Assigning Source System to an InfoSource

For some InfoSources I sometimes have problems when I try and transport Source System assignment and datasource assignment.
In the past I have just done this assignment on the respective systems.
Is there potential consequences of doing the assignment outside of a transport? Thanks

Hi Niten,
If the assignmnet is "in sync" with the other systems where it was orginally assigned then there should be any issues.
However the correct method (also recommended by SAP) is to transport the assignments.

Assign Source System to Source System ID

Hello Experts,
I am loading master data from flat file (which is an export from another BI system Info Object) in which one of the attribute is SourceSytem ID (0SOURSYSTEM). But in the flat file some of the records for this particular attribute are blank and some are with R3. So the records which are without any sourcesystem ID are not getting loaded.
Error is as follows: No source system ID exists for source system (logical system) FLAT_FILE.
Detail Error: Procdure: Assign source system ID to logical source system FLAT FILE. To do this go to TOOLS--> Assign source system to source system ID from main menu of DWB.
Can anyone tell me what exactly I need to give at this place. Any two digit char or do I need to contact basis to follow any specification?

Experts please let me know how I can proceed loading flatfile data which i got from another BI system.

What exactly does this attribute does while reporting?
Usually if you have 2 source system then this attribute is used to differentiate between to source systems. You have to use this is report to restrict to particular source system
I am assuming it will just differentiates the data that we loaded either from R/3 or FF or something else. Is that right?

Everything is based on reporting. Mostly you will use this when you are having two source systems. Ex: ECC and CRM for 0BPARTNER info object

No it doenst matter. You have button called something "Suggest ..." you can use that. Other wise you can give your own name

Question to assigning Source System for Activation

We want to assign source system for activation, before business content-InfoObject catalog activation. The steps as follows:
1.On the Data Warehousing Workbench: Business Content view from the menu choose Edit  Source System Assignment.->This step is ok, no question.
2. In the Choose source system by default? dialog box select the checkbox in the column Default assignment in the row containing the source systems you need to load data from.->Now we can see BI system as default call DEGCLNT500 displayed, in my case we only connect one R/3 system call DHHCLNT100 to BI system.
So, the question to that is shoud we select both R/3 source system and BW source system as default or just select R/3 source system as default and dis-select BW source system?
Which one should we choose, both or only R/3 source system?

Hi hi ni,
If what you are activating it's going to retrieve data only from R/3, then select R/3 and uncheck BW.
You can change this whenever you want, if in the future you need bw, before activating, you can change it.
This doesn't means where is going to get the data from, this is just to look for active (and replicated) datasources to connect to the business content you are activating.

Error while assigning source system to SAP Remote cube

I need to do a query using remote cube and the source sys is flat file.
it wont let me assign the source system to the remote cube.
the r/3 system icon is seen next to the remote cube technical name...
I can't see my flatfile source system
can somebody help me.

I don't think its possible to use Remote cubes for PC_FILE or FLAT FILE as Source system.
You can use Virtual Providers in these different scenarios
Virtual Providers based on DTP => used for SAP source systems
Virtual Providers based on BAPI => used for non-SAP or external systems
Virtual Providers bsaed on Function modules => You use this VirtualProvider if you want to display data from non-BI data sources in BI without having to copy the dataset into the BI structures. The data can be local or remote. You can also use your own calculations to change the data before it is passed to the OLAP processor. This function is used primarily in the SAP Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM) application.
Use InfoObects as Virtual Providers
Your case is none of these.

Error in Assigning Source System

I am getting an error saying that
<b>Communication structure 0ACCNT_GRPV does not exist
Message no. RSAR309</b>
This is after I have created an Infosource and trying to assign a datasource .
Pls Suggest ..what can be done..

Have you successfully installed the infoobject 0ACCNT_GRPV from business content?
The name implies that it was a standard business content object, hence should be installed from the business content. Since this infosource is with direct update, you should also get the underlying communication structure with the Business content activation. I checked in our system, and this infosource is assigned to the datasource 0ven_accnt_grp_text.
Also, you might want to run the program RS_COMSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL by specifying the name of the infosource i.e. 0ACCNT_GRPV for activating the inactive communication structure, if any.

Activation in Business Content but Not Assign Source System

Hi guys i am using BI 7.0 and i have to activate some infocubes in BC but when i activate them i have no choice for activate the source system asignation and the infopackages too....then i have to activate the standard objects and then manually create the transfer rules and the infopackages....
I have set up the systems which i want to connect in BC screen and i have activated and repeated my datasources.....
I hope somebody could help me with this

Hi Oscar,
Before you transfer your cubes to the right hand side, make sure you have selected the right source system ok. Once you transfer the cube to the RHS, make sure in grouping you select 'In dataflow before'
Once you have done this, IF there is a standard Datasource associated with the BC infocube it will then show up in the hierarchy.
Considering it is there, please activate this Datasource in your source system replicate your source system in BI. Now activate your other objects

In a simple term....u tell the BI system from where u have to extract data,,,

I hav created InfoObject Catalog for Characterstic and Keyfigures...
I Created a Application Componenet and Assigned Objects to InfoSource also...
But i struckked while assigning the Source System to the InfoSource...
I am not able to find how to assign the Source System like we do in 3.0b,3.1c & 3.5..
Can anybody tell me the Step by Step Navigation procedure for to assign Source System to the InfoSource and Other Things also....

I am working on BI7. I have one isse. For an infosource source system has been assigned to client 100. I would like to change it to 200. Pl let me know how to make this change.

I didn't get your question,how a infosource is assigned to source system,your data source will be assigned to source system and your infosource and data sourece will be assigned to each other..
delete the datasource from source system 100 and create a data source in 200 and assign it to your infosource(i am considering both 100 and 200 source systems are assigned linked to your BW system via RFC(SM59))..

Source system assignment in Remote Cubes

Hi Gurus,
Currently we are using FI-GL 10 Data source to provide Balance sheet reports. My Client wants faster access to data more frequently so we decided on using Remote Cube. I activated Remote cube from business content and relevant Infosource. As far as i know next steps would be to create transfer rules and assign source system.
Since 0FI_GL_10 is already used by other cubes i am not able to create source system connection. We are in BI 7.0. Can any one tell me how to connect it. Also can you please provide me the steps for using Remote Cubes ?

Source system Assignment for Virtual Cube

HI,
I transported infosource and transfer rules to production, but source system is not transported. if i am right i think i need to assign source system(prd) manually. but in prd all objects are not changeble, then how can i assign the source system to infosouce.

I transported infosource sucessfully to production , but when i am trying to transport transfer rules , giving warning source system is not transportable. this is happening with remote cube only. all other normal transports are fine.
i think there is a special way to transport TR for remote cube. pls. help me.

Source system assignment while transporting to quality

Hi Guys,
I have the following landscape.
I have created 2 source system ECCDEV and CRMDEV for my BIDEV.
Now I wish to do transport to Quality box and i want to know what should be the source system assignment , I should maintain in rsa1->transport connection -> conversion of logical system name.
When I maintain ECCDEV -
> ECCQUA
I get the error : ECCQUA entry does not exist in TBDLS.
Do I have to maintain source system ECCQUA(Quality) in BIDEV(Development) itself?

Hi Rakesh,
Let me know if my understanding is correct.
In DEV BI, I create a connection to DEV ECC.
Also, I create source system ID's for source system.
In the QUA BI, I create a connection with QUA ECC.
and assign source system connection (source and target) i.e. DEVECC and QUAECC.
Then I transport requests(activated datasources) from DEVECC to QUAECC and replicate the datasource in QUABI.
Please Confirm.

This option is only enable for object like transfer rule, data source and IP if you want them to assign source systems,other wise the dialog box Choose Source system by Default? appears.

Hi Priya,
You can do this by right clicking on the source system under the infosource and selection the option 'Delete Source System Assignment' in RSA1.
Go to RSA1 --> Infosource --> Source system --> right click and select 'Delete Source System Assignment' .
If you want to transport this, include the infsource in a transport and then delete the source system assignment.
