Assigned ringtone to contact doesn't play!!!

I have set a ringtone for my wife's cell phone to play and when she calls the default ringtone plays instead of the one I assigned to her contact. What can I do to make sure the ringtone I assigned to her contact plays?

You are are right, what happened was that when I activated the phone about a month ago it came with firmware 1.0.2. Somehow, my wife's cell played an assigned ringtone. Then as soon as I updated the firmware it disappeared. I understand the logic behind caller ID, if the phone can't recognize who is calling how can it play the assigned ringtone? It could have been ATT, who knows, I will definitely put it to rest, or people here are going to start thinking I lost my mind. Thanks for taking time to address this issue, I do love the phone and think that it's an outstanding device. I have been waiting for a phone I could sync my contacts with my Mac, do internet, play ringtones, etc...that wasn't Windows related.

  • Need help assigning ringtone to contact

I have followed all the instructions regarding assigning a ringtone to a contact, but when that individual calls, the phone uses the default ringtone. How do I get this to work?

help helpArrays in Java are static, meaning their size cannot change once they've been created. Somewhere in your code you need to declare the String array like this,
String[] costumer = new String[10];Now customer has 10 elements (room for 10 strings) and you can do for example this,
    int z = 0;
costumer[z] = "string1" + "string2";This means the two strings are added and assigned to element 0 of the array.
If you can't take it from here you need to step back for a while and carefully study a beginners textbook on Java.

  • How do I assign ringtones to contacts on the iPhone 5s I tried going to contacts and the edit but it did not work

I tried going to contacts and then to edit but although it shows the desired ringtone it does not work and I still get the default tone

Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • Assigned ringtones won't play

For several weeks now all my contacts with assigned ringtones (both those that came with the phone and those that I bought) won't play. Even though the contact shows an assigned ringtone, the default actually plays. I re-synched the phone and turned it off and on, but they still won't play. This was a problem for a while with my first iPhone, but only recently started with my 3Gs that I've had for about 6 months.

This is a long one; perhaps a bit confusing, but here goes.
The text/instructions within the asterisks is copied from another post to Apple Discussions:
If your MobileMe email account settings were successfully transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, which is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences, you don't need to keep this option selected. Deselecting this under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by selecting Apply will not remove the email account from your iPhone with the next sync.
If you are syncing contacts over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone and you have Sync Contacts selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, this is not necessary and does nothing but duplicate the contacts on your iPhone.
Deselect Sync Contacts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences along with deselecting Sync Email Accounts followed by selecting Apply.
On your iPhone go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select your MobileMe account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. This will delete the contacts downloaded from your MobileMe online address book and you will be prompted to keep the contacts stored locally on your iPhone. Decline this prompt and wait a minute or two for your MobileMe online contacts to be deleted from your iPhone. This will not delete the contacts synced direct with the Address Book on your computer via the iTunes sync process.
Turn Contacts back on for over the air syncing. You will be prompted to merge your MobileMe online contacts with the contacts stored locally on your iPhone. Select Merge. This will remove the duplicates.
I followed these instructions on 09Feb. After doing so, when, on the iPhone, I went to Contacts, it showed Groups at the top and All Contacts plus all my groups under that. Tap All Contacts and the next screen came up with all my contacts, with no dupes.
About 8 hours later, computer displayed a window which said something to the effect that I had to replace the Contacts on my Mobileme account. Did I want to copy the accounts from the computer on which the window was displayed or another account. Since that account had an accurate Address Book, I chose to copy those Contacts to MobileMe. This worked; MobileMe has an accurate list of my Contacts.
On my original post, I said when I go to my iPhone > Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > (scroll down to Contacts) > Default Account, I am offered two choices for that Default Account: [email protected] OR On My iPhone.
This is no longer true: when I now go to my iPhone > Settings > Mail,Contacts, Calendar, the major headings (the ones in gray print on a gray background) are now Accounts, Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Under Contacts are Sort Order and Display Order.
I continue to be able to assign Ringtones to individual Contacts and they all work.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • The specific ringtone I assigned to a contact is not working. Only the default ringtone sounds off.

I'm using an iPhone 5s. The app I'm using on my iPhone is simply titled Ringtones with an orange music note inside a grey circle. I have assigned certain app created ringtones to specific contacts. However when one of those contacts calls me ONLY the main / general / default ringtone sounds off. I know the tones work because if they are assigned as the default ringtone that specific tone plays. I have tried other ringtones that were included on the iPhone (NOT app created) and those work when assigned to contacts. So it seems it's only the app created ringtones are not working when assigned to specific contacts. So far I've tried to correct the problem by:
    1) Removing ringtones from phone and then downloading them again.
    2) I've tried rebooting or performing a soft reset (pressing and holding the home button & power button until the apple logo appears).
    Anyone have any other suggestions?

  • My iphone 4s doesn't play sound out loud but the ringtone works....

    Hello,
Thanks in advance for any advice / help you can give me.
My iphone 4s doesn't play sound out loud, but my ringtone works. Music & videos also play with the headphones in, but if I want to watch a video or listen to music without headphones it will not make a sound, even though these things display they are playing on the screen.... does anyone have any ideas.
I have rebooted etc but that hasn't worked
    Thanks

Have you looked at the Ring/Silent switch on the side of the device?  It may have been moved to the Silent position.

  • Incoming calls doesn't play customed ringtone

i managed to make customed ringtone with iTune and sync the customed ringtone to iPhone. I assumed it went fine as the ringtone showed (and I could play the ringtone) in the settings-->general-->sons ringtone list. I checked that it has already been set as default rigntone. But, when an incoming call is on, it is not the selected custom ringtone, but one in the standard ringtone list.
    what has gone wrong?
    thanks.

My understanding of this issue is that it has more to do with the caller ID signal from the local tower when the call is received than a problem with the phone. I've noticed that I get custom ringtones most of the time but not ALL the time.

  • Why wont assigned ringtones work after downloading the newest OS on iPhone 4

I have had ringtones assigned to my contacts and they no longer work after I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. It plays the default ringtone Marimba rather than playing the ringtone file assigned. I've tried reassigning them and it doesn't work.

Deselect in iTunes, sync. When finished, select tones and sync again.

  • Assigned ringtones with image doesnt work together...

hello, could someone help on my new nokia 5800, while using the image (stored n tranferred frm pc by reducing the required size) I cant hear the spl ringtone assigned to the same contact. Though if i use nokia inbuilt images (came with the set) or dont use any image, I can hear the spl ringtone assigned to the contact as well as the image.
    cheers!!

Problem solved. I got my 5800xm six days ago and just figured the problem with my ring tones. Its very easy just go to your contacts and set the numbers as they appear when someone calls you I am from Trinidad but in my contacts I had the numbers starting with *31# and then the persons number because in Trinidad with bmobile if you block your phone's number  from the settings you can just use *31# in front the persons number & it will show. My wife just called me and the ringtone played so I wondered how come so I checked the number & notice it was the same work # she called me from yesterday and I saved it not having time to put *31# in front of it .In my contacts I had the number but with *31# in front of it for eg I had in my contacts *31#7566766 the # I save was the same but it appeared on my phone as 8687566766 and thats how I solved the problem It's just your Country code in front the numbers in the contacts so now I put *31#8687566766 and it works with no problems (In Trinidad our country code is 868). Or if not just put the numbers you see when someone calls you its that easy.

  • Ringtone problem, assigned ringtones not working

I realized that the phone would not ring assigned ringtones. I made numerous phone calls to tech support and spent hours with them troubleshooting this problem. We tried everything
When your ATT account has caller ID block, in order to unblock the number so people can see your phone number you have to enter *82 in front of the phone number in contacts. In one of the first conversations I had with tech support I believe I mentioned this and was told that it should not cause a problem.
_**It does,_ if there is anything at all besides the phone number under the contact the phone will not recognize that the number has an assigned ring tone.
Also if you have the same number in contacts twice for any reason, (maybe a contact and under favorites) you have to delete the duplicate or assign the desired ringtone to all contacts. Otherwise the phone will ring the default ringtone, not the one you assigned.
I hope this helps someone not to have to spend hours workig on this problem

    Hey there Taralynn7,
It sounds like you have assigned ringtones to some of your contacts, but the customized tones aren't playing, and instead you get a default ring when they contact you. Any number of things can cause that issue, so I would recommend starting by quitting all the open apps on your phone, and then restarting it:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • Search for assigned ringtones in phone content (co...

    Hi,
It is common knowledge that if the same ringtone is assigned to more than one contact, then none of them play the assigned ringtone - rather fall back to a default tone.
I have N97 and like everyone I assign different ringtones to diff contacts - occasionally changing them when one tone gets boring from prolonged use.
With many contacts and many ringtones sometimes it becomes difficult to remember which ringtone has been assigned to whom - duplicates occur and become difficult to trace.
In my previous N73 M(s60v3) I had a app called "mobilesearch" which among other functions, could search the phone content and find ringtones assigned to contacts - the search result would display the contact name and the ringtone assigned to it - but the built in search app in N97 is unable to do this.
I have to open each contact individually > go to details > scroll down to ringtone details - to locate the ringtone assigned.
Can anyone suggest me to do this in a more easy & efficient way - or can tell me if there is any application available for s60v5 touch phone - like the "mobilesearch" I had mentioned.
    Please!

I know more about portal search than about content server, but I believe CS indexes items only when they are published to a portlet. I'm not sure if there is any way to change this behavior. Perhaps you could publish the items to a portlet that isn't displayed?

  • Assigning Ringtones en masse

    Looking for workarounds.
I just got an iPhone. I have ringtones that I wish to assign to people. I have over 100 contacts whom I want all to have the same ringtone, all labeled in a certain manner (XYZ A Abram, XYZ B Brach, XYZ C Chimp).
Is there any way of doing this more quickly than scrolling through and editing each contact in the iPhone? Basically, I want each contact labeled XYZ to be assigned ringtone 123. I'm willing to do this manually on my computer, it doesn't have to be an automated process, but I'm far less willing to do it solely on the iPhone.
I'm not a big syncing guy, and I don't know which programs will help. What I wouldn't give for the ability to XML out the iPhone contact list. Edit it, then zip it back into the iPhone.
    Thanks,
    -R
