Associating Gmail with Mail Programs

I was able to scan documents from my wireless Brother printer to my computer, but when I wanted to email the document as an attachment I was told I had to associate gmail with Paint. How do I do that wth Windows 8.1?

Hi,
You cannot attach gmail with a software such as paint, you may associate it with a Mail Client program (such as Outlook as example).
I'm not sure about Brother Printers, with HP printers however you will need a mail client such as outlook to scan to email.
I would suggest verifying the erquirements with Brother, they surely know the best what is required for any feature of the software.

  • Help with GMAIL in Mail Program....

    Hi,
I am using the Apple Mail Program in Leopard and just picked up a Gmail account. I want to set up my Gmail account on 4 different computers work/home/laptop) that I access all the time and am hoping I can set it up so that wherever I check my mail it looks more or less like it does on Gmail.com with respect to the emails:
    1. All mail that I've deleted on another computer is gone from all the other computers when checking mail on those other computers. Is that possible??? Currently, I use a bellsouth.net account and a .mac account, and when I log on to any of the computers via the mail program, it gives me all of my 'new mail', whether or not it was deleted on another computer.
    2. Sent mail. Is there any way to send it on one computer's Mail program and have it show up in my Sent box on the other computers?
    3. Ditto on Trash and other folders
I did try to set it up my Gmail account using IMAP but I thendeleted the account on Mail because it looked 'weird'. I had a Mailbox in my Inbox for the Gmail account and then also another whole separate, duplicate Gmail account (with All Mail, Drafts, Sent Mail, Spam, Starred, and Trash Folders) further down the left side of mail. In testing an email to gmail account from my .mac account, the mail ended up in two places in my Mail and deleting one did not delete the others.
If this cannot work, I can just go to gmail.com. BUT, I so love MAIL that I am hoping there is a fix to all this.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

My recollection is that unless you are a paid Hotmail account member, you cannot use Mail. Do a search within the discussion group, as I am not an expert, but I recall not getting Hotmail for that very reason.
    Perhaps give gmail a try.....
That said....I still need some help with my posting! So please and thank you.

  • Help with sycning with Mail program

I use the Mail program on our iMac, which syncs with my yahoo account. However, the folders I have set up through the Mail program differ from yahoo and Mail simply syncs the emails themselves. How do I get my iPhone to sync with Mail instead of yahoo. I could only figure out a way to sync the iPhone with my yahoo account/folders instead of the Mail program & folders. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks.

Email account mailboxes and messages are not included with the iTunes sync process.
If you want mailboxes and messages synced, you need to switch to an IMAP account which is specifically designed to accessing the account with more than one email client. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
Creating a Yahoo account with the Yahoo account preset on the iPhone creates the account as an IMAP account, but Yahoo does not support accessing a Yahoo account as an IMAP account with any other email client.
Google supports accessing a Gmail account as an IMAP account with an email client on your computer and with the iPhone's Mail client. The same with a MobileMe account.

  • Help with Mail program

    Hello,
I am having trouble with my Mail program. Since turning on my computer this morning, I cannot get the program to respond. It will open, but it just sits with the timer going, and none of the emails show up. I have to do a force quit on it and do not know where to go (as far as settings etc.), or what I need to check into to figure out the problem. Does anyone have suggestions, or are familiar with the problem?
Thank you very much for any help,
    Keri

Check the console (in the Utilities folder) for errors.

  • Using Gmail with Mail.app and Notes

I have the preference set to store notes on Gmail's server. If I create a note on my Mac it just looks like a funny message through Gmail with the subject and the body the same and the sender as (Unknown Sender) which is no big deal but I would like to be able to create notes with Gmail because I have a G1 and use it constantly.
Is there a way to create a note with Gmail so that it shows up like a note in Mail.app?

Open the Print & Scan preference pane in System Preferences and delete the print queue, then add it back. If there's no change, reset the printing system.

  • Problems with MAIL program and Outlook

A friend of mine has been complaining that every time I send him an e-mail from my Macbook and Mail program that every attachment has an xxx.htm file sent along with it, doubling the number of files received.
When he tries to open this htm file it only opens a blank page.
Is this because I am sending from my Mac and he is receiving it on an older version of Outlook?
Is there anything that I can change on my settings that I can avoid this?

You can try sending plain text messages.

  • Problems with MAIL program and IMAP Password

I have had the same email and password for quite a while.  Now every time I open Mail it promts me enter my password agail.  It is the correct password but it keeps rejecting it.  It is only on my Macbook.  When I log into my mail via Webmail or get mail from my smart phone, there are no issue.  Sometimes it gives me the error, other times it works.
How do I correct this problem?

It is an IMAP account, so those emails should be fine.  How do I backup the ones I have stored "on my mac" in different folders. Or will they be deleted?
As long as you don't delete any emails in Mail or on the server, those emails will still be there, but deleting the account removes all of them from Mail immediattely, with no chance of recovery. If you have emails from the IMAP account in 'Smart Mailboxes', those are also affected; but any other accounts are not, unless and until you want to delete the account.
Keep in mind that there are times when Mail will be unable to connect to your mail server to retrieve mail; this is normal, and it happens to everyone from time to time. It is one possible cause of your password being rejected, but it usually clears itself within a few minutes, as it's a mail server issue, so you have no control over it.

  • Mail downloading gmail sent mail?

This could be a gmail thing and not a .mac but I can't find a setting in gmail that seems to account for this action.
I check my gmail with Mail and only occasionally use it to send stuff but when I do, at the end of the day, Mail seems to download a CC of the mail that I've sent (which I've not actually CCd or BCCd to myself). Does anyone know if this is a mac preference that I cant turn off somewhere?

Not sure what you mean. If those messages are being sent using Gmail’s webmail interface (which you haven’t made clear), this is normal Gmail behavior and Mail has no bearing on it.
Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies (#4 could be what you’re observing):
    1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
    2. To make already downloaded messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which causes everything (and I mean everything) still on the server to be downloaded again.
    3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone. In the case of Gmail (and only in that case), I recommend turning OFF Remove copy from server in Mail, so that Mail doesn’t even try to remove any messages from the server, regardless of whether you do actually want already downloaded messages to be removed from the server after some time or not.
    4. Messages sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were received messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
    5. Messages sent using a POP/SMTP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in #4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. Since they’re on the server nonetheless, already sent messages would be downloaded together with all the other messages on the server if proceeding as described in #2.
    6. A particular case of #5 are messages sent to yourself. Instead of putting a copy of the sent message in the server’s Inbox and making it available for download, both the sent and the “received” message on the server are actually one and the same, and hence, cannot be downloaded via POP for the reason explained in #5.
    7. Gmail allows POP accounts to be set up in a special way that avoids some of these issues while introducing others. If you only need POP access to the last 30 days of mail, you may configure Mail in “recent mode”, as described in Using POP on multiple clients or mobile devices. Configuring the account this way would allow Mail to download messages marked by Gmail as already downloaded (and download messages sent to yourself in particular), but it would also cause all sent messages (not just messages sent to yourself or through webmail) to be downloaded as if they were received messages.

  • The Finder's association of files and programs is messed up...

Hey everyone. A few days ago, after I woke up the computer from a sleep, everything stopped being able to open its own files through drag and drop to its dock icon. There are all kinds of strange phenomena like:
    — JPEGs now launch Illustrator
    — Textedit wouldn't open RTF files it created
    — Preview won't open anything
    — Can't drop PDFs onto iTunes (major hassle as I organize all my PDFs in iTunes)
I can't seem to fix things by using the trick of opening a file, associating it with a program, clicking "Change All.." The programs are no longer "recommended programs for that file type." I can select "all applications" and re-associate the files with the application I want to open them (RTFs should open with Textedit for example) but the fix doesn't work.
I am guessing that something is really messed up in some table in the Finder that associates filetypes and applications. Anyone know how to rebuild it? Thanks so much!

hi, this has been a nuisance for many years. It happens to me all the time, because I don't keep all my apps in the Applications folder in the main hard drive. I have 4 external drives, and keep my stuff 'logically' arranged with graphics apps and vector clipart, for example on one drive together. I then keep 3d apps with associated stuff on another drive, I keep movie and animation apps on another drive, and so on. The association works for a few days, or weeks, and then ultimately fails. I then just 'Get Info' reset the association the way I want, and tell the 'Get Info' window to 'Apply to All'. It's a pain in the neck, but I am so used to it by now - I assume I know what causes it, but I refuse to put all my apps together in one place. So I live with it. I do believe it's something Apple could fix, but it's hardly mission critical, so I guess they never will.

  • Using Mail Program with Gmail, Mail automatically bcc:s me on every email

I am using the Mail Program with my Gmail acoount. It works fine except Mail automatically bcc:s me on every email I send. I checked the Mail preferences and the box is unchecked in the composing section "Automatically cc: myself".
This does not happen when I use the Gmail.com web access, only when I send emails through mail.

  • What does this mean, and how can I stop this message from coming up constantly in my e-mail program? "Alert: Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (htpixel.adsafeprotectedtp) isn't associated with any program."

This just started last night, and it seems to be affecting the functioning of my e-mail program (Yahoo mail). How can I stop it?

  • How do I add a Gmail account to my Mail program

    Hi
Until now, I have only had @verizon.net email accounts. I now how a @gmail.com email account
I don't know how to configure my Mail program so I can receive gmail to my computer, and not have to get it using a Browser.
I have attended to configure, but it does not work: I get the following:
For Incomgin Mail Server I use:
    mail.gmail.com
    I get this response:
The POP server “mail.gmail.com” is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the “Incoming Mail Server” field. If it still doesn’t respond, the server might be temporarily unavailable.

First off Gmail supports "imap" which will allow you to keep your computer Mail app, and gmail account in sync. I would suggest you setting gmail up for imap instead of POP.
    1. Open Mail go to preferences, select Accounts.
    2. In the account window in the left pane "Accounts" press the "+" button at the bottom to add a new account.
    3. An Account window will appear asking for information, select IMAP for account type, Description put what ever you wish such as "Gmail IMAP" or if you are going to have more that one accunt fro gmail the "User Gmail IMAP", Enter your Name, and your new Gmail address ex. "[email protected]".
    4. Enter the information for incoming mail. In the incoming mail server box type: imap.gmail.com, Your user name should appear in the User Name box automatically if it is incorrect the correct it, enter your password that you use to access the mail from the web with gmail. Then press Continue.
If all the info is correct it will let you continue, as mail at that point actually goes out to that gmail server and attempts a login with that account and password, if it fails at this point then some info like your user name and password are incorrect. If it all goes well go to step 5.
    5. The next screen will be the Outgoing mail, in the Outgoing mail server: box type: smtp.gmail.com, select authentication and put in your username and password for that account like you did on the prev step. Then press continue. Mail will again go out to that server and attempt a log in to very the information. If all goes well then mail will come back with an account summary window, you can then press continue.
That should do it, if it doesn't work post back.

  • When running setup, I get"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.

whe I try to install Firefox 4.0.1, I get a Red X message. ""This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel. Is there a fix?

I Did that. When I try to install, I get the same message. I have come to believe this is a windows 7 or IE 9 problem. I also have active X problems that I can not resolve. I can not open Gmail also
