Assorment of problems. T_T

Ok! My name is Austin! /wave. I love Apple. From the Ipods to my first Apple II to my current Macbook. BUT! At the moment Ive owned my Macbook since November 30th, As of late the problems are stacking on top of eachother. My palm rest seem....yellow. Almost off gray. My CD drive scratches CDs if moved at all and I cant get the battery to stay charged. I plan to take it into an Apple store today but to tell you the truth..I really just am upset by the whole deal. So many little kinks. ;-( I should have used the money and gotten an Imac. (Wish they would swap it for me.) Anyone have any advice? Should I get it repaired and sell it? I mean I love it. I really do. But I use my computer so often that I really need it to shine. Anyone own a 17 inch 2ghz Imac? How do those hold up? Forgive me for rambling. Just nervous about my upcoming visit to the mac store. -Austin Foster

The discoloration issue is a known problem and Apple will replace the case for you:

It's unfortunate that you're having this collection of problems. It doesn't sound as if you've brought your MacBook in for any repairs yet. This is probably a good thing as if you brought it in after your first problem, then the next problem would have developed and you'd have to send it in again. Hopefully, all of the problems you are going to experience have shown up by now. I would suggest giving Apple a chance to repair them while you are still under warranty. Just be sure to provide them with as much detailed information as you can so they can properly troubleshoot your problems. If your drive is scratching CDs, bring in one of the CDs to show them.

If i change the WEIGHT_ULTRABOLD to WEIGHT_BOLD, it works, the text is drawn with BOLD style.
I wonder what is wrong ? I really want the BOLD to be 'bolder', thicker ^.^
Or is there any other approaches to this ?

I see the same thing.
The API for TextAttribute describes WEIGHT_ULTRAWEIGHT as
specifying "The heaviest predefined weight", but as you point out
you get plain rather than bold.
This bug (http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4920831)
describes the problem:
"Fonts can be created using TextAttributes in a Map. Unlike the standard
Font constructor, which just uses a boolean 'bold' bit in the style mask,
the Map can provide a range of values for WEIGHT. In JDK 1.4.2 and 1.5,
only the weight coresponding to WEIGHT_BOLD creates a bold font-- the
rest are plain. At a minimum, all values for TextAttribute.WEIGHT that are
greater than the value for WEIGHT_BOLD should also create a bold font.
"Furthermore, different weights should (to a point) result in fonts that
appear to be of different weights, even if there are no corresponding
underlying fonts. Fonts of increasing weight should display with a
corresponding increase in boldness.
"Changes in weight should not necessarily cause a change in advance.
Synthesized weight changes should impact advance minimally, if at all."
The evaluation claims that "WEIGHT >= WEIGHT_BOLD will cause a
Bold font", but I don't see it (compiled and ran basically your code
with 1.5.0_04).

Problem After Upgraded to a New SuperDrive! Help!!! T_T

I upgraded my old, and dead, Super Drive of my 3 year old 15' inch iMac G4 Flat Panel to a Pioneer DVR110D 16X DVD-RW Drive. After following the instruction from http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/iMacg4/imacg4takeapart.html and spending some $ on tools and parts. I finally put this monster-baby back together. I pushed the bottom and waited for the moment of truth. It was worth then I imagined. THE ONLY THING CAME OUT OF SCREEN IS A FOLDER THAT KEEP SWITCHING BACK AND FORTH FROM "?" TO "Apple Finder Icon". I accidentally found out it is the FIRMWARE booting mode. I only have two option..."mac-boot" and "return" then wait forever and nothing happened. And "Shut-Down"
Could anyone help me out!

Upgrading Problem. Need help ! T_T

Hi everyone.
First off i would like to explain my situation. I own a iMac G4 (Tiger, 10.4.11) and my dad owns a iMac G5 (Leopard)
I was hoping to be able to upgrade my iMac G4 to leopard but i proved unsuccessful. Upon placing the Leopard disk that came with the iMac G5 into the iMac G4, an installation window appears. I managed to reach to the point where an option asks you to restart, and upon boot up it reverts to a leopard based window. From there, the installation stops and the installation comes to a halt. Another window appears, asking for another restart. I did so, but the same process continues. I realised the problem stops only after using 10.4.11 boot up option. After which, i came back to a tiger based window. ( which is back to square one )
Not sure where i have gone wrong during the installation. Or is it even possible in the 1st place to upgrade a iMac G4 using a tiger to leopard?
I hope to have your feedback. It will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot. (:

Firstly the disk won't work because it is specific to the G5.
Secondly even if it did work you'd be in contravention of Apple's End User Licence Agreement (EULA) that states that the software can only be installed on one machine unless a Family licence is paid for.
If you want Leopard on the G4 you'll have to buy a retail copy.

Dell Inspiron 1525 Problems

Hello.
I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. I wanted to know if there is a way to install a fully working Arch Linux system on it. I tried with 2007.08 CD only to fail at getting the wireless card to work. Dell Inspiron 1525 comes with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini Card. I tried installing both the latest vista and xp drivers for this card via ndiswrapper. I thought all was well since I got the message that said that the driver is installed and the device was present. However, when I checked iwconfig, the normal 'wlan0' was not in the list, just 'lo'. Can someone help me with this?
Also, I used a ZenWalk liveCD to test out if I have sound support. It seems like the sound doesn't work either, but that may be because I used an old liveCD. The 1525 comes with a 'SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-MAJOR HD Audio' or also known as "High Definition Audio 2.0".
I have also learned that although Dell does offer this laptop with Ubuntu installed, they changed the wireless card on the ubuntu version. I don't know if that means anything. Also, I have heard of many who have gotten linux installed on this laptop. I have some experience with linux, but all of that is with a desktop pc. (Used Arch for the longest after trying out Gentoo ^^)
I checked the Ubuntu forums on this matter, and they seem to have a lot of documentation on it, but I am unsure if it will apply to Arch. Does Arch come with the bcm43xx drivers? If it does, then that means I have to blacklist it or something. I really need help.

Thanks for all of the replies. I downloaded the newest ISO and tried to get it working again. Well, b43 did not really work as I hoped it would, so I went and used ndiswrapper. To my astonishment, it works. Apparantly, something changed from the 2.6.22 to 2.6.24 kernels that made it so that the ndiswrapper module won't be detected with a broadcom card with the 2.6.22 kernel. This is all a guess, but it kinda makes sense. Only one problem though, I did all of the usual steps to set up the wireless connection... and it can't seem to connect to the internet... I did:
iwconfig wlan0 essid ********
iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
iwconfig wlan0 key restricted **********
ifconfig wlan0 up
dhcpcd wlan0
*I have tried this with other network cards, those on my desktop, and they worked fine.
When I do 'iwlist wlan0 scanning' , I detect all the networks that I expected to see, but it doesn't connect to any of them, which I think is really weird.
I don't really care much for vista, but I miss messing around with a decent CLI, and I will be majoring in Computer Science once I get into college, which would definately include classes on Bash scripting, so I wanted to get a linux install on my laptop since my desktop died. I have experience with Ubuntu, Gentoo (Stage 1 and Stage 3 installs.. Stage 1 was a giant pain and failed the first 4 times), ZenWalk, MEPIS, SuSE, Fedora, Arch, and some others. Of all of these, I liked Arch the best. So, I was really hoping I could get it installed.
Well, it seems I will be stuck with vista for a while... but I must say, it's not AS bad as I thought it would... still slow and all though ^^

Hello. Dual-booting is tricky stuff in my opinion. I have never done it myself, so I can't really help you there. But, there are plenty of documentation out there on it. According to http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/mediadirect.htm, DellMediaDirect is installed on a hidden partition. So, I'm guessing that as long as you don't touch that partition, it would still be there. What I think you would have problem with is where to put grub (or lilo). The safest thing to do, I would think, is to place it in a floppy, if you have an external floppy drive, or place grub into a USB Flash drive which you would be able to boot from. I have no idea how to do this in Arch, but I have done it before in SuSE. And as for Vista, as long as you don't touch the vista partition, it should stay the same. The booting is the only problem I can see for you. If the boot loader (grub or lilo) is installed in a separate medium (floppy/USB) then to boot into the linux partition, all you would have to do is boot from the medium, eitherwise, it would boot into Vista (or whatever you have that boots up first) automatically.. that is unless they changed something, and knowing how fast linux is developed, there are a lot of changes, so I'm not really sure if it still works this way.

I don't really mind the sound right now. If I can get internet to work, I know I can solve all the other problems later, as all I need to do is look up how to solve for it. But, yeah I know sound is muted by default in Arch. It's just that with my desktop, sound was automatically detected by other LiveCD's that I was confused when those same LiveCD's couldn't detect it. Again, this might just be that the LiveCD's use an older kernel.

Problems send string through Socket

I'm writing a simple chat.
The server-side, when receive a request from a client act in this way:
1_ Choose a random port between 8000 and 8100
2_ Verify if the port is alredy used (otherwise it randomize another port)
3_ Create a dynamicServer instance that listen at the new randomized port
4_ Communicate the port to the Client
The program doesn't have any problem with the point 1, 2 and 3.
But for some reason I can't explain, it doesn't communicate with the client.
Can you explain me why? (I can't work it out by myself T_T)

As I indicated, this is a pretty common misconception. The uniqueness of each socket is made using several pieces of information, the host and port on one end and the host and port on the other end. One of these pieces of information must be unique. How this is handled is that the client is generally speaking assigned a random port by the client TCP implementation (aka the OS).
At any rate you don't have to go through these gyrations, the sockets returned from ServerSocket.accept will all be unique. TCP already does that for you.

X, (big )problem

I guess this would be the correct place to post this...
I have been using Archlinux for a while now, without problems... Well, now I have a problem, and I don't know how to fix it. It seems that X is creating many extra pixmaps during idle. At first I thought it was an error with one of my projects (I do some X programming), but I eliminated this by rebooting followed by letting it run overnight without any of my apps running. I woke to find all of my memory (1 gig) eaten by X and around 300 megs of my swap. I then decided to downgrade my graphics driver (fglrx) no luck.

Found it. Caused by automatically updating the background with Esetroot.

Somehow the iPod started the Assorized test and it is completed. Most likely due to a bad and dying battery which need to be replaced.
To get out of the screen, Just Reset the iPod - Press Menu and Center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
The diagnostic might trigger again, until you get the iPod overhauled by Apple or 3rd party vendors.

Problem 1402 and 1603, Cant create key

When I install iTUnes 5.0.1.4 I get this weird problem.
Error 1402. Could not open key: >HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\.cdda\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe.
Verify thay you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Then a window with the text:
Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
The problem is that I have read that you should do a backup or create that registry, but the problem is...
I cant delete it, or add new keys in it.
The computer says:
You cant open .cdda. An error occured when the key was opened.

hmmm. when i see strange 1900-range errors and references to .ocx in error messages, i start to worry about antivirus and antispyware packages interfering with the install. (those packages have also been known to cause problems on the QT 7 part of the itunes 5.0.x installs.)
switch your antivirus and antispyware packages off prior to any uninstalls/installs.
we'd better get rid of your current itunes 5.0.1.4 and QT (they may have been damaged during the compromised install). try the "complete uninstall" instructions given here:

then let's try downloading and saving a standalone QT 7 to your hard-drive. (we'll run the installation from there rather than online.) there's a link to a standalone QT 7 installer inside here:

if that installs correctly, reboot, download and save an itunes 5.0.1.4 installer to your hard drive, and run that install from your hard drive too.

I need a sqlscript where I get the records with MAX(SERVICE)
In this example

Problem on how to create a .h file in a java package !!

Hello,
Please help me!! I have a problem generating a header file inside a java package. As I do not think eclipse IDE can do that, I then have to use the command as following in the command prompt instead.
D:\myJava\workspace\myJNI\bin>javah sysHookJNI/PollThread
javadoc: error -Illegal package name "sysHookJNI/PollThread"
sysHookJNI is my package name and PollThread is my class name. I think it should works because I compiled it with similar format as>java sysHookJNI/PollThread.java and it outputs the PollThread.class, but in fact it doesnot !>_<.
Can anyone suggest me what I should do?

But after I got that point my old problem is still not solved with that. After my sysHookJNI.PollThread.h is generated, I compiled everything over and then run Test by

i want to change grant detail in Student Master Data when i choose disbursement type to Pay Fixed Amount
and then go to Grant Evaluation Run it have result
But when i choose another disbursement type such as
1. Pay Up To a Certain Percentge
2. Pay Certain Percentage Up to a Certain Amount
3. Pay Up to a Certain Amount
and go to run Grant Evaluation it can run but not have result

Our problem is still not fixed, but we have contacted SAP to have a look at this problem. In the mean time we have created a new way to calculate the grants by doing no check at all, because our client don't want to have prerequisites yet.
Therefor we made a custom function module from PMIQBP_GR_COND_EVALT_01. If the boolean ev_xok is true the system will calculate and post the grant amount.

N78 Window Transition and Update Problem

Hello!
I finally updated the firmware of my N78. However, I noticed that not all features are functioning well. One would be the volume control. Before, I use the upper side buttons to control it when my phones either on standby, using the radio or using realplayer. And, the transition from the portrait mode (phone's normal mode) to landscape mode (mode for viewing pictures, videos, and when using the camera) is gone. Before, the screen rotates. Now, when i press my camera button, my phone goes to camera mode but the screen does not rotate.it only fades with some nasty random lines transition. actually i dont call that a transition. the same goes when i view my pictures and my videos. there is no window transition. is there a problem in my phone. what should i do?

thank you for replying mark_kehl!!! it seems that your solution worked. however, i still have other problems like the volume control button. sometimes, my phone suddenly halts when i am using music player. hmmmm... i believe that my phone is really defective. Nokia has already advised me to return this phone to the store where i bought it but... unfortunately, i dont have time. i am traveling very often and there are more important business to attend to than returning my defective phone.isnt it that nokia should really check its products before being they are put to the market. i am really bothered about this. i mean, as far as i know, nokia has the largest market share when it comes to mobile phones and related electronics... but i'm sure... because of these minor imperfections... its fellow competitors in the market will grab those unsatisfied costumers. anyway, its not my concern. i'm planning to sell my phone next year and probably, i'll buy an LG, Samsung or Sony-Ericson phone. it seems that i overestimated nokia. i committed a fallacy: argumentum ad populum... hahahahaha.
oh... it seems it is time for me to travel again...

When I switch between apps, when I switch between photos and when I sign into the phone after the LockCode entryI get a bright burst of light like an old-fashioned lightbulb flash between the apps and also when I turn on the iPhone the light burst is seen again after I enter the LockCode. My screens are now crashing if I'm working on a word document if I'm looking at a photo or whatever I'm doing it's like the screen just kicks me out and I have to restart the app or the project again. I have an iPhone 5. These issues just started yesterday after I did the new upgrade for the iPhone. Has anyone heard of these problems before having to do with the new upgrade? Does anyone know how to resolve these issues or do they know if Apple is currently working on a fix them? Any information concerning his problems would be appreciated.

Somehow the iPod started the Assorized test and it is completed. Most likely due to a bad and dying battery which need to be replaced.
To get out of the screen, Just Reset the iPod - Press Menu and Center Button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON.
The diagnostic might trigger again, until you get the iPod overhauled by Apple or 3rd party vendors.
