Most, if not all, computers are going to have some kind of issue. The Asus issue is a minor issue.

Has the Asus G71GX-RX05 GPU problem been fixed? And if so what do you have to do to fix it.

    hi vanhelsing.
i know that asus was working on an updated BIOS to fix the GPU issue, and according to the last post in this thread on the asus support forums (http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20090627114124765&board_id=3&model=G71Gx(BestBuy)&SLanguage=e...), rev. 1201 seems to have done the trick.
i checked the asus support website (http://support.asus.com), and i found that there is an even new version of the BIOS - rev. 1302. i would recommend moving to this BIOS upon unboxing your G71GX.
i have updated the BIOS on both notebooks and desktops before, and the process is fairly painless. i found this link off the asus support site (http://support.asus.com/technicaldocuments/technicaldocuments.aspx?root=198&SLanguage=en-us), and it describes how to update the BIOS. i would recommend having a conversation with your local geek squad if you're not comfortable doing the process yourself.

  • Asus G71GX RX05 price raise

ive been looking into buying this laptop mainly because it was cheap and has been listed for 1149.99 dollers on best buy's website for a few weeks now. even on c nets review of this laptop it says that best buy is selling it for 1149.99. but when i went on to the website today i noticed the price is now 1299.99 a 150 doller raise. is this true? or is it a just a wrong price they messed up on.

I am not sure what the exact price is in-store because I am off today but I would check with your local store to see if the price is still $1149.99.

  • What happened to the Asus G71GX-RX05 Laptop?

I still see this item listed on the best buy website at the link below but it does not allow shipping and is not available at any of my local Best Buy stores.  I've done research on this laptop and would REALLY like to purchase.  Is it still available?
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9366615&type=product&id=1218092150740

Honestly no, I am not informed on incoming shipments. I would wait for the next model to be released and jump on that. You can also look at the G51 unit. It is a little less spec wise and has a 15inch screen.

  • Can the Gateway P-7805u run Crysis on all high settings?

Can the Gateway P-7805u run Crysis on all high settings? It seems like a beast and I was thinking of getting it, but im not gonna spend that money if it cant produce. I have a very old computor and im tired of running everything on low.
    thanks-Helsing

Crysis is one of the most power hungry games ever created. I have seen desktop computers running Dual 9800Gt's come to a crawl when running Crysis with everything maxed out.
Have you googled that Gateway model to see if there are any benchmark test out there?

  • Gateway P-7805u notebook

I just purchased the Gateway P-7805u notebook. After the first hour of use, the fan began to cycle off and on for just a few seconds then off for 10 minutes or so then cycle again a few times. After a couple of days, now the other fan is doing the same thing. This happens even when the computer is just idling.  I looked at the display for this computer quite a long time in the store and it never did this. Is this a problem or just something I just expect from this computer. By the way, there is no excessive heat from the computer at all.

It might be doing that normal, for example, the fan might shut itself off when the computer isnt generating enough heat to require the fan to be in use.
Then it might kick in, cool down what was heating up, and shut itself off.
My HP's fan is always running, but you'll hear it shut off every now and then, and then kick back on right away.
If you are worried about it, if you have a Black Tie protection plan on it, you can take it to a best buy store, and have them to a scan of the comptuers hard ware, to make sure everything is working correctly.
If the fan is faulty, it would show up, as the component it is cooling would show up too hott.
My opinions are mine, and mine alone.

  • Asus U81A-RX05 or dell S1555-018B ????????

I am looking for a laptop for me and me wife.  I cannot decide on the Dell or the Asus.  I will be web surfing, light gaming and some word processing.  I want something to replace my desktop.  Does Best Buy do warranty service for Dell or Asus.  I have read some people think  Asus product support is better than Asus offers a 2 year warranty. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would go with the Asus and Best Buy does offer a service plan on both brands.

  • Asus UX50V-RX05 and Microsoft Office Questions

I was thinking about getting this model for Law School.  But I'm going to be depending on Onenote in Microsoft Office a lot for note taking.  I just want to know if anybody has this computer and if they think it could handle a semesters worth of notes.  When Finals roll around I want to be able to bring up a semesters worth of notes and flip between lessons without lag or hesitation and I noticed that this Asus comes with a 1.4cpu.  I noticed as well that this computer will be eligible for a free windows 7 upgrade and wanted to know that if it couldn't handle a semesters worth of notes with vista if windows 7 would make the process easier?
According to Microsoft Office Homepage the specifications on this model should be more than enough but I was hoping that somebody had the model to tell from experience or just some more insights.

as nokia mentioned, microsoft onenote isn't all that demanding of a program, so the ux50 that you're considering should have no trouble with what you plan to be doing in school. for reference, i often used onenote in school over the past couple of years, and my thinkpad never hiccuped.
while i can understand you being somewhat hesitant about the 1.4GHz speed in the ux50, it's nothing to fear. the intel core solo processor does well for exactly the sort of workload you would be applying. the centrino chipset that the machine is based on will provide you with ample performance while being able to get  upwards of 5.5 hours of battery life (a big plus when on campus for lectures).

  • Asus Notebook Problem

    Good Morning to all,
My name is Renato, I'm Brazilian and I want to know if you could help me.
My sister lives in USA and in August/2009 she bought a Asus notebook model at Thousand Oaks Best Buy store, and brought it to me here in Brazil. When she arrived here and I turned on the notebook, I found one key of the keyboard broken.
I wanted to know if at your stores you could fix this problem, changing the notebook keyboard.
The notebook model is an Asus G71GX-RX05.
ps: Sorry about my bad English.
    Thanks in advance,
    Renato Carvalho.

In this case my experience is totally different.
6 mothns back i purchased ASUS Eee PC, I am very happy with its performance. The greatest quality of Asus Eeepc 1005 HA is it's design. This netbook follows Asus' new line of computers, all inspired by in "Seashells". This means that the system looks wider at the back than in the front with its thickest part measuring at 1.4 inches. The netbook has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel glossy display. It’s bright and displays colors well indoors, but looks like a mirror when used in bright sunlight. So, you can have minor problems if you intend to use your Asus outdoors.
    Thanks you ASUS.

  • Asus G72gx

I got my G72gx around 2 months ago, and since i got it  its have been overheating, Blue screening, wireless problems etc, same issues that most of g72gx users, i called Asus right away they said they will call me back when they will have more information on this issue, i tried couple more times, and nothing, can't return this laptop since its long after return date, exchange won't help cause all of them have the same issue, and Asus won't do anything, so im stuck with this piece of s*** that won't run games and won't run even properly windows! Can't even exchange for another model. Do any of you have the same problem with this trash? Or im the only one.

They would make even more scratches, and this is the same problem that G71gx-rx05 had but bios fix didn't helped here, and if this is Bios fault, warranty is useless

  • Asus quad core upgrade

Hi. Quick question here: I'm looking to buy the Asus G51VX-RX05 gamer but would like to upgrade the CPU from the currnet duo core to a quad core.  Anyone know if this is possible and, if so, how much extra?
    Many thanks in advance.

The Asus G71GX is an amazing laptop in my opinion.

  • Looking to Buy my first Laptop :-)

    Hi!
My Eighteenth Birthday is coming up and Im getting my first laptop! But its Kind of confusing, I have never planned on spending so much money before. So ive been researching a lot about some laptops, buts it confusing because I always get mixed reviews with every laptop I look up   So I saw this Laptop,
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9353371&st=Dell+studio&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=12180...
It seems pretty good, the hardware seems to be what I need (though im not an expert on video cards, so any help on how that would be cool ) But im very hesitant to buy this one because I looked at other laptops, the same ones just different colors, and they didn't have the greatest reviews. Does anybody have any opinions on this laptop?
Im looking for a computer with power and speed, were I can work and multi task with adobe software such as Photoshop and After FX, and to satisfie my inner gamer for MMO's. I would like to keep the price at $1,000 or less, but i will look at others for more.
    Thanks

    hi kalaster.
the notebook that you linked is quite the beast, but as hockey mentioned, it's probably overkill for the kinds of things you're looking to accomplish. in terms of whether the laptop is 'good' or not, read the CNET review that's linked on the product detail page. they seem to do a good a job of reviewing the machines from top to bottom.
here are three other machines that are a bit closer to the price that you mentioned.
    * asus G51VX-RX05: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9366651&type=product&id=1218092150636
    * gateway fx P-7805u: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827
    * hp pavillion dv7-1285dx: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9166323&type=product&id=1218041149114
all of them come with at least 4gb of system memory, intel core 2 duo processors, spacious hard drives, and discrete graphics adapters. the gateway and the hp have CNET reviews linked on their product pages, so as i mentioned for the first sytem, check those out to get a better idea of the pros and cons.

Among the various errors I got trying to access QuickTime content in my browser, I received the "Failed to initialize" message, which apparently other people encountered... Though, the problem descriptions I have read so far in the corresponding threads do not seem to match my case.
Has anyone got the same errors I received outside of the browser (see previous message)?

  • Looking for a Multipurpose Laptop

Mmkay, I have about four things that I would use a laptop for--that I use my desktop for now--that I would like to know what kind of qualitifications I'm looking for.
    1: Writing(General word documents)
2: Playing music. Preferably in winamp, mp3s. Sometimes from youtube.
    3: Playing World of Warcraft.
4: Surfing the web, most typically on webcomics and places like Deviantart.
Can anyone help me out, here? I know alot of laptops are leaning towards superaffordable so specs as well as price quotes would be an awesome thing to have.
and I fully plan to buy a USB mouse, I can't stand using a touchpad to play WoW.
    So, any ideas, anyone? ^-^;;

$1100 is a decent PC budget. Let's set aside 10% for a wireless mouse and laptop bag.
I think these models should get the job done..,..
HP HDX 16-1375DX-- Plenty of power, at the expense of battery life.  A handsome laptop, but you'll have to be on top of the fingerprints.
Asus G51VX-RX05-- Another heavy hitter, but the looks will take some getting used to.
Sony VGN-NW150J/S-- This bad boy is packin' Blu-Ray. If you like movies, it worth a look.
Dell X1340-024B-- I have a soft spot for this one. It's a little thing, that packs a punch.
