Assessing one account from another on same computer

I have been using a mac as a company server. I am now adding a user to that computer, but I am unable to set them up in such a way as they can access the folders under the user account which functions as my server. Is this possible (I could not find the answer in the forums)?
Thanks,
Ken

This is all a matter of permissions.
If new user 'they' needs to access your server folders, 'they' need to be added to that account accordingly - how that is accomplished depends on the current configuration on the server and how 'they' will be coming in...across a local network, web access, remote, etc.

  • Transfer app from one account to another with same SKU number

    Hi,
I want to transfer a application from one account to another and i get this error:
You cannot transfer apps with a App product ID that is the same as a product ID used by the recipient's app.
The Apple ID for both applications is different.
The only thing in common in the SKU number which i have to admit, is poorly chosen for both apps - 01.
I don't want to re-submit my apps so i can choose a new SKU number for one of them.
Is there any way i can transfer them ?
I think you should be able to choose a new SKU number when you transfer to another account because your app is going to belong in a new inventory.
    Thanks

Found the answer today from Apple:
"It is not possible to transfer an app that has an identical SKU/product ID to another app on the recipient's account. If you would like the app to be distributed on the App Store through this specific account, you will need to remove it from sale, delete it from the current account, and then upload it as a new app in the new account. Deleting the app will enable you to use the app name in the new account.
When you move the app to the new account, you will disable current customers from receiving automatic and free updates of your app. Also, all customer reviews, rating, and ranking information will be reset.
Deleting an app permanently removes the app and any associated In-App Purchases from iTunes Connect. After the app has been deleted, you won’t be able to reuse your app name and SKU. Also, if you have uploaded a binary or enabled the app for the iAd Network, you won’t be able to reuse your Bundle ID.

  • Folders: One account from another?

I've two accounts on my machine, one with 'reference documents' and a second 'normal' account I use day to day.
If I'm working on another machine I can access my 'reference' account by logging in with afp, and supplying my username and password.
    So far so good.
If I'm working on +my own+ machine I can't find a way to access the folders containing my documents from my 'normal' login. I can fast-user-switch between the accounts, but it's a bit inconvenient.
Is there a way I can open (or mount) a folder from one local account in another local account by supplying my login credentials?

The two situations are different: Logging into an account—using that account's name and password—puts the whole account at your disposal simultaneously with the account you're logging in from. Logging into the same 'target' account from another account on the same machine effectively closes the original account. But short of a spli-screen, it's hard to imagine Apple doing it any other way.
The only recourse would seem to be to defeat some of the target's designed-in security by adjusting ownership and permissions of the desired files to allow the other account[s?] access. The more files, the more complex the adjustment. Perhaps it might be worth reconsidering the original division of functional distinctions: reference and normal into separate accounts. Partitions or separate drives might work better.

  • Can't access files from one account to another on same Mac

I've got a new macbook and I've divided it into two accounts. One account has all my iTunes music but the other is a fresh iTunes with no music.
I've been trying to get access to the music from the other account. It seems like it should be easy as it's already on this computer. I've tried copying the iTunes folder into the public folder and going to the other account and copying it to it but that's not working.
I've also tried sharing the files from the Sharing sys prefs. But can't get that to work. And I've also put the Music folder into the Shared folder and still nothing.
The folders I need have the red minus on them.
I must be missing something simple. Help!
    Thanks.

    wireduck,
Highlight the music folder and on the keyboard type (Command) + i: on the window that opens scroll down if need and click on the lock on the bottom right. Type in an Admin User name and password. Then under the (Sharing & Permissions:) make sure the users you want to open the folder are listed and that there (Privilege) is set to @ least Read. If not hit the ( + ) sign and add them. After you have that all set up click on the little gear next to the ( - )s sign and (Apply to a enclosed items). that way each user can read the files. After that the little ( - ) sign should be gone on the folders.
    Hope that helps.

  • Move purchased song from one library to another on same computer

I have 2 iTunes libraries on the same computer.  I purchased a song from itunes and downloaded it to the wrong library by mistake.  How do I move/copy/transfer this one song to the correct library, please.  Both libraries are set for sharing but I can't work out how to move the song.
I am running itunes 10 on a new iMac.
Apologies if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find a thread coving this topic.

    you're welcome.
note there are 3rd party apps available that make managing multiple libraries easy:

  • Problems importing mail from one user to another on same computer

    Hi,
I work from home so I created a new account on my computer so I could have a personal user and a business user. That way maybe I won't always end up working when I'm trying to relax. So I want to bring all my old work emails over the the new work account. But when I copy the mail files to the new user account and then try to import, the folders all have red circles with minus signs. I gather that this has something to do with permissions, but when I change the owner to the new user, they still have the red circles. I also tried just moving the whole mail folder over to the new user, but it's "read only".
Both users are administrators. I'm running OS 10.4.4.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Hi Andrew.
What you tried to transfer the Mail folder from one user to the other should have worked, except I believe you didn't properly change ownership of the files and folders involved.
    7. open new user Mail
    8. Mail asks me to set up an email account
This probably happened because you didn't change ownership of the com.apple.mail.plist file. If Mail doesn't have access permission to write to that file, it just deletes the file and creates a new one (Mail can delete the file because doing that requires write permissions for the directory the file is in, which it has). As a result of re-creating the preferences file, Mail asks you to set up your accounts from scratch all over again.
    14. change the ownership of the mail folder to the
new user, but I still can't look inside the folder
and it has the red circle with the minus sign.
It looks like you tried changing ownership of the enclosing Mail folder only. Ownership of all the items within it must be changed as well. Unfortunately, there is no way to do this properly in the Finder, as the Apply to enclosed items button in the Get Info window also overwrites access permissions, not just the changes you make to ownership. Usually, this is wrong, as a different set of permissions may be appropriate for each item. In the particular case of the Mail folder, however, you can come close to doing the right thing as follows:
    1. In the Finder, go to HOME/Library/. Locate the Mail folder, select it and choose File > Get Info (⌘I). Under Ownership & Permissions, expand Details by clicking on it.
    2. Change the settings as follows (you may need to click on the lock icon to authenticate first). Owner: username, with "Read & "Write" access permissions; Group: username, with "Read only" access permissions; Others: "No Access".
    3. Click on the Apply to enclosed items button at the bottom of the Get Info window.
    4. Change Group access back to "No Access", which probably was (or should be) the initial setting when you opened the Info window.
    5. Close the Get Info window.
The right way to (recursively) change ownership of the Mail folder without altering access permissions would be issuing the following command in Terminal:
    sudo chown -R username:username ~/Library/Mail
And while you're at it, you may as well use Terminal to change ownership of the preferences file:
    sudo chown username:username ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

  • Transfer iweb website from one "User" to another on same computer

Hi there, I've been building two websites using one .mac account. Now I need to send one of the websites to another .mac account so they can be completely separate from each other.
I created another "user" on my computer so that way I'll have only one website loading each time I open iWeb determined by which "user" I have open on my computer.
Here's the problem...how do I get the material from iWeb to transfer to this new "user" I created? I chose "PUBLISH TO A FOLDER" and then dragged that folder to the SHARED FILE, and then dragged that folder onto the new user I created...but when I open iWeb on the new user it doesn't display anything from that Folder.
Where do I put the material from that folder so that iWeb will read it when it opens? I can't find an "import" button, or anything like that.
    Thanks

iWeb stores your data in a domain.sites2 file in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
Copy this file and paste it into the equivalent location in the other user account.
Make sure you give this user "write" permission.

  • Move apps from one itouch to another using same computer

I have a itouch 3g, my daughter has been playing alot of games on it, so for her upcoming brithday I brought her a itouch 3g. My question is how to get all of the games she has playing with the history transfered to her new itouch so I can get them off my itouch?

Do one final sync (it includes a backup) of the old iPod.  The restore the new iPod from the backup of the old iPod.  She will have to renter her passwords and other keychain items since those are only restore to the sam device unless you use an encrypted backup.

  • Transfer Itunes Library from one user to another on same computer?

Okay. Was trying to clean my computer up the other day b/c the main user of this computer is no longer using this computer. So, everything is in his name and it was annoying me. So, I created a new administrative user and thought the itunes library would just transfer over. It didn't. So, I figured it would be easier to just change the main current user's profile to my name and tried to change the home folder name. When I did this it cleaned up the whole desktop and folders as if I created a new user (blank slate). So, now all my music is in this other folder and my memory is too low to import it into I-Tunes. Does anybody know how to get around this? I tried just switching the folder in I-tunes Preferences, but now it just points to that folder. The music is still just sitting there NOT in I-tunes. I'm new to messing around with MAC settings so I'm afraid I royally messed up my computer. Please Help

If you have already told iTunes where you want to keep the library (Preferences>Advanced>iTunes Music folder location>change), then now all you need to do is actually import all those songs into your library.
Close the pref's window. Go to File>Add to Library and add what you want to. I'd advise after that to also Consolidate your library (File>Library>Consolidate Library), IF you want to keep all your music in one place. Make sure you have all the music you want added first, from all the different areas of your computer.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • Move photos from one user to another on same computer

How do I MOVE pictures that I have created on one user to the new user?
I don't wish to keep the photos on the other user as I feel it would use up too much room on the Imac...

    Does this involve iPhoto somehow?
Assuming it does: export from iPhoto in Accoint A; put the files in the Users/Shared folder. Switch to Account B. Import the files from the Users/Shared Folder.
Then delete the files from Users/ Shared and back to Account A and delete them from iPhoto there.
    Regards

  • How can I copy settings from one account to another on same iMac?

A week ago, my Nik plugin to Aperture and Photoshop crashed the these two apps. I created a new account, and now the plugin works without crashing int he new account. i want to transfer all my settings to the new account. How can I do it?

Create a new folder on the desktop, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide ~/Library/ as the path, move some of the items inside to that folder, keeping track of what you moved, try the plugin again, and repeat as needed.
Moving the wrong item to a different user account will transfer the problem.

  • Accessing one account from another

My HD seems to be dying. I can't access my main account, but for some reason I can access a secondary account for my daughter. Is it possible, after making my daughter's account an admin account, to access the main account's Photo, Music and Movies folders so I can back that stuff up? Right now it seems to have me locked out of everything except the public folders.

    Have you run Repair Disk?
    Steps for using Disk Utility
    1. Insert your Mac OS X CD-ROM disc or Restore DVD disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key until you see the spinning gear..
    2. Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
    6. Click Repair.
If you repair errors run it until no errors found.
Also run Repair Permissions while you're there.

  • Is there a way of shifting purchases from one account to another with the same billing information, so that I don't lose purchases made by my iPhone when I sync?

The AOL address I was using for my iTunes account has been deleted due to me not signing in for awhile and I'm afraid that I will lose all of my purchases made from my iphone when I sync it into iTunes for a much needed update and so that I can (hopefully) transfer its data to my new iPhone 4...
The only time I have synced my current iPhone was when I activated it but since then I have not been able to sync with my computer and now have a new one.
Sorry about the garbled way this is written but I desperately need help:
1, Is there a way of shifting purchases from one account to another with the same billing information?
    Or
2, is there a way of recovering my old account and changing the details?
Any other help is greatly appreciated
    Thom

You don't need to access your e-mail account, just get into your Apple account and change the e-mail address. If you can't access your Apple account, then you have a bigger issue to contend with.
