Assigning JMS message in BPEL: The result is empty for the XPath expression

Hi,
My project, an Oracle BPEL 11g project, is reading an XML payload from a JMS queue. I would like to transform the message and assign the elements of the messages to other variables. But when I am doing that in the "assign" step, it raises an error: Error in evaluate <from> expression at line "63". The result is empty for the XPath expression : "/ns2:publishProject/payload/Message".
Even though I can see the message payload in the Audit with all the values.
To me it looks like a name space issue, but I could not find out how to correct it. Any hint will be a big help. Please let me know if you want to check the .xsd for the message.

I publish a JMS message to a topic in one BPEL process and have another BPEL process read from the topic and start the flow. The problem I have is that the first process is writing fine to the topic, but the second process seems to be reading twice. I am seeing two instances of the second process in em.
Can anyone help? I am using JDev 11.1.1.1.0
Thanks

  • The result is empty for the XPath expression

    Hi friends
    Please, could anyone help-me with this issue? My BPEL process was working yesterday and stoped today...
    I think I´m facing a namespace problem.
    If I start my process using BPEL Console, filling the "HTML form" option, all works ok.
    If my process is started by a call from another bpel process, my XPath query gives me an error, but the 2 received messages are "almost" egual:
    Using BPEL Console:
    <RejectionMessage>
    <part name="message" >
    <RejectedMessage ns1:BatchId="" ns1:PrimaryKey="" ns1:RejectionId="invalid_msg_processName_token1_token2_token3" ns1:BatchInfo="" >
    <MessageHeader/>
    <MessagePayload/>
    <RejectionReason/>
    </RejectedMessage>
    </part>
    </RejectionMessage>
    Started by another BPEL Process:
    <RejectionMessage>
    <part name="message" >
    <RejectedMessage RejectionId="INVALID_MSG_BatchTest_Read_20060418_101233_0463" BatchId="" BatchInfo="" PrimaryKey="" >
    <MessageHeader/>
    <MessagePayload> AgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgIE1aIEpBSVJPUyAg MDYwMzA4MTAwMQ0K </MessagePayload>
    <RejectionReason> ORABPEL-11008</RejectionReason>
    </RejectedMessage>
    </part>
    </RejectionMessage>
    XPath Query:
    bpws:getVariableData('RejectionMessage','message','/ns2:RejectedMessage/@ns2:RejectionId')
    In the first case, it works.
    In the second case, it raises a "The result is empty for the XPath expression" error.
    As you can see, this process is used as a "Rejection Handler" process: It implements the interface defined in RejectionMessage.wsdl
    Could you help me?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi All
    I find a workaround to the problem. I´m almost sure it is a bug in BPEL.
    As you can see on my previous post, the diferences between the two messages is that the attributes have qualified names on one message and unqualified names on the other: ns1:BatchId, ns1:PrimaryKey...
    The schema definition for this message (JCAErrorHandling.xsd) define that attribute names MUST be qualified (attributeFormDefault="qualified"). The problem is that the File Adapter sends the message with unqualified attribute names!!
    So I edited JCAErrorHandling.xsd (<ORACLE_HOME>\integration\orabpel\system\xmllib\jca) file, changing it to attributeFormDefault="unqualified".
    The correct solution is to fix File Adapter to send the message with qualified names, so I´m opening a Service Request at Oracle Metalink.
    Thanks.

  • Namespace problem The result is empty for the XPath expression

    I have a problem with BPEL namespaces. The webservice that my BPEL process is using has changed namespaces (i.e. the java code package names changed and therefore the namespaces associated with the packages.)
    Before there was only one namespace associated with this web services; now there are multiple namespaces.
    I have changed the namespaces in my .bpel file; however I get the result is empty for XPath expression:
    /nsxml0:getMailResponse/nsxml0:getMailReturn/nsxml1:mailOut
    Any help appreciated...:(

    hey b-o-s-t-o-n,
    have your verified that the namespace import is correct, and with the right prefix
    you xpath contains 2 namespace prefixes
    /nsxml0:getMailResponse/nsxml0:getMailReturn/nsxml1:mailOut
    so check the bpel file and maybe the wsdl that has been generated (that inclused the plnk extensions for your external service)
    this is the most common issue ..

  • Result is empty error in XPath

    Hi,
    I am getting the following error coming from an "Assign" activity that copies from a child element of one variable (child of message type = M1) to another variable (which is of type element same as that of that child of M1).
    I am consistently getting the following error :
    "Error in evaluate <from> expression. The result is empty for the XPath expression .
    <<from element name>> "
    Does anyone know why ?
    Thanks

    That message usually occurs when you point to a non-existing child. When you're using child nodes, you'll have to make sure you're pointing to the right node, for example by using [position() = bpws.getVariableData('idx'), or using an XSLT with a 'for each'.
    Post the variable definition and the assign here, if  you need more input.
    Hth,
    Mike

  • Using the XPATH expression function in Transformation activity

    Hi,
    I have to map the variable value(other than the source variable) to one of the node in the target variable in the transformation activity. For that I am using the XPATH expression function bpws:getVariableData ('variableName') and map it to corrsponding target node. But this mapping is not at all happening. The same prolem occurs while using function ora:getInstanceID() in transformation function. Then I could find a metalink note id: 387381.1,saying it as the bug in 10.1.2.2 BPEL PM, which they are covering in the next release. But our BPEL PM version is 10.1.3.3. But still the same type of problem occurs.
    Please let me know, is there are any solution for using the ora:getInstanceID() , bpws:getVariableData in Transformation activity.

    Hi,
    I dont understand why would you need to use the "bpws:getVariableData" function.
    When you are mapping a source-node to a target-node, it usually assigns the value in the source-node to the target-node, which is as good as using the "bpws:getVariableData" function.
    So, technically speaking you need to use this function explicitly to achieve that ...
    Also, if you want the instance-id, you can use the "ora:getInstanceId()" directly in the BPEL code than using it in the transformation.

    Madhu.

    I developed a workflow. I builded and deployed successfully.
    And I assing this workflow to a policy.
    I create a request, but this request gave a fail.
    Error in <assign> expression: <to> value is empty at line "181". The XPath expression : "" returns zero node, when applied to document shown below:
    Line 181 :
    <copy>

    query="/ns3:process/ns4:RequestID"/>
    <to variable="initiateTaskInput" part="payload"
    query="/ns2:initiateTask/task:task/task:payload/task:RequestID"/>

    It seems that I could not take requestID.
    Do you have any idea ?

  • Using substring in the XPATH expression for Receiver Determination

    Hello, I need a little help please.  In my receiver determination, I have a condition and I need to do a "not like" check.   Basically, if the first three positions of the source field does not start with a specific code, then I need to execute the condition.   The condition editor does not support a "not like" operand, so I went to the XPATH expression editor.  I tried to used the XPATH substring function to get the first three characters and then do a "not equal" operand, but it doesn't appear to work.  There are not any runtime errors, but the condition is not executing.  Any ideas on this?  Does the XPATH expression support the substring function?

    Hi Jesse,
    Can you please explain what is the meaning of http:// in the statement
    /p1:PRODUCT/MATNRhttp://not(substring(.,string-length(.) - 2) = '123')
    Please explein, I am having same issue. It is not working here.In My case it is
    /p1:ORDERS01/IDOC/E1EDP01/E1EDP19/IDTNR[http://not(starts-with(.,\"D\"))]
    also tried with
    /p1:ORDERS01/IDOC/E1EDP01/E1EDP19/IDTNR[http://not(starts-with(.,'D'))]
    Thanks in advance!

  • Failed to initialize the XPath Expression Builder

    Any idea what causes this and/or how to fix it?
    When I am in the XPath Expression Builder, I pick "Conversion Functions" and start with "string". Inside the "string()" parentheses, I do "bpws:getVariableData()", and select my output variable from an invoke.
    Then it SHOULD allow me to continue picking parts of that variable, down to the node I want, but instead I see in my JDeveloper log that a "Failed to initialize the XPath Expression Builder" error has been thrown.
    Thoughts appreciated...

    Can any of you Oracle guys help with this today?

  • 1     Unable to retrieve the form values entered by the user from the xpath expression(with or without s

    1.1 Description of the Workflow
    We have designed a Workflow, which has an init form HighLevelQuestionnaire.
    1. The user attempts to start the workflow by submitting this form, which has an XML schema embedded.
    2. When user submits the data, we set workflow variables to fetch data from the init-form and all the values entered by the user are stored in the database.
    3. Based on the values, value of Risk Level is calculated to be either High or Medium, and user is routed to one of the two routes.
    4. The user QPAC is used to show the next form to the user.
    Another form has been designed called AssessRisk in which user is asked to confirm the Risk Level.
    5. At this point, we use Script QPAC to print the values in the log.
    1.2 Problem description
    1. In the Point No. 6 of the workflow, the values are not printed in the log. A blank space is printed instead.
    2. Initially, we embedded the schema in the form. But when values were not printed, we removed the schema. Even then it didnt work.
    1.2.1 User QPAC Specifications
    Properties of user QPAC used in Step 4 of the workflow
    Mappings Tab: -
    Input Variable --- No variable
    Template URL ----- Form11.xdp
    Output Variable ---- myform
    Myform is a form-variable, which has template URL as Form11.xdp
    1.2.2 Script QPAC
    1.2.2.1 With XML Schema embedded
    import com.adobe.workflow.pat.service.*;
    System.out.println("----------- High Level Questions -----------");
    System.out.println("--1- the RiskLevel is: " + patExecContext.getProcessDataStringValue("/process_data/myform/form-data/data/xdp/dataset s/data/RiskLevel/general/Risk_Level") + " @@@@@");
    Note:- Here RiskLevel is the schema root of myform and Risk_Level is the schema variable mapped with textfield on the form
    1.2.2.2 Without XML Schema embedded
    System.out.println("--1.1- the RiskLevel is: " + patExecContext.getProcessDataStringValue("/process_data/myform/form-data/data/xdp/dataset s/data/fields/Risk_Level") + " @@@@@");
    1.2.2.3 Conclusion
    In both the cases, a blank value is printed. In both the cases, we get some output which is when we use
    System.out.println("--1.1- the RiskLevel is: " + patExecContext.getProcessDataStringValue("/process_data/myform/form-data/data/xdp/dataset s/data ") + " @@@@@");
    In this case all the values are printed with space in between.
    This is the basic feature which has to be used while developing workflows.

    Hi
    You might want to try using VariableLogger, at:
    http://www.avoka.com/avoka/qpac_library.shtml
    It's a little more reliable than the script QPAC, especially if one of your xpath expressions is wrong.
    Please note that embedding the schema makes no difference in how the data from the form is stored. What makes the difference is whether your fields are bound to specify schema elements, or whether they use the "normal" binding.

  • JMS message compression: How do you verify that the message was compressed

    Is there any way to verify that a JMS message which exceeds the "Default Compression Threshold" setting for the connection factory has actually been compressed. Does WL add any JMS property or header to the message to indicate that it has been compressed?
    Thanks
    Aspi Engineer

    To my knowledge, please correct me if i am wrong, there not a property that indicates a message is compressed.
    But i do know that compression only occurs when message producers and consumers are located on separate server instances where messages must cross a JVM boundary, typically across a network connection when WebLogic domains reside on different machines.

  • Weblogic Message Bridge Producing Duplicate JMS Messages

    We have a message bridge that we use to integrate with TIBCO. The message bridge is deployed on a WL cluster. We see duplicate JMS messages produced by the bridge when it is deployed on the cluster. We don't see this behavior when only one ManagedServer in the cluster is active,.
    TIBCO version: 4.4.3 V5
    WLS: 10.3.3 with patch for bug BUG8732539 (BQC6)
    java -version
    java version "1.6.0_17"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
    Oracle JRockit(R) (build R28.0.0-679-130297-1.6.0_17-20100312-2121-linux-x86_64, compiled mode)
    We are also seeing a lot of exceptions related to
    <May 27, 2011 4:11:57 PM PDT> <Warning> <Connector> <BEA-190032> << eis/jms/WLSConnectionFactoryJNDIXA > ResourceAllocationException thrown by resource adapter on call to ManagedConnectionFactory.createManagedConnection(): "javax.resource.ResourceException: Failed to start the connection ">
    However the bridge is active. We are monitoring the message-out count on TIBCO and we observed that we see duplicates whenever there a message is re-delivered. We opened a case with Oracle support and they suggested patch 10258751 which didn't help. The next suggestion was a patch for "Bug 11852771 - [WLS10.3.2]MISSING AND DUPLICATE IN JMS QUEUE MESSAGE MONITORING" but I don't think it will help since our JMS consumers are getting duplicate messages and this is not just a UI issue.
    Here is the message behavior when we send a single message:
    Timelines
    11:34:17 --> Message sent to TIBCO EMS queue
    11:34:17 --> WL MS3 throws an javax.transaction.SystemException: start() failed on resource 'eis/jms/WLSConnectionFactoryJNDIXA': XAER_RMFAIL : Resource manager is unavailable exception
    11:34:17 --> WL MS1 says it got the message and committed the transaction
    11:34:17 --> Message is visible in the JMS queue in the admin console
    11:34:17 --> TIBCO EMS has still not received an ACK from WL for the message
    11:34:31 --> TIBCO EMS resends the same JMS message to WL
    11:34:31 --> WL MS2 says it got the message and committed the transaction

    @Tom, thanks for your hints and sorry for my delayed response. Here are my answers to your queries…
    -- Does messaging work, without any exceptions, when only one bridge is active?
    It works fine when only one node of the cluster is active. -- I'm not familiar with Tibco monitoring, but I suspect that the "message-out count on TIBCO" stat doesn't always imply that there's a duplicate message. It could mean that an initial message delivery attempt failed, it's transaction rolled back, and the message was redelivered. Redelivery after a failure is normal - the original delivered message, if one actually made it onto a WebLogic queue, should be discarded by WebLogic when its failed transaction eventually rolls back (before its ever handed to a consumer application).
    You are absolutely right. The mismatch in count was due to redelivery attempts. We could see that as soon as we turned on trace in TIBCO-- The posted stack traces look like they may be JVM stdout/stderr scrapes, which are often automatically truncated, for example, see the "... 8 more" listed at the bottom of one of the stack traces below. There might be more information in the full stack trace for the "Resource manager is unavailable" exception. Full traces are logged in each WebLogic Server's log files.
    I tried redirecting the output and even set "stdout Stack Trace Depth:" to -1 but I am not albe to see the complete trace.-- The setTransactionTimeout NullPointerException error message looks like it is collateral damage from the original reported "Resource manager is unavailable" exception that's thrown earlier during the enlistResource() step. If you are truly getting duplicates, then I think this is a clue that the bridge is somehow (stupidly) trying to proceed with forwarding the message despite the fact that there's no current transaction on the thread...

    I have a case open with Oracle support and we have extensive debugging turned on. Here is what the engineer came back with. There is an issue with XA transactions in JCA adapter when it talks to third party providers like TIBCO. Since the resource names are not unique across the cluster, a XA transaction is started on multiple nodes in the cluster for the same message. All transactions abort but the message is persisted and TIBCO redelivers the message since the connection is severed when the transaction aborts. We were able to reproduce this scenario at will with our setup and Oracle was able to reproduce the issue too.
-- Can you check the state of the message on the WebLogic Q? The fact that a message is shown on the WL console doesn't necessarily mean that the state of the message is visible (it could be waiting for the transaction to commit - something that apparently never happens). On the console: Services -> Messaging -> JMS Modules -> [module name] -> [destination name].

    Our consumer was getting duplicate messages. This confirms that the console was not giving us incorrect information. The console showed that 2/3/4 messages were in "current" state when we expected only one message.
-- Make sure that the bridge's Tibco destination is a Tibco queue not a Tibco topic (it's happened).

    Yeah we made sure it was a Queue.
-- Can you post your bridge and destination stanzas from your config.xml?

    Will try to do this shortly but have to strip out lot of information.
-- I vaguely recall that there was a problem with untyped connection factories in Tibco at one point (not sure). You might want to try changing the Tibco configuration to spin-up "XA Queue Connection Factory" instead of just an "XA Connection Factory" (plus modify the bridge configuration accordingly).

    We tried this but it didn't eliminate this issue. One thing we did notice however was that the number of rollbacks were greatly reduced.

    Here is the workaround that Oracle is suggesting: Create pinned destinations and assign it to a distributed queue. This will keep the transactions local and hence eliminate the duplicate transactions and rollback. We tried it and it eliminated the dups issue. However I discovered another bug during my testing. Our cluster messaging mode is "Unicast" and message forwarding from zero consumer queues to queues with consumers fails. We have four/five nodes in the cluster and two consumer threads. I observed that the zero consumer queues always forward to one queue in the cluster that has consumers. The forwarding stalls when I bring down the node that has consumers. Again, we were able to reproduce this issue at will and Oracle has acknowledged that it is a bug. They've reported that Unicast fails without any warning whereas Multicast fails with a warning in the log. We have observed this message forwarding stalling even with UDQs.
    I have another case open for an issue where our message bridges that transfer messages from TIBCO to WLS stalls after sometime. The status is shown as active but it is not doing anything. The server instance shows stuck threads trying to roll back a message. TIBCO logs indicate that it is receiving a request to rollback a transaction but it is not finding the transaction to rollback. The only way to recover from this condition is to restart the cluster. I am fairly confident that he root case for this issue is again the XA transaction issue. I changed our UDQ to pinned destination in one environment and we are no longer seeing dups or bridge stalling there. Hopefully Oracle can resolve the message forwarding issue.Thanks again….

  • How to send JMS Message from a BPM Process

    Hi All
    I have small query regarding sending JMS Message from a bpm process. Is it possible to send JMS message from one bpm process to another bpm process.
    I have a scenario in which I need to send a JMS message to a queue where another process is listening on that queue and as soon as the message is received on the queue the process instance is created.
    I know how to listen for the JMS message on the queue, but I don't how to send a JMS message from a process.
    Also Can I create process by sending the Notification to the process instead of a JMS message. But the process to be created is not a subprocess i.e. Can notification be send accross different processes.
    Any information or example in this regard would be helpful.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Here's one approach to sending JMS messages from an Oracle BPM process. If you're doing this just to send a message into another process, do not take this approach. It's far easier and quicker if you do this using the OOTB "send notification" logic.
    These steps describe how to do this using WebLogic. The steps would be different if you're using another ap server / JMS provider.
    1. Guessing you've already done this, but first expose the two required WebLogic jar files for JMS messaging as Java components in the External Resources. The two files for WebLogic are weblogic.jar and wljmsclient.jar” (located in the < WebLogic home directory > /weblogic/server/lib” directory).
    AquaLogic BPM JMS Queue Listener for WebLogic 8.1
    2. You've probably already done this, but add an External Resource to represent the J2EE container:
    • Name: “weblogicJ2EE” - this is important and will be used in the next step
    • Supported Type: “GENERIC_J2EE”
    • Initial Context Factory: “weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory”
    • URL: “t3://localhost:7001”
    • Principal: and Credentials: whatever userid and password you defined to access theWebLogic administrative console.
    3. Create the External Resource that represents the send queue configuration. In this example, I'm calling it “WebLogic Send Queue”. This is important - remember what you named it because you will use this name in the logic that sends the JMS message. This new External Resource is configured as:
    • J2EE: “weblogicJ2EE” (same name as the second External Resource you created)
    • Destination Type: “QUEUE”
    • Lookup Name: “weblogic.examples.jms.exampleQueue”
    • Connection Factory Lookup Name: “weblogic.examples.jms.QueueConnectionFactory”
    4. Here's the logic to send a Message to the Queue
    <pre class="jive-pre"><p />msg as String = "Hello World"
    jmsMsg as Fuego.Msg.JmsMessage
    msg = "<?xml version=\"1.0\"?><Msg>" + msg + "</Msg></xml>"
    jmsMsg = JmsMessage(type : JmsMessageType.TEXT)
    jmsMsg.textValue = msg
    sendMessage DynamicJMS
    using configuration = "WebLogic Send Queue",
    message = jmsMsg</pre>
    Note that the “sendMessage” method uses the configuration parameter “WebLogic Send Queue”. You previously created a JMS messaging service External Resource with this name in the third step.
    Again, please don't go this route if you're just using it to send notifications between processes,
    Dan

  • JMS Message Property

    Hello Experts,
    we have a JMS to JMS scenario. A third party system sends a message to the JMS Queue (JMS Provider is the J2EE SAP Web AS, XI system). Via JMS Message Selector (configured the JMS Sender Adapter) the right integrationprocess get the message.The integrationsprocess sends the message to another JMS Queue. Because the integrationprocess have lost the JMS Header information (message properties) we configured the JMS Sender Adapter and the JMS Receiver Adapter to copy message properties. Described under help.sap.com:
    you want to set additional JMS message attributes, select Specify Additional JMS Message Properties (Maximum of 10).
    ·        In the table, enter the names of the JMS message properties whose values are to be included in the message header of the XI message.
    The technical names of the additional attributes are DCJMSMessageProperty0, DCJMSMessageProperty1, ..., DCJMSMessageProperty9.
    You can enter more than 10 properties in the table, but only the first 10 are taken into account.
    The attribute namespace for the adapter is http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/JMS.
    I debug and saw that the message properties was sucessfully copied to the header (receiver queue). But now if I use another selector the message will not found. It doesn't work with a third party system and with SAP XI (I've created another integrationsprocess, to read the queue)
    Thanks very much, for your help.
    Regards,
    Jürgen

    Hi there,
    there is a way (and a section somewhere in the help) to set adapter specific attributes in java mappings.
    The java doc for that can be found here:
    https://help.sap.com/javadocs/NW04/current/pi/index.html
    Hope that helps sbd who also has that prob.
    Cheers,

  • Setting JMS Message header and properties in JMS Adapter ESB Component

    Hi,
    I am new to using some of these adapters in Oracle ESB and need some help.
    I am trying to define a JMS Publisher using JMS Adapter component in JDeveloper. I would like to publish messages with message property set to a topic. I dont find a way to do that.
    I see that for consuming JMS messages, the JMS Adapter allows to specify message selector but I could not find a way for producing message with a user defined message property. I would like to use that property in the message selector to filter messages and consume.
    I am using Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.3.x
    Can someone help please?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the response.
    I think I found the solution although I havent tried it out yet.
    ESB sample 110.JMStoJMSHeaders outlines the approach.
    It is my understanding that JMS Message selector can work on JMS header or JMS properties (user defined) but not on JMS body. (All the three constitue a JMS message). Hence the need to set a JMS property prior to publishing the message to a topic/queue.
    Thanks.
