Asset Retirement or Shut Down

Hi Gurus,
We have a store that was burned out by fire last 2009.  The asset continues to depreciate in SAP upto now.
Should we use asset shutdown or asset retirement for this asset?  A new store was built in replacement to the damaged store.
The damage will be paid by the insurance company. Kindly advise if we will use asset shutdown or retirement and then set-up a new asset for the new store built?
Thanks,
Ellicec

Hi Atif,
Thank you very much for your immediate reply.
However, I have a few questions. What if we do not want to recognize any gain from the payment made by the insurance company? Also, how are we going to treat the depreciation postings made after the fire incident?

Ellicec

  • Asset Shut down Process

    Hi
Can anyone explain the Asset Shut down process in SAP?  The business requirement is to stop depreciatin depreciation for a time period if the asset relates to product specific machine and is currently not in use.  Start depreciating the Asset again when it is put to use
I checked the Asset Shut down process (checkbox in Asset master) and changing Dep key to 0000. System does not calculate depreciation for the time interval i give in shut down period but once i uncheck the box and change dep key, system posts depreciation for the current period as well as for the period it was shut down
Is there a way to avoid depreciation posting for the period it is shut down?  Am i missing something here or the correct process will be to to do an asset transfer to a non-depreciable asset class for shut down period and then again bring it back to original asset class
    Please advice
    Shiv

    Hi PAul
Thanks for the response.  I did check Asset Shutdown checkbox on the time dependent tab and in addition changed the depreciation key.  With this setting system do not calculate depreciation when i run AFAB.  The moment i uncheck this box, system posts depreciation even for the shut down period.  Is there a way to avoid depreciation for the period when it was shut down even after unchecking the Asset shut down check box
    Thanks

  • Mass shut down assets.

    Hi All,
Currently I can shut down asset one by one in AS02. Is there any easier way to mass shut down assets? Should I have to use LSMW?
    Thank you and good day
    Emma

    Hi,
you can execute a mass retirement, which is the developed functionality for that. Please search the documentation at http://help.sap.com, it is documented there.

  • How can i shut down depreciation for an Asset for few days??

    Hi Friends,
How can i shut down depreciation of a particular Asset for few days say 5 days??
I have done the necessary changes in Time dependent tab like checked asset shut down and in AFAMA i changed the shut dawn as YES.
The only problem i am in is "how can i maintain the 5 days like from 10.05.2009 to 14.05.2009
If i go to MORE INTERVALS then only From date is available over there. There is no To date opition.
How can i maintain To Date??
    Plz suggest.
    Regards,
    Sumaya

    Hi
Go for shut down approach. But your depreciation key should allow shut down. check your depreciation key configuration
    In asset master data
    Go to time dependent terms,
Define the appropriate time interval for shutdown
    Set the shutdown indicator
The system does not calculate the depreciation for the shut down period,
The useful life of the asset will increase to the extent of shutdown period.
When you remove the shutdown indicator, system automatically resumes the depreciation calculation.

  • Premier Pro shuts down the second I mouse over the preview of an asset. Whats wrong?

I am new to Premier Pro and am using a Mac Book Air with Windows installed.
As soon as I create a new project and import the assets (the "Eagles Documentary" example), the whole thing shuts down when I mouse over the assets to see them move.
    Any ideas???

Please provide the system info and other data points requested here: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?

  • Asset Shut down

    Hi Gurus,
When the asset is shutdown in a particular period, the depren is calculated only upto the previous month. For eg. if we shut down the asset in May'07, the system should calculate in May & then stop from June' 07.
Is there any way to achieve this other than maintaining intervals in the asset master record ?
    Rgds,
    NK

    Hi,
I think you can maintain the useful life of the asset in the asset master. Just note that if a useful life is not entered in the asset class, and you use depreciation keys that calculate automatically, this field is a required entry regardless of the settings in the screen layout control.
You can change the Useful life of the individual asset irrespective of the life set in the asset class.
Let me know if it works.

  • Asset Depreciation Shut down

    Hi SAP Guru
I want some information regarding How to stop for particular period to the asset? THis purpose we have one field in Asset master data.e.g. Asset Shutdown.
If i select this option where Can i get the report?
Or When I am running the depreciation I have to select this option for particular Asset?
    plz clearify above the sam.
    Regards
    Amar

When you create new record the date is to 31.12.9999.
When you create a new line form 01.01.2009 result is
    Old line   xx.xx.xxxx to 31.12.2008
    New line  01.01.2009 to 31.12.9999.
Perhaps you have to create a thirt line after the second one
Old New line  01.01.2009 to 31.12.9999.
    Old New line  01.01.2009 to  31.05.2009 .
    New line        01.06.2009 to  31.12.9999
    Note:
When you have a simple depreciation key like LINR this is working, but for some depreciation key it is possible that the values for after the shut down are not correct.

  • Power Supply Temperatures Running Hot! Mac Pro shuts down.

    Hello,
First I will give machine/hardware specs of interest:
    2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (pre 2009)
    8 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 (running 2 displays)
    Apple RAID Card/Controller
    SMC Version: 1.25f4
*venting dimensions around computer: top=18", left side=3", right side=3" and back=18".
    Software of interest currently running:
    OS X 10.5.8
    iStat Menu
    SMC Fan Control
My machine has been shutting down spontaneously and I suspect either CPU or power supply overheating. In the 5 instances this has occurred, the room was very warm (AC was not on) and I was running HandBrake with CPU at full and an iStat reading of 145 F. Ambient was 77 F and I was not reading power supply temps at the time. I figured for sure this must be a CPU overheating issue. However, just a few hours ago I had another shutdown. The room was warm again but I was not running Handbrake, but StarCraft II. I have played a lot of Starcraft II with no problems until tonight.
I decided, this time, to check the temps on my power supplies. Power supply 1 = 147 F, and #2 is at 178 F. After many hours of searching forums I have concluded that these are crazy hot temps! I immediately installed SMC Fan Control to attempt to increase the fan speeds. I was successful in increasing all fans except the power supply (stuck at 599rpm). I have now turned the AC on in the house and the Ambient is down to 70, PS #1 145 and PS #2 169. All of these temps are a result of and idle machine running a browser.
The following may or may not be an issue, however, leave no stone unturned. I currently have 12 external devices running on USB. 4 WD passport drives, 1 DVD writer, 5 WD powered drives plus the keyboard and mouse. Also, the Mac Pro is plugged into a small UPS.
In all my forum searches, I just can't seem to answer some basic questions:
    1. Can an overheated power supply shut the system down?
    2. What are optimal (normal) running temps for Mac Pro's? (everyone seems to have opinions, but there doesn't appear to be a technical specification anywhere).
    3. I thought the fans, especially CPU fans, were supposed to kick in when the heat rises. Why are mine staying at minimal rpm's?
Finally, does it look like I need new power supplies? Fans?
This machine was put into service in March of 2008 and has done very intensive rendering for the film industry...long nights...rendering for days sometimes. It has been retired for over a year now and is used at a lesser degree.
Thanks for reading this long post! I appreciate any input you can provide!
    Other iStat reading of interest:
    Power Supply 1 voltage = 12.28 V
    Power Supply 1 current = 26.44 A
    Power Supply 1 power = 316.75 W

Also, the Mac Pro is plugged into a small UPS.
    Put your peripherals on that.
Don't share the same circuit for A/C as the Mac Pro, and put the Mac on 1300VA UPS at least.
As for all those external drives.... I'd consolidate into a good SATA case or two.
And yes in summer run with 3 of the fans up around 900 rpm.

  • HP DV6000 series laptop - Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger

    Hi,
I am using a hp dv6000 series laptop for last 2 years....  Accidentally, water fell on my laptop and then my laptop itself fell down from the table.
One the first day when I tried restarting it  there was no response ( No power LED no display nothing, no cpu fan etc ...)
I disassembled the laptop, cleaned the RAM hard disk, front bezel, keyboard. I used a hair dryer to dry out any of the moisture. My laptop then started showing some response ... now after 4 days .... it is working all fine except the display...
    The problem is :
    1. The Laptop backlight is not working... (but I can see the display with a external flashlight pointed to screen)
    2. The laptop works fine on battery... but as soon as I connect the power charger... it immediatly shuts down.
Currently because of display problem... I am using the (RDP) windows remote desktop connection from an another laptop to access the desktop.... I logged on from another laptop and checked that all the internal harware parts are working fine.
Also, sometimes suddenly randomly the display backlight starts working fine and goes off randomly.
Please suggest. I seached all the online help but I have found no help on "Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger"...
    thanks.

It sounds like the LCD power inverter has been damaged and would need to be replaced.  As far as the AC adapter/battery issue, I'm not sure.  It sounds like you need to retire this notebook early.

  • HT5129 I have 30+ iPhoto Libraries, so every time I open one, iphoto wants to copy the 3 events I had out there when MobileMe shut down. Those 3 events are saved in the appropriate iPhoto libraries. Wish I had deleted them on MobileMe! How do I turn this

I have 30+ iPhoto Libraries, so every time I open one, iPhoto wants to copy the 3 events I had out there when MobileMe shut down. Those 3 events are already saved in the appropriate iPhoto libraries. Wish I had deleted them on MobileMe! How do I turn this process off?

As Larry mentioned I use a different DAM (digital asset management) appliclation, Media Pro 1. For other possible DAM apps visit  The DAM Forum which is for professional photographers.  There the various apps are discussed along with workflows.  If nothing else you'll get some good information on managing digital "negatives".
Media Pro lets you manage the folder organization of your photos and write metadata, keywords, titles, and other metadata directly back to the files.  No matter what app you go with have a backup plan in place to keep current backups of your source photos on separate hard drives.

  • Mail Disappeared After Shut Down

A retired friend bought a new 21.5 inch iMac 5 months ago and twice in the past week his mail has completely disappeared. Fortunately, there is a TM backup and I have used that once to restore everything for him. The first event also took away all Address Book and iPhoto contents.
Yesterday, he was unable to Quit or Force Quit Mail. He shut down and restarted and once again all his Mail content has gone west.
Does Mail need to be reinstalled?
    All suggestions welcome.

Ah, forgot, silly Apple has hiden the home Library folder in 10.7 & up...
Access User ~/Library Folder in OS X Mountain Lion & OS X Lion
Use “Go To Folder” and Open ~/Library/ Directly
All you need to do is hit Command+Shift+G from the Mac desktop  (or Finder > Go > Go to Folder) and type in ~/Library to temporarily access the Library directory in the Finder. When you are done, close this window and it will no longer be visible.

  • Adobe form central shutting down.

    Hi
I am not very happy regarding the way adobe form central has been announced its shutting down, I have received no email regarding this issue only notification on log into my account.
there are no support or option to contact adobe regarding this matter.
I am a fully paid subscriber to the annual service and adobe are closing Form Central in June - My subscription is paid for a full year until dec 2015.  I expect at the very least adobe to address annual subscribers and the fact they will no longer be providing a service mid way through their paid year.  Combined with the fact i have many active forms.
The service from adobe when it comes to this sort of issue and support has been unacceptable.

    Hi!
Many competitors of FormsCentral are checking these forums to help support the displaced users. I'm among them, with JotForm. =)
Our founder wrote a review of how the closure was handled, if it's of interest:
    https://medium.com/design-of-a-technology-business/how-to-handle-a-saas-product-shut-down- 9ee92b5f6ec3
The best news is they gave everyone six months to make alternate plans. The blog announcement includes some alternatives, which we were happy to be included on.
FormsCentral is retiring | Adobe Acrobat Blog
JotForm just announced today that we have a one-step Import Wizard, which will migrates all your Adobe forms and response data, into our system. It just takes a minute. We expect it's by far the easiest migration tool available, should you choose to use our service long term.
FormsCentral Alternative: Import Your Forms and Form Responses to JotForm
Best of luck finding an alternate service, and we welcome your feedback.

  • My A20m shuts down unexpectedly

A couple of years ago I inherited my sons A20m laptop and I've been using it to play music from internet radio on Media player through a FM transmitter to my stereo. Lately it shuts down after about an hour, it re boots but down again. I've taken it apart to clean dust and checked the fan but to no avail. Its a A20m 2628  128 mgs Ram 6gb HDD of which I have 3.41 free, Windows 98 SE. Anyone know whats happening or is it time to give up on it. Thanks

You can spend a lot less and still get a very decent machine.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 shutting down

Sorry to ask such a simple question, but I am new to Premiere Pro CS3.  Basically, whenever I start it up, I get to the point of importing some video (a small file), and then it seems like 3 out of 4 times when I try to do anything with the program after the import is complete, it simply shuts down and disappears with no warnings or errors.  I know from experience with Vegas Pro that video editors can be picky and unstable, but this is ridiculous.
Short of "re installing the program", are there any words of advice of things to check concerning the program (or me) to help keep it running longer than 60 seconds?  It is running on a Win XP32 machine with no other programs running at the same time.
Thanks in advance for your input.

    Excellent article!
    SYSTEM:
Let's start with the hardware.  This is a built from scratch PC about 2 -3 years old that I put together for using Vegas Pro and other high end Autodesk programs.  It is a Tyan server motherboard with two AMD Opteron quad core micros (8 cores total) running at a nominal 2.3 Ghz.  Total ram is 8 G of DDR2.  The video card is an ATI FireGL V5200 with 512M of video ram, driving two monitors.  The operating system is Windows XP 32.  It is a dual boot machine, capable of booting into either XP32 or XP x64.  The OS are on a 320G SATA2 hard drive.  The video files are on a striped RAID consisting of two 320G SATA2 hard drives.
Installed software includes everything from Master Collection CS3, Microsoft Office 2007, and a few other odds and ends.  The antivirus is Kaspersky 2009.
    ASSETS:
The imported video clip is 80M AVI from a camcorder that plays fine in either Vegas or Windows Media Player.
    WORKFLOW:
Have not got that far yet!
Let's start with the simple questions first:  When I get to the initial splash screen "Welcome to Adobe Premiere Pro", pressing either the "Exit" button or the red button with the X in the upper right corner of the splash screen causes the program to shut down.  Is that to be expected?
Oh, and to the best of my experience, this is the only software from the Master Collection CS3 suite that is having this problem.

  • System shuts down immediately upon build

My whole computer shuts down immediately upon trying to build a project. It only happens with one project. I can build other projects just fine. I was able to build this project just fine 5 months ago. I deleted the build folder to save space, but have made no other changes since then, other than transferring the project folder to another hard drive. Now every time I try to build the whole computer immediately shuts down.
My first thought, is somehow an asset went bad, but I have no idea how that could have happened because every thing worked fine five months ago. I can't even determine what causes the crash from the log because it happens immediately. I have tried transferring the project folder to other hard drives, but the same thing occurs. My biggest question is even with a corrupt asset why would the entire system shut down. I would think I would just receive an error message.
Thoughts on correcting the problem or any information as to what could cause the whole system to shut down would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Jurgen,
Thanks for your reply.  You are right, the key was in that file. (Volker also pointed me in that direction). For some reason it had a name for my server that was not in my CFTGCP #10.
    WARNING => DpNetCheck: NiHostToAddr(PTC02.PTC) failed (rc=-2)
I do not know where it got that address from.  It is close to the correct address but because it was not exactly correct the network access failed.  Once I made the change the jobs stayed up.
On to to the next problem....
