Asus A7N8X Deluxe vs Ti 4200

Ok.... Just got my upgrade "stuff" in excited as h***! :P
Asus A7N8X Deluxe MB with AMD 2600.  Had some issues getting the 2600 to recognize properly, but fixed.
Decided to install XP-pro (vs 98SE)  Had a bunch of hardware needed reinstalling with the correct drivers from Asus... fine working!
Now, trying to install the VGA drivers for the G4 Ti4200. But the program won't run.... I try going to the device manager and install drivers, no!  Everything I try doesn't work... forcing an install of the driver-no! Deleting the "standard VGA" allowing it to 'resee' it-no!  Even tried reinstalling with 98SE... get the same problems.
I noticed that someone had posted that a 300W powersupply wasn't enough... could that be keeping XP-pro/98SE from seeing the card correctly?
HELP ;(  almost $600 worth of parts, and I may have to go back to my old Matrox?
James

I advise you to do what I did: return the card to the shop. I have had similar problems with this card and the Asus A7N8X Deluxe MB. It just doesn't work. Don't worry too much about the rubbish you hear about your psu: my shop assured me that 300W = more than enough! Don't listen to other stories such as the brand of your DDR is not good. A card must do it's job. When there are specific requirements such as more than 300W it should be written on the box, or at least in the manual!
Try another brand, think again before you buy not A-brand components. I have learned my sad lesson...

  • NX6200-TD256 and ASUS A7N8X Deluxe MB

    Machine Specs:
    Athlon XP 2400+
    ASUS A7N8X Deluxe MB
1GB Geil Memory PC4200 (I think might be bit slower 512x2)
Old Video Card MSI Ti4200 (64MB)
    Running WINXP SP2
    CDRW and DVD-Burner
    Couple of ATA133 HDD
    19" Acer LCD (DVI)
    Fairly simple setup!
I just bought what seems to be an AWESOME video card and got all excited and pulled my old MSI Ti4200-64MB card, istalled the NX-6200-TD256 and fired up the machine and NOTHING - nada - no beeps - nothing - seems like the hard drives were firing but nothing on screen.  I plugged in reg VGA and DVI cables - still nothing (rebooting machine each time).  I said hmmm... maybe something in the BIOS or I MAY have shorted something (highly doubt it) - put the old card in and it fires right up!!  So I say hmmm... let's look at the BIOS and see -  changed primary video to AGP and 8X is enabled and changed the AGP mem from 64 to 256 (don't know what this option does but did it).  Saved and shut down PC - replace card - still nothing - no beeps - nothing - system "feels" like it is booting but nothing on screen.  Also no initial "BEEP" as it posts (I get that with the Ti4200 but not with the 6200).
    No here are my questions!:
    1.  Is there a known compatibilty issues with the Asus board?
    2.  Is there something I missed doing or am I missing a step?
    3.  Could this card just be DOA?
Any suggestion, thoughts, ideas would be welcome!!  I am trying to avoid shipping the card back to get a replace if I am the idiot and am making a mistake!

OK - got a NEW card as a replacement and still the same results!!  Aaaaargh!!
Ok here are some details in my BIOS that *MIGHT* be throwing things off.
    I have these setting:
    AGP Fast Write [ENABLED]
    8X Support [ENABLED]
    AGP Frequency [AUTO]
Graphics Apecture Size = [64MB] --> Setup for old card (I can change it to 256MB for new card)
AGP Speed Spectrum = [DISABLED] --> Choices 0.50%
These might be more of what I need to change but I don't know what I should try.
    VDDQ Voltage = 1.5V --> Choices are 1.5V, 1.6V, 1.7V
    DR Reference Voltage = 2.6V --> Choices are 2.6V, 2.7V, 2.8V
    Please ANY Ideas!!!

  • Audigy 2 ZS Platinum & ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe SATA controller prob

Recently I have been in the process of reinstalling my rig onto a new 50GB Raptor since my current installation has seen better days. Unfortunately, it seems that one of the problems has not gone away with the new install. Maybe the updated drivers are a case of the cure being worse than the disease but whatever the reason, the problem is extremely irritating.
Whenever I try to do any of the following, and any SATA dri've is "thinking", I seem to get fizzing or popping noises in sync with the HDD activity light on my case, only when an SATA dri've is "thinking" or being accessed. ?
Using any EAX Advanced HD effects like Environments<
    Using CMSS 2<
Invoking the onboard Dolby Digital or DTS Decoder (i.e. using SPDIF setting in Power DVD so DD or DTS signals get upmixed to 6. rather than rely on the software decoder)<
Playing a DVD Audio Disc at full 24/96 setting<
Playing any Fruity Loops mix using the ASIO 24/96 setting with lowest latency<
or any combination of the above at a time.
This problem is even more blatant when invoking a virus or spyware scanner like Windows Defender. When I previoulsy had my IDE 60GB Hard disk connected and I am currently using a USB 2.0 WD MyBook ES Edition and whenever these dri'ves are being accessed or written to, no noise is apparent. When I used this sound card on my really old rig with IDE hard disk I had no popping or fizzing noises unless the system was under an incredible amount of strain! ?
This problem didnt seem to occur so much when using the drivers supplied with the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum. However this problem worsened once I went on Creatives Auto Update and got the latest drivers that they suggested, along with the Audio Console and stuff. ?
It sounds to me like my SATA controller (some brand called Silicon, its built into the Asus Motherboard) is interferring with my sound card and/or the drivers.
Can anyone shed light on the situation please!!
My PC spec is as follows:
    AMD Athlon XP 3200+
    Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe ?
    2GB DDR RAM PC3200
    Radeon X600 PRO 52MB
320GB WD SATA Hard Disk & 500GB WD MyBook ES

    Fabrizziov,
Is the sound muffled and distorted when you plug headphones into the headphone out on the platinum dri've? If not, plug the headphones into the sound card's front output and run a speaker test to see if it is muffled and distorted from there. If it is then it is most likely a problem with the card's hardware. If this is the case I would suggest exchanging it for another through your retailer. You can also contact support for a repair if needed. Their contact information is at http://us.creative.com/support/custsup.

  • New FX5900XT in Asus A7N8X mobo won't boot.

Got a new MSI FX5900XT card yesterday, popped it into my PC this morning and it won't boot or even post at all.  No error beeps, nothing on the screen.  The monitor does "wake up," so it's sensing a signal of some kind, apparently.  I've seated and re-seated the card, booted repeatedly, and made sure the 12v power connector is securely plugged in.  I've been building my own PCs for about 12 years, and I've never had a video card just...do nothing.  My relevant system specs are:
    Asus A7N8X (non-Deluxe) mobo rev 1.04 w/latest v1007 BIOS
AMD Athlon XP2700+ CPU (not overclocked)
    Corsair XMS PC2700C2 333Mhz RAM (1 stick, 512 megs)
    eVGA GeForce4 Ti4200 128-meg video card (4x AGP version)
SMC EZ Card 10/100 SMC1211 NIC
    Western Digital WD1200JB 120-gig HD
    Western Digital WD2000JB 200-gig HD
    Panasonic LF-D321 DVD burner
    LiteOn LTR-32123S CD burner
    nVidia nForce audio (onboard mobo)
    ViewSonic G790 monitor
WinXP Home w/SP1 and all updates
    Enermax EG465P-VE power supply (431w):
    +3.3v @ 38a
    +5v @ 44a
    +12v @ 20a
    -5v @ 2a
    -12v @ 1a
    +5Vsb @ 2.2a
I've Googled the Web and searched here and haven't found a solution, though I did see messages from a couple of other users with similar problems.  The Ti4200 card works fine, and I've tried the FX5900XT card in another computer with the same results.  Any suggestions, other than the obvious (DOA & RMA)?
    Thanks,

Probably, but it's a 2nd PC with the same type motherboard, an Asus A7N8X.  I was hoping someone with this same mobo could tell me that his card worked with that setup.  I have a 3rd computer in the closet with an ECS K7S5A mobo, but I'm not inclined to drag it out.  In any case, I've already gotten an RMA from New Egg, and I'm sending the card back tomorrow.  It's not a piston engine, after all; it's only got one moving part, and the fan is spinning away just fine, and I've pretty much exhausted all the trouble-shooting possibilities, so the card must just be defective somehow.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • 30GB iPod Video Prevents ASUS A7N8X-X Mobo from Completing POST

    Greetings,
I've owned my iPod for about a week now, but it seems to have a little bit of an issue with nForce 2 based ASUS A7N8X-X motherboards, specifically in regards to the fact that if the iPod is connected to the PC during boot, the motherboard will not complete its POST and the boot is aborted. Where the POST aborts isn't consistent, but the majority of the time, it will abort on or before the CPU diagnostic. If I disconnect the iPod and then reset the system, the motherboard completes its POST as it normally would.
I was wondering if there were any other users who have experienced this. I have the current generation 30GB iPod Video and I'm using the dock cable that was included in the package.
    Thanks.

    Anything to do with this?

  • Conflict with SoundBlaster Live! and Asus A8V Deluxe onboard au

    Hi,
I have just upgraded my motherboard to an Asus A8V Deluxe. On my old board, I used to use two sound devices at once. One was the onboard sound and the other was a PCI Sound Blaster Li've card.
On the new board, I have the Realtek onboard sound enabled in BIOS. This works fine on its own, but when I put the Sound Blaster Li've in, Windows no longer displays the Realtek in the device manager. Instead I just get the Sound Blaster. So its like the motherboard doesnt like two cards at once.
I would like to get the onboard sound working as I use it most days for internet telephony through a headset while my PCI card is used for music / games etc through the loudspeakers.
    Thanks in advance.
    Will

<i have that mobo in my other pc and i could never get the onboard sound to work with the augy2 zs at all. it would never show up in device manager when ever i had the augy2 installed. i did talk to a ASUS tech and they told me that you cant run the onboard with a sound card at all. it is automatically disabled vie mobo. some how? he realy didnt go into details about it. but yeah i ended using 2 sound cards on that pc the augy2 zs and a li've 5. 24 bit so i could have my teamspeak usin the 5. and everything else used the augy2. and even now with this new pc i built i cant use the onbaord sound with a sound card. even tho i could use it for a bit tho. it would ened up crashing an the blue screen of death would also happen when i did. so i to now use a usb headset that is for playstation2 since it has its own sound device built in it. but sorry for no good news for ya tho. but other then that , that mobo is a good one tho, the A8V deluxe.

    nForce2 Where Art Thou?:
We have been getting mail every day asking, "Where are the nForce2 mainboards?" Well, here is one of them right here.
    link (again)
The one seen above is of course the Asus A7N8X. This is the only nForce2 board we have seen that works, outside the reference board that NVIDIA sent us a couple weeks ago. We however declined the opportunity to cover the NVIDIA reference board because we are not sure it is going to represent the boards we will see in the retail channel, when they get there. We are hearing of problems with the nForce2 chipset all of which are vague at best with nobody pointing a finger to the root problem.
The Asus A7N8X pictured above is not a production mainboard, but rather an engineering sample as explained to us by Asus. We are looking forward to covering the nForce2 chipset, but we are waiting on production boards so we will be sure what we cover will be the same product you can buy. While we do cover reference boards and engineering samples here on the [H]ardOCP, I would suggest that this time you take notice of what exactly the reviewers are covering in your research.

Hey Beav,  (I sound just like Wally, huh )
    You saidQuote
well thay also have a nvidia refrence board... but tho's board dont work... thay just look cool
(you ever thought of investing in a spell checker? )
I didn't read that in the article at all.  They said they didn't want to review the reference board because it would not accurately represent production boards.  But even that is a line of BS.  I never did care for Hardocp or their website.  They are very much pro Via and ATI.
What I don't understand about this thing is, how come no other websites have reviewed a referenece board or even admitted to receiving one?  I'm going to shoot an email to Anandtech.

  • Audigy 2 ZS on Asus P5B DELUXE WIFI

Hi,?Recentrly i bought a Asus p5b deluxe wifi, and i want to install my sound blaster audigy 2 zs. When i inserted the driver cd in to install the driveres, some error messagem appeared saying that any audigy 2 zs was intalled in my computer. I?ve changed the audigy to another pci slot, and the error still appears. Could you help me with this?Sorry my english, im from Portugal. Thanks.

I put the sound card in the pci slot. Then i turn on the computer. Windows detects the sound card. I put the cd driver, and then, when i start the instalacion it appears something like this " Setup error , it was not detected any audigy 2 sound card in the computer, and the installation will quit". Yes i disable the on board sound card in the BIOS. When i try to install by the device manager, it installs the WDM driver, and nothing more. The firewire and game port are not installed. And appears this in the device manager " SM .....controller " (i dont know the word in the middle) followed by device error icon (that yellow one).

  • "Warning": Noctua NH-C14 and Asus P8Z68 Deluxe

A little warning. The cooler is so big that you cant use both fans on it with the memory mentioned below in all slots. You must remove the lower fan and cant get full effect of the cooler. Idle I am still at 36C so it is good. Have not stresset it yet, have to install my programs first.
If the memory had been lower it might have worked out or my not using all memory slots. I use all therefore it became to tight.

    Hi,
It seems I need only one fan anyway. I finally got to test my setup yesterday and installed a chess program that runs my processor at 100%. I run it at 100% for 10-15 minutes and it was at 61C at maximum. Idle it is 36C. I am pleased with that.
The cpu fan stays at about 1200 RPM all the time, but when it gets hot the cabinett fans increases from 1100 to 14-1500 rpm.

  • Crucial M500 1TB in Asus z97 deluxe

Hi, i cannot get this SSD drive to show up in the bios on my asus z97 Deluxe motherboard, can anyone help me with this please?? Thanks

    Hi Damian666,
First of all I would like to say sorry that you can't get your system to see your M500 SSD.
Can you confirm how you have the SSD connected to your system?  For example is it connected internally through SATA or externally through a USB connection?
If you are connecting the drive internally can you please try a different SATA slot and a different SATA cable.  This is the best way to check and see if it's down to something other than the drive itself.
It is also worth checking to see if you can see the SSD in Windows disk management.  Please follow these steps to make sure the drive is initialized in your system.  http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Crucial-SSDs/How-to-initialize-your-SSD-Windows/ta-p/111492
Please let me know how it goes and if you do have any other questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask and we would be more than happy to help.

  • MSI GTX 680 Lightning compatibility with Windows 64/ Asus P6T Deluxe MB

I purchased a GTX 680 Lightning on Dec. 16.  I've been having random PC lockups and Driver hangs/restarts. Here's what I have done so far to try and remedy the problem:
-started with MSI Afterburner version 2.2.5 BETA and Nvidia ( MSI provided ) drivers 301.42, and standard bios .
-upgraded to various newer versions of NVidia drivers, BETA and WHQL. Usually the newer drivers become even more unstable.
    -Upgraded to Afterburner 2.3
-I had the original bios versions first shipped with the card, I have since updated the BIOS:
            from 80.04.09.00.F7  --> 80.04.28.00.39
            from 80.04.09.00.F8  --> 80.04.28.00.3A  ( LN2 )
-NVidia control panel settings left at default, with Global/all profiles set to "prefer maximum performance".
-I originally had a GTX295 installed, so all drivers etc. were fully removed, followed by clean install of 301.40
-Afterburner 2.3.0 is installed, Core voltage is set to +12mv, and the power limit is set to 178%
-memtest run for hours on my memory, zero faults.
-furmark run for hours, no crashes
-3dmark run repeatedly with varying overclock settings in Afterburner, no crashes
The updated LN2 BIOS seems to be sllightly more stable, but I still see random crashes when running Windows media player, VLC Player, Internet Explorer. Its definately a problem between windows multimedia and the Nvidia drivers.  I can play Skyrim maxxed out, for hours, yet when I first login to the computer and run IE, it sometimes locks up.
I've had the driver stop and recover while Afterburner is monitoring on-screen, and sometimes the CPU load will spike to 100% at the crash, yet sometimes it does not. GPU power voltage always sits at 0.987 or 1.212V. matching the power spec expected for the LN2 BIOS.
I've had GPU-Z cause at least 1 lockup, with the screen blanking red. Only 1.
My next step will be to try updated drivers again, now that the bios has been updated. I may also downgrade Afterburner to 2.2.5 BETA.
Does anyone have any other recommendations I can try?  Can someone point me to the latest BIOS version for the card ( or can i try that hybrid BIOS now available? )
At what point do I give up and RMA the card?
    Card S/N is 602-V283-02SB1206030939
    Windows 7 Professional 64
    Corsair 12GB mem, matched sticks
69 GB SSD for the OS, a Raptor 320GB disk for the rest
Antec True Power Quattro 1000W power supply
    Asus P6T Deluxe MB   ( not v2 )
    Intel I7 cpu 2.93 Ghz

I'm going on 3 days of stable performance. I made 2 changes:
    1) core voltage in MSI afterburner upped to +87mV, power limit at 150%.
    2) I have an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard, and am running the UPU-6 engine. This utility is designed to let the motherboard auto-switch from max power savings -> medium power savings -> max performance ( 100% CPU ) -> turbo mode (O/C CPU ).   I had this set on Auto, and I have re-set it manually to max-performance.
I think the EPU-6 engine was the problem, I am waiting for a few more days stability to prove the theory.
EUP-6 will lower your clock speed when idling, and then bump up your performance when you start doing things.  In my case I would go from playing a game ( Skyrim) to running IE, and EPU-6 would change modes DOWN.  In reverse, I would be doing nothing. then run IE or media player, and EPU-6 would change modes UP. Those state changes are where I think I was getting blackscreens and lockups.
I still don't understand it exactly, I think the combination of my MB changing power/performance AND the GTX680 also changing performce creates some kind of conflict.  I have had the Afterburner graph going when the driver crashed, and it shows the GPU power maxing out when the driver crashed. All other graphs bottom out ie. the whole card "hiccups".
So I will put the core voltage back to defaults, and also set the Nvidia display/performance options all back to defaults, and keep the EPUJ-6 engine stuck on max-performance, which is basically leaving the MB running at 100% stock CPU and power.  I expect that will prove stable and resolve the problem.
    Crossing my fingers.

  • ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe - compatible motherboard?

  • Asus A7N8X Del. or MSI K7N2G-IL?

Reviews praise both mobos and give them (on average) a score of 9/10.  Benchmarks show that both boards perform on par with one another (sometimes one board will perform slightly better than the other board and vice versa).
Reviews also show that both boards are good overclockers but do not go into specifics.  Do any of these boards have a PCI lock for overclocking the processor FSB?
Is there any reason for purchasing one board over the other, or should I purchase the board with the cheapest price?

In reference to Grog's post I don't know that I would go with his recommendation either way yet...he's got his friend doing testing on his components still and from what I read it looks like his processor is faulty or that he got a bad MB out of the box...both of those failures, while really frustrating to the typical consumer because of lack of extra parts for troubleshooting, can happen to anyone. The K7N2 boards are decent boards with lots of features packed into them. They are VERY picky about memory that you can use in them. They have exhibited issues with ATI based video cards, Sapphire in particular and IMHO it's an initialization issue at bootup.
I just got back from a month vacation and I'm not up to par with current BIOS releases that were done while I was gone, if any, so I can't say if the temp issues still exist or not. The boards were reading over by 10C then under by 10C and I'm not sure what they're reading to date with whatever recent BIOS that's been released as I said.
Overall those folks that have the boards working and setup properly seem to be quite happy with them...there are a few that have issues still such as the AGP 8X issue. Seemingly there is a fix in the UK for it but you have to send it back to MSI UK Tech Support to have it repaired...
My ASUS board has been rock solid forever now but I do miss some of the -ILSR frills that aren't included on this board that I have...I do like it's stability alot and am happily enjoying gaming on it. I play SWG, MOHAA, Splinter Cell, DoD, BF1942, EQ as well as others and haven't had a glitch in the bunch once I get each game's settings set properly. Overall I'm happy with this board.
It's really a crapshoot and personal preference IMHO. You may have great results with either or bad results as well...it really all depends on what components you use in the system and how they play in the sandbox with each other...
    That's my take on it...

  • X-Fi Platinum + ASUS P5N32 Deluxe + New install = No Sou

I haven't seen anything speaking to a problem like this, so please slap me if I missed it. I just installed a new system, and I have an X-Fi Platinum that I love from a previous system that I want to carry over. Unfortunately, when I install it in the system, Windows XP SP2 identifies the card only as a PCI Device, and can't determine what it is. I can't install the drivers manually because I can't even install them. The installer won't install the drivers if it can't identify the hardware in the system. I've tried this several ways:?) Fresh OS install with all hardware installed.2) Remove card and reboot to redetect hardware configuration, then re-install.3) Fresh OS install with no sound card installed. Install card, reboot, still nothing. Yes, there is audio on the board. I already disabled it in BIOS. The only thing I can figure is that there is some sort of IRQ conflict between that and the two PCIE video cards. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

CBy the way, ?this card totally works and sounds excellent when installed in an older mb built for amd athlon 3000 cpu.
I am hoping that someone from Creative will answer my question here as I can not find a phone number for technical support on the web site.
    Thanks,
