Assign Swtich Port Descriptions based on CDP, LLDP, or some type of Hostname Information

Hey guys,
I was wondering, is there a way to automatically change/assign the port Descriptions on my Cisco switches based upon information pulled from CDP or LLDP, or some type of hostname, that will go out, pull what device is plugged into that port, and insert description information about that device into the Port Description for that particular port that the device is plugged into?

Pushing Port Descriptions based on Client changes using PI2.0

Is it possible to write a template or job in PI to catch a trap for a client change on a wired network and push an interface description to the related interface based on that change ? For example, 802.1x client authenticates to port fa0/13 on switch1, trap is sent to prime (assuming one can be sent) prime runs a configuration template to update the description on that port with the 802.1x name of the client that authenticated ?
I can think of a few ways to do this using perl and snmp but am hoping that there is a way to do this with PI.

Prime can sense the TRAP but based on traps prime automatically create or push configuration template is not possible as far as I know.

CER Use port description as port location

Hello all,
I am trying to confirm if this "feature" is as useless as I have found it to be. From my testing and what little documentation I can find when checking the "Use port description as port location" check box on the LAN switch details screen this will ONLY show you this information when looking at the switch port details screen. It DOES NOT actually use the switch port description as location information for the 911 call notifications.
My hope was that by checking this check box the switch port description would override the ALI location information configured within the ERL assigned to the switch port that the phone is connected to. This would allow the creation of one ERL/ALI per building say and the device specific room level information would simply come from the switch port description. With out this option a ERL/ALI has to be created for every room in the building.

There's absolutely no problem in choosing 8888 as admin port while installing IWS in solaris Environment. Just make sure u follow these steps while installation:
(1)You should choose a random number for the administration server to make it harder for anyone to breach your server.
(2) Make sure the port you choose isn't in use. Look at the file /etc/services on the server machine to make sure you don't assign a port number that is reserved for another service. If you choose a port that is being used by another service, the installation program prompts you for another port.
(3)Note :If you choose a server port number lower than 1024, you must be logged in as root to start the server. After the server is bound to the port, the server changes from the root user account to the user account you specify. If you choose a port number greater than 1024, you don't have to be the root user to start the server.

Automatic assignment of Support Team based on processor

We have a help desk team creating Service Desk messages directly into SOLMAN (not from satellite system) using transaction NOTIF_CREATE and assigning processor. After they save the message, they open the message again in transaction CRM_DNO_MONITOR and change the Support Team manually based on the processor's Support Team. They are requesting if
the assignment of Support Team can be done automatically based on the processor assigned during creation of message and
when processor is changed/re-assigned after message has already been created.
I've read some suggestions in the blogs and forums that partner determination can be done by creating your own BADI.
So I've created a new BADI "Z_FIND_TEAM" (copied from BADI CRM_DNO_PARTNER_1) and commented the logic which derives the support team based on the rule in transaction PFAC, and replace this with my own logic of getting the processor's Support Team. Then I assign this to the action. When I tested the action during creation of message (NOTIFCREATE), the action failed to get the support team because the CRM documents (where I'm getting the processor) is not created yet at the time that the BADI is executed.
I also tested the same action (but I didn't schedule it to run automatically) during changing of message (in CRM_DNO_MONITOR). The action successfully assign the correct Support Team when I already saved the new processor before choosing the action.
But if I change the processor and do not save first before choosing the action, the support team of the old processor is assigned.
In both cases, I need to get the value of the processor in the screen and pass this to the BADI.
Can anyone help me how to pass the screen value of processor to the BADI.
Or do you have other suggestions on how I can automatically assign the Suport Team based on processor.

I've already tried assigning some standard access sequence in the support team's partner determination although the assignment of the support team always returns with the BP of the top organization unit in our org chart that's why I tried using the BADI afterwards.
Our org chart is defined something like :
IMS Support Team org unit
      Help Desk org unit
           Person 1
      Functional Team org unit
           Person 2
      Technical Team org unit
           Person 3
I've tried access sequence like "Organizational Data: Employee for an Org. Unit" and "Organizational Data: Organizational Unit for a User", but when I test this the support team is always defaulted with the "IMS Support Team's" BP Number (the top org unit).
I'm not sure which access sequence I can use to assign the support team, for example, processor = "person3", the support team should be "Technical Team".
Or do I need to create my own access sequence?
I'm not familiar with these access sequence and not really sure how it works.

Ap 3700 PoE with PSE that does not support CDP/LLDP power Negotiation

We run into a problem when AP 3700 is connected to an 802.3at PSE
that only supports physical event classification as compliant to 802.3at standard for PSE,
but does not support CDP/LLDP power negotiation.
AP 3700 (I believe the firmware version does not matter much) cannot get enough power after not receiving any CDP/LLDP power negotiation packet. (get no more than 15W power although PSE supports 30W.)

And is there any special configuration on AP3700 side like disabling CDP/LLDP power negotiation to make it to work with such power injector, and what is the command if there is any?

LOAD BALANCE (CSS) and Portal Port Number based on Instance Number

My doubt is about LOAD BALANCE (CSS) and Portal Port Number based on Instance Number.
I have to install 3 servers machines and 2 servers databases cluster. There will be a HIGH AVAILABILITY environment. There will be a MIGRATION and UPGRADE.
Today there are 2 servers machines in Windows NLB. Today my production Portal is 6 6.20.
Once, I did something for LABORATORY TEST. Migration (6 6.40) and Upgrade (7.0)in two other machines. But they were with Windows NLB. When I did the installation, for each server machine and during the instalation I had to give one Instance Number for each and in result there was a different Port Number for each.
But I accessed both machines throught a virtual url(dns) with a specific port number. And it works!
NOW, with a HARDWARE LOAD BALANCE _ CSS I don't know how to do.
A guy who works with it tell us that couldn't redirect one Port Number for different port numbers. He couldn't configure the CSS like this.
My question is: Is he write? And if he is, there is a way to give the same instance number for my 3 new Portal servers machines? Example: 5(02)00.
Could you understand?

I have used F5 for load balancing, I am sure you can do the same with CSS. Yes, you can configure a virtual IP on the load balancer with standard ports (80 or 443) and load balancing the traffic to multiple servers with different ports. You can have different ports for each instance.

SQL Server 2012 - 3 SQL clustered instances - one default/ two named instances - how assign/should assign static ports for named instances

We have two physical servers hosting 3 SQL 2012 clustered instances, one default instance and two named instances.
The default instance is using port 1433 and the two named instances are using dynamic port assignment.
There is discussion about assigning static port numbers to the two named clustered SQL instances.
What is considered best-practice? For clustered named instances to have dynamic or static ports?
Are there any pitfalls to assigning a static port to a named instance that is a cluster?

In SQL server the default instance has a listener which listens on the fixed port which is TCP port 1433. And for the named instance the port on which the SQL server listens is random and is dynamically selected when the named instance of the SQL server
starts.
For Standalone instance of the SQL server we can change the dynamic port of the named instance to the static port by using SQL server configuration manager as other post, however, in case of the cluster, when we change the port no. of the named instance
to the static port using the method described above, the port no. again changes back to the dynamic port after you restart the services. I recommend you changing the Dynamic port of the SQL Server to static port
on all the nodes , disabling and enabling the checkpointing to the quorum.

'set port description' command in CatOS 8.4

We've upgraded to CatOS 8.4 to get ssh few month ago. I haven't noticed until now that there is a 'set port description' command. It still has 'set port name' command to name the ports, but not sure what 'set port description' command does. Looked for the command in the Cisco reference guide and the command is missing from the list.
For one, it doesn't change the port name as 'set port name' does. I suspect it could supply port information for snmp polls. Anyone know what this command is for?

Hmmm, interesting.
I looked it up in the command lookup tool and nothing comes back.
Found a reference to it here which to me says its the same as the "set port name" command but as you say it doesn't work!

SQL access to interface port descriptions or via radius request?

Does anyone know how to include port descriptions within a radius request or of a database that I can pull the information from a Using a SQL statement. We have Cisco CER, Cisco works, Cisco prime or am looking to populate my own database. Thanks

Keep in mind that the objective of any Virtual COM Port Driver is to mimic a native com port. If you ever run into the situation where the native com port works, but your converter's com port doesn't, you should contact the manufacturer. This of course refers to calls to the Windows serial API, direct writes to memory are not included in this statement.

A client can be assigned a QoS profile based on its identity, through AAA, but how?

You need a RADIUS server.
Make sure the AAA override is enabled on the WLAN then try to use the folloiwng RADIUS attribute on the RADIUS server:
RADIUS-Cisco Airespace -> Airespace-QOS-Level
return the value of the QOS level in this attribute to the usres based on their identity.

Assigning static port address

Hello All,
We are having a standalone BOE server. I have a doubt about assigning static port addresses to servers. We had a standard deployment of BusinessObjects 4.0 SP2. Our admin has assigned static request port address to APS, CMS, FRS, Crystal report servers and Dashboard server instead of using "Auto assign".
Does it necessary to assign static port address to these servers and does it necessary to open these ports on firewall?
What are the advantages of assigning static port address instead of using "Auto assign"?
As per my understanding, request port of APS, FRS and other servers are used to communicate those with CMS. And CMS and all other servers are hosted on the same server. Then why do we need to open those ports on firewall in a server.
Appreciate your help and suggestions.

Hi,
if you dont have a Firewall in between your Client PCs and the BOE Server you dont need to assign static ports. You only need this if a Firewall is controlling the communication between these two parts.
Most of the Services communicate only with the CMS - thats correct.
But if you use the BI LaunchPad only for vieweing and creating Reports like WebI you need to open the Port 8080 for the Application Server.
If you are using Front- End Clients for viewing and or editing Reports you need to open the CMS Port 6400 and assign a static Port to the IFRS and OFRS and open these ports too.

If you assign songs a rating an unrated album gets an automatic rating, which you can override by rating it.
If you assign an album a rating unrated songs get an automatic rating, which you can override by rating them.
iTunes doesn't import ratings from tags, or third party services. You set them.
You can't turn automatic ratings off.

How do I assign a css class based on spry data?

I need to assign a css class based on the value of spry data. IOW - I need to do a calculation on two values and assign a class to that <tr> if the resulting value if > 0. Is it possible to plug spry data into php? Is there a better way to go about doing this? Spry may have a function that will hide or style data based on the value of that data, but I can't find it.
