Assign hotkey to screen rotate?

Hi,
I find myself rotating the screen quite often through sysprefs>displays>rotate 90 degs or through the display icon in the menu bar.
However, neither of these methods is really easy. Would there be any way to assign a hotkey that rotates the screen by 90 degrees (and, of course, ideally make it a toggle?).
I've tried to use the new 'watch me do' function in Automator, but one way or the other it didn't work. Shame, because it was the first time I found a real use for it.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

How is it possible for you to rotate at all? I have a 2 core MacBook Pro and I can only find the rotate option when I connect an external monito (only rotates the external).
There is an application called SMSRotateD, you only push a button and it turns automatically detecting the position of your mac. The problem is I can only find the demo of it.
I need to rotate mine badly, because I have an inverted stup in my van. I have not being abble to find a way to rotate.
If anyone knows, please let me know.
I have Leopard installed.
Adrian

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation
I changed the Enable item value to 0,
but rotate it is still going with keyboard.
This make troubles with computer games.
    Thank you for advice

    Hi,
As a alternative way, please check wehther you have some video\graphic related software installed in your system, they're always used to control these graphic settings or some hotkey settings, but all depends on the PC model or the graphic card mdoel.

  • L220x SoftOSM screen rotation problem

I was showing off the screen rotation feature on the L220x but then found that it would not return to landscape orientation (embarrassing). I tried using the SoftOSM but the orientation button was greyed out. It had been OK before.
Then I remembered I had recently been prompted to download and install an update to the SoftOSM.
I uninstalled it and reinstalled the original version and at once the screen returned to landscape.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well, I've got trouble with auto rotation with latest update of SoftOSM also. Auto rotation option is checked but greyed out. Doesn't auto rotate altough works fine when using hotkeys.
I had problems with SoftOSM before but then it was related to XP SP3. Could not rotate at all. I had to uninstall SP3 and restore my system to previous state. But ok - shame on Microsoft this time ...
So it worked all fine untill i updated SoftOSM yesterday, altough Windows update was running at same time so I don't really know who to blame ...
I'm going slightly mad with this. I hate wasting time on such a "trivial" issues when it should work  (IMHO) flawless from beginning and always! Is this such a big thing to resolve? Is this so complicated to inplement? Why? I'm frustrated with this.

  • 10.4.11 upgrade loses screen rotation in display preference; downgrade?

Did an auto system update online to my powerbook G4 to 10.4.11.
Went to rotate the screen, holding option key, system prefs, displays.
NO ROTATION selection button. This was a very useful 'hidden' function,
that is now gone in this 'upgrade'. Don't want to go up to 10.5 or 10.6,
too many issues with functionality, compatibility.
Can I return to the previous version of 10.4 easily?
as this upgrade was over the internet, I don't have a CD to 'undo'.
    I believe I was on 10.4.1, or 10.4.3, or X.4.6, don't remember exactly.
A clean install of the version that came with the computer would be
a bit of hassle, could lose application support,
any suggestions? and why did the screen rotate function disappear
    in the 10.4.11 'upgrade' ?
    thanks

I did the 'over the internet install' on PB G4, no peripherals attached, did a restart and permissions repair as always. Seems this 'feature' has a history of appearing and disappearing in different versions of OSX, from what I can tell by some groups online. Only way to get back a very useful feature is to 'backgrade' until I get it back. btw, on a 17" powerbook, rotating 90 degrees gives a really useful vertical page, and with a external mouse, lots can be done. The function is not hardware dependent, only a software 'flip' of the pixel assignment on the screen. Why it should be 'hidden' ( hold option key,System Pref, Displays ) is beyond me. And why it should go away on system software upgrades is irritating and perplexing. Ahh well, thanks to all.

  • Screen rotation doesn't work on Dell Venue 11 Pro

I'm running Windows Technical Preview for Enterprise Build 9879 on a Dell Venue 11 Pro. It has the Intel Core-i5-4300Y processor and Intel HD graphics chipset.
All devices are recognized in Device Manager, but the screen does not rotate if I turn the tablet.
Is anyone else having issues with screen rotation?

I have Dell venue 11 pro 5130 version with the atom processor. And I think my tech preview just updated to the 9879 Build... I have only had tech preview installed less than a week.
The previous build I had (and I have no idea what the build was) Did rotate the screen just fine, but now I have to manually toggle the orientation.

In other words, can I have my screen rotate automatically as I hold my iPad in either portrait or landscape AND hear sounds from my apps at the same time?
Yes, you can. You can configure the Side Switch (above the volume button) either as Mute switch or Rotation lock.
Settings > General > Use Side Switch to: choose what you like the Side Switch to function as.

  • IPhone 5, Is there a way to stop screen rotation for specific apps?

The automatic screen rotation feature is useful - sometimes, and just plain annoying other times.  I prefer to read my e-mail in portrait mode, however the slightest movement or rotation while doing so will cause the screen to rotate (with the phone generally still in portrait position).  I then have to shake the phone to get it to rotate back.  This is very annoying.
I would like to be able to lock the screen rotation for only a single app (e.g. mail) while still keeping it active for the camera, or videos.  Many of the book programs that I use, have this feature built-in, however this question is for apps that do not have this built-in.
The built in rotation lock is all-or-nothing, and is generally a pain to use.  It adds another step to just about everything I do (If I read mail, then want to view a video, I have to go back and unlock it).
Is there a way to lock the screen rotation for a specific app?

I would have expected this function to be available in settings where the application specific settings are located.  (At least for the major applications like e-mail).

  • What's going on with ios8... Screen rotate does not work anymore, wifi doesn't work very well anymore and apps are crashing or running slow... Come on Apple sort this mess out

ssince I updated my iPhone 5s to ios8 ive had nothing but problems...
first the the screen rotation is not working... Checked the settings and  lock is off.... The wifi is intermittent, some times it works sometimes it doesn't....
the he iPhone is really slow now, like really labouring.... It hangs and crashes all the time.... I have to close apps down completely because they won't work from quick launch anymore.... Even writing this the phone is labouring.... It's like my old 48k spectrum.... I don't expect this from Apple and when you spend £400-500 on a phone you expect it to work and play propperly....  come on Apple you need to sort out this mess of a update.... Ios 7 was no bother......

Same issue here... iphone5S 64GB.  It's intermittent.  Sometimes the rotation works fine, sometimes it doesn't, but most of the time it doesn't work.
The first time I figured out it wasn't working was when all newly-taken photos and videos were showing up in portrait mode though I always hold in landscape mode when photographing.
Rotation lock is disabled (tried toggling it on and off).  Tried recalibrating the compass on a whim, no effect (although my compass seems to always require calibration when it's launched now).
This issue only started happening after upgrading to iOS8.  I did a reset/restore through iTunes rather than an OTA upgrade.
UPDATE - power-cycling the phone seems to fix it temporarily.

  • After updating to iOS 8.3, seem like the wifi signal got worst. The screen rotation is still as bad

sseem like the updates which were pushed didn't do any much hel, the wifi signal was even weaker than before, at times I will be totally disconnected from my home wifi.
And the screen rotation... i don't see any difference to it.

Mine won't even rotate now. So I have not scientific calculator. Apple support recommends backup and restore.

iOS software used to be so bullet proof, but iOS 8 is a dog. It's like working with windows. I wish I could downgrade. My wife's phone is at iOS 6 and I'm leaving it there. it works better than mine.

How to mute and lock screen rotation at the same time? Loved this feature in iOS 5.

You cannot do two different simultaneous VISA writes over a serial bus. There is a single rx line on the pc's com port and a single rx line on the instrument. You only hope is if the instrument allows you to chain commands and the reception of the carriage return triggers the instrument to implement both at the same time. Maybe you can send CTS01 and CTS02 separated by a space or comma. The manual should tell you if that's possible or maybe you need to ask the manufacturer.

  • Screen Rotation on a B&W G3

    Hey everyone,
I have a great Dell FP1901 Monitor that supports portrait mode (it swivels 90 degrees easily) and I've heard that Tiger supports it natively.
Anyway, I have the latest version of Tiger: 10.4.8 and I still cannot get the screen rotation option. Does the typical video card on the B&W G3 not support screen rotation? I have the ATI Rage 128 or whatever is the normal card that comes with the B&W G3s.
Let me know what I have to do - since this would be a feature I would get a TON of use out of, being a web designer.
    Thanks!
    Tim

From what I understand the monitor has nothing to do with the rotation of the screen. For example my NEC Laptop running Windows XP can rotate the screen, as it can on my external 19" TFT Targa Visionary monitor. There is nothing special about either screen, or the drivers used (Plug & Play). The screen rotation is handled by the Intel graphics driver. The fact that you can easily physically rotate your screen is irrelevant to the way the graphics card draws to it.
Now I think about it, Tiger supports screen rotation on some graphics cards. What does my NEC Laptop and some Macs have in common? An integrated Intel 9xx GMA graphics card.
As Apple did not mention any specific monitor requirements on the page I already cited I would surmise from this that it is your graphics card that does not support the screen rotation and rather than being computationally expensive the rotation is handled by the graphics card (by simply changing the order it reads from it memory for conversion in the DAC).
So to concur with your assumptions: 1. Your graphics card seems not to support screen rotation.
I am unaware of a 3rd party PCI card based on the Intel 9xx GMA, nor do I know of a Mac compatible PCI ATI card which would allow you to rotate the screen in Tiger.
Not that it helps with your particular setup but I would put money on your Dell monitor working perfectly with a shiny new Mac mini.
    Hope that helps.
    Jason.

  • How to turn off screen rotation on itouch 5

I just upgraded to a 32 bit iTouch 5 and was wanting to know how to turn off the screen rotation when I'm playing music. I have the shake to shuffle off (great feature!) but would like to turn off the screen rotation. I just find that to be annoying (to me anyway)...how do I do this on the 5?

Pull up the Control Center and lock the screen rotation. Tap the arrowed-circled padlock on the right side to toggle

  • Screen rotation not working in iso 5.0.1 ver

Screen rotation is not working in ios 5.0.1 ver in ipad2 with 3g please help

Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If so, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
If there isn't a lock symbol then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • IPhone 6 Plus screen rotate glitch

Has anyone noticed that the home screen doesn't rotate and the native mail app doesn't switch to 2 columns IF you have the phone set on the "zoomed" view vs. the standard view?
Try it... set your iPhone 6 Plus to zoomed view (Settings > Display & Brightness > View > Zoomed).  Does your home screen rotate?  Do you have two columns in mail when you rotate to landscape?
Hopefully Apple sends out a bug patch a.s.a.p.  I like using the "Zoomed" view, but don't like that it hinders the screen rotate function of the home screen and native mail app.
    Anyone else notice this?

I also found that the two column view is only works in standard view. I just got my iPhone 6+ a couple of days ago. What are the advantages of the zoomed view?
