AT Commands over Bluetooth RS232 Connection

Hi all and thank you in advance.
I am trying hard to locate security related information about the following. If I establish an RS232 connection with a mobile phone through Bluetooth, is it possible then to utilize that connection to issue AT commands to the mobile phone in order to invoke the cellular modem? I have the impression that under MIDP such functionality is deliberately restricted for security reasons. Is this true?
PS.I know there are similar posts in the forum but non of them has been answered so I’m giving it a try.
Once again... thank you.

seanfisher, welcome to the forum. Please don't post in threads that are long dead. This question was asked 3½ years ago and it's hardly likely that Habib9, who hasn't visited these forums in the last 2½ years, is still waiting for an answer.
I'm locking this thread now and blocking your post.

  • Query text fileds with ADO/OLEDB connection (Set command over ADO is it pos

    Dear Oracle users,
I try to query the TEXT field of dba_views but run into the problem that the return
lengths is limited to 80 characters.
On iSQLplus I can use the command e.g. "set long 1000".
If I try to use this command over the ADO connection before I start my SQL query I get an error (assumingly because the set commandos cannot be used over ADO connections ?).
Is there a way to be able to query text fields with more than 80 characters using ADO/OLEDB ?
    Hope someone can help.
    Best regards,

    Hi Jon,
Well, I think I've got it working, but I'm not really happy with my work around.
I tried upgrading to version 2 of .NET (I was using v1.1) But there was no change, I also modified the code so that it destroyed the connection to the ADO after each INSERT and before each get string, but it still failed in the middle of the same directory.
I've just inserted a wait statment which delays every itteration by 200 ms and that actually seems to have fixed things... I say "Seems" because I've been running the program for 45 minutes now and I'm less than a third of the way through the directories! (previous execute time was 7 mins)
This delay occured to me because the problems started when I changed the parsing sequence to improve the speed of the opperation.
However, this is not exactly an ideal sollution... Do you think the problem is with the ActiveX "connection" or the actual database connection?
Any help would be appreciated because the running speed is now immpractical and I'm not sure why this should have worked.
    Thanks - Pete

  • Sharing internet connection over bluetooth

i have 2 computers less than 10 metres apart, one of which is connected to the internet broadband. the solution for sharing the connection wirelessly with this particular setup is rather expensive.
i was wondering if it would be possible to share the internet connection on the computer that has it over bluetooth with the other computer.
i read an archived response suggesting that it was. can someone confirm?
    just to be clear:
i hoping to have 2 computers bluetooth connected the second of which will be able to connect to the internet via the 1st computers connection.

While it is not explicitly supported by OS X, both machines can be configured to do this. For lots of reasons, I don't think that this is a good idea. Your Bluetooth link is so slow compared to either a wireless—or even much faster terrestrial—ethernet link, that it's not worth the effort to enable this service.
Save yourself a great deal of grief and disappointment, and get ahold of a relatively inexpensive ethernet gateway [wired or wireless] and set up a small local area network. You will be far more secure, and enjoy a far better level of performance than you would see if you attempted to create a Bluetooth LAN.
That said, here is a set of instructions for enabling internet sharing using Terminal commands. It's paraphrased from…
    http://www.macgeekery.com/hacks/pppoverbluetooth
In the Bluetooth preference pane's sharing tab, make a new Serial Port Service and name it bt-ppp and make it an RS-232 device. If it's on, disable internet sharing in the Sharing prefpane. Then create the following script [shown below.]
The script starts pppd on the new Bluetooth serial device you've created, then sets up IP forwarding, NAT, and the like. The en0 can be replaced with en1 if your primary net connection is AirPort. You can change the IP listed to something appropriate for your network, as well. If you put it in the range of IPs you're already using for your home network, natd is smart enough to work as a router instead of a gateway. Run as root, but—for the love of all that is holy and just—use sudo instead of su.
This is the script you must run in terminal:
    /usr/sbin/pppd /dev/tty.bt-ppp 115200 noauth local passive proxyarp asyncmap 0 silent persist :10.1.1.25 &
    /usr/sbin/sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
    /usr/sbin/natd -same_ports -use_sockets -log -deny_incoming -interface en0
/sbin/ipfw add divert natd ip from any to any via en0
If you are unfamiliar with issuing commands from the Terminal or are not familiar with what these unix commands mean, I would suggest that you proceed very cautiously, and do more research before attempting this.

  • My iPhone 5 won't connect to my macbook pro retina over bluetooth?

My iPhone 5 won't connect to my macbook pro retina over bluetooth?

Ah, sure it actually won't.  I have the same problem, and I contacted Apple Support.  They told me that there is an incompatability between the iphone 5 and MacBook Pro Retina such that Bluetooth pairing is not possible.
The Support Agent actually had the audacity to tell me this was part of the design of the OS on the MacBook Pro, like Windows people saying, "That's not a bug.  It's a feature!!"
Personally, I think this is insane.  While I was trying to tether the iphone to the MacBook Pro retina for an internet connection, there are other reasons related to file transfers for which one would want to pair the iphone 5 with the MacBook Pro retina.
I am hoping this "feature" is fixed in iOS 7, and/or in some dot release of Mac OS 10.8.
By the way, the personal hotspot feature on my Verizon iphone 5 works great either via a wifi or USB connection.  There are occaisions, however, when one would 1) not have a USB cable, and/or 2) have another wifi relationship between the phone and a network that one would not want to have to "forget" in order for it not to connect to that wifi network.  The Macbook will not find the iphone as a wifi hotspot if the iphone is connected to wifi in the first place.  At least mine won't.

  • TCP/IP connections over Bluetooth

I am trying to connect two devices using TCP/IP over bluetooth; two Macs or one Mac and one other Linux based device. I have found a solution using mRouter which was part of SyncServices but was removed in 2005 (Security Update 2005-004) due to a buffer overflow exploit and mRouter is no longer available (its developer, Intuwave, has disappeared as well).
I'm pretty sure that there has to be a way of doing this but I have failed to find it. Yes I know I could use Wifi or a cable but this particular project requires it to be done via bluetooth. Anyone got any ideas?
    TIA

  • Can't connect N73 to PC over bluetooth

I can't connect N73 to PC over bluetooth with new Nokia PC Suite v6.84.10.4, I get this message "Cannot use the connection type. Check that all the needed hardware, software and drivers are available". This happened after I instaled new version of PC Suite and the patch to v6.84 didn't help.

I think the problem is in bluesoleil software It looks like PC Suit does not work with latest IVT Bluesoleil version 3.2.2.8. I tried with and witout patch and I even installed older version of PC Suite that worked before with older version of bluesoleil....

  • Pan connection over bluetooth

    hi
is it possible to implement pan connection (tcpip) over bluetooth
using sun java wireless toolkit ? , i know that nokia implementation of jsr-82
    don't a low it !

You can tether the phone to the laptop if your provider supports it to share your internet connection on the phone to the laptop, but the only way to do it the other way around is if you were to create a wifi network with the laptop and select it in the phone and use the phone on it. You cannot connect the iPhone to the Mac via bluetooth to share the Mac's internet connection.

  • IPhone and IMac Will Not Connect Over Bluetooth

I've had an Iphone for a while and recently purchased an Imac. I've been trying to get my Iphone and Imac to synch through Isync over the bluetooth connection to sync the contacts on my I phone with the Imac. The Imac discovers and recognizes the Iphone, I enter the passkey to pair the 2 and then I get this message: "There were no configurable services found on your device."
If anyone has any suggestions on how to get past this I would appreciate it.
    Paulg

Firstly, you can't sync an iPhone over Bluetooth - that's why it won't work. Only via USB cable.
Secondly, you use iTunes for syncing iPhones, not iSync.
Bluetooth in the iPhone is for Bluetooth headsets, nothing else.

  • No sound from GB over Bluetooth connection

The function to perform sound of Garageband over Bluetooth doesn't work well!
The I-pad settings  to play sound over BT are correct.
The pairing with my (bluetooth) VOIIS gateway was succesful.
Music (sound)  from my I-Pad (i.e. Music APP) is transmitted correct to my amplifier  through this device.
The special setting in Garageband have been done ( sound over Bluetoorth/HDMI)
however the sound of Garageband over Bluetooth is not transmitted to my BT device.
Without Bluetooth setting it is working well (sound from I-pad speakers (i should say squeeckers ))

    The problem is solved!
I did what you suggest a couple of times, but i had no luck.
What might have somehow fixed the problem: I opened iWeb, and then previewed a GB song to import. It played great.
Then I opened GB and everything worked...
    Strange.
Thank you all for your help anyway!

  • Intermittent Voice Control Over Bluetooth

I'm finding that voice control over Bluetooth using my Plantronics 510 headset regularly stops working, while other Bluetooth functions remain active.
Normally, holding the button on the headset down will activate Voice Control. I can hear the "listening" tone, and the phone responds to my command (e.g. "Call Telecon One Work").
On several occasions, I've found that holding the button fails to activate Voice Command, but other BT functions controlled by the headset button still work - a double press, for example, still redials the last number. After rebooting the phone, voice command is once again available by pushing the headset button.
OT - At some point, it would be nice if iPhone OS 3.1 was added to the list of OS choices in the pulldown menu for discussion posts.

I'm having the same problem. For me, the problem only starts after I plug in the iPhone to charge (while connected to the bluetooth).
Is that the same for you?

  • IPhone 5 won't play audio over Bluetooth in 2012 Lexus GX 460

My iPhone 5 can connect via Bluetooth to my 2012 Lexus GX460.  I can make and receive calls over car speaker/Bluetooth.
However, when I attempt to connect and play music, it says Bluetooth connection failed -- Please see portable player settings.
Are there new settings on the iPhone to have the audio played over Bluetooth?
My iPhone 4S and 4 worked perfectly.  Now, the iPhone 5 has issues.
    I have tried this:
    1. Removed the phone from the GX 460
    2. Added the phone back using password
    3. Says it is connected and I can make/receive calls
Since the audio did not work, I tried:
    1. Turned off Bluetooth on the iPhone
    2. Turned off the iPhone
    3. Removed the phone from the GX 460
    4. Turned off the GX 460
    5. Started the GX 460
    6. Turned on the iPhone
    7. Turned on Bluetooth
    8. Paired the phone with the GX 460
    9. Calls can be made/received, but audio still does not connect
Lexus has not returned any calls/messages on this one -- hoping someone may have an answer.
    Thanks!

Had this problem in my 2012 IS F.  Fixed it by going to 'SETUP' -> 'Audio' -> BLuetooth settings.  Deleted the existing pairings and then repaired my phone.  Bingo!
