Assistance with disabling Photobooth login picture button

Hello to all,
I am a little new to the forums as a poster but I have a question that I have been working on for a while and I have not found an answer to this as of yet. Please forgive me if I put this in the wrong cattegory. A little background first, I work for a school district which like so many others has puchased a great deal of Macs. When we started receiving the iMacs with the iSight cameras we also got Photobooth. This little application though has a function built into it that I have not found a way of stopping. When running the program and you select a picture it gives you a button which says "Account Picture", which will make the picture the picture next to your name on the login screen. This is not a big deal for the general user but in a school we have a lot of children who love to make silly pictures and then when they click on this button it changes what is supposed to be a standard login item. This is really problematic when you account for the ones who make inappropriate gestures while doing this.
What I would like to know is there a way to either make the button not appear or block the allowance for this button to work? The account in question is a limmited user and this is running on a 10.4.11 machines (both intel and G5). I am also not allowed to uninstall it or black access to the program. I also must allow for the login names and cannot just have them type in the account name to hide the pictures. These are mandates from the districts specialists which want to use the program despite the time that people lose cleaning the login screens on the computers. Any ideas that you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
ANotti

I'm not sure if Parental Controls allows you to restrict a user's ability to make changes in Accounts preferences, but that would be the first thing to check. If the user cannot make changes to Accounts preferences, then they would not be able to change the login image.
If the above isn't available, then you could block access to the folder where the images are stored. Normally the images saved by Photo Booth are saved in /Home/Pictures/Photo Booth/. This folder is normally accessible by the user. There is a similar folder in each user account on the computer. You can change the privileges on the folder such that the user has read-only rights. If the user does not have write privileges then they cannot save an image in that folder. They can still snap a picture with Photo Booth, but they cannot save it, so they cannot make it an account picture. Only those images already saved in the folder will be usable for account pictures. If you allow the students to take one picture to save in the folder, and you then change the folder's access to read-only except for the admin user. This would be an inelegant solution because you would need to monitor the initial use of Photo Booth for the account picture, then change the permissions of the folder in each user account. This would be a royal pain, but if Parental Controls doesn't have an included solution such as denying access to the Accounts preferences then I don't know of another solution that doesn't involve buying third-party software that expands the reach of Parental Controls.

My Macbook Pro is frozen on the login page with a white screen and only my login picture. How do I fix this? I can't turn it off and I closed it and let it charge but it's still not working. It's only 3 months old and was working perfectly fine 30min before this happened.

    Hello Kierasully,
I would start your troubleshooting with the article below for issues of not being able to log in to your Mac. Start with booting up in to Safe Boot as well as resetting PRAM on your Mac. If that does not work, then verify the hard drive with booting to the Recover HD and go to Disk Utility to verify it.

Hello, I bought a flash web template and now I am trying to

then connect it with a picture/button using actionscript in CS3. I

There are multiple ways in which HTML controls can communicate with flash. I think one such way by using SetVariable() can address your issue is explained at: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/external_interface_print.html

Depending on why it's been disabled, you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
Or you might need to contact Apple : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
If it then works on your computer's iTunes but not your iPad then try logging out of your account on the phone by tapping on the id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on it

  • High school computer lab: turning off iSight, disabling Photobooth

We purchased new iMacs for our computer labs, and the iSight camera plus Photo Booth have been nothing but needless distractions since the school year began. I think that it is UNACCEPTABLE that Apple did not foresee the need to turn these cameras off and provide a way to do so in system preferences, rather than forcing people to rely on a command line hack to get this done.
I also find it incredibly stupid to provide people WITHOUT administrator privileges the option of changing the account pictures through Photo Booth. This is just idiotic. All of the account pictures for our public accounts (where all system preferences are locked) have been changed to photo booth pictures and it takes time to change them back on 90+ computers.
Yes, I know that Photo booth access can be disabled, but it is like it never entered Apple's mind that these computers might be used in computer labs, otherwise, (a) the option to turn this camera off would have been provided, and (b) they would not have included an option in an application which allows a person without admin privileges to change an account's picture. If the ability to change an account picture is turned off, shouldn't photo booth know this? Stupid.
    Just venting.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I have sent apple my feedaback because I have a similar problem. I have a mobile MacBook Lab and can't seem to find a way to disable the option in Photo Booth that sends the photo taken to the users login account picture. This cuts down on my administrative efficiency because I have to change the user account pictures back to its original. The problem that there is no option to disable the "send to accounts feature" in a school enviornment is the students who use photo booth to take obscene photos and then send them to the accounts picture.
Please help me with a solution. Is there is a way to recreate the Login window to it's, original established set of account pictures, after a user logs out of their account? These MacBooks are used by many different grade levels including 1st and 2nd graders and I cannot expose them to the obscene login pictures.

  • Changing user icon in OS X 10.8; "edit picture" button missing!?

Trying to change my user "avatar/icon/picture" displayed at the login screen.  Usually this is a straight forward process from SysPref --> Users & Groups --> click on the picture -> edit picture -> choose.
However I've either gone blind or the "edit picture" option is just missing from OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion which seems odd.  Anyone else have this issue or am I just crazy?

Drag and drop is intuitive from nothing. This is a change of an expected behavior to something very different from before. No first-time pop-up message for returning users, no backup "edit picture" button, nothing. That is poor design. Sure, now that I know about, it works great, but it should be made clear before the user gets to this point.
I agree fully about the new way to do this being really unintuitive. I bought an MBA 13 two weeks ago, which came with Lion installed. Setting it up was relatively straightforward, even though the old Macs in our house were running Leopard, so I had some learning to go through.
The MBA died after 10 days, before I had a chance to install Mountain Lion. I replaced it with a MBP 13 today. The Apple support information, OS X Mountain Lion: Add a user picture, still describes the procedure for Lion, makes no mention of this, and is useless. I just wasted an hour trying to figure this out, before stumbling on the answer in this thread (thank you, Fernando.S, for the answer).
At the moment, I am disgusted with Mountain Lion, which has thrown up one obstacle after another.
Just so you know, this is not the new way of doing it. It's always worked this way. And the method used, dragging and dropping, has been an essential part of the Mac OS since 1984.
It's probably not intuitive to some ex-windows users, because in 1984, they were still using menu commands in DOS. IMHO

  • Enable/disable/defaulting the radio button in tabular Form

    Hi friends,
I have one radio button column in my tabular form with 3 values for it.
    <li>FC
    <li>BC
    <li>EC
I need to enable/disable the radio buttons according to the position of the user.
If the position of the user is CEO means,
then FC radio button has to be checked defaultly and also for him he needs to have BC and EC radio buttons to be enabled.
If the position of the user is between(1-4) grades means,
then FC radio button has to be disabled, but BC radio button has to be checked defaultly and also for him he needs to have EC radio buttons to be enabled.
If the position of the user is between(4-6) grades means,
then FC, BC radio button has to be disabled, but EC radio button has to be checked defaultly.
How i can achieve this radio button enabling/disabling and defaulting it dynamically according to the user.
Where i need to specify this kind of restriction inorder to work for me in my application.

    Hi Bob,
thanks for your reply first, and your suggestion too.
I tried in the below manner on the lov definition of my radio button and it hide/shown according to the user who logs into the application.
    SELECT 'FC' d, 'FC' r FROM DUAL WHERE lower(:APP_USER) = (select lower(user_name) from apps.xxhy_ams_details_v where upper(job_name) = 'CEO')
    UNION ALL
SELECT 'BC' d, 'BC' r FROM DUAL WHERE lower(:APP_USER) IN (select lower(user_name) from apps.xxhy_ams_details_v where grade_name
    BETWEEN 1 and 4 OR lower(:APP_USER) = (select lower(user_name) from apps.xxhy_ams_details_v where upper(job_name) = 'CEO'))
    UNION ALL
SELECT 'EC' d, 'EC' r FROM DUALBut how i can check the radio button defaultly according to the user who logs in .
<li> If the employee with the position CEO logs into the application means, he needs to have FC to be checked defaultly.
<li> If the employee with the grade between(1-4) logs into the application means, he needs to have BC to be checked defaultly.
<li> If the employee with the grade between(5-12) logs into the application means, he needs to have EC to be checked defaultly.
    Note:
Instead of hide/show the radio buttons defaultly whether it is possible to enable/disable the radio button according to the user who logs into the application.

  • Third party SSO with a custom login module

    Hello everyone,
I've found a few posts on the forum with questions similar to mine, but none have been answered.  I'm using a 3rd party authentication product along with a custom implementation of the AbstractLoginModule interface.
The setup is standard: A 3rd party agent is installed on a reverse proxy web server to SAP. The agent is configured to protect SAP resources, and it handles the login screens and authentication. Once the user has been authenticated, the AbstractLoginModule implementation kicks in, decrypts and validates an SSO token, retrieves the username from it and creates an SAP Principal.
The login ticket template is configured as follows:
    1.  EvaluateTicketLoginModule   SUFFICIENT
                        2.  MyLoginModule                      REQUISITE
                        3.  CreateTicketLoginModule       OPTIONAL
One of the integration's key requirements is that direct interaction with standard SAP authentication must be avoided.  More specifically, the user should never need to enter an SAP password.  I'm only seeing two problems, both of which violate this requirement.
The first is in cases where there is no existing SAP user that matches the authenticated user.  In this case, the third party token and SAP Principal are created, the abort method is called, and the user is redirected to the SAP login page.   I need to either bring to user back to the third party login page or to a custom error page~.
The second problem occurs when an SAP password change is required. Again in this case, an SAP form is displayed after the module has created the Principal (although once the user changes the SAP password, all's well). If I were to disable mandatory password changes, would this apply to fat client access as well? If so, then it's not a viable option.
The general idea in both instances is that the SAP I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.
    Thanks
~ Since the SSO token applies to applications outside of SAP, I may add a login module parameter to make this a configurable choice. (I.e. allow the administrator to decide whether to inform the user that SAP authentication failed while preserving the SSO token, or to destroy the token and force re-authentication). However, if there is a way to configure the "bad credentials" URL outside of the module's code/parameters, it may be better to place the choice there.

    Hi Julius,
Thank you for the quick response - and on a Sunday, no less!
I have considered verifying that the user existed in SAP before creating the Principal.  One might argue that that would be the common sense thing to do.  The reason I've held off is that the error should be so rare that it may not justify the overhead.  There's a requirement to have a one-to-one username mapping between SAP and the authentication application.  It would be more efficient to assume that this requirement has been met and to handle the Exception when it hasn't been.  Of course, that doesn't mean that it's the right way to go.

For the first concern, if they can access the logon page directly (anyway) you could disable it as you do not want any password based logons (right?) and redirect it to your external page or an error page.
Yes, this is what I'm hoping to do, but I'm not sure how to do it.  Here are some comments and questions about this:
    1. What's involved in disabling the login page?  I would think you'd need to replace it with something else rather than just switch it off.   Could I limit this change to the login ticket template so that other templates (basic authentication, for example) are still available?
    2. Keep in mind that users will never get past the "real" login page unless they have been authenticated.  This complicates matters because we're dealing with a scenario in which the user has already been authenticated but doesn't exist in SAP.  Therefore, it wouldn't make sense to go back to either login page.
    3. What's involved in redirecting to an external page?  Is this an explicit redirect in the module code, or can it be decoupled from the module?  It's not a big deal, but it would be nice to avoid mandatory module parameters for relative paths to error pages.
I think the question I'm after is: "Can I simply change an SAP login URL parameter to point to a custom error page, and allow everything to work as it does now (where SAP handles the redirect)".  If so, could I limit the scope of the change to the login ticket template?  What would be even better is if I could configure SAP's response to this error.  Somewhere, it's currently configured to display the login page.  Ideally, I'd be able to configure it to display myErrorPage, and then set myErrorPage to the appropriate URL.

For the second concern, I assume that there are no valid passwords involved here which might have expired, so as long as the user does not have the option to activate a password again and anyway cannot logon via password as the option is not presented... then you should be fine here as well with a forward proxy. Not sure which Java APIs are offered here, but you could check this together with the existence check and react to both prior to accessing SAP "from the outside".
The problem here is that the SAP passwords are needed outside of the integration.  It's true that whether an SAP password has expired is irrelevant to the integration.  However,  this is a Web-based integration; SAP passwords must still be available to users who have access to other clients.  With this in mind, could I create a user password policy that disables password expiration and automatic password change, but only apply it to Web client access?  If not, do you know how I might override SAPu2019s behavior?
Once again, thank you for taking your time to help me out.  I am very grateful.

  • Where is the login picture (user image) stored?

I just re-installed my tiger system from scratch (boot camp issue) and finally managed to get the system almost identical to the one I had backed up. One minor remaining issue is the login picture. I liked the one I snapped previously and would like to select it again. Unfortunately, I cannot ascertain where these images are stored. I even created a couple of new ones from the System Prefs -> Accounts -> Picture -> Edit location and then did a spotlight search for images created since yesterday but nothing showed up.
Since I backed up my whole machine, I am fairly sure that I still have that old image around somewhere... Can anyone tell me where they are located (or what they are named)?
    Thanks
    Ben

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I can't check in my old system address book. Or at least I don't think I can (I'm at work now and can't verify this).
What I did was this: I backed up my entire drive to an external drive, wiped the internal drive, and re-installed OSX. I then manually copied all of my preferences etc. back to make my new system as identical to the old one as I could. I tried to use the migration assistant but since it didn't find any old systems (it didn't consider my backup a true system) it couldn't do the migration.
So, (and again I am at work and cannot verify this) I suspect that even opening my old address book app from the the backup wouldn't show me my old picture. But even if it did, how would I get it from there into my new system? That is why I am trying to find the actual location on disk where the file is stored (so I can navigate there in the backup and copy the file).
Thanks again for your help for what is really a minor and silly issue.

  • TS1702 I have apps with no sound only picture?

I have apps with no sound only picture? wheel on the bus is one.

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Picture Button Border Stay on in first Tab in Infopath

    Hi Guys,
I have created the Tab Navigation using Picture Button and View combination in InfoPath for the SharePoint List.
Has anyone come across an issue Border stays on the First Picture Button when another button is selected.
For example, When I select the Project Scope or Impacted Parties, border stays on the
Project General Info. See the snapshot below:
Any suggestion to fix this issue?
    Thanks.
    Cheers, Badal

    Try to use
    a:focus, *:focus {
    noFocusLine: expression(this.onFocus=this.blur());
That's the focusing border added by the browser. For usability purposes, it's usually a bad idea to remove it unless you are doing something specific. It's very difficult to select controls using the keyboard without it.
If for some reason you REALLY need to remove it, I believe the other answers here may provide you with a solution. But as someone often concerned with usability, I would advise you to reconsider.
If this helped you resolve your issue, please mark it Answered

When I export slideshows the result is a file with only the first picture then a blank white screen with music. Apple bug or am I missing the obvious?

Usually when the phone shows just the white Apple logo, it indicates an issue with the system software that prevents the phone from finishing it's boot sequence. When this happens, you will need to restore the phone, which removes all data and replaces the system software with a fresh set.
Since the phone is not seen in iTunes when it's in this state, you will have to put it into DFU mode for iTunes to see it.
To put the phone in DFU mode:
    - make sure the phone is connected to a computer with the current version of iTunes on it.
    - hold the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for 8 seconds.
    - let go of the sleep/wake button and continue pressing the home button. The iTunes screen will show a short progress bar then show a dialog box stating that an iPod was detected that is in recovery mode.
    -click OK
-click the Restore button in the middle of the iTunes page
After the restore the phone should be back up and running and you can sync your data back.
