ASUS vs. Viewsonic w/mac mini

I'm looking at ASUS 27" LED display or the Viewsonic VX2753 for the mac mini 2011 no optical drive ... anyone have any input on pros and cons of using these monitors for the mac mini? thank you!

No experience with ASUS, but with my poor past experiences with my Viewsonic's longevity, I know which I'd be choosing.

    Hi.
ASUS VW192s detect on Mac mini as Standart VGA monitor without wide resolution 1440x900 !. How fix it ?

Try SwitchRes X to build the missing resolution as a custom resolution.

I recommend the SwitchRes X Control Panel version over the full version for your application.

ASUS VW192s detect on Mac mini as Standart VGA monitor without wide resolution 1440x900 !. How fix it ?

It might also be that the preferences file for displays has become corrupt. Try the following; in /Library/Preferences find the file com.apple.windowserver.plist and throw it in the trash. Find also in /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost the file com.apple.windowserver.xxxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxxx is a string of letters and numbers and yourusername is the name on the main user account and throw that in the trash, too. Then restart and see if the wide screen function returns.

  • Mac Mini Newbie + Viewsonic VX2450WM monitor.  Need HDMI to DVI adapter?  What cords needed?

    Mac Mini Newbie here.
Getting the Viewsonic VX2450WM monitor for it. There is no HDMI on this monitor, but reviews said it's Mac mini compatible.
Do I need to get an additional cord?  HDMI to DVI adapter cable? Does the supplied short white cord inside Mac Mini packaging suffice?
    Thank you!

No, the HDMI on Mini only support digital VGA is analogue
Can the HDMI port drive analog displays (VGA displays for example) using adapters?
No.  The HDMI port will drive digital connections—such as DVI—using the adapter that came with the Mac mini, but cannot be used for analog displays such as VGA. You can purchase a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter separately to drive analog displays.

  • Asus vh232h out of range, Mac mini thunderbolt to vga

    Hey guys,
Pretty much what the title says.....
    Mac mini
Asus vh232h (VGA only, no dvi socket)
    Thunderbolt to VGA adapter
    VGA cable (I've tried several)
(Benq monitor running fine on the hdmi port)
In short, if I use a VGA cable under 1.8m, there's no problem.
If I use a cable of 3m in length, or two x 1.8m cables, I get a "Out of range" message on the monitor.
(My office is shared space, so I need the Mac mini to be inside a lockable cupboard.  That means I need a cable longer than 1.8m)
FYI, I don't seem to be able to set the asus monitor resolution in Mac settings (not sure if it can be done when monitor is 'out of range', but I can see the Asus in Display settings, Arrangement. It looks about half the width and height of the benq.
Is a monitor supposed to connect successfully over a 3 m cable?
Will a thunderbolt to dvi adapter work? (Would have to buy new monitor)
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Darren

Bought a new benq 24" monitor, moshi mini display port to hdmi adapter, and 5m hdmi cable.
    Sorted.
Must be an issue with apple mdp to VGA adapter when using VGA cables over 1.8m long.

  • I used to sync my ipad on an asus laptop, now I have a Mac mini and want to sync with it. Can I? Can things be transferred from laptop to Mac mini?

I synced my ipad2 with an asus laptop. Now I have a Mac mini that I want to use for syncing and backup. But when I connected my ipad to the Mac mini it said something about the ipad being already synced to another computer and backup is permitted only one computer at a time. How can I transfer my backup to the Mac mini ? And delete my previous (I.e. asus laptop) iTunes backup system?

You don't have to delete anything from the Asus. You can copy your iTunes library from the laptop to the Mac. Read this for more information.

  • Since my G5 died I was thinking about getting a Mac Mini, but I have a ViewSonic Monitor (from 2004) and a USB keyboard and mouse - I also have the external drive tha downloaded my files on to. Do you think the monitor, keyboard and mouse will work on it?

Since my G5 died I was thinking about getting a Mac Mini, but I have a ViewSonic Monitor (from 2004) and a USB keyboard and mouse - I also have the external drive that I downloaded my files on to. Do you think the monitor, keyboard and mouse will work on it? Would I have to get a hub so I could use the stuff I already have? Is that viewsonic too old to work on it?
What else would I need? Please advise...

    Yes for keyboard and mouse.
The monitor will work if it has an HDMI, VGA ir DVI input. If it only has a VGA input you will need this adopter

  • Would these Viewsonic Monitors work with the Mac Mini?

    Hi,
I ordered the latest mac mini and I need to order a monitor...Due to my budget constrainsts I cannot order a Dell Ultrasharp, so I'm looking at a viewsonic...
.I want to do some webdesign on it, so I don't need a lot of color accuracy  ....But would this work with the Mac mini?

do I need to buy any type of cable?   the conectors it has are
    15-pin mini D-sub (VGA) / HDMI (x1) , HDMI/MHL (x1)

    Those monitor's will work fine.
One will connect to the Mac Mini's HDMI output port using the supplied HDMI cable.
For the other you will need either a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter or better yet a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter.

Either will work for the second monitor, but personally I would go with the (Digital) HDMI adapter instead of the (Analog) VGA adapter.

  • Mac mini and viewSonic VA1912w

Some people told me that mac minis don't work well with some monitors since its video card system it's not good. Is this a myth. I'm about to purchase a 1.83 Mhz Superdrive and I'll appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

    Hi.
Yes, that monitor works fine with the Mini.
Also, if you want a widescreen display, have a look at the Dell E207WFP (it's one inch bigger than the Viewsonic) in the Dell site. It works like a charm (AFAIK, it uses the same LCD screen as the 20" Apple Cinema Display), and has a very good price, too!

  • Mac mini and viewsonic monitors

Can I connect a mac mini to an older viewsonic monitor that has vga and dvi connections ports?

You bet, just use the supplied HDMI to DVI adapter and a DVI cable.

  • Mac Mini & Viewsonic VG150

I was given an original Mac Mini, 256 MB RAM, no wireless, combo drive, along with a Viewsonic VG150 LCD monitor. However, when I start it up I get the beginning of the boot process and then the monitor goes black. Turning the monitor off and onn results in an "out of range" message. Ok, so I hook it up to a CRT monitor at work and reset the resolution to what the VG150 uses. Go home and hook it up to the VG150 - same problem! However, the VG150 works fine hooked up to my Powerbook.
Ok, make an appointment at the nearest Apple store (only 2 hours away) and take it there. They hook it up to a Dell LCD monitor and the desktop appears. They then reset the resolution and then turn off the mini. Reboot the mini, and the resolution is still set. OK, I bring it back home, hook it up to the VG150 and the problem is back!
So I have an LCD monitor that works fine with another Mac, a Mac Mini that works fine with a CRT or different make LCD, albeit at a different resolution.
The problem seems to be that the Mini won't remember the resolution I set it to, 1024x768. Could this be a PRAM battery? If so, where is the PRAM battery and how do I change it?
If it is NOT a PRAM battery problem, what do I need to fix it? Should I toss the Viewsonic and get a different make of monitor?

It just so happens that I took the mini to work again today and hooked it up to a Dell CRT. It worked fine showing a resolution of 1024 x 768.
I had found an article regarding this problem with two possible fixes: the "Safe Mode" and the "Single User Mode". I then hooked the VG150 to the mini and went the "Safe Mode" route. It came up showing a resolution setting of 800 x 600 (which the VG150 doesn't support with Macs!) I reset it to 1024 x 768 60Hz and restarted. The mini booted up fine and the VG150 worked. I quickly upgraded the OS to 10.3.9, restarted, and repaired permissions. I then shut it down and unplugged it from the power for a couple of hours.
When I plugged it back in and booted it up, it still worked with the VG150. I then powered it down and unplugged it again. I'm going to hook it up in a few days and see what happens. I'm going to go out on a limb here and mark the question as answered. If it DOESN'T work, then I'll have to go the Single-user mode route.

  • HT201177 Mac Mini and Asus VE258Q Issues

Just purchased a Mac Mini. When I hook it up to an Asus VE258Q monitor via HDMI, it looks great until it randomly goes dark for a few seconds, then comes back on (normal). This happens randomly, could be every 30 seconds, a minute, no pattern.
    Any ideas?

I've seen similar results with bad cables or incompatible connections. HDMI is a somewhat complex connection with the copy protection and such, so it's possible that you just have an incompatible (or barely compatible) pair of devices. I'd first just try another cable to rule the cable out. If you still have problems, next step is to try a different connection type. I use a DisplayPort to DVI cable to my HP 24" LCD which works great. It looks like your LCD is newer and has a native DisplayPort connection, so you might be able to use a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, which is slightly simpler from a signal connection perspective (as far as I understand it). Good luck!

  • Logging into Mac mini from Asus Router

    Hi guys,
I am absolutely stumped on this and really need some help. I brought an asus router, which includes a feature called AIcloud. Now, this feature allows you to access shared folders on the mac through the router itself.
Now I have a sinology disk station and i can login into this, no problem.
However, for the life of me, I cannot login to my Mac Mini.
    This is the login screen.

  • Need help W/ USB camera (integrated in ViewSonic LCD) to work W/Mac mini

I own an View Sonic LCD Monitor, Model: VX2255wm (USB web cam integrated)
I connected the display and USB camera to a Mac Mini Running Mac OSX 10.5.2 and 2 GB of memory. It also has an Intel Core Solo processor.
For some reason the USB camera will not work correctly with Photo Booth. ( it shuts it off when I want to use it and it sends an error message to apple).
I tried it with iChat and the camera turned on ok and it did not shut off the program. I tried contacting ViewSonic to see if they had any drivers that I could install in the Mac mini to help it work better, unfortunately they told me to contact Apple. So here I am.
Can anyone help me out to figure out what I can do to get this issue fixed? I am new to Macs and I am learning that overall they are so easy to use and do not have any problems connecting any hardware to Macs, this is the first issue I have come across and would like to have it solved so that I am able to use Photo Booth Again. Would anyone know if Apple has some generic drivers that could help me get that USB camera to work correctly?
I appreciate any help I can get.
    Thank you
P.S. The LCD works perfect, its just the camera I have problems with.

    Hi Jedihunter6X9-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
First of all realize that for the most part no one here is officially "Apple". We are all users just like yourself.
That being said, I can assure you that it is a monitor manufacturer's responsibility to both provide drivers for a Mac-compatible device and to update them to keep them current with any OS updates.
The reason that they sent you in this direction is because they don't market that monitor as being compatible with a Mac, and in fact ViewSonic's website lists PC only as a compatible computer.
There may be a generic driver and hopefully someone in the community has been able to get this to work and will share.
    Luck-
