Asus Motherboard with NVIDIA GeForce 6150 + nForce 430

Hi Guys,
Was just wondering if anybody could help me out a bit regarding buying a new motherboard.
I was looking at getting the Asus A8N-VM CSM motherboard which has the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 + nForce 430 chipset.
Would anybody have any views on using ArchLinux with this board.
Or would I be better off choosing something with a VIA or SIS or ATI chipset.
The reason I like this board is coz :
1) It has On-board graphics
2) There is an official driver with full 3d support
I guess I was looking to hear from people who already have this board or have any experience with installing linux ( actually mainly looking at ArchLinux ) and if there are any gotchas that should serve as showstoppers or the like.
As always, your advice will be greatly appreciated ...
THNX in advance.
Cheers,
hackmykack

My system is incompatible with the new windows 10 upgrade.  Get the following message "NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 , The display manufacturer hasn't amde your display compatible with windows. check with the manufacturer for support

It's true that card isn't compatible with Windows 10 and from my research it will never be compatitble. You can still upgrade to Windows 10 though Microsofts website though and follow my work around below. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10  Once you upgrade you'll notice your screens resolution will be screwed up atleast it was for me. Thats because it's using the generic Windows display driver since the driver for the graphics card isn't compatible. There is a way to get around it though. I will warn you now it's not perfect since the driver I'm linking is for Windows 8.1. Your icons on your desktop and in the taskbar will refresh every couple minutes. But you will be able to set your computer to the correct resolution. So it's kind of a tradeoff.  Here's the link to the driver you'll need http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/56378 So far so good besides the refreshing icons.  Edit: The icons stopped refreshing and no other issues.

  • Support for windows 10 FREE UPGRADE for E Machines EL1358G WITH NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE NForce 30

i have an emachines EL1358g-51w that came with a NVIDIA GeForce 6450SE NForce 30 ( i believe motherboard ) and i went to upgrade my current windows 7 home basic to the new Windows 10 free upgrade ( which microsoft indicated that i was eligible for the free upgrade one month or so ago ) ..... on sunday i went to upgrade through microsoft now microsoft indicates " the display manufacturer ( emachines/acer ) hasn't made your display compatible with windows 10. check with the manufacturer for support "i went to the nvidia websight ...they indicate see emachines .... i went to the emachines websight ...they indicate see the acer websight ...the acer websight ( per their live agent ) indicates i have to wait until ACER does the update for my specific computer ...DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN THIS UPDATE WILL BE AVAILABLE ...

    mrtease3,
I do not see your unit listed as an eligible model that eMachines will be posting drivers for Windows 10. The drivers that we have posted on our support site are what we have qualified for the system, and based on the age of the unit there will not be newer ones uploaded. If you want to remove the installed graphics driver and try to install one directly from NVidia you can see if that will resolve it for you.

  • Driver Update for NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 for Windows 10.

When will HP put out a update to this Display card so we can upgrade to windows 10. This card is in a lot of HP computers and they cannot upgrade to windows 10. This is the only item that is holding me back from upgrade.

You may want to give my suggestion a try. Worst case scenario is you add a $35 video card or roll back to W7. Here is how to roll back to W7 from W10 if things don't go as planned. I still think my idea has a good chance of working. http://www.askvg.com/how-to-restore-previous-windows-version-after-upgrading-to-windows-10/ Yes, it would be nice if the hardware manufacturers would develop W10 drivers for all devices that worked on W7. You get this hype about a free upgrade and then you can't, because the hardware doesn't have driver support. But if you read the system requirements for W10, your PC meets those requirements. Basically any PC that could completely run Vista should have been able to run W10. But nVidia won't be developing any W10 drivers for that chipset and graphics.  They didn't develop any W8.1 drivers either. I have an old HP nc6400 business notebook PC, and there is only driver support up to Windows Vista. I installed W10 and it works just fine.  I manually installed some of the Vista drivers and used the W7 Intel graphics driver from Intel. Sometimes if you can't go through them, then you have to go around them.

  • New MacbookPro with Nvidia Geforce GT 750M 2GB for Premiere and Aftereffects CS6, CC and CC14?

I have Premiere Pro and AE CS6.
My Mac got stolen, now i have to buy a new one.
I think about buying the new Macbook Pro Retina with Nvidia Geforce GT 750M 2GB Graphicscard.
I want hardware which works fine with both Premiere Pro, AE CS6 and the later versions! (Maybe i want to upgrade some time).
What is the best configuration on a MacBook Pro that i can work with CS6 and later versions as good as possible?
    What is Mercury Playback Engine?
    What's CUDA?
Can i use this GPU acceleration on the latest Macbook Pro with Nvidia GT 750M card in CS6, CC and CC14?
    Thanks very much!
    Greetings!
    Jakob

Considering the new 15"...( 13" is USELESS) ...Macbook Pro starts at over $2,500 with the necessary i7 CPU, ( forget i5).....you would be WAY better served to go with a powerful Windows gaming laptop for HALF that price from a company like Asus,or, others.  If money is no object and you MUST go Apple, then, there are SOME pros and some cons.
    1. Pro - has Thunderbolt, for hi-speed EXPENSIVE external storage, or, for Hi -res external monitor....however, MY 2 year old Asus laptop HAS a "thunderbolt" port , TOO...which I use to drive a hi-res monitor.
Con - though NVidia 750m 2GB GPU is adequate for much of the CUDA accelerated operations, newer Windows laptops have more advanced 800 and 900 series GPUs with far more video memory...for HALF the price !
    2. Pro -  PPro and AE runs best with Windows 8.1
Con -  Mac operating system in the recent past has had issues and hiccups vs. Windows in running Premiere Pro....I'm not sure if all that has been fixed at this time.
    3. Pro -  newest mac book pro uses PCI SSD storage...amazing transfer speed of data !.....however, a 1TB flavor of this costs an additional $1,000
Con - not sure of the maximum amount of system memory that can be installed in MBOOK PRO..."Apple Chat" guy says 16GB.....you need at least 24 GB...better to have 32 GB for best  operation. Also, some Windows gaming laptops offer internal RAID options for high speed storage ,or, at least two internal HDD bays for SSDs.
In addition : The "Mercury Playback Engine" is a feature of Premiere pro which allows for the "acceleration" of certain effects and operations on the timeline...in many cases eliminating the the need to "render previews" to see what you are doing. When coupled with a capable NVidia GPU, this acceleration can produce a TEN TIMES IMPROVEMENT in processing the effects,or, operations, ( like "scaling"  and resolution conversions ) using the NVidia ONLY CUDA technology.
In summary, the 16GB memory limit , the lower level NVidia mobile GPU, and EXCRUCIATING HIGH PRICE all tip the scales for me to say : NOOOOOO !!!!!......DON'T DO IT !!!
IF a laptop is a MUST.....go with a Windows gaming rig and READ as much as you can first. If a desktop is a possible solution, you can get WAY better performance than a laptop...especially with today's Haswell E CPUs and the X99 motherboards.
I would wait a little bit for all the machines to hit the market which have the NEW " NVMe" PCI SSDs in them, or, build your own on a motherboard which will NATIVELY have that feature.
    Good Luck !

  • Windows 10 Upgrade for a notebook Nvidia Geforce 7150/NForce 630M

I have a HP DV9700 notebook. It originally came with Vista and I was able to upgrade to Windows 7 ultimate with service pack 1. I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 and was given the following message:  unfortunately, this PC is unable to run  Windows 10. Compatibility issue, Nvidia Geforce 7150/nforce 630m the display manufacturer hasn't made your display compatability with Windows 10. I noticed that there were several posts in the desktop forum that gave links to update your display driver to Windows 8 and the work around to install Windows 10. Can anyone help with the laptop?

I used this article and now my Laptop that was told that I cannot use Windows 10 now is running it. A couple bugs but outside of that, works great. http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/windows/how-install-windows-10-now-upgrade-gwx-3575135/

  • Lockups with Nvidia GeForce 8200

I need help trying to figure out why my computer keeps locking up. My computer locks up within a few hours to a few days. 9 out of 10 times it locks up when I'm playing a video. The other times it seemed like it locked up when I was just simply moving the mouse. When it locks up, the entire screen displays one single color (blue or black or green or white or etc). The mouse and keyboard are dead (no lights). I cannot gain access via ssh. The power light and fans keeps running. I can push the reset button and it'll reboot normally.
I'm running Arch64 with the nvidia driver (185.18.31-1) but I've had the same problem in Ubuntu and Fedora. I have a ECS 8200A motherboard (onboard Nvidia GeForce 8200) and AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e.
I've tried the following solutions I found thru Google searches:
    -Reset cmos
-Gave nvida and hda intel their own irq's
    -Tried several kernel parameters including:
    *idle=poll
    *maxcpus=1
*all combos of noapic, irqpoll, and pci=routeirq
    *noapic pci=assign-busses apicmaintimer idle=poll reboot=cold,hard
    *noapic nolapic
-Changed "init display first" in bios from "pci" to "onboard"
-Ran memtest86+ for 12 hours with no problems
-Ran mprime for 2 hours with no problems
    -Updated BIOS to latest version
-Disabled all unused devices in BIOS, CPU/PCI spread spectrum, and Cool 'n Quiet.
-Tried the beta version of nvidia module
-Tried adjusting the cpu voltage in the BIOS but that made my computer unbootable
I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions??

are you using the propriatary drivers? just for sake of troubleshooting you could always try enabling the open-source ones and see if the problem still exists.
i know nvidia's drivers have had off and on issues with memory leaks causing system crashes, dunno if that could be whats causing it, but if it is, it was there in some releases and not others, might be worth a shot trying a different driver version.
The 8200 doesn't work with the open-source "nv" driver. I've tried the beta version of the proprietary nvidia drivers and the 173 version--didn't work. I guess I could try the "vesa" driver tonight and see if my computer still crashes.

My MacBook Pro 15-inch with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processors just failed. Do you guys know if apple still fixes them?

I tried last week. The best I could get was a discount on the repair, but the damage to my logic board by the GPU caused it to no longer boot. The program ended in December last year, but it has been extended in the past.
If you have no other damage you might be able to get a flat rate tier 1 repair if you are in the USA.

    Hi,
I just want to know if my mac book pro 2008 15" with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor can be changed or repaired? My Mac doesnt have display on it...Sometimes it shows up...but after a while its black screen again..tnx

It's a little late for me to jump into your discussion, I only read it when I posted an issue with the same model.
Well, I hope you got it fixed soon enough in 2012, because as I learned in the past few days after purchasing that model and reading up on the issues, Apple stopped the care for this fault on December 7th or so in 2012.
Seeing that people still get problems due to that graphics card, I should try to return the used one I just bought. I might run well now, but who knows how long.

Will Premiere Pro CC work OK with Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M?

This laptop I am on right vnow has a n nVidai GTX 765M and it works beautifully on Premiere CS6, CC and CC 2014.  You do have to add it to the Adobe file "cuda_supported_cards.txt file or simp[ly delete it.  I hope you know that you have to be plugged in to the AC line to successfully what to edit with a laptop.  Also you can improve the GPU performance if you reset the memory clock on the GPU to 1500 MHz from the default 1000 MHz.  It is because nVidia.slows down the clock to conserve battery.  If you register on the site you can see my results on our Premiere Pro BenchMark (PPBM) site.

  • Flickering screen on 13" MBP 2010 with NVIDIA GeForce 320M

Did anyone experience display issues with his / her 13" MacBook Pro (2010) with NVIDIA GeForce 320M? I've been using mine for several weeks and every now and then, the display starts flickering and I have no clue why. Unfortunately, the problem is not easily reproducible and the hardware test from the shipped DVD doesn't report any problem.

I did no longer experience the issue unfortunately / fortunately. No idea what was causing it.
My MacBook Pro is now at Gravis for repair because the left command key keeps popping out. According to the technician there the key itself is broken and he doubts that I can have it repaired under warranty. Questionable quality if keys break during normal usage. It's also the first keyboard in my life that breaks and I really don't hammer on the keys. Maybe I will end up ordering a replacement key on eBay.

  • Running ATI Radeon x1900 XT along with NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Possible?

Can I run the ATI Radeon x1900 XT along with NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT together in my mac pro?

The X1900 would have to go in double wide slot, you would have to run one or both at 8x.
I think something like ATI 2600 might make more sense. The 8800GT is listed as discontinued (have a thread or two about it being EOL). So unless you have the 8800GT may not be an option anyway.
The 4870 + 2600 combo would be best I can think of for us with 1st gen now.
This assumes you simply need to drive 3 monitors. And don't want to wait and see if the Nvidia eVGA GTX 285 (doubtful) will support 1st gen EFI32's.
