At startup, Firefox automatically opens between 9 and 20 individual browswers.

Every time I start up my laptop (Dell Inspiron), Firefox automatically opens at least 9 (often more, the number varies) individual browsers. Each browser has just one tab -- the Firefox Start page with Google search (http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official).
I've clicked through all the options in Firefox, but I have no idea how to fix this. I also Googled for similar problems, and was unable to find anything.
I set the "This happened" field below to "Every time Firefox opened," but really it should be "Every time I turned my laptop on."

What kind of file format, raw or JPEG? If JPEG then you'll need to set your Camera Raw Preferences correctly to have JPEGs open in Camera Raw.

It sounds like you are not flipping the side switch but the phone keeps muting and unmuting by itself.
I would start by toggling the side switch manually to mute, then unmute. Then evaluate it for a bit. If the issue persists, reset the phone with this article and test the issue.

How do I stop Firefox automatically opening and forcing me onto a second tab with a Google sign-in every time I open Firefox?

Every time I open Firefox to search for something - it automatically opens a second tab and forces me to that tab. On the second tab is the Google account login. I now avoid using Firefox if I can because I cannot shut this off.

Does this also happen in Safe Mode? You can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

When sharing a link or page via email, either the webpage or Firefox will open up Internet Explorer to share the link or page. As I use Thunderbird for emailing, could Firefox open Thunderbird automatically instead of internet Explorer?

From Firefox, I click on "File' and then 'Email link'.
This results in a new Outlook message opening automatically, with the URL copied into the body of the message.
I then add my own text, see the screenshot image. That's where the formatting problems come in!

Why does Firefox not open my windows and tabs from last time until I have tried starting 3 or 4 times?

I have this problem with opening Firefox:
My Startup options are set to "When Firefox starts: Show my windows and tabs from last time"
However, each time I start Firefox, by clicking the icon in the Taskbar, it opens with a single blank tab.
I repeat this using "Open New Window" and when I have up to 3 windows, all with single blank tabs open, I close them all. Once more I use "Open New Window" which only then opens with my windows and tabs from last time.
Naturally, this induces initial panic each time, because I dread the thought of losing all my current tabs.
What is going on here?
How can I fix it?

This started happening to me with the upgrade to v30. Previously, new windows did the proper thing of showing previous tabs/windows.
I have history on, not in private mode, and have cleared cache.

When I want to mail a web-page or link firefox keeps opening new windows and cannot be stopped.

My laptop is a Samsung R730 (quite happy with it). I use Eudora for e-mailing. If I want to mail a web-page or link and click under 'file'to send it, Firefox starts opening new tabs without stopping up to over a hundred. I have to brutally switch off my lap-top, start agaiu. Restart Firefox which wants to open all the old tabs, click it off quickly. After that I can reopen to normal.

You get that problem if you select the Firefox program to handle a file if you get an "open with" dialog.

Is it possible that you actually have two Firefox windows open and Windows 7 is showing one Firefox on the System task bar, but if you were wave mouse over that, you might see two windows.
To Close Firefox use File > Exit (Alt+F > Exit)
and not the X in the upper right corner which only closes the Window and may or may not close Firefox if it is the last window. The reason it does not always close Firefox is that there may be other tasks running so you don't see Firefox anywhere but in the System Task Manager on the Processes Tab which is where you can see if firefox.exe is running or not. Shortcut to Task Manager on Windows 7 is Ctrl+Shift+Esc (for other Windows systems Ctrl+Alt+Del , select Task Manager,...)

Firefox automatically opens on closed tabs even though i have "open on homepage" enabled

Every time i close firefox the tabs i have open are saved and opened when i start firefox next time. Very annoying since i have FF set to open on homepage.

Make sure that you close Firefox properly to prevent session restore from opening a possibly crashed session.

Stop Firefox automatically opening homepage when opening links in external apps.

When Firefox is not running, and intermittently when running and there are no windows open, clicking a link in another program (such as Tweetie or Apple's Mail.app) causes Firefox to open a second window with my homepage in it.
I cannot find a way to disable this in settings, and it happens on 3.6 and 4.0 Beta, both Windows and Mac (haven't tried Linux).
If this is a "feature" please let me know if there is a way of preventing it as it's very frustrating. If I want to open my homepage I will open the app manually by clicking it's icon, otherwise I want just my link to open and nothing else.

Automatic switch between 720p and 1080i

I just got FiOS installed today and as I was going through the menu, I noticed that for the video resolution, you are forced to pick a format. Is there a way to set it up so that the STB automatically picks the resolution that the broadcaster has chosen? I don't want to watch everything in 1080i or 720p. I'd like to watch it as the channel has chosen to send the signal

Also, you have an option you can set for the SD channels (SD Override). I prefer OFF, which means that the SD channels are sent to my TV also using 1080i. This results in a slightly worse SD picture than using 480i or 480p, but eliminates the extremely annoying 2-4 second delay (HDMI re-sync) when switching between HD and SD channels. Again, I suggest you try the various settings and pick the one that you like best (or hate less?)

Hello,
I appreciate particularly the personal / business home screen content differentiation on the E55. My wife uses E75 and appraises it as well. We have a problem though: it is quite boresome to have to switch manually when you leave or come home.
Does anyone know that can be done automatically, for example during business days and hours ?

1. it takes between 4 and 6 minutes to get it started. I have gone through the different steps suggested in the "Compétence Mac" magasine in French but to no avail.
2. my Mac will shut down once a day without warning.

OK, so the slowdown problem started before you’d installed Mavericks. Did you have 10.6.8 installed when you’d installed Mavericks, or did you have a different version of OS X installed when you’d installed Mavericks? Were you using Time Machine before you’d installed Mavericks?
To know whether your installed software is Mavericks-compatible, you’ll need to check the Web sites of the creators of those software packages. Some software will work under Mavericks even if the creator of the software has not confirmed it to work under Mavericks, but some software needs to be updated to work under Mavericks. Unfortunately it’s not simple to generalize about which software is able to work under Mavericks without needing changes, so checking the creators’ Web sites is the best approach to take.
There was a problem reported with some Western Digital drives running under Mavericks — more details can be found in the Mavericks section of this Web site. I think that it was related to software that was preïnstalled by Western Digital on some of its drives, but I didn’t pay close attention, since I don’t have a Western Digital drive myself.
When you start up your MacBook Pro, is your external drive connected? Have you tried starting it up both with and without the external drive connected, to see if that could be a factor in the slow start?

After auto-upgrade Firefox cannot open my profile and won't start.

I am running Firefox in a corporate environment. OS is Windows 7. Whenever an auto-upgrade is pushed out by Firefox, I get a message telling me that "firefox profile cannot be loaded it may be missing or inaccessible". Indeed, the latter is the case. My profile is no longer accessible to me. I am no longer its owner, according to Windows. Looking at the directory C:\Users\{my userid}\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5a5finmq.default, I see that it's owner displays as "Unable to display current owner." and I am frozen out of Firefox. Examining this folder in Windows Explorer I cannot read, write, delete or do anything with what was once my profile.
Please don't tell me how to recreate my profile. This is a BUG and it needs to be fixed. I have a copy of an old profile and I am able to access it and transfer it into my profile directory and get up and running. BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY TIME FIREFOX DECIDES TO UPGRADE ITSELF. Why is Firefox mangling the ownership of my profile and when will this bug be fixed. I have a lot of important information in my profile and it's a pain to recreate this from scratch every time this happens.

I am sorry to hear that the auto update to Firefox on your NTFS file system/corporate environment did not preserve the user profile. I recommend using firefox sync and using a device you have admin rights to preserve the user profile.
If you have access to a previous version of the profile it can be added to the profile folder that is missing in the update. Please reference these steps to restore the old profile.

I am hoping that the sqllite file is not locked on the user directory, though this will vary on the policy of the AD of your corporate environment. [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551436] If the file is locked and this is consistent this bug does need confirming.

TB Automatically Opens Bing Settings and Add-On Settings at Startup. How to make it stop?

Heyo,
So I'm punting as tech support in my office, and don't use TB myself. What's happening is on startup, a Bing settings page and the TB add-ons page are loading in tabs in addition to the inbox tab.
X'ing the tabs individually does remove them, but I need to make them stop loading at startup for the sanity of this older gentleman.
There are no modifiers on the shortcuts to open the program, no homepages listed in options. What am I missing?

The only time that this gets messed up is when they run cleaner software like CCleaner that deletes settings because it thinks it knows best. You can set CCleaner to leave the Thunderbird, or other software, files along to stop that issue.
Glad you got it working.
The other common issue is people complaining about all the message tabs accumulating across the top of the screen and moving the Inbox tab out of view. This is because they open messages in tabs and never close them. You can right click one tabs and select Close Other Tabs and then use the x to close the last one. Then explain to them how to close tabs after reading messages. :)
