AT&T 2wire

I have been having problems intermittently with my wireless connection stopping and dropping while I am working on the internet. I have gone around with AT&T for over a year and now they are telling me it is my computer that is looking for other networks. Can someone help me so I am sure my network is configured optimally for this 2wire wireless hook up? I am using the airport and some days it is working just fine, other days I will have to go through network diagnostics for 4 times in 10 minutes to reconnect.

If more than one device in your house is having troubles staying connected to the 2Wire, that suggests a problem with the 2Wire. My family went through two 2Wire modem/routers in less than two years. When the second one died, I told AT&T we didn't want another one since the quality was so obviously terrible. We've switched to using an AT&T modem and a 3rd-party router. Haven't had any issues in 3 years.
If it's an option, invest in an AT&T modem and then purchase a router by Netgear, Linksys, etc instead. Otherwise, call AT&T and insist on a replacement 2Wire device to eliminate that as the source of your problem.

  • Issue with 2wire dsl router when connecting power pc g4 via ethernet

Issue with 2wire dsl router when connecting power pc g4 via ethernet. The 2wire will keep resetting. When I connect my macbook pro via ethernet to the 2wire all is ok, but as soon as i connect the power pc. . . .reset. I have emailed 2wire support. They recommended using a different patch cable. Tried that.. .. anyone else having this issue???? Any help would be appreciated. . .

Search the discussions for issues with 2wire dsl routers. This has come up before in a discussion I've been involved with, but probably not to do with the MDD. I do remember it being a design issue with the router, something that was done to it before dispatch.
Let us know if you can't find it and we'll have a look.
If you afford it, bin the 2wire and go buy something decent like a Netgear.

  • New IPad 3 will not connect to 2WIRE from AT&T

    Hi,
I just bought the new IPad and its taking me through the setup screens, when I get to the wi-fi setup I see my router (2WIRE) I click on it, I put in the password and it says "Not correct Password" I know it is the correct password, I even changed it in the router and it still says "Not correct Password" I tried putting in the passcode that is in brackets under the router and still I get "Not correct password". I also cannot get passed the initial setup prompt for wi-fi so I can go into the settings and see whats goin on. What can I do? Please help, thanks

  • Cisco ASA 5505 and 2Wire

    Hi all,
I need some help from someone who has experience with configuring VPN on ASA over 2Wire router setup as dmzplus.
    Topology:
    ASA 5505 ---- 2Wire (dmzplus) -------------- ( cloud ) -------------- 2Wire (dmzplus) ---- ASA 5505
BT is the ISP on both ends. Static IPs are currently forwarded to the firewalls on both ends (outside interface is DHCP client).
All other services are working as expected (static NAT for few ports and so on).
I have found on some other forums the solution is to setup router in full bridge mode and then configure PPPoE on ASA, but I am trying to avoid this (for few other reasons).
The weird thing is when I am trying to initiate tunnel traffic from site A I can see IKE peer responder from site B, but not the opposite.
IKE state is MM_WAIT_MSG2 so it’s not passing the phase one. What I also notice in the arp table despite only one IP is assigned per site, the BT router has IP one less than the public one.
    So my questions are:
    1.       Do I missing something in the config?
    2.       Is it possible to setup VPN on ASA over dmzplus?
    3.       Does the BT PPPoA service will become PPPoE after changing 2Wire to bridge mode?
    4.       Is there any different workaround or alternative solution?
CONFIG (crypto policies and all different settings are mirrored on the other end so it doesn’t make sense to post both):

    Hi all,
    The latest update
I've finally managed to get the VPN to work! As soon as I've reconfigure the router and the firewall it took 1 second to establish the tunnel. So the answer for the most important question number 2. Is it possible to setup VPN on ASA over dmzplus? is no. I think the issue is related to routing which doesn't look normal with the dmzplus (can't properly  traceroute to IPs etc)
    So my solution was :
    - changed 2Wire settings (Bridged LLC, ATM PVC disabled, Connection type: direct IP, save and uncheck Routing mode)
    - changed ASA external interface settings to pppoe with automatic routing and IP

  • Problems setting up WVC80N TZO account using my 2701HG-T 2Wire DSL Router

    Hi!
I have 2 WVC80N cameras and I´m using a 2701HG-T 2Wire DSL Router, they are already configured and i can see them wireless, but i tryied again and again to configure both TZO accounts and always recived the next message:
Oops, there was an error when setting up your camera for remote access.
The wizard cannot automatically configure your router due to an invalid or unknown password. Please check your password settings on your router and try again. In many cases, your router may still have the default password setting.
Can somebody help me? What i need to do? Is there another way to watch them throug internet?
    Regards!
    Ed.

That link above wont work for you, you have a WVC80N and the signup is ON THE CD, not via the website.
This error is due to the router password not working, do you know the admin PW for the router to add/remove port forwarding rules?
If not, call your ISP or whoever gave you the router and get the password then try the setup again

  • My imac and ipad2 will not connect to the internet with Windstream using an 2wire DSL modem.

Help my brand new imac and ipad2 will not connect to the internet with Windstream using an "2WIRE" DSL modem.  Windstream tech service is useless.  i can connect with the built in router through Ethernet or wireless, but still no connecting to internet, help!  windstream said everything is working on their end, yea right.  What i do know is that both the mac and ipad work at other places and can connect with wireless connected to the internet, so i know it's not the apple products.
these are brand new machines with lion.
This is my first mac, so I’m still new to how it works, which is not helping either so a detailed help would be great.  Please help before my wife losses it
    thanks

There is a 2701HG-B, and a 2701HG-D.  If not labelled on the modem, ask Windstream which one they presently supply or how to tell the difference.
By the way tell your wife it isn't that bad.  At least you have an ethernet DSL modem.  There were times where DSL modems had RJ-11, USB, and Ethernet, and all three were used to provide access.  At least now only the craziest DSL providers still use those modems.

  • How do I set up Airport extreme as a remote with Gateway 2wire as a base

I just switched over to sbcglobal from comcast. Before switching, I had been using an APE as a base station connected with ethernet to my G5 and another APE as a remote. With sbcgobal I got a Gateway 2wire modem. What I would like to know is how do I set up my APE as remote? I need this to be able get my G4 powerbook to connect. I can wireless connect using my G4 a short distance away but if I go to the other end of the house no luck. Thats why I need this remote.
    thanks

With sbcgobal I got a Gateway 2wire modem. What I would like to know is how do I set up my APE as remote?
Unfortunately, you won't be able to do this as few non-AirPort routers will work with AirPorts in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).

  • A Time Capsule, Airport Express and AT&T 2Wire walk into a bar...

Alas, I'm sure this question has been asked before, but my reserach keeps turning up separate answers.  So I thought I'd turn to this forum for some advice.  Ultimately I'm seeks suggestions on various ways to configure my network to allow easy backups, connection two rooms, and wirelessly print from anywhere.
    I have a:
Time Capsule (dual band) - used for Time Machine backups
    Airport Express (older)
    and new 2Wire 3800HGV-B wireless modem/router from AT&T (for U-verse internet/TV)
    My room configuration is:
Living room with TV, internet connected DVD player, and new AT&T 2Wire Wireless U-verse modem
Home office with 2 desktop comptuers (no wireless cards) and a USB printer.
Two roaming laptops which move around the rest of the house
The livingroom and the office can't be connected with a physical wire.
What I was hoping to do was setup my office with the Time Capsule in the office as a wired hub, and then use it as a wirelessly bridge to the 2Wire network.  But as I understand it, a Time Capsule can't be used as a bridge to a non-Apple product.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Alternately I could always get wireless cards for the desktop computers, but this leaves the printer.
I've read suggesitons of people who have used their TC as the primary router, disabling wireless on their AT&T 2Wire, and hooking the two together with ethernet.  Others who just join the TC to the 2Wireness network.  But really what I'm seeking is a way to join the two rooms.
Any thoughts?  Am I asking the right questions or providing the right information?
    Much thanks,
    dana.

So I figured I'd go with an initial suggestion and attached my TC via ethernet to the 2Wire modem/router in my living room, and make the TC my primary wireless router.
    Good plan
since both will be in the same room, I assume I need to disable wireless on the 2Wire
    Correct
What kind of configuration do I need to do on the TC, or do I just following the wizard and select 'Extend existing network'?
You can follow the guided setup or I can give you a step by step manual setup. In either case, you will configure the TC to "Create a wireless network".
("Extend" is only used if the TC connects using wireless only....you will be using Ethernet from one of the LAN <-> ports on the 2-Wire to the WAN port (world icon) on the TC.
The guided setup will normally sense that the TC is connected to another router and suggest that the TC be configured in Bridge Mode, which is the correct setting. Otherwise, select the Bridge Mode option when it is presented.
Note....If you have a newer dual band TC, the Guest Network option cannot be enabled when the TC is configured in Bridge Mode. So, if you want a "Guest" network, maybe the 2-Wire could provide that service.
Should I attach this (via ethernet) to the TC or the 2Wire?
Pick a LAN <-> port on either one, your choice, whichever is easier
What should the AT&T DVR be connected to?
I'm not familiar with an AT&T DVR, but if it connects via Ethernet, you can connect to a LAN <-> port on either the 2-Wire or the TC
For printing, my plan is to attach the printer through USB to the Airport Express and then connect that wirelessly to the TC network (though my first attempt at this failed to connect).
Suggest that you get the TC up and working smoothly. Then tackle the Express.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a wired network to 2Wire i38HG- Scanner not found, Printer fine

    Hello everyone,
I've seen multiple posts & good support regarding this error, however most seem to be in response to wireless & I am using mine wired to the 2Wire i38HG modem/router (supplied by AT&T Uverse Internet) on the 2nd port. Perhaps that's why I'm still stuck? Worked fine on my old router so I'm sure that's where the problem lies as well.
I have tried all of the guided uninstall, reinstall. Tried with min/max software loads. I have also tried assigning a static IP via manual setup on both 192.168.1.60 & .200, same issue. (verified .60 in router page, it saw printer, but computer {Windows 7 64bit} still did not see scanner). This is affecting both my wired desktop & our laptop on wireless (laptop is Win 7 32 bit).
I also did try the Print/Scan Doctor, & internal Guided solution, same circle, same issue.
And... I'm guessing it's not going to help, but in the Win 7 error popup screen, the extended error information is
    8, [(1, 0, -2147221496)]
Hoping for some advise to solve this, thank you!

    Consolidated, where's the delete?

  • How I fixed my iPhone 2wire WiFi problems.

Was having problems with my iPhone I got 2 weeks ago not being able to use the At&t 2wire 2701 router I got when I bought my phone. It would see and even say it connected to the router but when I would try to get on the internet or iTunes it would go back to the Egde network. I have been reading the topics on here and saw that alot of people are having the same problem. I was able to get it working. So thought it would be nice to let you all know how, maybe it might help some of you.
    1. forget the router address on your iPhone if you have it set up.
    2. go into the router at http://gateway.2wire.net
    3. click the "Home Network" button at the top (will ask for your password) you will see everything that is connected to the router.
    4. click on "wireless settings"
    5. might want to change the name of your network but thats up to you. The defualt channel is 1 so try changing to something else. Mine is at 8
    6. go down to the "wireless security" change to the "wpa2-psk"
    7. use a custom phrase password, they are harder to crack and I have read work better with iPhones
    8. go down to the bottom section to "additional setting" my setting are as followed
    Wireless mode 802.11b/g
    DTIM period 1
    Max connection rate 54mbps
    Power setting 10
    9. go the the bottom and press "Save"
    10. go to "advanced setting"
    11. go to the first section "Private Network" you are probably set you the default 192.168.XXXX change it to 172.16.xxx. Since this is the default means alot of people are probably using it so might be causing problems. <note by Host, not necessary, see Nathan's note below>
    12. go to the bottom and press "Save"
    13. exit browser and unplug the router for 1 min. Talked to a guy from 2wire and he said this sometimes helps when you change setting to reboot the router for the changes to becomes enforced by the router.
    14. go into setting > Wi-Fi on your iPhone and then choose your network and enter your password.
Lets hope when you connect this time you stay connected. If this helps you please let me know. Anyway hope this helps

THANKS!!! I got my phone for Christmas and have worked for 2 full days trying to get it to say connected to my 2wire. I called Apple support and they had me reset, restore and finally go to the Apple store to exchange my phone. I kept telling them I had read that this was a common problem but they seemed unfamiliar. When I got to the store, it logged on easily to their wireless network so I was told it wasn't the phone but probably something with my 2wire. They said maybe it wasn't compatible with the iphone. I came home and have worked another couple of hours when I found your post. IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!! Thanks again.

  • Problems with 2wire and SBC.

I received the 2wire HomePortal 1800HG a while back when I subscribed to SBC Yahoo DSL. It's a DSL modem/router/wireless base station combo. It's easy enough to set up on a PC, but I never used the wireless functionality except for my on PSP.
Now, when I tired setting up a second one SBC sent me on my iMac, things weren't as simple. First, the CD installs a 2wire folder with a 2wire setup app and requires that I use Internet Explorer to set it up. The CD comes with IE... for OS 9! Even worse the thing just never gets past a screen-filling "about blank" screen. So I downloaded IE for OS X and it finally worked. However, all it does is auto-configure the router and force me to add a system password for it. I can't set it up beyond that, at least not with what was on the installation CD.
It works fine when I use the ethernet cable, but I just can't get Airport to connect with it wirelessly. When I try to connect to the 2wire network using Airport, it just never works, even when I enter the password. The site says that the WEP key is printed on the bottom of the router (I think I connected using that number on my PSP) so I tried that and it doesn't work either!
So here are my questions: is this router simply not compatible with Airport cards? Or is SBC Yahoo incompatible with them? If I got the Airport Express Base Station, and plugged the ethernet cable from the Homeportal router into it, would that work? Does the Airport Extreme Base Station do everything that the Homeportal claims to do? That is, can it take a DSL signal in from the phone line and reroute it so that it's usable either by ethernet or wirelessly on my iMac?
    Thanks.

I have teh exact same issue. I cannot connect to airport, just through a wire. When i posted about this they directed me to the link below but that was useless. It says to use a 5 character or 13 character wep key, but 2 wire only allows a 10 digit one. DUH!
Good Luck, i hope you get an answer cuase then ill try to use it.

  • 2Wire Security Issues

My problems has been ongoing since December...
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: PowerBook G4 15"
    Machine Model: PowerBook5,6
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.5 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.9.1f3
    System Software Overview:
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.4 (8A451)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 8.0.0
    First symptoms:
Java Plug-in ran using JRE version 1.5.0_07 Java HotSpot(TM) ran while I was writing something in my notebook (not touching computer at all). that loaded direct proxy configuration from Netscape Navigator (which I didn't know was even on my computer). It enabled cache, hotkey's???, added referencing classloader, progress listener: GrayBoxPainter applet...'s, connecting directly to www.mmmdjs.com/fphoverx.class with proxy=DIRECT., removed GrayBoxPainter, etc.
IS THIS A NORMAL SOFTWARE UPDATE AS MAC PRO-CARE SUPPORT SAID IT PROBABLY IS?
I don't know much about the technical stuff, but I have always kept an eye on my console logs and activities. Things were wierd, so I dis-connected all internet connections, and turned off 2wire modem. I did have a home network through my Gateway PC using the 2wire. SBC said I had to do it that way in order to be able to print wirelessly from my Mac and share the same internet connection as the Gateway, so I purchased router from them. I had antivirus software on Gateway, used good passwords, had firewall enabled on my Mac with good passwords enabled wherever possible. SBC instructed my on how to install, & connected w/WEP password. Soon after, lots of odd things started happening.
Noticed other users on my home networking 2WIRE page. Settings kept changing, firewall was deselected sometimes even though I had set it the day before. My mail program on Mac started acting wierd. A folder I didn't create was in my TRASH and all my mail was re-directed through that folder. Couldn't access any of it for a few days...the mysteriously it would re-appear.
HD icon on desktop was re-named (almost what it was, but extra character).
Had automatic update updates set up, but wasn't enabled when I went to check what updates had been installed.Network Icon appeared in Finder, clicked on GET INFO: Alias from /Network, Server showed nfs://automount something...modified that day. I had read-only permissions. System Logs bursting, unknown drivers installed, options not available, network settings constantly changing, ports opened for bluetooth, Host Controller location & Drivers installed, Apple-Remote Desktop enabled as soon as I disabled.
Called 2WIRE, hard-re-set & changed all settings and passwords on router. Disabled Wireless setting on router.
GATEWAY PC is affected too. Multiple issues too, pretty much same things but from windows. Haven't turned on Gateway PC either, it is affected and to. Icon showed connected, data is going out, but browser won't let me on. Haven't even turned on since.
Noticed another partition in Disk Utility? Called Apple, as they advised, backed up with external HD & re-installed using disks. Problems NOT gone. Did erase and install, tried zero'ing out disk, didn't help. Noticed wierd iTunes script ran even before I created my account. Apple said that was normal, even though I hadn't ever seen that happen before.
Called Apple, did another re-install. No luck. Product Specialist sent Data Capture, ran and sent back. They requested another for more info. Never was given results of that scan. Advised me to bring in for HD replacement. Apple replaced hd, everything was find, secured using Security pdf apple sent me. Problems started happening soon after plugged my router power on??? Don't remember exact order, but I know it was before I directly connected through Built-in Ethernet cable.
I could go on and on. I don't know how to fix this!!! "Support" doesn't seem to ever take me seriously, even after replacing my HD and the problem coming back. Perhaps the 2WIRE is the unresolved problem? Just my guess, don't know how or why. I took snapshots of the things as they were happening to document my issues since the stuff that came out of my printer wasn't what was on my screen. It would change in the process sometimes, sometimes I would see it change. I can attach anything that might be helpful, just don't want to reviel the wrong thing (not that my security isn't already compromised, I'm sure!). I burned most things on disks as they happened and I captured them.
Can’t use Software Update under the Apple Icon, can’t update anything now.
I would appreciate ANY advice or help. I need my life back!!!!!
    THANKS.

  • 2wire problem on macbook pro 2011!

I have the most recent macbook pro and the moment I received it I have been reading through endless amounts of forum pages. My problem is my Airport being able to recognize my network but unable to get an IP address. It keeps self-assigning one and cannot connect to the internet. I have tried manually putting in the IP addresses etc, restarting both my macbook and router, adding DNS servers, and SO MUCH MORE! My macbook connects with a wire, but wirelessly... it's useless. I have to admit I havn't used every single method possible, but most of the solutions given on other forums are quite futile. On a side note, my airport utility is unable to find any airport wireless devices, if that's of any use. I do not own a Airport extreme, just a 2wire router.
    I have a 2wire 3800hgv-b running on ATT u-verse. with a macbook pro Mac OS X version 10.6.7
    PLEASE HELP!!

Can you connect elsewhere, like at your local library or internet cafe? If not, then you may have some sort of a hardware problem with your wireless card.
Can another computer or device connect to your router? If not, then there may be some sort of problem with the router. Also, check the cables and their connections, and try a different cable if you have one. Maybe try a different channel in case there is some sort of interference.
I'm not sure, but I think the Airport Utility is just for Apple branded devices, so it may not mean anything that you can't see the router.
If you find you cannot connect at all wirelessly, then contact Apple or visit an Apple Store for diagnosis. You could have an underlying hardware problem of some sort.
    Good luck!

  • Airport Extreme Base Station and 2wire Modem / Router

I have Yahoo DSL with a 2wire modem / wireless router combo. I have an iMac and a MacBook both running Leopard. I can't seem to get the Back to my Mac feature to work. I'm currently running the trial version of .Mac. I'd like to get a full .Mac account but I want to be sure I can utilize the Back to my Mac feature. If I were to bridge an Airport Extreme Base Station to the 2wire would that solve my issue with Back to my Mac. Additionally I like the idea of being able to plug a printer of external hard drive into the Airport Extreme.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I got it to work. I purchased the Airport Extreme Base Station and took the following steps which I found here http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-68141.html
First connect directly to the 2Wire with the Ethernet cable.
    Instructions from 2Wire:
    1. Clear the HomePortal to Factory State –can be accomplished two ways
    2. Go to http://homeportal/management
    3. Click on Resets
    4. Click on Reset to Factory State
    5. Click Continue
    6. Have customer press Hardware Reset button with paperclip (HG products only and BellSouth HWs)
    7. Have customer unbend a paperclip
    8. Have customer insert paperclip into recess for Hardware Reset button (outlined with Red circle) on back of HomePortal.
    9. Hold paper clip in for ten (10) full seconds
    Next steps:
    1. Go to http://homeportal/management again
    2. Click on Configure under Broadband Link
    3. Enter VPI 0 and VCI 35
    4. Click on Disable PVC Search
    5. Set Connection Type to Direct IP
    6. Click Submit/Save
    7. Have cu go to http://homeportal/management
    8. Click on Configure Services
    9. Have cu Uncheck Enable Routing
    10. Click Submit
    Airport configuration:
    1. Open the AirPort Admin Utility and select your Base Station.
    2. Click Configure and enter your password.
    3. Click the Internet tab.
    4. Choose PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) from the Connect using pop-up menu.
    5. If required by your ISP, enter your user name, password and service name in the appropriate fields. ( Your name and password is you full email including the @sbcglobal.net part and your email password)
    6. Click Update.
    7. After the base station restarts itself, quit the AirPort Admin Utility.
If that doesn’t work call apple and they should be able to help with the airport configuration.
Back to My Mac now works. Hope this helps someone else.

  • Problem setting up connection with 2wire USB adapter (BT Home Network 1200)

I keep on running into a brick wall setting up my internet connection on my newly purchased MacBook (I have never used a mac before, having used a PC for years). I am trying to set up my macbook as an additional computer on my BT Home Network 1200, and I have installed the drivers given on the 2wire CD, but even when I plug in the USB adapter, the Macbook does not seem to recognise it. The adapter looks something like this:
Anyway, the instructions given in the BT Home Network PDF manual seem to suggest that it is relatively straightforward, and that it is simply a matter of clicking the apple menu, selecting "control panels", selecting "TCP/IP", and then in the "connect via" box, clicking on the pulldown menu and selecting 2Wire PC Port. However, I am using 10.4.9 and it seems to me that this guide must have been written for an outdated version of Mac OS X because none of these instructions seem to make sense or work in the context of my macbook. At the moment, it seems like I won't be able to get my macbook online. Could someone please help explain to me how to get around this?

Any reference to 'Control Panels' will, indeed, be for Mac OS 9.x, the last version of which (9.2) was released in 2001.
My advice would be to return it to BT and ask them for an ethernet-based modem, not a USB one.
USB DSL modems have varying levels of support in Mac OS X ranging from poor to none. The fact that 2Wire doesn't include Mac OS X instructions implies that this model is at the lower end of that scale.
By comparison, an ethernet-based modem will connect to your Mac via ethernet, have the option of sharing the connection with multiple machines, typically be faster, and has an almost 100% compatibility rate.

  • AirPort Extreme vs 2WIRE

I just got my new MacBook 2 days ago, I have a 2WIRE router and haven't been able to connect wirelessly. I have tried absolutely everything (putting $ before te password, making it a public net, installing the AirPort updates...) Nothing seems to work, I just can't conect to the wireless network.
    Any ideas?

I used to be able to connect to my 2Wire and then after power outage my macbook willnot connect. Did you get a fix for your 2Wire connection problem?
