for a couple of weeks and have finally reduced it to a [small example|http://home.comcast.net/~jonathanmeredith/bugrpt.tar.gz] (I couldn't find a way to attach it to the message).
    README from the tarball:
    The code sample enclosed causes BDB to die with an assertion error. This is the minimal
    code that causes the bug, stripped down from an Erlang port driver. It may look strange
    and ugly, but it only exists to reproduce the bug.
    To reproduce expand the tarball into a directory containing the BDB tarball and run make.
    It will compile the library and test code then start looping through the test code. The
    assertion usually occurs anywhere between 1 and 50 iterations through the test code.
    The bug occurs under Mac OS X 10.5.7 (9J61) running on an 8 core [email protected] mac pro,
    8Gb RAM, compiled with i686-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.2.1 and under Debianl Lenny on
    4 core Xeon 5160 @ 3.00GHz, 8Gb RAM, libc 2.7-18, gcc (Debian 4.3.2-1.1) 4.3.2.
    Expected output:
    assert failure: ../dist/../mp/mp_fget.c/257: "bhp != NULL"
    12 libSystem.B.dylib 0x91e37012 thread_start + 34
    ./loopbug: line 20: 52562 Abort trap ../bugrpt
    Removing the TXN_SNAPSHOT options makes the bug go away. So does changing the size of the 'put' value.
    Reducing the number of the THREADS #define increases the number of iterations required to hit the assert.
    On the 4-core Debian box it took 377 reps with THREADS=2
    Hi Jon,
    Thanks for a great test case, this made our job a little easier! If you could please send me an email to: michael dot brey at oracle dot com, I will respond to you with a patch of this issue for 4.7.
    This turned out to be our fault - we were told that the servers are running
    sp11 but when we later checked using the admin tool, we found that wasn't
    the case on this machine. sp11 was in the classpath but the directory was
    wrong. I guess that's the downside to the way WL SPs work, the jvm doesn't
    tell you when you have an invalid filename in the classpath so you don't
    know that you are not actually running with the sp.
    On the thread issue you mention, the traceback below originates in a startup
    class which does manage its own threads. Isn't this a valid way to invoke
    beans in weblogic?
    It's hard to say why you're seeing this assertion error. I would
    suggest that you contact [email protected]
    However, I can see that you are using your own threads within the
    WebLogic server. This is not allowed and might be the cause of your
    problems.
  • Rhsnippet.apj Error with RoboHTML 11 Project on Network
    I have an RH 11 project on a network drive. The project has 485 snippets. When adding or modifying snippets I get the following error:
    An error occurred while trying to read data from <n:\roboHelp Projects\\rhsnippet.apj <1>.
    When I open the rhsnippet.apj file, the file is truncated like this:
    <file>
                <name>mysnippet.hts</name>
                <comments></comments
    It seems that RoboHelp cannot complete writing to the APJ file.
    After closing and reopening the project, I then get a message saying the cpd is corrupt. After deleting the cpd and reopening the project, I still get a message saying the project is corrupt.
    The only way I have found to fix the project is to move the project back to a local drive, delete the cpd, delete the rhsnippet.apj file and re-import all the snippets.
    I have seen a similar issue which was resolved by moving to another network drive. I moved my project to another network drive but the issue still occurred.
    rhsnippet.apj Error with RoboHTML 10 Project on Network
    My experience with R10 R11 projects on a network drive has been problematic, despite Adobes assertion that R11 and R10 projects now work on network drives. For example, Adobe support confirmed that RoboHelp does not support projects on a network drive that uses DFS (Distributed File System). I have found that large projects seem to be problematic on network drives.
    I suspect that part of this issue is the large amount of snippets I have, as other projects on the network drive don't appear to have this issue as they do not contain a large amount of snippets.
    If anybody else has experienced a similar issue with projects on a network drive related to snippets I'd be grateful for some advice.
    Thanks for the advice Peter, but deleting the CPD does not fix the issue. I have 500 snippets because I have 500 fields (and growing all the time) to document that can appear in multiple reports and also require that each field is documented separately. So although I seem to be pushing the envelope with the amount of snippets, I am grateful for the existence of snippets because trying to document this without snippets would be a nightmare!
    One thing that annoys me is that you cannot apply a style sheet to multiple snippets at the same time. At least I have not found a way. Is there a way of doing this – short of editing the HTML for each snippet individually? I will add this to a feature request for RoboHelp as well as log a bug report with Adobe.
  • IDCS2, WIN: Assert error reason
    Hi Guys,
    I got a assert error, "~InstanceList(): 3 outstanding references to UID 172 (Class kTextStoryBoss).", I don't know the reason, do you guys know that?
    Thanks,
    The number of AddRef() and Release() on that object does not match. This is usually found while closing your document database.<br /><br />Search your code for:<br /><br />IFace1* p = ... Query ... ()<br />InterfacePtr<IFace2> p2 ( ... Query ..., IID_...FACE2/UseDefault... )<br /><br />... with any of the interfaces on the reported boss class.<br />Methods such as Query...() and Create...() both imply an AddRef, only some of the InterfacePtr<> constructors are meant for those, while others will call AddRef themself.<br />Of course if you use AddRef() yourself, also check those for matching Release().<br /><br />Dirk
  • MuseJS Assert: Error
    Our we site was done on godaddy. But when I export to HTML the CSS file doesn't up date. So publishing with the business cat. is easier. I just have godaddy forward our site to it.  And I am getting the following error:   MuseJS Assert: Error caling selector function: reference error: 'PIE' is undefined. The home page seems to be the only one that gets the error.
    http://www.dixiepolydrum.com/index.html
    From what I can tell is that the home page is not forwarding to the business cat site, but all the other pages do.
    Cindy
    Hello Cindy,
    It seems to work fine for me. Did you get it resolved?
    And regarding exporting to HTML, could you please try and export it to some other location on your local machine and check if it works for you or not?
    Regards,
    Sachin
  • Assert error/hangs running the performance sample code
    Hi,
    I'm doing some work to understand how fast I can expect Berkeley DB to run and I found the 2006 white paper on [Performance Metrics and Benchmarks|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/berkeley-db/pdf/berkeley-db-perf.pdf] so I downloaded the [sample code|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/berkeley-db/files/perf.zip] and made a couple of fixes to make it run with 4.7.25 (shown at the end).
    When I run 'make test' it frequently hangs on the "Transactional Data Store (write, in-memory logging)" test under OS X 10.5.7 and under Debian lenny (kernel 2.6.26-1-amd64).
    If I rebuild BDB with --enable-diagnostic I get this assertion error.
    Hi,
    I reproduced your problem on Ubuntu 4.2.3 with db 4.7.25 and saw the same assert error as you. From the error message, the program asserts error/hangs at the "Transactional Data Store (write, in-memory logging)", that is calling op_tds() with DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY as the flags.
    The problem comes from your change on the sample code that the DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY is set with wrong API. The DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY should be set in DB_ENV->log_set_config(). Please refer to [DB_ENV->log_set_config|http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/api_c/env_log_set_config.html] and its flag DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY.
    I change env's setting flags in op_tds() as follows. In this way, the error I saw is eliminated and the program works as expected.
    The original code is:
    PERF_CHECK(
            dbenv->set_flags(dbenv, DB_AUTO_COMMIT | txn_flags, 1) == 0);"
    {code}
    I change it to:
    {code}
    if (txn_flags == DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY) {
            PERF_CHECK(
               dbenv->log_set_config(dbenv, DB_LOG_IN_MEMORY, 1) == 0);
            txn_flags = 0;
    PERF_CHECK(
            dbenv->set_flags(dbenv, DB_AUTO_COMMIT | txn_flags, 1) == 0);
    {code}
    Please apply the change and l*et us know if it works on your machine.
  • Assert error once I exit indesign
    Hi All.,
    I am developing a plugin for my client. The plugin seems to working fine. But once I close the plugin window and exit indesign I get an assertion error followed by memory leaks message.
    I am posting the error below:
    ~InstanceList(): 1 outstanding references to UID 9001 (Class Unknown3rdPartyPrefix + 6 (0xfe606)).
    \Development\firedrake\source\components\database3\main\InstanceList.cpp (1784)
    ~InstanceList(): 2 outstanding references to UID 4160 (Class ShuksanPrefix + 8 (0x108)).
    ~InstanceList(): 1 outstanding references to UID 4159 (Class ShuksanPrefix + 8 (0x108)).
    ~InstanceList(): 1 outstanding references to UID 25 (Class ShuksanPrefix + 8 (0x108)).
    Can somebody provide me a solution.
    Thanks
    Vishnu
    Hi!<br /><br />Dunno if this helps you (from ww-plugin.pdf, page 36):<br /><br />Generally, Query*** methods (commonly known as bridge methods, see Using databases and<br />objects in plug-ins on page 37) return a pointer to an interface derived from IPMUnknown,<br />and also increment the reference count. However, you would still like to take advantage of the<br />automated cleanup provided by InterfacePtr. To prevent reference counts from incrementing,<br />like in Type 1a and 1b, use this constructor, which does not call IPMUnknown::AddRef:<br />InterfacePtr<IGeometry> iPageGeometry(iSpread->QueryNthPage(0));<br />The following line of code looks perfectly innocent, but if you execute this and quit InDesign,<br />then you will get a boss leak:<br />InterfacePtr<IGeometry> iPageGeometry(iSpread->QueryNthPage(0), UseDefaultIID());<br />Look carefully: ISpread->QueryNthPage(0) increments the reference count and also, by means<br />of InterfacePtr constructor Type 1a, the reference count increments again.<br />The easiest remedy is to remove UseDefaultIID. However, if you leave it as is, and fail to notice<br />that a call to iPageGeometry->Release is necessary, you will get a boss leak.<br /><br />Short version: If you create an InterfacePtr with QuerySomething, I think you have to release it afterwards.
  • Assert error
    Hi everyone,
    i have a screen with four drop down by keys and an alv...i get a dump saying ASSERT error on every third click on the screen.This click could just be scrolling the alv.Also note the dump happens only when the ALV has some data in it.No of hits for ALV is 10,000.
    Any ideas regarding this issue?
    PS:helpful answers will be rewarded with points
    Runtime Errors         ASSERTION_FAILED
    Date and Time          07.06.2007 05:54:00
    Short text
    The ASSERT condition was violated.
    What happened?
    In the running application program, the ASSERT statement recognized a
    situation that should not have occurred.
    The runtime error was triggered for one of these reasons:
    - For the checkpoint group specified with the ASSERT statement, the
    activation mode is set to "abort".
    - Via a system variant, the activation mode is globally set to "abort"
    for checkpoint groups in this system.
    - The activation mode is set to "abort" on program level.
    - The ASSERT statement is not assigned to any checkpoint group.
    What can you do?
    Take note of the actions and inputs that lead to the error.
    Contact your SAP administrator for further processing of the problem.
    Using transaction ST22 for ABAP short dump analysis you can see and
    administrate termination messages and retain them for a longer period.
    Error analysis
    The following checkpoint group was used: "No checkpoint group specified"
    If in the ASSERT statement the addition FIELDS was used, you can find
    the content of the first 8 specified fields in the following overview:
    How to correct the error
    Probably the only way to eliminate the error is to correct the program.
    You may able to find an interim solution to the problem
    in the SAP note system. If you have access to the note system yourself,
    please use the following search criteria:
    "ASSERTION_FAILED" " "
    "/1WDA/L8STANDARD==============CP" bzw.
    "/1WDA/L8STANDARD==============CCIMP"
    "IF_WDR_VIEW_ELEMENT_ADAPTER~SET_CONTENT"
    If you cannot solve the problem yourself, please send the
    following documents to SAP:
    1. A hard copy print describing the problem (short dump).
    To obtain this, select "System->List->Save->Local File (unconverted)"
    on the current screen.
    2. A suitable hardcopy printout of the system log.
    To obtain this, call the system log with Transaction SM21
    and set the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes after
    the short dump. In the display choose "System->List->Save->
    Local File (unconverted)"
    3. If the programs are your own programs or modified SAP programs,
    supply the source code.
    To do this, choose "More Utilities->Upload/Download->Download" in the
    Editor.
    4. Details regarding the conditions under which the error occurred
    or which actions and input led to the error.
