Assigning Static IP (not local static, internet) to server

I use linksys router in my office. WRT54GS V4
I have T1 line and my ISP provides 5 Static IP address.
DHCP option is turned on in my router. My server is connected to the router.
If I configure my server with static IP that my ISP provided, my server will not connect to internet.
It seems to me that only way to assign static IP to my server is to get a switch/hub
and connect server and my router to this switch/hub.
Or turn off DHCP option and configure networksetting for each PC n my office. For this case,
I have to assign some with local IP and some with static IP. Can it work?
If you have any suggestion, let me know.
Thanks.

The WRT54GS is a consumer router. It does not support multiple public IP addresses.
The only way it will work is the way you already found: connect a switch to the internet line and then connect the server and the internet port of the WRT to the switch. Of course, you should make sure to configure the firewall on the server very well as it is fully exposed to the internet.
Otherwise you have to get a business router which supports multiple public IP addresses, e.g. the Cisco Small Business series or better.

  • How to assign static ip address to the server having solaris 10. i.e. nge0

    hi,
how to assign static ip address to the server having solaris 10. i.e. nge0 i.e. 192.168.3.125 ipshold be persistantt across reboots. what steps do i need to follow to put all information including gateway, netmask etc..Also i want to integrate one init script ..can i integrate it using /etc/init.d/<service name> like linux. and do chkconfig on it?i am not getting complex procedure of SPF and FMRI etc..can u help me?

Create a file in your /etc directory called hostname.nge0. Add the hostname of your system to this file. In your /etc/hosts file, assign the static IP address you want to the same hostname. You can then disable and enable the network-physical service to configure the network interface:
    svcadm disable network-physical
    svcadm enable network-physical

  • Assigning static request ports

    Hi,
Due to our firewall deployment, we have to assign static request ports for serveral servers in the CMC in BI 4.0. This can be done manually, but we would like to script; we plan to use silent install so one wrapper script to do the install and then assign the ports would be great!
Note this is BI 4.0 on windows... so my feeling is this is not possible (windows is not great for scripting), but would be really happy to be proven wrong!
    Thanks,
    Tadhg

First and foremost, this definitely belongs in Idea Place.  Whether it be setting command line arguments via the BIP SDK, or setting default firewall configuration for new services, this behavior would be useful in a number of scenarios, including onboarding new tenants in a multi-tenant environment.  In the XIR2 days you could have accomplished this through a simple .reg file that modified the service parameters in the Windows registry.  Since the SIA now controls the relevant services they read their command lines from the system database like Graham mentions.
I do have a couple of thoughts on this, though I admit I haven't tested any of this so can't guarantee it would work.
Set your requestport properties in a test environment, and use the BIAR command line option (see section 15.5 on Page 520 of the FP03 admin guide) to backup the relevant server instances.  You could use a query like:
    select si_id, si_kind, si_current_command_line from ci_systemobjects where si_kind = 'server'
Since the default servers should always have the same SI_ID you could script the LCMCLI to update your server objects with the appropriate command line immediately following the installation.
Again not entirely sure this would work but perhaps something worth trying...

  • Assign Static IP to VPN clients authenticated on AAA server

    Hi NetPros
My objective is to assign static IP address for VPN clients.
The tunnel group authentication is on a AAA LDAP server.
AAA LDAP queries has been configured and tested to work.
I followed the guide below, but could not get static IP assignment to work.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa80/asdm60/selected_topics/enforce_AD.html#wp41996
The tunnel group is configured to use the DHCP pool and the Group policy on ASA.
    - If i do not specify dhcp pool, the error message is: "no assigned address"
    - If i configure dhcp pool, the assigned address will be from the pool
Here are my queries on assigning a static IP for aaa-users:
    1. Do you need to configure a external policy server for static IP assignment to work?
-I prefer to use the group policy on ASA
    2. Under the tunnel profile, do you need to specify what DHCP pool to use? If yes, what do i specify?
    3. Does DHCP service needs to be running on ldap server?
    4. As per printscreen below, is Remote Access Policy required?
    5. What am I missing out to make static IP assignment work?
    Big thanks

    Hi all
Thanks to friends working in Cisco, they have helped to identify the root cause.
The root cause was due to a misprint on the Cisco document.
The correct LDAP attribute is: msRASSavedFramedIPAddress. Note on the additional 'd' after the word, 'Frame'
In fact this LDAP attribute was also lacking of a 'd' on the ASDM scroll down selection. Would appreciate if someone relay the mistake to cisco personnel. Thanks all.

  • How do I assign static ip address on time capsule

I want to assign static ip addresses to certain devices in my home but not sure how to do it through the iMac and Air Port/time capsule

Not sure as I don't own an Apple router but on mosdt modern routers there is a way to set, that is SET, a constant IP for devices by their MAC address, that is Mac, Media Access Control address not Mac computer.
I would think Apple has included that feature in their Airport routers.

  • Connects to internet but not local network

My AX worked fine for the past year. While traveling I disconnected the AX and set the wireless mode in Airport Admin Utility to 'Wireless disabled' and then connected an iMac by ethernet wire for our housesitter. All worked well. On my return I plugged in the AX and reset the Wireless Mode to 'Create a Wireless Network (home router)'. All appeared to work well for the past week. Until today.... when I tried to print wirelessly to a printer connected to my server in the office outside our home. The MacBook Pro was unable to find the printer or the server. It was formerly able to this with no problem.
The MacBook Pro can connect to the internet by the AX but not to my local network.
When I choose 'connect to server' from the Go menu I'm unable to locate the server. I determined that if I enter the local address in the 'server address' window I am able to connect but remain unable to print. My former protocol was to choose the 'browse' button and choose from a list of possible computers (their are a number of Macs possibly on the network).
If I take the MacBook Pro across the driveway to the office and plug into my network the computer finds the server and the printer with no problem.
I've done a hard-reset twice - to no avail. And attempted a factory default re-set 3x but don't believe it worked since the green light didn't flash 4x as expected - it came on briefly and then turned amber while it re-started, but when I used Airport Set up Assistant all my former settings were there and the same password I had entered so I don't believe it reset to factory defaults.
    Yow!
    I'll really appreciate any assistance.

  • SQL Server 2012 - 3 SQL clustered instances - one default/ two named instances - how assign/should assign static ports for named instances

We have two physical servers hosting 3 SQL 2012 clustered instances, one default instance and two named instances.
The default instance is using port 1433 and the two named instances are using dynamic port assignment.
There is discussion about assigning static port numbers to the two named clustered SQL instances.
What is considered best-practice?  For clustered named instances to have dynamic or static ports?
Are there any pitfalls to assigning a static port to a named instance that is a cluster?
    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Hi RobinMCBC,
In SQL server the default instance has a listener which listens on the fixed port which is TCP port 1433. And for the named instance the port on which the SQL server listens is random and is dynamically selected when the named instance of the SQL server
    starts.
For Standalone instance of the SQL server we can change the dynamic port of the named instance to the static port by using SQL server configuration manager as other post, however, in case of the cluster, when we change the port no. of the named instance
to the static port using the method described above, the port no. again changes back to the dynamic port after you restart the services. I recommend you changing the Dynamic port of the SQL Server to static port
on all the nodes , disabling and enabling the checkpointing to the quorum.
For more information, you can review the following article about how to change the dynamic port of the SQL Server named instance to an static port in a SQL Server 2005 cluster.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlserverfaq/archive/2008/06/02/how-to-change-the-dynamic-port-of-the-sql-server-named-instance-to-an-static-port-in-a-sql-server-2005-cluster.aspx

  • Assigning static port address

    Hello All,
We are having a standalone BOE server. I have a doubt about assigning static port addresses to servers. We had a standard deployment of BusinessObjects 4.0 SP2. Our admin has assigned static request port address to APS, CMS, FRS, Crystal report servers and Dashboard server instead of using "Auto assign".
Does it necessary to assign static port address to these servers and does it necessary to open these ports on firewall?
What are the advantages of assigning static port address instead of using "Auto assign"?
As per my understanding, request port of APS, FRS and other servers are used to communicate those with CMS. And CMS and all other servers are hosted on the same server. Then why do we need to open those ports on firewall in a server.
    Appreciate your help and suggestions.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Aashutosh

    Hi,
if you dont have a Firewall in between your Client PCs and the BOE Server you dont need to assign static ports. You only need this if a Firewall is controlling the communication between these two parts.
Most of the Services communicate only with the CMS - thats correct.
But if you use the BI LaunchPad only for vieweing and creating Reports like WebI you need to open the Port 8080 for the Application Server.
If you are using Front- End Clients for viewing and or editing Reports you need to open the CMS Port 6400 and assign a static Port to the IFRS and OFRS and open these ports too.
    Regards

  • Wi-Fi has the self assigned IP address and will not connect to Internet

MacBook Air will not connect to Internet (no problem with other devices). Message states " Wi-Fi has the self assigned IP adresss 169.254.147.1and will not connect to Internet.

First, try restarting the router. If there's no change, hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What value is shown for Security?

  • Self assigned IP address will not connect to internet

Took iMac into Apple store, Genius tech confirmed wifi connection working in store.  Cleaned out a few library files, suggested I go home and attempt to access wifi connection again.
All other Apple devices connect to Internet using WiFi connection with Airport Extreme, including one Windows laptop.
Occasionally the wifi connection on my iMac would drop out.  In system preferences I would see the network there, select it, and was good to go.  Not this time!
Went back to the Apple store to ask for help.  Tech suggested I clean out "locations", so I did that.  I also did manual set up using IP address on Airport, got message that wifi is connected but iMac not connected to Internet.  Tried Diagnostic, Assistant,  and nothing works.  Wifi is working, I am on my iPad, but cannot get this iMac computer online.
Defaults to "WiFi has the self assigned IP address 169 254  167 148 and will not be able to connect to Internet
Under that message is Network Name and mine is shown.  again:  WiFi On, Alert: No Internet Connection, Apple Network selected and working.
How much does it cost to call Apple Support?  I feel sure a grandson or nephew could fix this but no one lives nearby:-). Thanks for any suggestions.

Hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What values are shown for the following?
    PHY Mode
    Channel
    Security

  • HELP! PowerBook G4 OS X 10.3 not connecting to Internet on AT&T U-verse

I recently upgraded to a MacBook Pro from a 7-year-old PowerBook G4. I erased the hard drive on the old one and re-installed the OS with the original software install and restore disc so my step-daughter can use the computer. We have AT&T U-Verse with their residential gateway (modem + router in one), and I am able to connect to the network, but I can't connect to the Internet. In the Network Status for AirPort it said it's connected to the network, but it has a "self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet.
Before I did the wipe and reinstall of the OS I didn't have any problems connecting to the network. I had upgraded to Tiger at some point in time, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. It's not a problem with my Internet connection, because the three other computers (1 Mac + 2 PCs) are connecting fine. One other note: because we are using AT&T's gateway, we don't have access to any of the settings on it.
Anyone have any suggestions for troubleshooting?

    Wendy,
    Welcome to Discussions.
Having a self-assigned IP address means simply that you're not connected to the network, local or internet. It sounds like you're attempting to connect over wireless, and it sounds like your interpretation of being able to "see" the network you wish to connect to is where you believe that you are cnnected to the local network. At least you can see it, so it's a fundamentally good start.
Once you performed the restore from original CDs, did you upgrade to the latest version of OSX 10.3, and update any other software that the Apple Software Update System Pref identifies as requiring upgrade ? I understand this is a chicked and egg situation, you can't get Software Update to check without an internet connection.
So when you attempt to connect to the desired network, are you prompted for a password ?
Does the wireless encryption method chosen by default by the PowerBook G4 match the encryption method expected ? My old PBG4 used to get this wrong sometimes.
In the Network System Pref, what is the order of the Network Port configurations ? Perhaps Ethernet, AirPort, FireWire, Internal Modem, Bluetooth. Although not all of those may be there. Make sure AirPort is at the top - select "Network Port configuration" under the "Show" drop down menu to set the order.
If you're not asked to key a password when you attempt to join the wireless network, it may be that you have an incorrect password stored in the Keychain - happens to all of us. There's a Keychain Access application in the Utilities folder, when I muck it up, I run that and delete the wrong entries and try to connect again.
Can you also confirm which PBG4 it is, just so we're on the same page.

  • MBP upgraded to Yosemite and now will not connect to Internet using a Cisco router

I Upgraded my MBP mid 2010 to Yosemite and now it will not connect to Internet using a system that involves typing in my user name and password in an auto pop up window provided by Cisco security systems. Before, using Mavericks, it worked perfectly: boot up MBP and the Cisco pop up auto loaded. Typed it my password and hey presto, connected to Internet. Now, zilch. There is nothing wrong with the Cisco cos my iPad connects ok, as do both my iPhone's.
the problem is with Yosemite therefore. Please help. I tried all the usual diags, etc to no avail.

Sounds like there could be some kind of compatibility issue between ICS and this Bluetooth device of yours. Is there any compatibility info from the manufacturer about which Android versions that's being supported?
