AT-GPIB card illegal operation

I have recently installed the software for the AT-GPIB card onto my PC, running WIN98. When I click on the icon for GPIB.com I receive an error message of an illegal operation. The program tried to execute an invalid instruction. Fault location 2B12:0102. Interrupts in service: none.
Many of the icons work such as ibdiag and ibtest, but many that apparently work off of GPIB.com give the same message. What do I need to do to get my card to work properly so I no longer recieve this message and can use my card properly. Thanks

Chris,
Are you using a DOS program, or a Windows 3.x program? This changes the method that you need to use to install the driver and which driver you need.
If you are using a DOS-only application that is not Windows 3.x aware, note the following paragraph on the link I gave you previously:
"Information about DOS GPIB applications
For DOS GPIB applications, you need to download the latest DOS software for your GPIB hardware. Below is the list of the GPIB Software for DOS that is in PKZIP format. Then to help you configure your GPIB hardware and software, please refer to the Using Your NI-488.2 Software for DOS or Windows 3 with Windows 98/95 Manual. This manual also explains how to create a special DOS Shell from which you can run DOS type
GPIB applications."
It sounds as though you have the Win16 driver working properly right now (since the Win16 interactive control can presumably do an "ibfind gpib0" and not get EDVR), so I assume you have a DOS program. If this is the case, you need to focus on the directions for "DOS Only" in the manual mentioned above. Once you get IBIC working properly inside of DOS, you should be all set.

Found a lengthy thread on nVidia's website regarding this issue. It looks like the problem impacts machines running 8800GTS video cards. nVidia is blaming Apple even though it appears to be an nVidia driver issue. The work-around is to disable the directdraw acceleration in the Advanced tab of Quicktime; however, this will make video choppy. Here is the link to the thread...

  • How do I use multiple GPIB cards in one computer?

I have two GPIB cards installed in my computer. One has aprimary address 0 and the other is 1. The card with adress 0 works fine but when I try to communicate with some instrument via the second card, the instructions are not carried out. However MAX ha detected the presence of instruments on both the cards, but it is only that when the second card(address 1) is used the intructions are not carried to the instrument. Please advise on how to select the card while sending an instruction? Or is it that I can use only one card at a time??

When you say that your commands aren't carried out, could you describe what commands you are sending, and what error is being returned?
When you say that you cannot communicate with the second instrument, are you using the 488.2 Communicator in MAX?
Did you make sure that all the settings for the second GPIB board in the properties page are correct?

  • I have problems with pci-gpib card under windows me, What I need to know what to do in order to fix this problems?

Hi, I have installed a pci-gpib card in my computer, I have a problem with
installation, the message of troubleshooting wizard is as follow:
"One or more missing GPIB interfaces.
There are several reasons why you might encounter this problem:
Reason: Your GPIB interface is incorrectly installed.
Solution: Please verify that your GPIB interface is correctly installed
and rerun the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard.
    Reason: You are using a non-Plug-and-Play interface (e.g., AT-GPIB/TNT,
GPIB-PCII/IIA, GPIB-ENET) and you did not use the Add New Hardware Wizard
to add the interface to your system properly.
    Solution: Click th
e Add Hardware button and the Add GPIB Hardware wizard
will guide you through the process of adding GPIB hardware.
Reason: For the GPIB-USB and GPIB-1394, the host controller (USB or 1394)
must be working properly in order to use the GPIB interface.
Solution: Click on the System Details button for details about the USB and
    1394 host controllers.
Reason: For the PCMCIA-GPIB and PCMCIA-GPIB+, the PCMCIA host controller
must be working properly in order to use the GPIB interface.
Solution: Use the Windows Device Manager to verify that your PCMCIA host
controller is functioning correctly. Start the control panel by selecting
"Start>>Settings>>Control Panel", open the System icon and select the
Device Manager page. If you select "View devices by type", you can look at
the PCMCIA socket properties to ensure it is correctly enabled."
And on system details the message is the next:
"USB Driver type: USB universal host controller"
"This version of windows does not su
    pport IEEE 1394."
I am using Windows Me, so i want to know what i need to do to fix this
    problems.
    Best regards.

If you have a PCI-GPIB card, you needn't worry about the USB port or whether or not Windows ME supports 1394. All you need in NI-488.2 version 1.70 from National Instruments. Install this driver and then insert your card. Windows should detect the card and find the proper driver.
If this did not happen in the proper sequence, look in the device manager and see if the card was installed as an "other device". If this happens, remove the card in the device manager and have windows redetect it. If this is not a solution, you may consider the ask an engineer page at www.ni.com/ask. Provide as many details as possible.

  • CTplay2 has performed an illegal operation when trying to rip a track from a cd into Playcent

I have had Creative Playcenter for about three years with no problems until a week ago.
I was surfing the Internet and while on one webpage, I had the Playcenter
playing a playlist, the computer locked up after I tried to close a pop up ad. After rebooting, the Playcenter lost the list of tracks, it had the albums and artist lists, yet the track list showed "0". I uninstalled and reinstalled the software and reloaded
the tracks from the Nomad and now I am unable to rip tracks from cd's. I am able to convert existing wave files ripped from other cd ripping software yet cannot use the Creative Playcenter rip and convert feature without encountering this illegal operation message then it shuts it down. It's able to create the file where the mp3's are stored, but unable to tranfer the MP3 to it. No other changes have been made to my computer either. I just hope that I do not have to do a dreaded format and reinstall to fix this.
I really like this Creative product since I have had it have not had any problems with either the Nomad Jukebox or the software until the Internet surfing incident about a week ago

The original version that came with the installation disc "3.02.58". I have not updated it since I installed the first time because I had not had any problems with it until recently.
Also I forgot to mention in my first post, I have added some extra system sounds to my computer and that may have contributed to the problem of it freezing up at the time I clicked on the pop up ad in order to close it out. Some of the sounds activate during "restore up" and "minimize", the sounds or other Windows sounds do not activate while Playcenter is in use.

  • 9.0.124.0 Update - Firefox Illegal Operation

My system, Windows XP SP3, IE 7, Firefox 2.0 , Flash Player
9.0.124.0. After a recent Windows update which included SP3 I had
to install Flash Player latest version for IE7. The normal Flash
download and install wouldn't work. It caused IE7 to crash
repeatedly. Followed Adobe's online recommendations - uninstall and
redownload didn't work. Downgrading IE7 security to medium didn't
work. The Adobe Flash uninstall tool didn't work. Their final
online solution (which required several steps) regarding Windows
registry permissions was successful for IE7in my case: from the
    Adobe technote -
"Download SubInACL from Microsoft to fix permission issues that
prevent the Flash Player installation. For instruction on how to
run SubInACL to fix these permission issues please refer to
"Download SubInACL from Microsoft to fix permission issues that
prevent the Flash Player installation" (TechNote fb1634cb)."
Of course I was using Firefox 2.0 to do this online
troubleshooting (version info: latest version - Mozilla/5.0
    (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080404
Firefox/2.0.0.14). Flash had always worked fine in Firefox
previously for me. Firefox is my preferred (default) browser. I use
IE7 only for a very few Microsoft and other sites that
display/download correctly only via IE7 (including Microsft
Update). Now following the suggested IE7 fix, my Firefox
    Flashplayer plugin is broken.
When I first opened Firefox after the IE7 fix, any pages with
Flash reported the missing plugin message. Using the Firefox
"Install missing plugins" feature tried to install the Flash Player
Plugin but failed. Visiting the Adobe website and following the
download and install Flash Player instructions with Firefox seemed
to work. The Flash plugin reported successful install. Now visiting
almost any Flash enabled website in Firefox results in this Firefox
    error message -
"Shockwave flash: The plugin has performed an illegal operation.
You are strongly advised to restart Firefox"
Now uninstalling and re-installing Flashplayer are not
working for Firefox. Searching the forums here doesn't give any
recent instance of this error message for version 9.0.124.0 (that I
can find anyway...) that seem pertinent. I need to get Adobe Flash
Player working with Firefox 2.0 again. Any help appreciated.
    - note - don't use any 3rd party pop-up blockers etc. Do use
anti-virus AVG 8.0 Free (disabled for installs/uninstalls) with
their LinkScanner tool disabled. thx - Andy

  • How do I determine the interrupt detection sequences for an HP 82350A PCI GPIB card?

I am trying to install an HP 82350A PCI GPIB card in CentOS 6.4. I have installed NI-VISA 5.4.
I tinkered around and found driverwizard in /usr/local/bin. It creates an ini file to control the PCI GPIB card.
I had somehow succeeded in detecting the card (PXI3::0::INSTR). My driverwizard output looks like this
    [Module]
ModuleName = "PLX PCI <-> IOBus Bridge"
    ModuleVendor = "PLX Technology, Inc."
    ModelCode = 0x9050
    ManufCode = 0x10B5
    SubsystemModelCode = 0x10B0
    SubsystemManufCode = 0x103C
    VISARegistration = Simple
As you can see, it does not have interrupt handling built into it, so I cannot access it properly.
How do I set up interrupt handling for this card? What are the specifications for the following fields?
    Interrupt Detection:
    Access Type
    Access Width
    Address Space
    Space Offset
    Compare Mask
    Write/Compare Value
    Interrupt Removal:
    Access Type
    Access Width
    Address Space
    Space Offset
    Compare Mask
    Write/Compare Value
    Interrupt Disarm:
    Access Type
    Access Width
    Address Space
    Space Offset
    Compare Mask
    Write/Compare Value
This is the first time I have tried hacking at the PCI interrupt level. At the very least, how do I find out the values for the above parameters? Or at best, straight away what are the values for those parameters?

Their IO Libraries Suite supports only Windows. Our lab probably used Windows before. This 82350A card is quite ancient. I need to use this because we also have ancient instruments that do not have Ethernet.

  • GPIB communication with GPIB (NI PCMCIA-GPIB)card in Visual Basic

I have a old program in Visual Basic which works fine in windows 98 using the desktop, but using my laptop with windows 2000 on it and NI PCMCIA-GPIB card it fails to communicate and running the program does not recognize the sendIFC command. I am new to VB, so can someone tell me what am I missing here. thanks

    Hello,
Is the PCMCIA card recognized by the NI-488.2 driver on your laptop? Are you able to communicate from Measurement and Automation with your instrument? What do you mean it does not recognize the sendIFC command? Does Visual Basic give you a runtime or a compile time error? Are you using the latest version of the driver? (Usually 2.1 unless you're on 95 or NT with your card)
You can try out the Visual Basic language examples in the 488.2 directory under Languages as these will let you know whether or not the driver is installed correctly.

  • Search Server Error - Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion

    Hello,
I have a 5 server farm (DC, 2 WFEs, 1 SQL,1 CA w/ search) and am experiencing an issue when returning search results.  This issue just started occurring recently, and basically the search page throws a correlation id whenever used.  The error returned
    is:
SearchServiceApplication::Execute--Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800703FA): Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800703FA)

is equal to An ExceptionDetail, likely created by IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults=true, whose value is: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800703FA)
I even attempted to create an out of the box enterprise search site with OOB masterpages and I still am receiving this error.
I have also tried the  ‘Do not forcefully unload the registry at user logoff’ registry edit, but it did not work.
Has anyone ran into this issue and has another solution other than the ‘Do not forcefully unload the registry at user logoff’ registry edit?
    Thanks!

  • Differences between NI PCMCIA GPIB cards

    I have a PCMCIA-GPIB+ card , part # 182826B-01
    Q1 - Is this a 16-bit interface?
Q2 - Are the newer PCMCIA NI cards 32 bit?
Since some of the expresscard adapters only support 32bit PCMCIA cards, these are important questions.
    Thanks

For all those wishing to use their 16 bit pcmcia gpib card in Express card slots, I have verified that the following vendor's card works beautifully without any new drivers.
Please search for  ExpressCard 34 to PCMCIA PC CardBus 16/32-bit Read-Writer Express2PCC.

  • Is there example code for using Ni488 and PCI-GPIB card in non controller mode?

Is there example code for using Ni488 and PCI-GPIB card in non controller mode?

    cymrieg,
Your code looks good to me. What is the problem? What happens when it fails? What is the IBSTA value on the controller, and at what point in the code does it stop? What is the IBSTA value on the slave, and at what point does it stop?
One thing is that you might not want to call IBCLR() in a loop on the device. At the beginning of the program is fine...This will send a clear command to the device and will clear out any LACS and TACS bits that might be set. Also your IBDEV call shouldn't be in a loop.
Hope this helps, but let me know if you need more information.

  • Symbolic name for PCI-GPIB card

I am using Agilent's ADS2002 to interact with an HP 8722D VNA via a PCI-GPIB card. I need a symbolic name for the card in order to write or read from the instrument; I've tried the suggested GPIB0 and GPIB1, as well as a few other guesses. Nothing on the card looks like a card number or symbolic name. How can I determine what the symbolic name should be? Thanks.

    Hello-
Be sure that the GPIB board passes diagnostics. Also, try doing a Scan for Instruments in MAX. It may be that the board is not yet recognized.
Also, consider using a programming language other than ADS. It may be easier for future upgrades to use a language like C or LabVIEW.

I believe I can answer a few of your questions. If you would like to speak to an NI Technical Sales Representative for some of the parts that I am not able to answer, please call 888-280-7645. To connect to your instruments, you will need:
    1. A GPIB interface (either a PCI solution, USB solution, or some other interface card)
    2. A GPIB cable for each device (this depends somewhat on the distance between them as there are certain distance ratings on GPIB cables
Drivers are included with the purchase of the GPIB interface (the ethernet GPIB interface requires a separate license for its driver, but the USB and PCI versions are downloadable off of NI's website).

  • GAIN PHASE Data collection from HP4194 using a GPIB card?

I'm trying to collect gain and phase data on a HP4194 using a GPIB card. I'd like to collect this data and run it to an MS Excel spreadsheet. Does any one have any VI's that do this??? So far, I haven't been able to find any commands that read each of the 401 elements to labview.

That sounds like a bit of LabVIEW coding. Here's some resource that will help:
-The instrument driver for this device is available at ni.com/idnet.
-LabVIEW has a WriteToSpreadSheet.vi on the File I/O function pallete.
-The Programmer's Reference for the 4194 gives the strings to send of the GPIB bus.
