ASUS G60JX-RBBX05 OR Macbook?

I just need a laptop for djing, movie viewing, graphic designing and blogging. Which one is better?  Should I go to a Mac or stay with PC? (I never had a mac)

If you aren't playing 3D games, I'd consider a different Asus model.  The G series are excellent systems, but as they are optimized towards 3D gaming, they have major power hog graphics chipsets installed.  The end result is their battery life is not so great and they run quite warm.  That said, I have a G51vx-x2a and absolutely love it.
Also, most of the RBBX (Best Buy unique) variants of Asus G-series machines are the only variants with 1366x768 displays - all others have 1920x1080 displays.
Since you'll be doing graphics design, you want the 1080p screen.
Since you're going to be viewing movies, you might want to find a unit that has a Blu-Ray drive.
Until BB starts offering variants of Asus G-series machines with 1080p displays, I can only reccommend buying G-series variants from other vendors that offer higher end variants.  (You'll typically see -A1, -A2, -X1A, -X2A as standard variants carried by other vendors.)
Note that for your needs, a different Asus series (not the G-series) may be optimal for you.

  • Asus external drive and macbook air

My sister in law recently purchased a macbook air from an online store that's affiliated with her work. Unfortunately, the apple products that they got their are too expensive. At the same time they are not new models but definitely brand new. I recently bought an asus external usb drive (SDRW-08D2S-U). I actually bought thiss o I could fix her other laptop that runs windows 8. I was wondering if this would work on OSX mavericks? You see the macbook air would arrive next week. I believe this macbook runs mountain lion. I plan to upgrade the software to osx mavericks once it gets delivered. Do you guys suggest buying a super drive instead for the macbook air?

Your questions don't really make any sense, especially the last one.
The Apple Superdrive is an external DVD drive. The Macbook Air is a Complete computer (except it does not have a DVD drive built in).
As to the drive it can be formatted to work with any operating system, Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, Solaris, Whatever.

  • ASUS G73JH-RBBX05

    Can someone help me out?
I want to know if this laptop :
    Asus - Laptop with Intel® Core™ i7 Processor - Black
     G73JH-RBBX05
Will be available on August on this Best Buy store:
Laredo TX 7905 San Dario Ave,  78045-7253
If its possible to know of course..  Thanks!

I don't think there is any way to tell.  Heck, Asus refreshes their product lineups frequently enough that it may be discontinued and replaced with a different model by then.

Sounds like faulty hardware or some bad video drivers. Try running the startup diagnostics through the BIOS if it has that feature or whatever diagnostic software ASUS installed on your machine.

  • Watch out G72GX-RBBX05 users!

Hello people who have Asus G72GX-RBBX05 or plan to buy one.
Got this laptop about 3 weeks ago cause old one (rx05) was discontinued by Asus.
When I'm playing games like F.E.A.R 2 or Crysis, GPU temperature jumps to 80C and over, 85C is critical temp for this graphics card, what makes that GPU down clock to avoid any hardware damages, but this happens in all games, I'm disappointed cause I'm not able to play games, frame rate drops to 1-3 per second after 5 minutes of playing, but wait! This is not a Bios bug again, its real temperature... I checked, Asus shouldn't release not tested laptop, I opened plastic which covers CPU, RAM, and GPU and tried to play that way, temperature lowered couple degrees, I used cooling pad, results were amazing, 15-20 degrees lower! Game were running at 70 and little over, problem was solved, partially because this laptop should running like that without any cooling pads and modifications, I'm using this PC a lot going to friend playing games, Internet, and running around with cooling pad is uncomfortable and uncovered laptop parts could result in damage of them. 2 weeks has passed and I can't return this laptop, also Asus support pushed me to do recovery and clean vents, vents couldn't get dirty after 3 weeks, and recovery not solved this problem, they want me to send that laptop to them but I don't want to be month without laptop!
Then all people who plan to buy this Asus, hold on and you who got it already, you have the same problem?

In my experience, gaming laptops genreally have heat issues regardless of how they're built. There's simply too much heat being generated and not a solid way to dissipate it all, short of making them bulkier. I generally don't recommend these to my customers simply because it's hard to use them without cooling fans or propping up the system.
Computers are NOT appliances, they MUST be maintained! Educate yourself on how to do this and save yourself headaches, repair bills, and lost data!

  • Asus G60 upgrade?

I have the G60VX-RBBX05 and I was wondering if I could upgrade the harddrive space in the laptop. I read somewhere that I could upgrade it to 1TB, if so how much would the Geek Squad charge to do all of this for me?
Since you no longer have it on your website, I can't link the product to this post.
    http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/asus-g60vx-rbbx05/4505-3121_7-33776097.html
^^the link above; however, is the laptop in question.
    Thanks in advance

Right now, I don't think there are any upcoming capacity limitations we're anywhere close to hitting with SATA, so your ability to upgrade is limited by what's available.
I've only seen two 2.5" 1TB drives in existence, and both are only 5400 RPM drives, you will likely trade capacity for speed.  They might also be thicker than standard drives.
The Asus will be able to take any standard height 2.5" laptop hard drive with a SATA interface.  Also, with your particular laptop you can purchase a secondary hard drive carrier from Asus that will let you install a second hard drive and put it in a RAID configuration with your existing one.  (new drive needs to be the same capacity).  The bracket is only available from Asus and is frequently out of stock - http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=4410&catid=728
Installing a hard drive is pretty easy, the hardest part is transferring your data.

  • ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 Warranty - is it Global?

Is the 1-year warranty on the ASUS G73JH-RBBX05  a global warranty or only valid at ASUS service centres in North America?
Is there a warranty card included in the box that specifically states it is a global warranty? No fine print that excludes global warranty service?

I would check Asus' website.  MFGs rarely include any type of paperwork in PC packaging anymore these days.  I would assume the warranty is not just valid in the US, but I know if that's the case, it will be different in every country it's applied in and often times there are different phone numbers to call.
Nothing I post is an official statment of Best Buy or Geek Squad, it is only a helpful opinion!

  • What is best laptop for personal use ?? my requirement is gaming and whole day personal usage ?

am fed up for buying a new laptops ?

These would be okay for gaming and still stick under the 1000 buck mark
The thing I look for in a laptop (that I want to game on) is a discrete graphics card notably either ATI or NVIDIA ... if it says Intel Graphics i stay away from those... they just aren't going to handle gaming that well.
These laptops are intel based processors that I kinda lean toward these days - you may get better value out of an AMD based machine... I personally like intel a little better right now for processors.
Memory - I just look for 3GB and above.
these really only apply to Best Buy... other places are going to have different models

  • Most suitable external drive format for pc/mac

hope i've posted this in the correct forum.
i've formated an external OWC mercury 500GB drive to use with my desktop asus P4 and my macbook pro 17"
i formated in fat 32 in order to be able to read/write data files from both systems... so far things work ok with the exceptions being the trashes and ds files that the apple OS X litters the drive with... only the pc (explorer can see them) i've not yet had time to install and try and configure blueharvest (an apple program to fix it's mess).
moreover, i find i'm unable to copy large files like movies etc. because of a file size limit engendered by fat 32
i've just purchased another 500GB external drive and would like some advice on a 'POSSIBLE' better way to format this drive so the two systems can read/write data files.
any help would be appreciated... perhaps a link to a more detailed thread on this vexing problem of getting drives to pair (GLITCH FREE)...
    thanks,
    O

The easiest way is to format the external drive in either HFS (Mac) or NTFS (Windows)---connect the drive to the compatible computer (Mac for HFS; PC for NTFS) and then access the drive through your home network (assuming that you are networking your computers).
The reason this is the easiest is because across a network, the file system makes no difference--the network protocol and the built-in SMB file sharing protocol automatically do the necessary translations to allow you to read and write to any computer on the network as long as sharing and permissions are correct. This all happens in the background--you won't notice it---and the result is that your Mac computer can read and write to any PC drive, and your PC can read and write to any Mac drive.
I do this all the time on an eight computer home network of mixed Macs and PCs. I format the external drives in HFS (Mac) because I like using Spotlight (although Vista search is quite good)---and then transfer files from the PCs onto the external Mac drives.

  • G72GX-RBBX05

Hello all, this topic is mostly directed to owner of ASUS G72GX-RBBX05,  i have 3 questions
1:How to manage lights, previous laptops had Direct console, this one doesn't, and I would like to turn off the back lights as it irritates me when I goes sleep.
2rocessor, CPU-Z show that current frequency is 1500mhz not 2500mhz, I changed to high performance mode, and even overclocking mode, but nothing changed, so overclocking is not working?
3:What games can you run on this ASUS, i was dissapointed when installed an old MMORPG i play (Perfect world international) and FRAPS showed me 20fps/s, im scared thar crysis would run like 4fps/s
I know that is new laptop and just couple people got it but if games will run in Low fps like that game ill be pushed to return it back to Best buy, but thanks for help in advance.

Only thing I can think of is that there's some sort of W7 issue with that game.
Aion runs at higher framerates on my (slightly older and slower) G51vx, and that uses the Crytek engine.

This topic has been moved to Off-Topic Technical.

    Toshibas are pretty good.
If you're not doing heavy 3D work, you probably just want to find a system with:
    Reasonably fast CPU
Plenty of RAM (4GB or more)
A good display (For photo editing work I STRONGLY reccommend a display capable of 1080p, frequently shown on specs as 1920x1080, or greater.)
I would NOT reccommend doing photo/graphic design work on a 1366x768 display (most low-end and mid-grade laptops and nearly everything BB sells - In fact the BB versions of many models are the ONLY ones that are 1366x768, such as the Asus G51vx-RBBX05 vs. all other G51vx variants)

  • Are these good laptops for Premiere Pro Cs5?

Okay so I will be going off to college soon (September) and I will be buying my first laptop for this reason, but I will be doing full HD videos on it. I help photographers and videographers with photo retouching and video editing as well as making music videos and I need a laptop that will handle Premiere Pro Cs5 (acutally the whole production premium suite). I can't buy a desktop yet because my first semester is abroad and I can't travel with much weight. These are the ones I have been looking at:

I'm open to sugestions but I won't buy anything from HP, Sony, or Toshiba because I have had problems with their products.
Also would an intel core i5 handle Premiere and After Effects?
I usually make 3 to 4 videos and 100 images every 10 days but I can reduce the production to 2 and 70 if I have to.
    Thank you in advance.

I recently purchased the Dell Studio
16 XPS with SSD and an i7 processor to do
nothing but Photoshop, Lightroom, and PP CS5
processing for approx 2 TBs of past & present video
footage  (including AVCHD) and full HD 24P and 30P
footage from my DSLR; I run WIN 7 with 64 bit in 8 GB ram; all
my cache's are on the SSD and I have gigabit network
that serves up my source files at approx 40-70 MBytes/sec
(depending on the file or files); I use the QNAP TS259 Pro as
my NAS; the Dell has the ATI hi-performance graphics card
that only partially takes advantage of the Mercury Playback
Engine(no hardware acceleration with the ATI); I'm extremely
happy with the technologies; I can do the majority of my video
editing W/O pre-rendering altho at times for precision stuff I do
pre-render; having the historical perspective of using PS & PP since
1997 on Windows platforms I can assuredly tell you that the
performance and productivity uplifts from the marriage of these
    software & hardware technologies is nothing short of miraculous;
I couldn't be happier; don't skimp on your laptop: 1)i7 2)8GB or more
DDR3 RAM 3) fast disks or SSD  4)HD capable monitor and 5) graphics
card that preferably takes full advantage of the Mercury Engine; you'll need
to shell out about $2500 for all of this (excluding the 30" monitor that I use with mine)
    Hope this helps....

  • Can anyone help me solve the problem of text displaying very rough on my new ASUS PA279Q display monitor running off my MacBook Pro?

This is regarding a brand new ASUS PA 279Q, 2560 x 1440 IPS monitor. I'm connected via mini display port (into thunderbolt port on MacBook Pro) to display port on ASUS monitor; using cable ASUS included with the monitor. Mid 2012 MacBook Pro…full specs at bottom of this post.
I have resolution set at 2560 x 1440 which is the native resolution according to the ASUS spec. I tried the other resolutions available in my System Preferences and text displayed rough with those settings too. I've tried adjusting contrast, brightness and sharpness via the ASUS control panel and didn't solve the problem. Also tried calibrating via Mac's system preferences/display and that did not improve text display either. All the text on this monitor (no matter what software I launch, Finder, InDesign, Illustrator, MS Word, Excel, VMWare Windows XP, Windows versions of Word, Excel, Acrobat, etc, all are consistently rendering text the same way ---  ROUGH and with "HALOS" around each letter.
All point sizes of text and at various scales, display very rough on the screen. (My comparison is the retina display of my MBP and a Thunderbolt…so those two displays are my expectations.) I'm using the same MBP for both a Thunderbolt display (at work) and this ASUS at my home office.
On the ASUS it's not as noticeable when the text is on white backgrounds, but I'm a graphic designer and compose images with text all day everyday. Not to mention the specs on this ASUS PA279Q indicate it's built for the professional so I would expect better text rendering. I haven't even addressed color calibration and balance yet, because that won't matter to me if the text won't display any better than it is now.
I was so hopeful after researching all the specs on this monitor it would be a viable alternative to the glossy display of the Thunderbolt display. (Which, I do love the Thunderbolt display for it's clarity and how it displays crisp, clean text at all sizes. (This ASUS actually displays text decently if I increase the text so each letter is about 4" high. Which is pointless for practical purposes -- that'd be like doing page layout through a microscope!)
I kept holding off on getting a monitor for the home office thinking the Thunderbolt would be updated soon. I'd be sick if I dropped a grand on piece of 2011 technology only to learn a few days later an updated Thunderbolt display hit the market! Not to mention, I'm praying Apple comes out with a less reflective Thunderbolt display. The glare and reflection is the main reason I looked elsewhere for a large monitor; hence my asking for help. Hoping the ASUS text display issue can be worked out. My expectation is for it to display like the MBP retina and Thunderbolt display text. That possible?
Alternatively, I guess I could do the Apple Refurb Thunderbolt at $799. And see if there's a decent aftermarket anti-glare I could stick on it?
Thanks for reading my post. Hope someone can help; offer any suggestions? Words or wisdom?
Has anyone else had similar issues and figured out a resolution? Help!

    8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    OS X 10.8.5

    ASUS PA279Q

I uninstalled those two items. It still runs slow on start-up and when opening safari, firefox, iphoto, itunes, etc. It's not snappy like it used to be. Any other ideas? Thanks.

  • IPhone 4S doesnt show charge symbol and charges very slowly on brand new MacBook Pro. Not recognised by iTunes. Charges fine on Asus laptop. iPod charges fine on Macbook Pro...

    Hi!
I'm trying to fix a problem I'm having with my iPhone 4S and MacBook Pro.
I did manage to connect it initially and set it up with XCode as well as iTunes.
Today I have spent two hours trying to connect it to my MacBook Pro and I have so far found the following...
iPod 2G - charges from MacBook Pro, Wall Charger, Asus Laptop (works with both my Apple USB cables)
iPhone 4S - doesnt charge from MacBook Pro, but does from Wall Charger and Asus Laptop
                      - Asus Laptop running Linux Mint recognises the iPhone as a device with 'lsusb' and you can browse photos etc
                      - MacBook Pro doesn't recognise the iPhone as a device with the 'systemprofiler' equivalent of lsusb
                      - Interestingly, despite the charging icon not showing, the iPhone either maintains charge or very, very slowly charges
when connected to the MacBook Pro.
Any ideas as to what might be wrong? I've tried both the USB ports on the MacBook Pro and no difference. I've tried the 6 ports
on my old Asus laptop and they all work fine!
    Thanks for your help!

OK.. Went to the Apple Store - they could either book an appointment with a Genius.. or send the phone for
testing and repair. Found out I have a 2 year warranty on it so have a year left.
My research has led me to assume that the USB 2.0 function of my iPhone was faulty from the day I got it (it kept disconnecting the reconnecting but transferred data fast), but soon stopped doing that and ran at about 1MB/s - USB 1.1 speed - and has done this ever since.
The MacBook Pro somehow is trying to use the USB2.0 function and is not letting the phone fall back to USB 1.1.
To test my theory I found an old USB 1.1 hub... plugged it into the MacBook Pro... then plugged the iPhone
into that. Job done. Charging fine, recognised every single time I connect, and only took a few secs to send over my XCode app to the phone and runs fine! I guess this works as the hub forces the iPhone and MacBook both to USB1.1 mode which then works fine! Will just use it like this for a few months then send it in at an opportune moment (want to get some apps out before I lose my device for repair for a while!)
I will in the next week or so test my iPhone on my friend's MacBook Pro (we bought them the same day but I didn't get the Retina cos I like to be able to upgrade RAM, Hard Drive, and replace battery when it wears out). I will also test their iPhones on my MacBook Pro to see whether it really is the phone or the MacBook!
PS I will get WiFi Sync running since transferring 60GB of data over USB1.1 won't be fun... will do a full factory reset on the phone just in case there is an issue there - will post results of this too!
