At start up, use firefox as browser

I have an old Safari browser version as well as the latest Firefox for my Mac OS 10.6.8
I have set Safari Version 5.1.10 (6534.59.10) to use Firefox 37.0.2 as my default browser. Apple no longer supports OS 10.6.8 with the latest Safari browser.
I have set Firefox to Always check if firefox is your default browser.
In the Firefox 37.0.2 General tab, it says "Firefox is currently your default browser".
When I shut down and restart, my Mac always opens up using Safari.
What must I do to get it to open up in Firefox?

Setting firefox as your default browser means that links you click in an email, etc, will open in firefox. If safari is opening when you log in, you probably have it set to do so in system preferences. Go to the system preferences app > users and groups > your account name > "login items" tab. If you see safari there, remove it, and add firefox.

  • "Use Firefox Web Browser (default)" instead of trying to render a page starts FF again

Expected behaviour: Firefox actually trying to open a document.
What happens: Firefox, ''as the default option'', re-feeds a document to itself in a roundabout way that leads only to repeating the same choice. If "Do this automatically..." box is checked, this causes ''spamming tabs or windows recursively''. Which certainly constitues a bug.
Happens e.g. when trying to open HTML pages that have ".asp" extension due to being saved with original server filenames. Which also is the easiest way to reproduce this bug. Same files renamed or ''hard''linked as "*.asp.html" open normally, thus it happens only due to "Open with: Use Firefox Web Browser (default)" choice not working correctly. I didn't find addons to circumvent this, either.

    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

  • Have disabled IE on windows pc and am using Firefox as browser. iTunes now says cannot connect to internet even though Firefox working: suggestions

Have disabled IE on windows pc and am using Firefox as browser. iTunes now says cannot connect to internet even though Firefox working: suggestions?

There is a plugin for Firefox - see here
    http://latestversionplugin.com/current-version-plugin-itunes-application-detecto r.html
It should be installed automatically if you install iTunes, but I guess when you installed iTunes you didn't have Firefox.  Just reinstall iTunes and it should work OK  (your iTunes library will not be affected)

  • How to I save an internet page to the window tiles on the start page, using firefox?

I just switched to firefox and would like to use it for the tiles I have saved on my start page. How do I get those saved tiles to now use the firefix browser instead of Internet Explorer?

If this is something in Windows and the about:newtab page in Firefox then make sure that those tiles use the default browser and that Firefox is set correctly as the default browser.

    Hello Devin.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • On 1 pc that is partitioned, both identities are using FireFox as their browser, but one identity can see all images on webpages the other can't - how do I fix

On a pc that is partitioned, both identities are using FireFox as browser. On one ID they can see all images on a website, such as CNN or NYT.com but on the other most of the images (within the story content and advertising images on borders of webpages) are missing. I'm not sure why this is happening, but I need help to fix it.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.image pref should be 1.
If background images are missing then make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows Accessibility settings and that you allow pages to choose their colors in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"
There are also extensions like Adblock Plus (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images and other content.

Have you tried to install PDF Viewer (the open html5 pdf viewer from firefox) in chromium? Maybe that way it will open pdf files directly in chromium. I use it myself because is an open option rather than the chrome viewer, and it works perfect for me.

When I start mozilla firefox web browser, sometimes I see a message saying that "a Mozilla Firefox is already running, please close it or restart your system". As a matter of fact, there is no firefox browser running at that time. Since I cannot do anything about it, I have to restart my computer before I can use the web browser, which bothers me dearly. What is the problem?

Plug-in and tasks started by Firefox may continue after attempting to close Firefox. The "X" in the upper right-hand corner closes the Window (same as Ctrl+Shift+W) but even if it is the last Firefox window, it does not necessarily close Firefox .
'''The only proper way to exit Firefox is to use Exit through the File menu''', not the "X" in the upper right corner of last Firefox window.

'''Windows 7''' users can use '''Ctrl+Shift+Esc''' to get to the Windows Task Manager quicker than starting with Ctrl+Alt+Del.

  • I'm using Firefox 37.0.2 in Windows 7, but every time I click on a photo in Flickr it tells me my browser is old and unsupported and that I need to upgrade

What can I do to make a website realize that I'm using the most up-to-date version of Firefox. Flickr, from Yahoo, keeps trying to get me to "upgrade my browser" to something newer when I'm using my preferred browser (Firefox) and I have the latest version for Windows 7. Each time I click a photo to view it, it tries to steer me away from Firefox, and I have no intention of using IE or Google Chrome, or anything else.

I'm not able to reproduce this. I wonder if it is being caused by a plugin or add-on.
