Assistance with registering a cable modem.

Hi all,
Im hoping someone can assist me. I've been trying to register my cable modem for the past week after moving new address. Though i can register the modem and have waited the reguired 1 hour i keep getting the registration page.
I thought i woudl check the event logs on the cable modem and noticed the last event shows:
Time Priority Description
Time Not Established Warning (5) DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response ;CM-MAC=*removed*;CMTS-MAC=*removed*;CM-QOS=1.0;CM-VER=3.0;
Time Not Established Notice (6) Honoring MDD; IP provisioning mode = IPv4
The MAC address mentioned in the above event logs is correct but appears that something needs to be updated from Telstras side.
Is there something else that needs to be done?

Hey iborg,
I've removed the MAC listed in your post for security.
If this is continually giving your the registration portal it could be an issue with the back end. We'd need to investigate this for you. If you haven't already, give us a call on 133933 or speak to LiveChat: http://tel.st/gq6m. We can look into this.

When I visit a friend with only a cable modem internet my Mac Book Pro will not connect.
I see that the Mac Book Pro is picking up the internet when I check the internet preference section but it will not open Safari.
What do I need to do connect via a cable modem?

You need to power off the modem for 15-30 seconds, then power back up and then connect. The modem is remembering the last connection (your friend).

  • Trouble with Mac and Cable Modem

Every time I turn on my Mac I have to reboot my modem. I have to unplug every cable and leave for a few minutes before I can hook everything back up. Sometimes I even have to plug my modem into a different cable outlet to reset it. Is this an issue with my internet cable provider or do I need to adjust a setting on my Mac. This is has become very aggravating and any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ben.

I am having the same issue I think. I have a Motorola hooked up to my Airport Extreme. The last 5 mornings I haven't been able to access the internet. Yesterday I went and checked the lights on the front of the modem and noticed that only the top 2 were lit- the third one blinked. So I reset the modem. Worked fine the rest of the day. This morning I booted up my MBP and same thing. Looked at the lights- the third light is just blinking. Called Comcast and they checked. Said my modem was 'offline' and not connecting. Said that it had gone bad- I suspected so. Not too long ago we had to replace the old Apple router with a new one so I was guessing that the modem was bad and they confirmed it. So I will be shopping for a new one. FYI- reset the modem again this morning after talking to Comcast and it's working fine. Just thought I'd chime in. Judy

  • Trouble connecting AEBS with Cox & Motorola cable modem

I am able to set up my new AEBS however I cannot connect to internet. I am told via Airport Utility that I have set up correctly and have the steady green light and the wireless connection however it just won't pick up the Internet. I've called my ISP Cox Communications and they told me it's an issue w/my router. I noticed a similar problem in discussion boards with Comcast and followed the same instructions and it did not resolve. I've tried to power off cable modem for 10 sec, 2 min and 10 min and just no luck. I immediately plug back in my Linksys router and am able to connect to internet just fine.
    Anyone know what to do?

Power off your cable modem for at leat 10 HOURS! Cox like every other ISP "caches" the MAC address of your router. The only way to "reset" this and allow a new MAC address to be accepted, is to turn off the cable modem overnight for 8-10 hours.
Some routers have the ability to "clone" a previous router MAC address, therefore not requiring the above process, but the AEBSn does NOT have this capability.

  • Using a configured AX with a different cable modem

This is probably a dumb question but here goes:
I will be traveling shortly and will be staying in a home with High Speed Internet via cable. However, there is no wireless network as the cable modem is connected to the owners computer using an ethernet cable.
If I take my AX with me and connect it to the modem in the house via an ethernet cable, will I be able to use my current wireless network settings without having to establish a new network?
It seems to me that I should be able to do this but I am not really certain.
    Thanks for your help

If I take my AX with me and connect it to the modem in the house via an ethernet cable, will I be able to use my current wireless network settings without having to establish a new network?
If you connect to a cable modem now, you should not need to change any settings on the AX. But, you will need to completely reset the cable modem at the home before you connect the AX to it.
Push the reset button on the cable modem (if available)
Power it off immediately and power down the AX
Pull the battery (if easily accessible)
    Wait at least 15-20 minutes
Connect the AX to the modem with an ethernet cable
Power up the modem by itself and let it run a few moments
Then power up the AX the same way
Then power up computers and devices the same way.
You'll have to completely reset the modem again when you disconnect the AX in order for the modem to recognize the owner's computer.
In other words, whenever the device that is connected to a cable modem changes, you have to completely reset the modem first, or it will not associate with the new device.

  • My internet works fine with my wired cable modem, but when i connect to my extreme base station and setup my wireless network the internet no longer works and my apple tv by default

my cable modem works fine, but when I hook it up to my extreme base station and run through the prompts and set up my wireless network it doesnt work and neither does my apple tv by default. I am unsure how to correct this problem. It will come up saying that I dont have an IP address when I have it set to DCHP so I dont know what the problem is.

Push the reset button on the modem and power the modem off
Power off everything else....all devices....order is not important
    Wait 15-20 minutes or longer
Connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme
Power up the modem and let it run for 5 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme and let it run for 5 minutes
Power up each other device one at a time a few minutes apart
    Check the network

  • Using Leopard with Virgin media cable modem?

I want to upgrade to Leopard from Tiger.
I'm trying to find out if it is supported by my Virgin cable modem. It is the standard Virgin media one, via ethernet.
I can't find any information about Mac OSX systems on their site - what's new? And I'm waiting for a response from them via email. in the meantime, I thought I'd check here to see if anyone knows.

It should work fine provided you connect via Ethernet and not USB, as chances are there are no Mac drivers for the USB connection

  • How do I use a Netgear CM400 cable modem with my Time Capsule router?

I switched out my TWC modem for one I bought. I called and activated a CM400 Netgear modem with time Warner cable. They said it is activated and responding. My time capsule is on a green solid light but i can't connect to the Internet! Why??

Your previous setup may have been a modem router and the TC is connected in the wrong mode.. it should be dhcp and nat with a pure cable modem.. is it?
You also might need to put the TC into the correct mode.. then power off the modem for about 15min.. (try 5min first).. power up the modem.. wait 5min and then power up the TC .. it should grab the public IP and route that to the network.. reboot all the clients so they get fresh connection and see if that works.
If not give us a few screenshots from the airport utility of how the TC is setup.

  • Please help, I can't figure out how to use the cable modem...

I'm visiting my sister in Baltimore, Maryland for about 3 weeks, and I want to set up the internet on my macbook so i don't have to keep using her powerbook g4. She has a Motorola Comcast Cable Modem set up for her powerbook, but I can't figure out how to find the info about her connection so I can copy it down into my computer. I keep going to her system preferences section and clicking the network button, but none of the various internet connections shown are actually the one she uses to connect. Please tell me where I can find her cable provider's info in her powerbook and where, in my macbook, i can enter this information and get on the internet.
p.s. i don't know if this is necessary info, but with the motorola cable modem came an installation disk for if you wanted to use the usb drive cord instead, but that disk isn't even read properly in my macbook. like, it lets me open up the disk and see all the files on it but it doesn't automatically start up an installation wizard so i really have no way of installing the items on the disk.

well, i can't really tell if i am only allowed one connection with this isp. basically, whenever i plug in the ethernet cord, all of the information gets filled in in the ethernet section of the network, except for the router info. there is router info filled in on my sister's computer whenever i plug the cord into her computer, though. does that mean i can't also use the modem for my computer? sorry, this is both my first time using a mac and my first time using anything other than dial-up, so i'm pretty lost. thanks for the info you've given me thus far.

  • My 3000H will no longer connect to the internet via my cable modem - help please.

I have 3 computers and a media server on a Linksys router with a Comcast cable modem. Everything AOK. 3 weeks ago my Lenovo 3000H shut down and rebooted for no reason. Then I began getting popups while I was on the internet saying that I needed to click on a button to make a dial-up connection. I would hit X or Cancel to make it go away. It happend more frequently and other related popups started, but I could close them and continue normally. Last weekend It happened again but I lost my connection to the internet and it would not reconnect. Now I get a big error message "Connecting through Wan Miniport(PPPOE)... Error 815: The broadband netowrk connection could not be established on your computer because the remote server is not responding. This could be caused by and invalid value for the "Service Name" field for this connection. Please contact your ISP and inquire about the correct value for this field and update it in the Connection Properties..
I called Comcast. They don't have a clue what Error 815 is. I have changed every cable, rebooted the modem, router and all computers countless times, and reset the modem per Comcast. I have taken the router out and connected directly into the Lenovo. I have gone through every screen related to broadband connection to no avail although, being a beginner, I see screens that I have no clue what they do.I have a couple of friends and a Comcast fellow who tried to walk me through the steps they thought would restore my connectio. No luck.
Can anyone walk me through the necessary steps to get me back to ground zero and then through the steps to reestablish my broadband connection?
    Help Please?

In Safari, press on the Bookmarks icon and select History.  Then press on Clear History at the top of that menu, and see it there is any improvement.
If not, try unplugging your WiFi router for a few seconds.  Then reset the iPad's network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will need to reconnect the iPad to WiFi.

  • Cable Modem Selection

I have Mediacom as my isp.  I am about to purchase a cable modem.  I recently purchase an iMac with and i7 processor.
I am a recent Apple convert ..... and, not a techie.  However, I still have an old windows system in the house which I will still be using from time to time.
I have narrowed the modem selection down to either a Motorola SB5101 or SB5120 at the 2.0 docsis level.  At the 3.0 level, we have narrowed down the selection to either a SB6120 or SB6141.  However, I am not tied to any of them ..... I just want them to work fast and reliably with my computer systems.
Can anyone provide input on which modem will work well with apple and which one will work well with windows (maybe the wrong forum for this part of the question).  Also, I more than welcome other suggestions.
Mediacom says that their system will work with any docsis 2.0 modem.  As to 3.0, they want it to be either Cisco or Motorola (except the SB6121).

Your iMac will work with almost any cable modem. Most ISP's provide a modem at no charge or a very small rental fee, therefore I'd recommend contacting your ISP and using their recommended modem.

  • EA2700 not recognized by Cable Modem

I have an EA2700 (fimware "classic" 1.0.14.129982) that used to work perfectly fine with a Comcast cable modem.  I just recently switched to Charter with an Arris TM902 modem and that's where the problems started.  The cable modem will not recognize my router.  I have to plug in a computer into the cable model when it starts up.  Then I need to clone the MAC address and restart the router (after disconnecting the computer).  Why isn't the cable modem recognizing the router when I restart it?  I guess this could work if it would be a one time thing but I had to power-cycle the modem and it stopped recognizing the router even with the cloned MAC address.  So I had to do the whole spiel again.
Is there any way to make this work easier?  Should I update my router's firmware to the "smart" one?
    Any suggestions are welcome ...
    Thanks,
    Joe

Since you are changing ISP’s and using a new modem, best to reset your router back to factory settings. Press and hold its reset button down for 15 seconds and wait for the lights to stabilize. It is okay to enable the MAC Address Clone since most Cable Internet Service Providers for a router like you have would require it in order for the internet to work. Upgrading to the Cloud firmware is fine, too, that you will be able to take advantage as well of accessing your router from a remote location.

  • HP P1102w Wireless Printer will not pair with a Motorola SBG6782-AC Wireless Cable Modem Gateway

I previously had AT&T U-verse Internet using an Arris IPDSL NVG510 Wireless Modem Gateway.  My HP Laptop running Windows 8.1 and the HP LasrJet Pro P1102w Wireless Prnter routinely  & automatically connected to the NVG510 Wireless Network  without any problems over the past two years, and the wireless Printer worked without problems. I recently replaced the AT&T U-verse Internet connection with a 25 Mbs Comcast Xfinity Intrnet connection, using a Motorola Arris SURFboard SBG6782-AC Wireless Cable Modem Gateway.   My HP Laptop running Win 8.1 Pro connects to the Network and accesses the Internet with no problems what-so-ever;  However,  the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w wireless Printer does connect to the Wireless network and I cannot Print at all from my laptop. I have tried all the P1102w Wireless Printer Setup suggestions from the HP Printer Support Site, but to no avail.  I have also updated the Printer Firmware and Loaded the latest Full Product Installation & Driver Software.  I have tried and re-tried these suggestions over the last two days, but with no luck. I would greatly appreciately any help from the  experts  in this Forum.  to get the printer to work wirelessly, since we also  wirelessly print to this printer from  IPads and other wireless laptops.

Hi , I see that you are having issues connecting the printer to the new router. I would like to help you. I would reset the printer first to clear out any previous network settings.
Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise. Print out a configuration report and make sure the SSID and IP address are cleared.
Printing a Configuration Page. If the network name has any spaces or special characters, the printer may not recognize it. The printer is only capable of sending/receiving in the 2.4 ghz band. If it is set to 5 GHZ network you may need to change to 2.4 ghz. (rename the 5 ghz or shut it off)
The WPA key setting needs to be on AES to work correctly not TKIP.Multi casting needs to be turned on.
Firewall on router has to have open ports for printer.
If you have Mac Filtering you need to give printer hardware address from Configuration page. You might need to contact your router company for further assistance to check those settings. Try running the Wireless Configuration Wizard from the HP software to configure the printer over the network. If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. If you have any issues, please let me know what steps you have taken and the results. Thank You.

  • 10.5.6 setup on mini with USB nic, not receiving DHCP from WAN (cable modem

    Hello,
I'm probably in a little over my head thinking I could configure MacOS X Server without much IT knowledge. But I started, so I'm not giving up yet.
    Here's my setup:
    — cable modem ethernet connects to USB nic (the apple macbook air one) plugged into mac mini running 10.5.6 Server
    — ethernet on mac mini connects to switch
    — switch connects to airport base station set-up as bridge
    — in the future other computers will connect over ethernet to the switch (that's why mac mini isn't plugged into base station directly)
    Here's the issue:
    — cable modem uses DHCP (no fixed IP).
    — when first installing 10.5.6 Server, modem was connected directly to ethernet on mac mini, and picked up everything from DHCP, worked fine. Ran all the system updates (started with a 10.5 initial install)
    — after everything was installed, I switched the modem to the USB ethernet adapter and ran NAT setup assistant. configured the USB Ethernet as the WAN, Ethernet as the LAN, turned on VPN.
    — now the USB Ethernet won't pick up the DHCP of the WAN anymore. It did it once, and then never again.
    — I've run the NAT setup assistant to switch the WAN and LAN nics to see if the USB Ethernet was the issue, but with the same results.
    — This setup used to work although not quite stable on 10.5.4 server.
    My initial questions:
    — is the firewall blocking the DHCP?
    — is the LAN DHCP messing with the WAN?
    — in the previous version I had to set the replythresholdseconds from 10 to 0 in the bootpd.plist for it to hand out DHCP on the LAN, but there is no such entry in the pootpd.plist anylonger, and the keynet_address entry that was missing from the previous version of bootpd.plist is now present, so it seems the bootpd.plist has been fixed by apple.
    — what am I doing wrong? Why doesn't this just work as advertised...
I know there are several of you out there that have the same setup working (I found posts from hirstey and DigiAngel with the same setup) so it must be possible. All your help is much appreciated!!

    Thanks for your reply, DigiAngel.
DSL modems differ from cable modems as far as I understand. Where DSL modems are actually routers capable of NAT/DHCP, cable modems are just a network interface/brigde and can't do any of that. So it should pass the external IP to the computer. I'm writing on a laptop with the cable modem directly plugged into it, and it picked up the external IP etc. near instantly. The mac mini did the same before I ran the NAT setup assistant. I believe it picked it up once after that, but never since.
I had done a clean install, had the ethernet plugged into its internal ethernet port (en0) and was able to download all the system updates. Then plugged in the USB ethernet, I'm pretty sure it still picked up the IP there. Ran the NAT setup assistant and can't get anything to work anymore. Even with all services switched off.
So the modem is doing its job, but when I connect it to the USB nic the connection gets a self-assigned IP in about 3 seconds after seeing the cable is connected. The one time I've seen it get the right IP, it got a self-assigned IP first and then about 5 seconds later picked up on the correct IP. (And it picked up everything, including DNS server and search domains, which this laptop I'm writing on does not, although it works just the same).
Unfortunately, this laptop runs 10.4.11 which doesn't recognize the USB nic, so I can't test the adapter outside of the server environment. But I've had the genius bar test the adapter previously and it worked fine then, plus I've run the NAT setup assistant with the connections inverted (WAN over built-in ethernet, LAN over USB ethernet) with the same results: WAN gets self-assigned IP.
I've also tried configuring manual IP for the WAN from what I saw was given to this laptop (it kept the same IP even after being disconnected/reconnected, so I guess the IP for my modem won't change IP unless I reset it. Although I'm not sure if it's correct logic to assume the mac mini would pick up the same IP as well since I think that's actually tied to the MAC address and the IP doesn't belong to the modem but to the computer behind it).
Anyway, I'm not sure what to try next...
Hm. Wait, this might have something to do with it: the firewall logs the following:
    Mar 22 14:12:07 server ipfw[4997]: 65534 Deny UDP 73.227.220.1:67 255.255.255.255:68 in via en 2
Looking up 73.227.220.1 gives me dns1.inflow.pa.bo.comcast.net, clearly my provider's DNS server. Trying to get me an IP that my wirewall is denying? Turning off the firewall doesn't make it pick up the correct IP though... I have turned off all services and still just got a self-assigned IP.
