At startup recovery manager keeps loading.

Hello everyone,
Less then a month ago I purchased a a6650f with Vista 64 bit. It had been going well until earlier today. After I did several shut downs I ended up with a problem. Whenever I start up the computer HP Recovery Manager loads. I don't want to do a system recovery and lose my data. But if I click cancel, windows just continues to load and takes me back to Recovery Manager.
I can get into setup, the f8 f9, f11 etc. options. But chosing any, including safe mode just continues to load recovery manager.
Also selecting "run a computer checkup" in recovery manager (since that is the only option besides a system recovery) causes the machine to reboot and load recovery manager again.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff

Can you get into the BIOS? press tap F10 upon startup after doing a power drain (shut down --unplug power--hold on button for 7 secs to drain power -plug in again and startup) In bios push F5 reset defaults -yes-- than go to your harddrive listed --enter--enter smart support--enter short smart test-- check for error messages. If any errors you have a problem with your hardrive.
When recovery manger comes up can you click on advanced options? From there you can go to system restore. If not the recovery manger will ask if you want to backup your files before it does the recovery. Try that, if backup fails it won't go thru with the recovery either.
Let me know if anything works

  • The Add-On Manager keeps "Loading"

When I select "Add-Ons" or go to that tab, I get a Loading.... message continually. I have seen other
reports on this problem that state I should click on extensions or plugins. I have tried this however the "loading...." persists. I have let it run for hours but it never loads.
The reason I am trying to get the add-ons to load is because I have read that a certain add-on needs to be disabled in order to stop that annoying pop-up window that tells me about "Browser settings change".
That is the real problem I am trying to get rid of. A previous post says to disable the recent add-on but I can't get the add-ons to load. Hope this is not too confusing.

hello trader4300, this sounds like the files in your [[Profiles|profile folder]] that store the information about your extensions might have become corrupted. please g to firefox > help > troubleshooting information > profile - show folder... then windows explorer should open up your profile folder. in there look for the files named extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite, extensions.sqlite-journal (and in some cases also extensions.txt, extensions.rdf). delete or rename those files and quit firefox, they will be regenerated the next time you launch firefox.

  • Recovery manager did not recover specific type of files

I tried to boot the PC in "Safe Mode" by pressing F8 key at the time of boot. However PC did not boot in  "Safe Mode" .  So I booted it normally and then open "MSCONFIG" menu.  In this menu I opted for Safe Boot under advance option.  and then opted for rebooting the PC.  However PC did not booted at all.  All along it kep showing various DOS commands and then welcome Screen but thereafter PC used to crash  and back and forth these activities continued.  In order to get of this vicious cycle I tried cold booting by switching off the PC from socket.  Then when I tried to boot PC it showed two option one was for normal booting and other was for revoking the startup recovery manager menu.  Since normal booting was not possible as "MSCONFIG" menu was configured for booting in "Safe Mode'' and PC just refused to boot in "Safe Mode".  Hence only option that was left is to revoke Startup Recovey solution.  In Startup recovery menu offered two solution one was "system restore" which I tried but system could not restore to point I suggested.  I tried system resore point of older date but system could not restore that point it did displayed some error message.  Hence only option that was left was to System Recovery.   The system recovery prompted me to take backup which I took.  I saw it was copying many many files.  The size of backup on my Pen drive was about 8 GB.  Thereafter the system was recovered.  Normal booting of Windows was also restored. Now I tried to restore my data.  The data was restored.  Even outlook mails of the size of 4 GB were restored.  But on further observing the data which was in my erstwhile My Document folder I was shocked to know that certain files with extension .123, .apr, .adx, .lwp were not restored.  These files were created by my use of Lotus Smartsuite software.  I used to extensively use Lotus 1-2-3, Lotus Approach and Lotus WordPro for my work.  I also observed that .dbf files were also not restored.  Well this is a native file format like .txt and .jpeg.  Actually when one  use Lotus Approach it creates three files one is .adx file that is index file. the other is .apr file which is a database viewer file and the other is .dbf files in which all data is stored.  All such files were not resored by HP recovery Manager.  This is the problem I am facing.  I still have .exe file of the size of 8 GB on my Pen Drive.  Is there any way to restore files with extension I mentioned above ???

You are correct.  That link no longer works and I could not locate it again.  Here is a thread from the forums:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Recovery/HP-File-Recovery-Manager-has-stopped-working/td-p/1502475?send_feedback=true&thread_id=678725&clicked_thread_id=1502475I noticed in your first post "The size of backup on my Pen drive was about 8 GB. "  I have found in other comments on the forums that possibly not all files one thought were being backed were in fact backed up.  Check in the folder on the flash drive to see if the ones missing are in fact there.  The person in that above thread actually had all the files.

  • HP Envy 17-1181NR, Startup Repair / Recovery Manager / etc. not working

Okay, I've read some other similar threads made recently ("HP DV7 Recovery Issues", "HP Envy 17-2100ex") but feel I need to ask for help for my specific circumstances.
    Model: HP Envy 17-1181NR
    Product No.: YL747UA#ABA
    SN: CNF0414VRL
Hardware: 17.3" Notebook, Intel Core i7-720QM processor, 750 GB HDD, 6 GB mem ...
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Noticed computer was running really slow last night and this morning, ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manager, eventually saw that somehow (maybe with a recent upgrade?) msmpeng.exe was started and running, though I had disabled it long ago. I killed the process tree within task manager.
Looked online and read how much of a bother this msmpeng.exe can be and resolved to disable it again to keep it from starting automatically at Windows startup. So following what I read, ctrl+r, typed msconfig, used that to disable the antimalware services that launch/use msmpeng.exe and a couple other services that seemed completely unnecessary (I was 95% sure).
Restarted machine to have changes take effect, came back to it minutes later frozen at a wallpaper that's blue with light rays coming down through it, as with sunlight through water. Mouse cursor moves, but unresponsive to all keyboard and mouse button input. Later discovered this screen is the background to the Recovery Manager, which was hung...
Later discovered what had happened: that on the first restart, starting Windows normally, it reached a BSOD with message:
    "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" ...blah, blah, blah, * * * STOP: 0x000000ED (0xFFFFFA80064D8C00,0xFFFFFFFFC0000185,0x00000...,0x00000...
Which flashed for a split second before auto-restart, this time stopping at "Windows Error Recovery" screen giving choice between "Launch Startup Repair" and "Start Windows Normally" again. The former happened automatically after 30 second or whatever time delay, and then after loading files, hung at the water-screen described earlier. I can repeatably encounter these two outcomes for the two choices on the "Windows Error Recovery" screen.
Hitting escape after restart, and hitting F11 for "System Recovery" takes me to same water-screen hang point. I tried looking at system info, then doing system diagnostics, tried different scans and eventually the system tune-up scan. This failed with:
    Memory Test: PASSED
    SMART Check: PASSED
    Short DSTL FAILED
    FAILURE ID: 94UFL3-5B65QF-XD002K-6OUL03
    PRODUCT ID: YL747UA#ABA
    Hard Disk 1
This made me think of a disc error and that I can't trust Recovery Manager to be launched correctly from the recovery partition, D:, so I popped in my recovery DVD (first of 5 burned from recovery partition much earlier). Choosing repair options in the startup from this disk, after changing the boot device order in the BIOS settings (F10), brought me to the very same hanging at the water-screen.
I then tried F8 for "Advanced Boot Options" and various safe modes with the intent of reaching a command prompt to run "chkdsk /f /r" and/or "fixboot". But it can't get past loading the CLASSPNP.SYS driver. And without a command prompt now, I can't very easily copy in a pristine CLASSPNP.SYS from matching model / OS.
Is this HDD gone bad, just coincidentally with what I'd changed? Or is this a software issue as I'd be inclined to believe? Any thoughts or inputs from anyone will be much appreciated. Thanks.

So the hard disk looks good but your system files are shot.   Seeing that your recovery partitions appears to be corrupt you will have to use recovery disks to perform a factory restore and I presume you did not create them when you got the computer.
If you live in the USA/Canada, call HP at this number 1-800-334-5144, and see if you can still get a set of recovery disks.
    Otherwise via the Worldwide site:

note : i knw my english its bad hope u understand thank u

    Hey pearancencessec,
I'm sorry you're running into this issue trying to boot from the recovery partition. It sounds like the recovery partition has become corrupt and can't be booted from anymore. It is rare that a virus would affect the recovery partition but you can always order recovery discs which will work the same way. It may not be a virus it could be a hard drive failure.
First you will want to make sure your hard drive is functioning properly though. Run a hard drive test from HP F2 diagnostics.
    Turn off the computer.
Use one of the following methods:
Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until the HP System Diagnostics program opens.
    OR
Turn on the computer and immediately press the Escape key repeatedly, about once every second, until the Startup menu opens. Then press F2 .
The System Diagnostics window allows you to run several diagnostic tests. Each test determines if the hardware is functioning properly, and displays an error message and a warranty ID if there is a hardware failure.
Choose Hard Disk Test. The Smart Check, Short DST and Optimized DST all pertain to the hard drive. If any of those fail, the hard drive will need to be replaced. If they all pass, you will only need to order the recovery discs to load Windows back onto the machine.
    You can order them from:
here (if you're in the U.S.)
    OR
here (if you're outside the U.S.)
If there are any files you want to try to salvage from the drive see this post for more on recovering data from a hard drive that won't load Windows.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions

  • Recovery manager won't start for clean reinstall of Windows 7

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-110f that is 4 years old.  Everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago started getting RAID messages on startup and other little qwerky things.  Then last week the dreaded BSOD showed up.  I shut down the computer and tried to restart, but got error messages that the computer couldn't start.  I then tried everything I could think of - startup repair, tried to boot in safe mode, recovery from partitioned drive, system restore - nothing worked.  I have the recovery media from HP but was saving that as my final option.  I tried to do a clean reinstall today from the discs, but now the recovery manager won't even come up.  Can somebody PLEASE help me get my OS back?

No, it wasn't an error message.  It was just notifications about different things being accessed on port1.  I just assumed it was startup items loading, but I had never gotten notifications about them before.  I just tried again to reinstall from recovery discs.  Pressed esc and got the boot menu, selected the dvd drive and you can hear it running, then it slows down to nothing and I get no recovery manager opening.  I turned off the computer again and pressed f9 when I turned it on.  Diagnostic show processor and memory are fine, but I get an error code of "BIOHD-8" on the hard drive.  Any suggestions?

  • HP TouchSmart IQ504 trys to access but ends with the Recovery Manager Screen and freezes or locks.

    Hi Everyone,
When turning on the HP TouchSmart IQ504, it freezes or locks at the Recovery Manager Screen.  There have been some good suggestions to help with this issue, but so far, none have solved the problem.  Control + Alt + Deleter has been tried several times.  I did install some anti-virus programs before the computer failed to respond.  Have tapped the F8 key and have tried every solution it offers...nothing happens to get the TouchSmart IQ504 going again..  Have also used the esc key, F9, F10 & F11.  Nothing with any of those solves the issue.  Don't know for certain the operating system, but think it is Windows Vista.  And I can't check it now to know what operating system is installed.  Can anyone out there help.  Would appreciate that very much.
    Kindest regards,
    from Skowghee

    Hello skowghee,
I understand that you are not able to boot into windows.
    Turn off the computer.
As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
    Run the startup test.
This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • Pavilion g6-1330EO: issues in performing a factory reset...recovery manager doesn't show up!

Hi, I wanted to do a factory reset of my notebook and tried to do it through recovery manager during startup(as I can't login to my system..seems OS corrupted or something) but i just don't get the recovery manager screen.
Here is what I do and what I see on the screen:
After pressing F11 - System recovery during startup, it takes me to a screen with a progress bar saying 'Windows is loading files...' then to another screen which says..'starting windows' and ends up in a screen with nothing but just the mouse pointer. No recovery manager window is shown at all.
Can somebody pl help me in letting know what could be wrong and how can it be fixed?
    thanks!

Try testing the Hard Drive through the BIOS.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00439024&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3816360&tmp...
While you're there test everything else out.
If it doesn't allow you into the BIOS take the Hard Drive out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6agiCGktwA
Then try getting into the BIOS again.

firefox 4 freezes after i open it (keeps loading the page non-stop and i cant click or do anything, plus there is no option to report an error so i cant even get this checked and this seems to be the case on 3 different computers i use all have windows 7 32bit.

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx - No F11, Won't Boot Windows -- Recovery Manager PATH?

I am repairing an HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx for a friend. I have restored countless other computers but this one has driven me up the wall after 7 hours of trial and error and web searches.
    Here's the deal:
--The computer came with Windows Vista
--The owner upgraded it to Windows 7 this past fall
--The comptuer came in contact with malware and will not boot
--When booting, the computer will slowly attempt to load Windows, will make it to the "welcome" screen, then restart itself, creating an infinite loop
--I do have a recovery DVD for the computer; the owner burned it apparently in late 2010
--I am proficient in MS-DOS and am comfortable using the command prompt
--The command prompt is the only way I can operate this computer at the moment. I do not have access to Windows of any sort, let alone the web
--I do have two other computers here that are mine, both are Macs and one dual-boots into Windows; I do have a few flash drives and can burn optical media if necessary
The F11 key does not work on this computer to bring up the recovery manager. I know why, too--the machine was upgraded to Windows 7, which wiped out the connection between the key and the program.
My hope is that I can find the path of the recovery manager somewhere. There was a windows.old directory on the drive; I was able to change it to Windows (the existing Windows was renamed windows.scrap).
This enabled me to at least get to an OS selection screen. There were three options: 7, 7 (recovery), and Vista (recovery). None of them are able to get me into Windows. The Vista option states it is corrupt while both 7s will try to unsuccessfully repair themselves.
I can, however, access the command prompt through the Windows recovery program (NOT the HP recovery program, which I need to restore anything from either the partition on the D: drive or the DVD).
I did notice all of the files on the DVD were in .zip format once I got deep enough in a directory. I'm debating about extracting them on one of my other comptuers to see if I can just get them over on another device, but my only external hard drive is Mac formatted so I'll have to use a USB stick.
There have been queries about this out there referring to making the D: partition active. However, all of these solutions require Windows, which I cannot use. The same is true of downloads.
My biggest question--where could the recovery program be buried? I would be willing to bring files over on another device IF AND ONLY IF THEY DO NOT REQUIRE WINDOWS.
The SMINST directory within Program Files (x86) is not present.
Basically, I need a DOS-compatible, non-Windows, way to restore this computer.
I have no other Windows installation discs for the machine currently with me. Also, the COA sticker on the bottom of the computer is extremely worn and I can only read a few digits of it, so I can't use that for a restore I guess.
On a final note--the fan in this comptuer is extremely annoying; any way to turn it off besides just the switch in the BIOS that toggles whether it runs all the time?

You don't need to be in Windows to mark the D:\Recovery partition Active. Just boot with a utility cd with the disk management capability. If you don't have one_Scroll down on the page and get>> Bootable CD  If you don't have a burning app that can burn an ISO to cd get>> ImgBurn to burn the iso image to cd-a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is> Here. Once created, boot from it.
Btw-have you tried booting from his Vista Recovery DVD? With the first disc in the CD/DVD drive power on the laptop and immediately tap Esc to bring up the menu. Then tap F9 Boot options. Use the arrow key to move down & highlight the Optical drive then tap Enter key. (No key is needed with Recovery DVDs)

  • How to recover HP recovery manager after replacing a new hard drive

Recently i've got alot of BSOD saying Bad_System_Configuration_Info, and i ran a hp start up test and my hard drive failed the short DST test, so i searched online and it says that it means my hard drive is failing.

i bought the computer in US but i moved to china so im assuming that i will buy a new HDD that is not from Hp ? i dont know if this will still work cause i hear that it has to be HDD from hp to work

    Hi,
Here's an alternative option you can use.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the  same version that originally came with your notebook - ie Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.
