Asset depreciation posting via interface

Hello,
My client would like to use WBS elements as investment measures to bring capital projects through WIP and capitalize to FXA's.  However, they want to maintain an external asset accounting system as the system of record for depreciation, write ups, write downs, etc.  Our system will receive these postings via interface.
They would also like to record depreciation of a single FXA to various WBS elements based upon a crosswalk from the asset accounting system.  I am trying to find a way to make multiple JV's to post this,
Dr Depreciation expense, key 40 - WBS
CR Accumulated Depreciation, key 75 - FXA.
Thus, FI-AA's manual depreciation and unplanned depreciation transactions will not meet this requirement as far as I can tell.
I have been trying to make ABF1 or FB01 work.  ABF1 will allow for this posting, however, I am not able to select the individual asset on the credit line.  Is this a screen layout configurable item?  FB01 will not allow a depreciation transaction type to be used in the transaction at all.
Can anyone help with this?
Thanks,
John

To be frank, any solution that is built around something like ABF1 should be reconsidered.  I'm all for delivering creative solutions when required to but wouldn't propose something like that to a customer...  at least not without a "you'll get no support from SAP on something like this".  Since the external system will track all of the asset's depreciation calculations and value adjustments, why not just post a simple FI document using a BADI?  Why muck it up with ABF1?  It would seem that if they accept the fact that they are leaving SAP then they are leaving behind some integration benefits as well.  Trying to regain those benefits by posting to a recon account and (hopefully) maintaining a reconciled set of books between the GL and FIAA isn't logical to me.
Posting costs to a series of CO objects is the job of CO.  You might be able to come up with a solution using FI-AA but I would expect more problems related to document creation as you have already found.  Just post it to a high level WBS/IO and then allocate using whatever logic they require.  At least you'll have the tools to do so within CO.

  • Asset Depreciation Posting - AFAB

    Hi,
I have executed Depreciation with Test run in AFAB Transaction Code, it says Document Created. But when i execute the Depreciation run through Back ground process, it is not upadating the Depreciation GL account. Please guide me on this regard.
    Thanks
    Sivanand

    Dear,
    Sivanand.
Please check the T.code AFBP which is more reliable than SM37 log. If you have any inputs please provide as said in rest one thread so that any one can guide you to understand the situation.
AFBP shows the depreciation posted log. The report accesses the ANLP log table that was created during the depreciation posting run, and makes it possible to later ananlyze details of depreciation and account assignment per asset. By double-clicking on the document number, you can also jump to all accounting documents that were generated.
I hope this help clears you the issue. If you have any doubts please share.

  • Asset Depreciation Posting Question

    Hi Experts,
Do you know a solution to carry-over the License value (ANLZ-KFZKZ) to Reference Key 3 (BSEG-XREF3) of Accounting Document created for Asset Dep Posting?
I already tried Subsitution in GGB1 but it does not permit to create steps for this kind of scenario. If there are user-exits you know please advise me.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Cecilio ,
    I'm sorry, it's not possible to fill manually the fields BSEG-XREF 1 - 3,

  • Asset Depreciation posting at historical exhange rate in Non-leading LEDGER

    Hi Dear collegues
Our client would like to post depreciation at historical exchange rates, but only at certain non-leading ledgers.
So in leading leger the exchange rate should be at the posting day exchange rate, and at the other ledgers should be at historical ledgers. We were thinking that the bes way is to have one valuatio area in Local Currency linked to leading ledge and another asset area attached to the non-leading ledger with a parallel currency area (with historical values). Do you agree with this perspective ?
    thanks

Yes you are right, but in our case we have parallel depreciation areas that are posting depreciation document to diferent GL Ledger books.  (Dep areas are linked to Ledger books)
So we just are looking for posting at historical exchange rate in one of that no-leading ledger. The rest of areas an Ledgers should post at posting exchange rate
    thanks

  • Asset Depreciation Posting : Manually Posted??

    Hi All,
I am facing a new problem related to asset accounting, that whenever i try to post the dep to a newly created asset through AFAB system creates no documents and the message comes like : "One depreciation document already manually posted." But my asset is new and i have not posted any dep till yet, so that message is coming.
    Please help me.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Suman

    Hello
This is probably because you are using a document type with same number range than another doc. type that has already  been used to post manually.
When posting Depreciation last entry in TABA from previous
posting run is used to assign next doc. number (if is the first posting it will take first number from the number range assigned to dep. doc. type).
Do not use number range used for depreciation for other doc. types.
Display doc. number already posted with FB03 to find out
    more.

  • Asset Depreciation posting Error - AFAB

    Hi,
There is an asset which has already scrapped on 31/12/2010 before  the Depreciation run. For Period 12 posting is Nil. Year is closed and Financial books are prepared. Now we are not able to Run AFAB for the Current periods, as system gives the error  "Last posting run teminated (Restart in period 2010/12)  Could anyone advice as to how we can resolve this problem and is there any wayout without afftecting the finanacial books?
    Regards
    Shankar

    Dear  Trisha,
Thank you very much for your recent reply. Issue i got is very much similar to above mentioned scenario.
The problem is person has Run depreciation twice, where first depreciation run was successful and documents were posted properly which we can check in TABA table status X. Where for same period person did run depreciation second time but there was some error and document status in same table shows status as 1.
like problem is in 12th period of 2010, i have to carry out depreciation run and year closing for 2011 and 2012 as well. its already 2013.
So in case i open the period and restart depreciation run, what are the process i will have to follow in order closed the year properly and carry out depreciation year for following years.
Please if possible give your expert advise and steps to follow in above condition.
    Kind regards,
    Pratik

  • Asset depreciation posting error

    Hi
My client requirement is every deprection posting some fixed amount. they don't want to supprot percentage bassis calculation. they asked only fixed amount every month. what the procedure plz tell me.
    Regards
    Madhav rao

    Hi,
If this is your requiremnet, you need to maintain dep key MANU in every asset master, where you dont want to calculate dep automatically.
So end of every month you need to use ABMA for each asset with manual dep amount to depreciate it.

  • Depreciation Posting Date

    Hello Experts,
We post depreciation via AFBP which is automatic depreciation where i am looking out for an option in SAP FA where I need to get a report which should provide posted depreciation details along with " POSTING DATE " of the depreciation.
I am not sure any such option is available where posting date of depreciation posted via AFBP is available but if it is please provide your inputs.
    Thanks,
    B

    Hi,
Any financial accounting document can be viewed by FB03 only.
Since your dep posting run also creates an Fi document, and that can be viewd with FB03.
once you have posted ep go to tcode AFBP and enter the CC, FY, Period, for which you have posted dep.
So it will show the dep posted log for that period. in the same screen you will find the dep posting document number also, so use that doc no in FB03 to view the line items of that document.
your dep document will have line items like below....
    Dep expense GL account DR
    Accum dep GL account CR
Hope this is clear to you.
    Thanks,
    Srinu

  • Problem with depreciation posting for an asset with a '0' net book value.

    Hi,
I have a problem with depreciation posting on one asset. I think it should not be calculated and posted at all.
On 1st November 2010 (our Fiscal year starts on 1st November) there was acquisition posted to an asset and then it was reversed on the same day - so the net book value was '0'.
In AFAB depreciation run for April 2011 - it posted depreciatoion of 0.01 Euro, so now the book value is -0.01.
Do you know how this could have happened and what can I do to get the value of this asset back to 0?
    Thank you,
    Karol

    Hi Murlidhar,
    Thank you for your reply.
I just have one doubt - as depreciation of 0.01 Eur was posted in previous period leaving net value of asset equal to -0.01 Eur.
Shouldn't I get ritd of this asset value before I proceed with the steps you suggested?
I think it is not possible to reverse the depreciation - so I struggle to find a way to bring asset value back to zero.
    Thank you,
    Karol

  • Can we close Fiscal Year for Assets without posting Depreciation?

    Hi All,
My client has 11 Company Codes. During the year end activity, I closed the FY of Assets for 10 Co. codes (T.code AJAB) and 1 is pending as depreciation is not posted for some assets yet. The client wants me to close the FY for assets without posting the depreciation.
Can anyone guide me on following doubts:
    1. Is it possible to Close FY for assets without posting depn?
    2. If YES, then what can be the adverse consequences of it?
    3. If NO, then what is the alternative reply I can give to my client?
I hope the above info. is sufficient.
    Regards
    Amarendra

    Hi All,
Finally I got the solution. I had to do some off track adjustment which might not be allowed otherwise. After getting that confirmation from the client that:
    1. They want to post zero values towards Depreciation for the year 2007              &
    2. After closing the year, later on there wont be any adjustments for the closed FY 2007
When client gave me above confirmation i did following steps:
1.Note down the Current Depreciation Key of the asset
2.Change the current depreciation key to u201C0000 - No depreciation and no interestu201D (TC: AS02)
3.Close the fiscal year 2007 (TC: AJAB)
4.Change the u201COrdinary Depreciation Startu201D date to 01.04.2008 for ALL the Depreciation Areas of that asset (AS02)
    5. Restore the Depreciation Keys of the assets as per the step 1 (TC: AS02)
6.Open New Fiscal Year 2009 (TC: AJRW)
So now the depreciation will be calculated from 01.04.2008 and no values are posted towards depreciation for the year 2007.
Off course in the normal course of time above solutions are useful.

    Amarendra

  • Depreciation posting for Book Assets to Cost Center

    Dear Friends,
We have upgraded from 4.70 version to ECC6.0 EHP4. Fixed Assets was not
implemented in 4.70. Now we are implementing Fixed Assets module in
    ECC6.0.
We have copied the Standard Chart of Deprecition 0IN from Client 000
and renamed the same as BCLL: Chart of depreciation: BCLL.
I defined asset masters and maintained Cost center and Bus Area in the
    Time Dependent area.
I maintained the configuration in Transaction Code ACSET for the
    default Cost Center.
But while posting depreciation i.e. AFAB, the system is throwing error
and not posting to the Cost center defined in the asset master.
Hence I am maintaining the Default Cost center in OKB9 for depreciation
    posting.
Please help me in resolving the issue.
    Best Regards
    Srinivas A

    Dear Friends,
As pointed out by you, I have already activated the Account Assignment KOSTL and also maintained the Account Assignment Object in ACSET but the system is throwing the error "Account 4850 requires an assignment to a CO object", Message Number KI235.
The system is not posting to the Cost Center maintained in the Asset Master record.
Hence I posted to the Cost Center maintained in OKB9 but I understand this is not the correct appraoch.
    Regards

  • Asset Depreciation fun in special posting period

    Dear Gurus,
Recently my Finance Manager decided to hv a cut-off date for all the FI transaction on 14-Dec-2007.
    These are the rules:
1.) All the FI transaction < 14-Dec-2007 posted in period 12
2.) All the FI transaction Between 15-Dec-2007 and 31-Dec2007 will be posted in special posting period 14.
3.) All year-end adjustment will be carried out in posting period 16.
    My problems are:-
1.) How can i proceed the Asset depreciation run for period 12 and special period 14.
2.) How the system select or capture the asset doc? By posting date or by posting period?
3.)If possible pls give some examples when we should use these options and what are the advantages?
       a.) Planned posting run.
       b.) Repeat
       c.) Restart
       d.) Unplanned posting run.
    Thanks.
    Lim J

1.) How can i proceed the Asset depreciation run for period 12 and special period 14.
Hi, First of all you need to understand the function of special period.  You need not to mention the spl period of depr. run.
The system considers period 12 as usual.
2.) How the system select or capture the asset doc? By posting date or by posting period?
    By posting date.
3.)If possible pls give some examples when we should use these options and what are the advantages?
    a.) Planned posting run.
When you run the depr. on regular peiod basis ie., one by one, U choose (a)
    d.) Unplanned posting run.
When you want to calculate the depr. for some periods as a whole, U choose (d)
    b.) Repeat
Suppose u ran the depr for Jan.  In Feb. you have capitalised an asset for Jan. So, U have to calculate depr for the new asset for jan.   U choose (b).
    c.) Restart
When you are running depr. you might have face some uncontrollable problems like power off, server down etc.  In such instances, you choose (c).
Get back to me. if you are not clear
