Assign Ringtone to "Unknown Callers"

One of the features I miss from my Treo was the ability to have a specific ringtone for callers who were not in my contacts. Anyone know if / how to do this on iPhone. They appear to have it backwards in that I can assign a ringtone to callers in my contacts, but not a default ringtone for unknown callers.

I think you know the working solution at this point. Assign a ringtone to EVERY entry in your Contacts, but keep one ringtone reserved and unassociated with any Contact. Make that ringtone your overall default.
And of course, assign ringtones to every new contact as you add them. Yep, icky - but it would work.
Better yet - use the feedback link above and ask for a 'ringtone for numbers not in Contacts' category to be added to the Phone Settings area.

Does anyone know how to assign a ringtone to "blocked callers"? I have songs/tones assigned to various contacts, but would like to assign to blocked callers (i.e. my work)

It can not be done. The reason Caller ID displays "Blocked" is because the caller has explicitly decided to block their number from being transmitted over the caller ID system. Without a number, it is not possible for the phone to match the string received with a phone number in a contact.
Only your carrier can block these calls. Contact them and see if they offer this service.

Is it possible to change my default ringtone for unknown caller/sender (unknown means not define on your phonebook or contacts).
So, when unknown caller/sender calls/sends a message the assigned ringtone (downloaded mp3, not builtin tone) would play.

I´m pretty sure it is not possible to assign any kind of ringtone to an "unknown caller", but what you could do is assign ringtone#1 to all contacts (manually of course) and set the default ringtone to ringtone#2. See what I mean? I know it is a lot of work...but I guess it´s the only way...

Call filter no longer blocking "Unknown" callers a...

The feature that blocks withheld numbers was blocking "Unknown" callers on GDR2. However, it does not block them in GDR3.
I believe these are international calls.

When you say it's ok on yours, how do you know? Are you getting the same type of calls as I show in my screenshot?

Anonymous calls, Unknown Callers and 10 number limit on call blocking feature

I have FIOS Digital Voice. I hope that someone can give me information to help me out - because like many others here, right now I am regretting having this and have it unplugged more than plugged in - for a service I am paying for.
My number is unlisted.
In my account I have it checked to reject anonymous calls. However, I am still getting calls that are "unknown callers" and "unavailable" numbers. So, if I have it set to reject these calls why am I still receiving them.
Also, why is there such a low limit of adding blocked phone numbers to your account? It is almost like a part-time weekly job to rotate through all the numbers adding new ones, deleting old ones - and they are able to do this much easier, quicker, and they are getting paid, while I am the one paying for this service - which isn't working.
Can anyone let me know why the unknown callers are still getting through and if there is a way to add more than 10 numbers to the blocked list?
As it is, my home phone is unplugged because it has become a useless payment unless this can be addressed.

BTW - Are the web/tech guys aware that when you are signed into your account, if you click on "support" from the top menu for "phone", it takes you to a completely different area and asks you to sign in again - but if you click on the "support from the left menu for "phone" it takes you where you need to go. But the website is a whole other can of worms.

I just updated my SE Live with walkman (WT19i) with Android ICS 4. After updation its working fine.
But, I am not able to assign ringtone to any contact. It always shows as default ring tone.

Pixi able to have diffrent ringtones for different callers??

So after about 4 years I finally had to get rid of my trusty Treo 650. I went with the Pixi and just got it a few hours ago. So far I like the phone, but have not been able to figure out how to set up different ringtones for different callers. I am on call with my work and having a distinct ringtone for when work calls me is super important (they showed up as NO CALLER ID on the 650 if that helps figure this out) . Also it was nice having a few other distinct ringtones so I knew right away who was calling and made it easier to decide if I wanted to take the phone out of my pocket to talk to them. So I guess long story short:
1. Does the Pixi support distinct ringtones for different callers?
2. If so where do I set that up?
3. If not does anyone have any idea if this will be something that can/will be addressed in an upcoming software update?

You can set up each one of your contacts with a ringtone and use the default for all other unknown numbers. There is no way to set up a ringtone for unknown numbers.

Ringtone problem, assigned ringtones not working

I realized that the phone would not ring assigned ringtones. I made numerous phone calls to tech support and spent hours with them troubleshooting this problem. We tried everything
When your ATT account has caller ID block, in order to unblock the number so people can see your phone number you have to enter *82 in front of the phone number in contacts. In one of the first conversations I had with tech support I believe I mentioned this and was told that it should not cause a problem.
_**It does,_ if there is anything at all besides the phone number under the contact the phone will not recognize that the number has an assigned ring tone.
Also if you have the same number in contacts twice for any reason, (maybe a contact and under favorites) you have to delete the duplicate or assign the desired ringtone to all contacts. Otherwise the phone will ring the default ringtone, not the one you assigned.
I hope this helps someone not to have to spend hours workig on this problem

It sounds like you have assigned ringtones to some of your contacts, but the customized tones aren't playing, and instead you get a default ring when they contact you. Any number of things can cause that issue, so I would recommend starting by quitting all the open apps on your phone, and then restarting it:

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.

Assigned ringtones not working

I have a 3gs (AT&T). Assigning a specific ringtone (whether custom or default with the phone) does not work. I have created a custom ringtone and can choose is as the default for all calls and it works fine as do any of the ringtones listed under sounds. I just cannot successfully assign a specific ringtone to a specific contact. Have reset; checked for duplicates; scoured the internet and found nothing that works. The phone software is current. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I found that the Task Manager by Rhythm Software was responsible for causing this problem. I removed the Task Manager and restarted my phone, and now I do not have a problem with assigned ringtones.

Lose assigned ringtones when I sync with DM 2.0.1

When I sync my BB Curve 9330 with the DM 2.0.1 for Mac, I lose assigned ringtones to my contacts. SO frustrating. What am I doing wrong?

It is common knowledge that if the same ringtone is assigned to more than one contact, then none of them play the assigned ringtone - rather fall back to a default tone.
I have N97 and like everyone I assign different ringtones to diff contacts - occasionally changing them when one tone gets boring from prolonged use.
With many contacts and many ringtones sometimes it becomes difficult to remember which ringtone has been assigned to whom - duplicates occur and become difficult to trace.
In my previous N73 M(s60v3) I had a app called "mobilesearch" which among other functions, could search the phone content and find ringtones assigned to contacts - the search result would display the contact name and the ringtone assigned to it - but the built in search app in N97 is unable to do this.
I have to open each contact individually > go to details > scroll down to ringtone details - to locate the ringtone assigned.
Can anyone suggest me to do this in a more easy & efficient way - or can tell me if there is any application available for s60v5 touch phone - like the "mobilesearch" I had mentioned.

I know more about portal search than about content server, but I believe CS indexes items only when they are published to a portlet. I'm not sure if there is any way to change this behavior. Perhaps you could publish the items to a portlet that isn't displayed?

Unknown callers i phone 6

I get all these unknown callers now, never had them on my iphone 5 but this iphone 6 gets them
now I got a text message from ATT saying that I have used all my rollover minutes 700 minute plan that only takes minutes from land lines not cell phones they are supposed to be FREE. I found out that the unknown coming on iphone 6 counts as used minutes even if they come from a cell.
BUT HERES THE KICKER IF CALLERS LEAVE VOICE MAIL ID PRINTS THEIR NUMBER.
SO ATT SAYS NOT THEIR FAULT......HOPEFULLY MY BILL WONT BE 500.00 IN JANUARY 2015
