Assistance Required with Mac Mini & TV configuration

Hello,
I purchased a new Mac Mini model from the Apple Store.
My current configuration is as follows:
Sony Bravia – Mac Mini
Western Digital Ethernet 1T Harddrive – Hooked up to modem (in the same room)
Software download for Mac Mini: Plexxapp
All of my music and movies are located on the WD Harddrive.. And when I load the Plexapp program, if I go to ‘Front Row’, then ‘Source’ – It will read the WD Hardrive, but will seem to take forever to try read the contents on this Hardrive. Give me the ‘loading’ symbol and that is all I get.
Is there usually an issue when accessing remote files thru a Mac Mini (stream interruption) ?
Accessing shared playlists via iTunes. I also had a buffering issue when accessing music from a Mac in the Study. Is this an internet/connection issue or purely because there are too many music files & the mini is slow to respond.
I guess my question is: Is it best to hook up the WD Hardrive direct to the Mini for Music and File, or to transfer files direct to the Mac Mini itselt?
Ideally, I’d like to get the wireless / streaming thing happening before having to resort to plugging in the WD hardrive to the Mac Mini.
Out of curiosity, has anyone used Plexxapp before? How do you find it? I’m still trying to work out how to access movie and music files. All a little bit overwhelming!
Your assistance would be much appreciated.

If you launch Front Row, its not really designed to read content from your local drives that isn't part of your iTunes library of content like music, TV shows, and movies. If the content you have on your networked drive is non-iTunes Music Store content, chances are it won't be easily included if at all in your iTunes library.
Plex uses its own library and will sort and display your content. It is completely separate from Front Row. If you need additional help with Plex, you should consult the Plex Forums.

  • I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant and my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.

I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.  It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro.  When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device.  I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer.  Any ideas?

    Thanks, Sig.
The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

  • The best audio interface with Mac Mini using new & existing equipment?

    Hi,
I got my existing set-up back in 2003. I'm now about to update it.
I've talked to Apple Technical Support re which computer is best for me.
Some important questions remain in terms of the audio interface or sound bridge I should use.
I've detailed below my existing set-up, my existing configuration, my desired set-up (as recommended by Apple expert) and questions I have.
    Existing set-up:
    Hardware...
    1. ViewSonic HDMI 1080p Full HD LED monitor
    2. PowerMac G4 (PowerPC processor) computer
    3. PCI-424 soundcard within computer (works in conjunction with MOTU 2408 mk3 unit)
    4. MOTU 2408 mk3
    5. Quested monitors
    6. Focusrite Session Pack ff ISA220 compressor
    7. MOTU micro lite (midi-usb interface)
    8. Keyboard (yet to choose - I'll explain later)
    9. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone
    10. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone power box (supplies both power and phantom power)
    Software...
    11. Tiger 10.4.11 operating system
    12. Logic Studio 8 music program
    Desired set-up:
    1. ViewSonic HDMI 1080p Full HD LED monitor
    2. Mac Mini full spec = £999.00
    3. _______________________________________
    4. _______________________________________
    5. Quested monitors
    6. _______________________________________
    7. _______________________________________
    8. _______________________________________
    9. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone
    10. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone power box (supplies both power and phantom power)
    Software...
    11. Top-end operating system = Comes with Mac Mini
    12. Logic Pro X music program = £139.99
    Existing configuration:
ViewSonic HDMI 1080p Full HD LED monitor goes into PowerMac G4 (PowerPC processor) computer
PCI-424 soundcard within computer (works in conjunction with MOTU 2408 mk3 unit)
MOTU 2408 mk3 used as my audio interface for sound in and sound out. This means that the sound comes out of computer via the MOTU 2408 and out of my Quested monitors (they are active so self-powered) which are attached to the MOTU's outputs.
When I record vocals I sing into my ADK microphone (this microphone sources its own power from its own box which also feeds it Phantom Power) which is connected by a mic to jack cable to the Focusrite compressor which is connected by jack to jack cable to the MOTU 2408 which then goes into my computer via a firewire cable.
When I play keyboards or use my keyboard as a midi controller it connects to my computer via the MOTU micro lite (midi-usb interface).
I don't currently have a keyboard. I used to use my basic Yamaha PSR-540 keyboard as a midi controller but as it's not weighted and faulty I needed to get a new one. We got a new one via Thomann which was the M-Audio Pro Keys 88 keyboard but this quickly became faulty. We returned it and have since been considering other weighted keyboards. I am simply wanting a keyboard with Aftertouch, either 76 or 88 keys, weighted keys and very importantly, hammer action where the action is fast. I don't care for other controllers on the keyboard, on-board sounds, iPad compatibility or whatever.
    My Questions:
Q1) Can you recommend any keyboards meeting my specifications?
Q2) I can't imagine any of the Blue or other USB mics competing with my ADK and I'm quite happy with it. For vocals and when I've wanted to play the keyboard in as audio (not as a midi controller) I've used the Focusrite compressor to boost the sound. I'm not using many functions/presets on the compressor as I know it's best to record the sound of vocals mostly raw, is this correct, and if so is it worth me continuing to use this compressor or sell it?
Q3) Do I need to have the MOTU micro lite (midi to usb) unit? Don't most keyboards these days connect direct usb to usb on the computer?
Q4) I'm happy and used to the sound out from my Quested monitors. I'm happy and used to the sound in using my ADK microphone. What do I need for these to work best with the Mac Mini? Is my MOTU 2408 good for this, or is another MOTU product needed, or another product altogether?
Q5) Depending on (Q4) do I need a soundcard installed in the Mac Mini as I read on a forum that these days the audio interface acts like the soundcard?
Q6) I have such a bad connection to the internet it's like I have Dial-up!!! I use Airport Wireless which is connected to a router downstairs, which is 02 Broadband. Internet's not an issue downstairs on my girlfriend's intel PC which also uses a wireless connection but not Airport. Is this a problem because of my Airport, or do I need to get a router for upstairs, or should I connect it directy to the router downstairs by ethernet cable?
    Many thanks!

Is there a reason you don't want to use your current Tascam?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
I use two older Logitechs (MX-500 and MX-510) with my Macs because I had difficulties (finger-coordinations) with the Mighty Mouse.
You should not have any problems using them.
However the additional buttons can not be configured by OSX, so if you want using them you can use the Logitech Control Center (works for me, but others have reported problems with it) of third-party software like SteerMouse to configure the buttons.

  • No external speaker sound with mac-mini running bootcamp win7 64

    Hi,
I am unable to get external sound working with mac mini (september 2011) running windows 7 64 on bootcamp 4 (Lion). Drivers appear OK in device manager. Running seperate driver exe from bootcamp library results in a message that the best driver is working. Any suggestions? How do I know which audio driver I need? Where, specifically, can I download the correct driver? I have seen a reference to cirrus logig 4206B driver working but I can find no such driver anywhere. I can't figure out how to search for drivers on cirrus web site. Please help.
    Thanks,
    b

Ok, the solution in my case was to go back to MacOS, run the BootCamp assistant again, and have it re-download all the Windows drivers.  Back in Windows 7, uninstall BootCamp, then reinstall.  Now all the drivers work.
Apple has apparently updated/fixed their 64 bit drivers since I last tried to make it go.  I would have thought that Apple Software Update (on Windows) or Windows Update would have picked up the newer drivers, but they didn't.

Your advice did not help me. I also installed 10.7.4 combo but the situation is the same.
my internet connection is ok, mail is ok, but app store after 3 resets does not recognize my ID and it says "connection is not possible". Why? I have the same problem in both my mac mini late 2009 and mac book air 2010? Is it a problem of 10.7.4 update? I have to solve this problem and how can i return to 10.7.3 if my last backup was not with 10.7.3???thank you for your kind collaboration...

  • I can't use my Philips monitor with Mac mini

I can't use my Philips monitor with Mac mini, I am using a HDMI to VGA cable to connect them. But no signal on my Philips monitor.
My Mac mini is in a good condition, it can connect with my HDTV, the BENQ monitor at my office, but I can't make it connect with my Philips monitor.
    I dun know what happen.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

The two are incompatible, HDMI is a digital signal and VGA is an analog signal. You need a monitor with a HDMI port or a DVI-I port, these are both digital signals. DVI-I gives the best output.

  • Apple TV mirroring issues even with Mac mini, airport extreme bought at the end of last year, and an iPad 2

Apple TV mirroring issues even with Mac mini, airport extreme bought at the end of last year, and an iPad 2

I have the same issue with ATV3 and iPhone 4S. Everything works properly, no buffering issues when watching netflix, vimeo, youtube BUT when I try mirroring even a small 15sec iPhone movie it stutters and buffers and results to a choppy playback..same with larger mp4 files such as 1-1.5GB, buffers forever and never plays, I just re-encoded the same movie to 700MB and plays perfectly..
Why Apple, why?..so close..I can accept the bigger movie files issue, but not being able to playback properly an iPhone movie is funny..I recorded a movie with lower bitrate through Filmic Pro (Economy mode, up to 16Mbps)
    and plays properly.
Is there an upcoming software update going to solve the problem or is it hardware related and therefore not fixable.
Please don't reply with a network related answer, by 2012 we know how to set up our networks and everything else runs flawlessly.
I'll apreciate a fast answer, we love Apple, but if it can't play an iphone movie (or a high quality movie from iTunes) it's just not up to my standards.
    Thanks again.

  • IPad Mini Won't Sync With Mac Mini (ios 8.1 OSX 10.6.8)

Problem : IPad Mini connects to iTunes OK, can be seen in iTunes and I can select which movies to sync to it etc.  When I hit the "apply" button after making a change (ie deleting or adding a movie) the sync lasts just a second then the "sync" button remains greyed out, and I can't make them sync.

  • Can I still use Appleworks 6.2.9 with Mac Mini 2012?

Can I still use Appleworks 6.2.9 with Mac Mini 2012?

Yes, MlchaelLAX, the KVM switch allow one to use one monitor, one keyboard, and one mouse between two computers.  It has been so long that I'm not sure how to find the MODELS to the G4 and G5. Unless you mean what makes the Mac tick.  The G5 is a dual 2GHz PowerPC, with 2 GB DDR SDRAM.  The G4 is a bit slower, will look tomorrow.
I want/need a newer Mac model because unlike the days before OS X, all software was included as the newer OS were added, not so today.  I'm still using Tiger because I still use a couple programs from the old days.  When I eventually purchase a new model, I will have to buy all new software.  That's find if one has plenty of money and wants to learn everything from scratch, but I'm hanging on as long as I can.
I tried TenFourFox, but it didn't allow video, of course since I tried Michael's suggestion, the video might not be an issue.  So far, every thing works the way it should.
I have a lot of faith in Mac users, their loyalties to Apple is what kept Apple floating when many thought it would sink.  These folks are survivors; I only wish the apple people on the top appreciated that loyalty today, but I guess things are too good.
Thanks to all for you kindness.  Tomorrow I will show my husband how to remove his yellow threat on his G4.  If anyone can answer any other questions, please know I will keep viewing this post.

  • Is Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 compatible with Mac mini?

Hi, I am thinking of getting a Mac mini. I currently have a Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 which I use with my HP laptop. Does anyone know if it is fully compatible with Mac mini?

It is compatible -- to a certain extent.
The Windows key will become the  (Command) key. The Mac will let you know that the keyboard you plugged in couldn't be identified, so it will ask you to type the Z key, followed by the / key. Choose ANSI and you should be ready to use the keyboard. Any multimedia keys or extra keys not part of the standard keyboard layout will have no function. The F12 key becomes the Eject key.
(PS/2 keyboards are not compatible with the Mac, unless you purchase a $15 PS/2-to-USB converter.)

  • IPad calendar fails to synch with Mac mini

How can I fix a recent failure of iPad calendar to synch with Mac mini?  iTunes no longer saks me about ocnflicts between the iPad and the computer.

While waiting, I found the fix in another thread:
Open iSync on main computer with iPad attached and turned on.
    Choose "Reset sync history".
That is all there is to it.  The "Sync" still did not recognize two events scheduled for the same time, one in one sub-calendar on the iPad, and in another one on the Mac Mini.  I wound up with two choir practices, one in blue and one in pink on both devices.  Should it have noticed these and asked me about them?
I also read elsewhere that it messes up the iPad to change an event from one calendar sub-heading to another.  I will avoid doing that in the future.
