Assumption of Liability Process

Just curious how this goes. Looking on ebay at plans and there are many claiming to do a AOL and keep unlimited data. I'm sure it can be done but verizon states it can make you change to the share plans when doing so. Anyone had problems keeping there unlimited data? Also what are the steps to do so (he calls, then I call, blah blah blah...)
Thanks guys

An "Assumption of Liability" means that you will assume another's account as your responsibility.  You absorb their line into your existing account.... this presumes that you have a Verizon account and that it is a plan that will allow adding a line without changing the plan.
With all the changes recently, it can get complicated - and keeping unlimited data is becoming more difficult to do.  IF the line you are "assuming" has unlimited data (the $29.99 variety,NOT the old Connect plan) AND your current plan has the ability to add a line (it's one of the family share plans and you already have multiple lines with at least one slot free) then you MAY be able to add the line via AOL and keep the unlimited on that line.
Most other scenarios will result in the loss of the unlimited data and a conversion to the a Share Everything plan.
And the process - go to a Verizon store, both you  and the person whose line you want to "assume" - both of you agree to the assumption and sign paperwork to that effect.  I'm not sure how it's done over the phone, I think it needs to be done in person.

  • Can upgrades be transferred along with assumption of liability?

My fiancé is going to assume liability of her phone line and have it transferred to my billing account (from her parents' account). Is it possible for her to transfer the upgrade and purchase an iPhone at the discounted cost after being transferred to my account?

When you do an assumption of liability, the upgrade eligibility transfers as well - however if there is less than one year remaining, the term will be increased to one year.  If more than one year, the terms remain the same.  If her upgrade is due very soon, it may be better to wait,do the upgrade on her current account, THEN do the AOL once she's done her upgrade.
This is a process known as Assumption of Liability (AOL). In order to perform an AOL, all of the following requirements must be met:
    Current Account Owner
You must ensure that the balance on the account you want to transfer is current. You will continue to be responsible for account charges until the transfer has been completed.
If the line you are transferring is the primary line on a Family SharePlan® or the only secondary line on a Family SharePlan, the remaining line(s) must be placed on eligible calling plans prior to processing the account transfer. Please contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 for assistance.
You must contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 to authorize the account transfer and provide the name of the person who will be taking over the account.
New Account Owner (person taking over responsibility for the account)
You must read and agree to the Verizon Wireless Customer Agreement Terms and Conditions prior to assuming responsibility for the account.
If the line you are taking over is being added to an existing Verizon Wireless account, your account must be current.
If you agree to the Customer Agreement Terms and Conditions and up to a one-year contract term, you must contact the Assumption of Liability Department at (888) 832-4540. A representative will assist you with completing the AOL request.
Note: Your service assumption will be subject to a credit check. You may be required to switch to current pricing and promotions. A security deposit may also be required.

  • How does Assumption of liability work?

I have my own plan with just my line on it, I want to join a friend who also has a plan with verizon. Is this possible with an "assumption of liability"?

Let's make sure you can join forces with your friend, tksmalley! Thanks to tidbits for confirming the details. You will be able to complete and Assumption of Liability as long as your account is in good standing and you do not have an active Edge device payment agreement. You would start the process by calling 611 from your cell and provide authorization for the other user to assume the line. Please let me know if you have any additional questions of concerns.

  • Assumption of Liability before or after I upgrade my device on my current account?

I am currently on a grandfathered unlimited data plan on my own.  On this plan, I am eligible for my 2 year phone upgrade and I would like to get an iPhone5. I am also planning on transferring to onto a shared plan with my fiance in the near future (she is also currently on a grandfathered unlimited data plan).
I have a few questions around this situation:
-Should I upgrade my phone now and then transfer the assumption of liability to her after, or should I transfer into her account and THEN upgrade to the new phone?
-Will I retain unlimited data if I transfer assumption of liability to her and add myself as a line on her account?
-Will I need to pay a cancellation fee to my current account if I add myself as a line to her account?
If anyone can help me not senselessly throw away money, it would be much appreciated!

Upgrade first, make sure that's all squared away, then do the transfer.  If you transfer with less than a year left on your current contract, as far as I understand it, your contract term is extended for one year before you can upgrade.
-Will I retain unlimited data if I transfer assumption of liability to her and add myself as a line on her account? I don't know.  I've heard both scenarios but have not had any direct experience to know for sure.  If you upgrade prior to the transfer, or at any time after the transfer, you will lose unlimited data.
-Will I need to pay a cancellation fee to my current account if I add myself as a line to her account? No, transfer or assumption of liability will not incur an ETF or cancellation fee.
If anyone can help me not senselessly throw away money, it would be much appreciated!

  • Is there anyway to do an Assumption of Liability and port my number to a new company?

I want to do an Assumption of Liability but I want to keep my current number. Is there a way to do this?

An AOL means you're staying with VZW and as long as you pass the credit check. If you want to port to another company you should visit their store and do the business. There is no need to do the AOL with VZW unless you're staying with VZW. To port you would need the account number from the account holder and you should do the right thing and pay any ETF to the account holder.

  • Assumption of Liability

I am trying to figure everything out with this Assumption of Liability. What I want to know is when I change everything over to someone else's name and take my line and start a separate contract, is that contract considered a new contract and start over from there? Or does the rest of the contract from my line go with it and even though  it is a "new" contract, my old contract end date will stay the same? And if so, on the new contract, will I be able to get a new phone at the discounted price like with all new contracts or not?

Each line has a contract. If you currently have two lines, and someone does an aol for one, leaving one line for you, it continues with the same terms as before. The aol'ed line also keeps the same terms it had

  • How can I do a assumption of liability transfer and still keep my number?

I want to do an assumption of liability transfer for the two lines on an account, but I want to port my numbers to a new carrier before the contract is transferred. How do I go about doing this? Thanks
    -Aaron

There are 4 lines on an account, two are month-to-month, and two are in contracts until next year. The two month to month lines would have their numbers ported to another carrier and Verizon service canceled.
We want to transfer just the two contracts to another person with an AOL and transfer our two phone numbers to that other carrier for us to keep.
Other carriers charge less than Verizon, and don't lock us into contracts, or charge high rates for data.

  • Assumption of Liability Headache

Originally, my fiance started a share everything plan in her name with our two lines. I still had an active line that I was in the process of transferring at the time so we established in her name. After I successfully transferred my line away, we stopped by a Verizon store in order to transfer the share plan with our two lines to be under my name in order to be able to get the employee discount I receive as a Department of Defense civilian. They told me that they had transferred the lines and that I would need to re-register on My Verizon for online access. However, when they accepted my paystub to apply for the discount they did not know which selection to make for the discount program. They selected one almost at random saying it will either apply correctly or at worst get rejected and I would have to apply online.
The next day I attempted to register as an account owner on My Verizon only to find that I am not allowed to and that the information I'm entering does not match what Verizon has on record. After MANY calls with customer service, I was told that my address information and social security number etc. are all what they should be, yet I STILL cannot register as an owner. After yet MORE calls, I am finding out that SOMEHOW our two lines have become split up, both I THINK under my name but who knows at this point. At least one of the lines, mine, seems to be flagged as a business account as if I opened it on behalf of the government for government business. I am now continually told that the only person who can help me is a local business account POC. I have of course reached out to this person who has to wait for an answer from someone higher up that so far has not come.
ALL I would like is to be able to simply have the two lines under my name as a PERSONAL account as it originally was. As of right now I would not be surprised to receive TWO bills as if I now have TWO separate share everything plans. There must be an easier way of resolving this! I'd opt to have the discount wiped out so I can manually apply online myself using my work email since it seems too complicated of a procedure to do in person with store associates! How can I set this right? I'm tired of all these phone calls that don't ultimately resolve anything, despite many of the representatives being very friendly and helpful. They too are baffled as to what is going on here, and I don't blame them, they have tried their best!

tprice84, we want this to be an headache for you. You will need to reset the password on your online My Verizon account. Please click http://bit.ly/xB4iTc and select forgot password. A temporary password will be sent to your wireless phone via text message. Once you have accessed your account online, you may sign out.
Next, click http://vz.to/1bvI47Z to start the registration of your corporate discount. You will be asked to enter your military e-mail address or upload a copy of your pay stub. Once your information is verified, the discount will be applied to your account. Keep us posted. We're here to help.

  • Transferring single line w/unlimited data with Assumption of Liability...?

I can't seem to get a straight answer from anywhere on this.
I'd prefer a response from a Verizon rep - customers helping out around here are giving mixed answers as well.
If I transfer my contract to my friend, which has unlimited data on it (smartphone plan), will the unlimited data transfer with it
    Thanks!

I got that phone number directly from this link on the Verizon Wireless support page. It also states for the new account owner and I quote,  "Note:   Your service assumption will be subject to a credit check. You may be required to switch to current pricing and promotions. A security deposit may also be required."

  • Questions about Assumption of Liability and device to be used for unlimited data plan

This is my first post on here. I have an opportunity that someone I know is willing to transfer his smartphone plan with unlimited data to me. I have read extensively on here and other sites and gathered some information, and also heard of many complications and questionable losses of unlimited data plans when making various types of changes to devices or services. Some of what I read may be outdated as well if Verizon has made changes in their policies, so I will start with the most obvious question: as of this date, is an AOL possible while keeping the unlimited data plan intact?
If so, here are some other questions I have:
-Will I receive a new SIM card by mail or do I need to use my friend's old SIM card?
-If my ultimate end goal is to use laptop, do I have to connect through a smartphone (and is there any additional charge for that, or would it change the plan), or can I put the SIM card in a mobile hotspot such as the MHS291L and use only the data portion of the plan?
-After getting the plan, is there any way I can get TWO SIM cards - one for a mobile hotspot, and the other strictly for voice and text? If so, how much extra would that cost?
-If we went to a Verizon store to do this transfer or AOL, how can we be absolutely certain it goes smoothly, that no one makes any unauthorized plan changes and does not lose the unlimited data? I have unfortunately read some horror stories of it being lost in similar situations, no one seems to be accountable, and it winds up costing someone countless hours of struggle with Verizon to try to get it back (whether they are successful or not I don't know).
-If at some point the SIM card was lost (such as if I lost the device), can it be replaced without affecting the plan?
For what it's worth (especially for those working for Verizon), I am not looking for a way to hog up absurd amounts of data but simply to be able to do the basic stuff I need to online and maybe watch a movie once in a while without having really huge bills. Even if I used the internet without giving data consumption a second thought, I doubt I'd go much over 25-30GB most months.
Thanks to whoever can provide me with information.

Hi NicandroN_VZW, sorry i did not see your reply in time but thank you just the same. I called the number for the AOL department and they were able to help me with it pretty easily and answer most of my questions
I do have a couple other questions regarding the unlimited data plan on smartphones. I have seen various comments regarding these things online, and i can make a good guess about what "might work," but i'm really looking to know Verizon's official policy on these things, if one exists. In case any non-verizon employees are able to provide this information as well, if you have references to where i can find it in writing that would be helpful.
First, i realize there is an optional $30 fee for mobile hotspot use. But does Verizon have any policy about whether this fee must be paid if i connect only via a USB cable (since it would not actually be a "hotspot," and could not connect multiple devices)?
And my other question is, if i do opt to pay the $30 hotspot fee, is there any policy either for or against using that SIM card in a 4g hotspot such as the MHS291L?
PS i am asking these things here rather than by PM because, given the wide range of opinions which can be found online and that others have looked into similar things, i am sure other people could also benefit from knowing Verizon's policy regarding these things.

  • Assumption of Liability question.

So I'm planning on performing an AoL on 3 accounts.  We'll call them accounts 1,2, and 3,
A person on account 1 wants to move to account 2.  And a person on account 3 wants to move into the now open spot on account 1.  I'm in charge of account 1.  What would be the easiest method to go about this.  Do we need to do all the AoLs at once?  Or can we just do 1 to 2 then do the 3 to 1 later?
Account 1 is still on an old unlimited data family plan,  accounts 2 and 3 are on the newer plans.  How will this affect my family plan, if at all?  Thank you.

That's a lot of moving around!  It may be easier to do this in stages to be sure it all ends up as you envision.  Are these all family plans with at least 3 lines?  If any are family plans with 2 lines and you remove one, it will move to an individual line....
A person on account 1 wants to move to account 2. I'm in charge of account 1. Account 2 owner will need to do an AOL for the line on account 1.  You will need to agree to this. If the line has unlimited data, it will likely be lost as the line is moving to a "newer plan" - your words which I take to mean a Share Everything plan.
And a person on account 3 wants to move into the now open spot on account 1.  You, as account owner, will do an AOL (with permission from Account 3's owner) for that line - if it is a smartphone line, it will  have a tiered data plan added to your "old" family plan (Nationwide?)  There is no longer any unlimited data - especially as you would be adding a new line; it would have to have the tiered data.
What would be the easiest method to go about this.  Do we need to do all the AoLs at once?  Or can we just do 1 to 2 then do the 3 to 1 later? I would split off 1 to 2; let that settle in, THEN do the 3 to 1.
Account 1 is still on an old unlimited data family plan,  accounts 2 and 3 are on the newer plans.  How will this affect my family plan, if at all?  Thank you.  What is the "old unlimited family plan"?  Nationwide, with shared minutes, text, individual data plans?  Or even older?  The old Connect plan?  If it is the old Connect plan, you'll need to move to the Nationwide when you add a line, I believe.

  • Single line assumption of liability

can i transfer a line with  unlimited data on it to a new account if im not an existing customer if i use my own handset (no extension to the contract)?
    Thanks!

Thank you for clarifying, MichelleG.  I had almost the exact same question.  Can you explain how to make this change if the line with unlmited data is currently the secondary line in a family plan?  We have:
Line 1 (primary) - no data
    Line 2 (secondary) - unlimited $29.99/month data
These two phones share the 550 nationwide minutes (loyalty) plan and line 2 has texting package of $10/month.  There is a 15% employee discount on voice for the primary line amounting to $7.50/month.
Both of these lines are on month-to-month (not under contract).
We would like to cancel Line 1, and we DEFINITELY want to keep the unlimited data package.  We do not intend to upgrade that line with a subsidized phone.  What do we need to change as far as the voice plan?  In what order do we do all this?  Will we be able to apply the employee discount to the new line?
We were essentially lied to by a Verizon corporate store rep when we renewed our last contract just over two years ago, so we are trying to check and double-check this information.  We are not interested in starting a new contract.  Thanks for providing clear answers!

  • What is the process for separating two numbers?

My phone line has been on my dad's account and we would like to separate them into two accounts so I have my own. Awhile back we went into a Verizon store and they said it had to be done over the phone and we never have got around to doing that. Has this process changed, if not what is the number we need to call? Thanks!

Assumption of Liability process can be completed at a corporate Verizon Wireless store or by calling Customer Support at 1-800-922-0204 from a landline or *611 from the account owner's cell phone.

  • Switch phone numbers with a family member on a different plan

    Hello!
I have a Verizon cell phone plan and my mother has a separate plan. A few years ago my mother got a phone that she absolutely hated so I agreed to take her phone and she took mine. What ended up happening is that she has a phone that I technically pay for each month under my plan and I have a phone that she pays for under her plan. We are both at the end of our contracts now but I want to switch the phone numbers to the proper plans so we pay for our own phones. This is especially important since she wants to cancel  her account and go to a different carrier but I want to stay with Verizon.
How do I go about doing this? If she cancels her plan is there a way I can keep the number but bring it to my account and how will this affect my upgrade? I think my mother would also like to bring her current number (the phone under my account) to her new carrier.
Thank you very much for any help you can give me!

        Hi irishpat87,
Let's explore options to complete the number swap! As indicated by others (thanks!), doing an Assumption of Liability is a way to accomplish what you want to do and since you are at the end of your contracts (as per your original post), contract length carries over as is. I trust that this will answer your questions fully. Please visit this link http://vz.to/187wQRK for details on the Assumption of Liability process.

  • Can you negotiate on second year of 2 yr.contract?

I committed to a 2 yr Ultimate bundle. I am receivng a $30/month discount for the first 12 months. When I signed up there was a hint, but not a promise, that after the first year I could renegotiate so that my bill wouldn't increase $30/month. Has anyone reached the end of the first year and tried to work out a new deal to receive continued discounts on the second year? Thanks.

You paid for 2 year pricing on a phone, there is no switching to a different contract. As far as I know, Verizon Wireless only does 1 year contracts right now for Assumption of Liability processes anyways.  And if you add insurance (you have 30 days, not 14) for 9.99 it sounds like you would be getting Total Equipment Coverage which bundles standard insurance and an extended warranty. The extended warranty covers device defects for free replacements while insurance covers physical damage and lost/stolen phones for a deductible.  Weth did mention AppleCare+ but I would definately research it further as last time I checked, it didn't cover accidental or water damage.
