Assertion failed - during install, part 4

Somewhat after 50% of part 4, this is what I get:
Assertion failed: np->rn_parent == pp [.....]
file rc_node.c, line 1353
[and some more lines]
What is wrong ? Do I have to download / burn the CD again ?

My system is a Ultra 5, 256 MB memory and a new disk (i.e. clean install).
I booted the installation headless with "boot cdrom - w" and installed "Entire dist" minus a few things.
I burned the cd's with verify to make sure there was no error.

You are right. There are a lot more self-support tools available in Windows
than in MacOS. All you ever get on a Mac is "That didn't work: -304998173".
    Thanks for your insights.

The upgrade is not the 11.0.06, but that is an update. The upgrade is what
you can purchase if you had a previous version of Acrobat (at least AA 9).
The upgrade is substantially less in price than the full product. With the
upgrade you also have to have the SN of the previous product available for
the install. That is why I asked about the upgrade. Once you install AA XI,
then going to 11.0.06 is a free update (updates are changes in the
sub-version and are done quarterly or when there is a critical security
issue).  You can often fix installations by running a repair. In Windows
that is done either from Help>Repair or from the Control Panel. I do not
know the equivalent of the Control panel in the MAC. In any case I am glad
    you got it fixed.

  • IMovie 10.0.2 keeps failing during install

I have been trying to update iMovie but it keeps failing during install. It gets nearly to the end, then I get the error "Cannot install Titles". I see in the reviews that this is happening to many people.
I am running Mac OS 10.9.1. I can't run iMovie because it says it is being updated. I can't update, so iMovie is trashed. All because I followed Apple's directions.
    What's the fix?

Best to reinstal iMovie 10.  It will already be version 10.0.2.  details on reinstalling from App Store here:

  • Adobe AIR fails during install

    21.5" intel iMac, 10.6.1, 4GB RAM, CS4 Premium new install - upgrade from CS2.
    CS4 successfully installed to laptop.
iMac <easy installation> timed out several times during install, the first time trying to install Adobe AIR. System setup transferred from previous machine, including CS2 apps, settings, etc.
This is a replacement iMac for a defective unit returned 5 days ago. Was able to install CS4 on defective machine minus transfered user info, applications, data. (Prior to return to Apple CS4 was deactivated, SN removed. Subsequent launch of PS into trial mode confirmed.)
After quitting the app installer several times discovered the dialogue box below was hidden by installer box. Clicking "OK" allowed process to continue.
CS4 is now installed and updated, but I don't know which apps the dialogue box was referring to, or if this requires a solution.

I did not find automatic graphics switching, but after several failed attempts of trying to install it, it eventually installed.

  • IPhone configuration utility fails during install

Hi, I'm trying to use the iPhone configuration to setup the APN settings on an iphone 4, but every time I try to install, it says the configuration profile cannot be installed on device. • Assertion failed during save of slideshow settings

    Hi,
Great to be able to try out the new Lightroom version!
Here are two things I'm noticing:
There seem to be several issues with slideshow. When I try to change slideshow settings, "impromptu slideshow" stops working in all modes. Also, on occasion, when I try to save slideshow parameters (in the slideshow module), I get the following error message: "Unexpected error performing command: assertion failed!".
What I did was turning almost everything off in the slideshow, no border, cast shadow, guides, no borders, identity plate, rating stars, text overlays, color wash, intro/ending screens, then tried to save that.
The other issue is that it's significantly slower than my current Lightroom 2 version, as many people have already pointed out.
    Am using a 4-core Vista 64 machine.

    Hi Victoria,
Thanks very much for your quick reply and for looking into this. Here is a sequence that reliably reproduces it for me, after some trials, hopefully this is helpful:
Go to Library module, exit Lightroom 4
Start Lightroom 4 again (starts in Library module).
    Switch to Slide show module
Make some changes to settings in the right panel (e. g. disable "Stroke Border") and save changes (Slideshow->Save Slideshow settings). Note: When I first did that, I unchecked all the boxes, except for "Slide Duration" and "Repeat").
    Switch back to Library module.
Exit Lightroom and restart it (is in Library module now).
Click on "impromptu slide show" button in the toolbar. The slide show will start, but with different settings from what was saved earlier.
Exit out of slide show with ESC. Switch to Slideshow module.
You can see now that the settings are different from what was saved. Make some changes to settings in the right panel (e. g. ...) and try to save changes (Slideshow->Save Slideshow settings). I get an assertion failure when I do this.
Generally, when I exit Lightroom from the Slideshow module and come back, I see the previously saved settings. However, when I exit Lightroom from the Library module and restart it, I get different slideshow settings from what I last saved.
Also, it seems like "impromptu slideshow" stops working, once I visit the Slideshow module.
Once I saw Lightroom abend when I exited after getting the assertion - but I can't reproduce that. Here is the event that was generated:
Faulting application lightroom.exe, version 4.0.0.1, time stamp 0x4ef2621d, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18541, time stamp 0x4ec3e855, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x00000000000acb17, process id 0x59c, application start time 0x01ccd4c03f0b3450.

  • Database Configuration Assistant fails during instalation of Oracle EE 8.1.7

My machine runs RH 6.2 and I have tried to install it Oracle. After executing all pre-instalation steps, I run ./runInstall and instalation process goes on. I select Typical Instalation and instalation proceeds until 100%, when OUI tries to configure Net 8 Assistant and Database Configuration Assistant. Both applications fail in this phase. Unfortunately, OUI shows a message (Database Configuration Assistant) informing that /u01/.../JRE/bin/jre does not exist. However, I have installed JDK 118 and JRE link seems correct, so that I can access JDK directory throught JRE link.

  • OMS configuration assistant failed during install OEM 10gR2

I'm installing OEM Grid control 10g R2 using new database. Everything ran smoothly till OMS configuration assistant was kicked off. All other configuration tools ran before this one were succeeded.
When OMS configuration tool started, it hung there for a long time, so I "stop" and "retry" it, got message in detail box" /usr/oracle/OracleHomes/agent10g/cfgtoollogs/configToolFailedCommands" script contains all commands that failed, were skipped or were cancelled. This file may be used to run these configuration assistants outside of OUI. Note that you may have to update this script with passwords (if any) before executing the same."
    In "configToolFailedCommands" file, showing "oracle.sysman.emcp.agent.AgentPlugIn".
I tried to "stop" and "retry", machine was frozen. What can I do now?
    Please help. I'm stuck here.
    Thanks in advance!

    The configuration failed again.
I stopped 9i listener (we have 9i dbs on same server) then ran OMS configuration tool from command line like this:
    cd /usr/oracle/OracleHomes/oms10g/oui/bin
    ./runConfig.sh ORACLE_HOME=/usr/oracle/OracleHomes/oms10g ACTION=Configure MODE=PerformPerform - mode is starting for action: Configure
Perform - mode finished for action: Configure
You can see the log file: /usr/oracle/OracleHomes/oms10g/cfgtoollogs/oui/configActions2007-05-15_01-50-02-PM.log

  • Indesign frequently fails during "create parts" for Review

It's too bad I cannot search these forums... It's amazing they have been broke this long, c'mon Adobe, it's 2006 already, get with the times!
I find that I have to kill Indesign CS5 and restart it (indd) in order to successfully add to an existing (CS) Review. Sometimes after restart I can upload many pages, all pages, no problem, sometimes I can add one, then it fails again.
Adding parts to a Review is VERY frustrating for me, almost to the point where I don't want to do it anymore and just send out hardcopies, or PDF's.
Is anyone else having frequent trouble with review? When I have the problem, indd hangs (in background) on the "creating parts" phase.
Windows 7, quad core, 8GB, plenty of free space.
    Thank you
    Paul

  • Sun One Webserver 6.1 fails during Install

    Hi,
I have been trying to install SunOne Web Server 6.1 on Solaris 9 and my install has been failing every single time. I have not been able to get it to install successfully.
It fails at a point where i need to select what port to run webserver (http) on. All i do is leave the default port selection "80" and as soon as I hit enter i get Error Message: "Unable to bind to port 80"
I have checked on my system and i don't have that port in use at all.
I am trying to perform this install as a non-root user.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    J

This is covered in the Installation and Migration guide. Specifically, the Installing Web Server on UNIX chapter contains the following:
Logging In as the Correct User
Before you install Sun ONE Web Server, you must log in as root, unless you meet the following conditions:
    * You plan to install the Sun ONE Web Server on a port higher than 1024.
    * The location where you plan to install the server (the server root directory) is writable with your non-root login.
    * You are not planning to use Express installation.
If you meet these conditions, you do not need to log in as root to install the server; instead log in as the user account that the Administration Server will use. However, you may still prefer to log in as root, even though you meet the conditions.

  • Airport Utility for Windows fails during install

I downloaded the latest driver for the airport utility for Windows 7.   Ran the exec and during the install had a failure on some file that didn't get installed.
Have all firewalls down.  Utility comes up but doesn't find my airport extreme.

Thanks.  Tried the hard wire approach and the utility didn't find it.   Did the config other and it was found.  So the unit is there but the utility can find it which is what I need in order to connect the shared drive to my windows 7 system.
The airport base station agent is running and configured but I never get a prompt to enter the disk password.
Nice clue about using the IP to connect.
I did this via WIFI. Used my iMac to get the IP address.
The time machine is in bridge mode and connecting through another router to the internet.

  • CopyMedia fails during install

My cdrom drive is called /dev/sr0. The copyMedia RPM script is looking for /dev/cdrom (or dvd etc etc) and fails to copy the DVD's contents.
I am now manually running the script's cp command after mount -o bind the DVD to /mnt.
    Hillarious. It may even work.

    Find <dvd>/NOWSSBE2/suse/i586/NOWS-copyMedia-2.5-1.i586.rpm.
Just cat it and you will see the three cp commands that set up the /opt/media directories.
    Then run /opt/simba/modules/sbs/bin/copyMedia.sh
rug sl and zypper sl should now show three sources
