Assigning value to a CLOB variable
Hi,
I've a variable var1 in CLOB datatype.
When I try to put the following statement in my procedure, it raises errors.
var1 := 'New value for this variable';
Why? or is there any function that I need to convert the value to CLOB before assigning it ?
Please advise.
Thanks.
Hi,
you can find all that you request at the
SYS.DBMS_LOB Package.
you can read & write into the lob RAW data or files and perform all kinds of stuff.
Read the package and get wise.

Assigning value to array type variable in a loop
Hi
I have a scenario in which i am assigning value from a array type variable(x) to the invoke variable of a database adapter. The variable x is exact replica of the invoke variable.
My copy operation in assign activity looks like this-
<copy>
<from variable="Var" part="InputParameters"
query="/ns7:InputParameters"/>
<to variable="Invoke_call_XXDPI_EDI_852_PKG_InputVariable"
part="InputParameters"
query="/ns7:InputParameters *(* bpws:getVariableData('iterator') *)* "/>
</copy>
It is inside a while loop activity.
PS *()* are square brackets
But it is erroring out at run time.
Does anybody has an alternate idea to assign value to an array type?.
i have seen that while extracting value from an array type variable it works fine
A similar kind of operation is shown below.
<copy>
<from variable="Var" part="InputParameters"
query="/ns7:InputParameters *(* bpws:getVariableData('iterator') *)* "/>
<to variable="Invoke_call_XXDPI_EDI_852_PKG_InputVariable"
part="InputParameters"
query="/ns7:InputParameters"/>
</copy>
Thanks
Ayush
Edited by: Ayush fujitsu on Aug 14, 2009 4:36 AMHi Ayush
I suppose you are getting some error like "source node returns multiple elements".
In second case there is no problem because you are assigning *InputParameters[bpws:getVariableData('iterator')]* (+suppose InputParameters[1]+) to target. Here it works fine because you are fetching oonly 1 value from source and assigning it to the target.
Now in first case you are saying copy InputParameters to target[1] suppose. You know that source is an array which contains multiple index so which index field from the source will be assigned to the target.
Try your process with only 1 source value it will work but when multiple values will be there it will fail. You have to merge both the cases and it will look like
*<copy>*
*<from variable="Var" part="InputParameters"*
query="/ns7:InputParameters ( bpws:getVariableData('iterator') ) "/>
*<to variable="Invoke_call_XXDPI_EDI_852_PKG_InputVariable"*
part="InputParameters"
query="/ns7:InputParameters ( bpws:getVariableData('iterator') ) "/>
*</copy>*
And the easiest way to do this is by the transform activity as said above.

Assign value to Object type variable
CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE emp AS OBJECT (
empid NUMBER,
age NUMBER,
dob date);
CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE emp _tab AS TABLE OF emp;
Pls hlep me assign value to the object type variable in loop..(assume there is 5 10 records in emp table)
declare
v_emp_tt emp _tab ;
begin
for i in (select empid ,age ,dob from emp ) Loop
v_emp_tt := i.empid; --this is wrong pls help me correct it.
end loop;
end;
thanks,I would keep the type/object naming convention distinct from the table name.
In terms of assignment:
CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE to_emp AS OBJECT
(empid NUMBER,
age NUMBER,
dob date);
CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE tt_emp AS TABLE OF emp;
declare
v_emp tt_emp;
begin
select to_emp_obj(emp_id, age, dob)
bulk collect into v_emp
from emp;
end; -
Assigning values to a javascript variable
Hi,
Using request dispatcher, i'm forwarding the control to a html from a servlet like this(obj.forward(/index.html?field1=value1&field2=value2).
In the receiving end, ie., in the html i would like to assign those 2 field1,field2 values to a javascript variables. Javascript located in the index.html.
I don't know how to do this.
Pls any one help me to get of this pblm
Thanks in Advance
Kannan.THi thanks for ur reply,
You r telling while forwarding a request from one
servlet to another servlet, we can't add query
string(requestparameters). But then how come this
code is working?
RequestDispatcher
rdis=getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/MyServ
let?type=normal");
rdis.forward(req,res);Well I owe an apology here - I was not completely correct. I have tested and found that you can indeed add parameters that way. The catch is that these parameters are nested to that forwarded /included resource. It is not available in the original jsp or to some other resource included from the original jsp unless ofcourse you add the parameter again.
>
please give me a solution.
Like this i have to forward my request (with
querystring) to a html page.
That htmlpage should receive parameters and assign
the values to a javascript variables.
how can i achieve this.
thanks in advance.My original reply stands.
You cannot do that in a html page. You have to have a jsp that generates the html.

Assign value to ODI variable from Jython
Hello Experts,
I have a procedure where I'm using Jython code. I want to assign a value to an ODI project variable from a Jython function:
Example:
#COUNTER = len(v_jythonList) ---> being #COUNTER the ODI project variable and len() the jython function
Now, i noticed that using ODI variables adds # sign which is use for comments in Jython code. Is there a way to assign values to ODI variables from Jython script?
Please help!.
Thanks.
Pablo.Hi,
Does this post help you :- How to assign value for a ODI variable from Jython Script

Select LONG column into CLOB variable
Hi all,
I am trying retrieve the data present in a LONG column into a CLOB variable.
However I am getting an error, pls let me know how I can resolve it.
DECLARE
v_text CLOB;
BEGIN
SELECT TO_LOB(trigger_body)
INTO v_text
FROM
user_triggers
WHERE
ROWNUM <= 1;
END;
ERROR at line 8:
ORA-06550: line 8, column 20:
PL/SQL: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got LONG
ORA-06550: line 8, column 5:
PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
Let me know if there is an alternate to this. I would like to get the data present in the LONG column into a variable.
The reason why I am not retrieving the LONG column into LONG variable is stated below (from Oracle Website):
You can insert any LONG value into a LONG database column because the maximum width of a LONG column is 2**31 bytes.
However, you cannot retrieve a value longer than 32760 bytes from a LONG column into a LONG variable.
Thanks and Regards,
SomuThere are couple of things I did (listed in order):
1) Create Global Temporary Table containing a CLOB column
2) Select LONG column and convert to CLOB by using TO_LOB and insert into Global Temporary Table containing a CLOB column
2) Select from this Global Temporary Table (which already contains data in CLOB) and assign it to a CLOB variable.
This is done because you can not directly use TO_LOB in a select statement to assign the value to a CLOB variable.
Stated below is an example:
-- Create Temporary Table
CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE glb_tmp_table_lob(
time TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE,
text CLOB
ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS;
-- PL/SQL Block to Execute
DECLARE
v_clob CLOB;
BEGIN
-- Insert into Temporary Table by converting LONG into CLOB
INSERT INTO glb_tmp_table_lob (
time ,
text
SELECT
sysdate ,
TO_LOB(dv.text)
FROM
dba_views dv
WHERE
ROWNUM <= 1
-- Select from the Temporary table into the variable
SELECT
gt.text
INTO
v_clob
FROM
glb_tmp_table_lob gt;
COMMIT;
-- Now you can use the CLOB variable as per your needs.
END;

In the above program, Can we assign V_num with a value 10????????Yes; the example you posted does that.
When the loop starts, the value 10 is assigned to v_num. You should see that value displayed by the put_line statement.
After that, v_num is set to 10 - 1 = 9.
Next, the EXIT condition is evaluated. At this point, v_num is 9, not 0, so the loop runs again. V_num is set to 10 again, and the loop continues forever (or, in some versions, until the dbms_output buffer is filled and an error occurs.) -
How to find colums in CLOB variable and get this colums value to update col
Question
How to find colums in CLOB variable and get this colums value to update colum of oracle database table
How my work will go
Step-1 - I am creating XML FIle which is based on code that we discused before-
Its developing xml file with data in <...inputelement> as u can see in my xml but in <..output> Element of xml its just have all column for exampe <itemoutput>
<FLD NM = "ABC"> 0 </FLD>
<FLD NM = "XYZ:> </FLD> --- for varchar2
</itemoutput>
In 1st stage i am just generating <..INPUT> with its colums and real value from database and <..output> elements will go zero value but with colums name.
Note. I create temp table will all COLUMN which u can see in both in <..ITEMINPUT> and <..ITEMOUTPUT>
Step2.. After Generaing my xml i want to convert my xml data into CLOB not in a file. so clob will go to the VENDOR
STEP3.
I will Recieved again xml data in CLOB from the vendo in <.OUTPUT> ELEMents
for example
I send this format
<itemoutput>
<FLD NM = "ABC"> 0 </FLD>
<FLD NM = "XYZ:> </FLD> --- for varchar2
</itemoutput>
And i will receive it
<itemoutput>
<FLD NM = "ABC VALUE"> 2 </FLD>
<FLD NM = "XYZ TYPE:> SUV</FLD> --- for varchar2
</itemoutput>
So will take this output valu from xml clob and will update my staging table .
Which have the same colum name as its look in xml clob.
Step- 4. I will take this value from staging table and update my original oracle database table. which i send you before.
But u leave this step becaue you dont know the staging table colum maping with original table.
I think now you understand
Please feed back
monrizhere is my xml..
I want to extract <..output> elements which enclosed with " " and its values from this xml file. please any body have any idea. please tell me
Thanks

Assigning value to variable in ODI
Hi
TotalCount(datatype is numeric)--->Action is (Latest value)
And i want to assign value it by using following query
select count(*) from Investment_ato
i am writing this in a refresh tab
And i am using this variable in another variable(var_account)
but value of TotalCount variable is not coming in var_account
so plz suggest regards the same
thanksYou can set the refreshing mode in the variable var_account and in the refreshing tab put the query as: select #TotalCount from dual.
Hope it helps! -
Assigning a value to a substitute variable
Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to assign a value to a substitute variable.
This is what I'm doing:
- Prompting user for input
ACCEPT uom CHAR PROMPT 'Enter number of UOM system you would like: ' DEF '0'
(displayed list of options are numbers 0-5)
- Based on input, open corresponding file
(start i:\utc\all\oracle\uom\uom_column_heading_&&uom..sql)
Problem:
- Default selection is 0, meaning use the CURRENT UOM system (a number, 1-5)
- That being said, &&uom must be assigned a 1-5 value in order to open the file that corresponds to the CURRENT UOM system
Let me know if any additional information is needed.
Thanks!I apologize for the format. I tried to make it more legible, but was not able to. FYI: It appears to be easier to read in "Edit" view.
Thanks, I tried the &&uom := your_function(); suggestion, but I am getting an error. It looks like the "value" of &&uom is being read in the assignment statement, not the variable name.
I have copied the piece of the code, for your reference.
ACCEPT uom CHAR PROMPT 'Enter number of UOM system you would like: ' DEF '0'

v_curr_uom_sys := EG.GET_CURRENT_UOM();
v_uom_num := eg.get_user_selected_uomnum(v_curr_uom_sys);
&&uom := to_char(v_uom_num);
dbms_output.put_line('v_uom_num = ' || v_uom_num);
dbms_output.put_line('&&uom = ' || &&uom);
END;
--prompt "&&uom"
start i:\utc\all\oracle\uom\uom_column_heading_&&uom..sql
Below are the results I get when commenting out the &&uom := to_char(v_uom_num); line. NOTE: the "value" of &&uom = 0.
v_uom_num = 1
0 = 0
If I leave that line in, I get the following error:
PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "0" when expecting one of the following:
begin case declare end exit for goto if loop mod null pragma
raise return select update while with <an identifier>
<a double-quoted delimited-identifier> <a bind variable> <<
close current delete fetch lock insert open rollback
savepoint set sql execute commit forall merge pipe
The symbol "<an identifier> was inserted before "0" to continue.

Assign a Javascript variable value to a ABAP variable
Hi,
I wish to assign a javascript variable value to a ABAP variable. Any ideas how to do that?
Many thanks.
Rgds,
BerniceHere's another suggestion for you.
BSP Application: SBSPEXT_HTMLB
Check out the radionbuttongroup.bsp
So then instead of using a standard HTML radio buttons you can use the HTMLB element with the parameter for onClick set then in your DO_HANDLE_EVENT you can read the value.
VIEW
<htmlb:radioButtonGroup id="radio">
<htmlb:radioButton id="id_link"
text="Link"
onClick="myClickHandler"/>
<htmlb:radioButton id="id_unlink"
text="Unlink"
onClick="myClickHandler"/>
</htmlb:radioButtonGroup>
DO_HANDLE_EVENT
DATA: lt_event TYPE REF TO if_htmlb_data.
lt_event = cl_htmlb_manager=>get_event_ex( request ).
if lt_event IS NOT INITIAL.
if lt_event->event_name = htmlb_events=>radiobutton.
case lt_event->event_id.
when 'control_id_link'.
schalter = ' '..
when 'control_id_unlink'.
schalter = '1'.
endcase.
endif.
endif.
There is an example of how to use it and read it in the DO_HANDLE_EVENT you then just have to pass the variable around (in this example the variable name is schalter and is defined as char1 in the class) -

Assigning Value to Variable in Sapscript
Hi,
To initialized value of the variable when I tried to assign 0 to variable (like in the following statement) it comes up with error 'Command Expected'.
&RF140-ZALBT&= '0'.
Please let me know where and what I am doing wrong in assigning value to a variable?
Regards,
ShabbarHi,
Still its not working. The statement I am writing is
/: &NET& = &RF140-WRSHB& - &RF140-MSATZ&
but the system gives error on that.
NET is the local variable declared with Define statement and both the others are defined in print program.
Even I tried
/: &RF140-ZALBT& = &RF140-WRSHB& - &RF140-MSATZ&
but still the same error.
Any comments?
Regards,
Shabbar
