AT&T and Starbucks

I had read that AT&T was offering free wifi in starbucks for iPhones. Is this true?

I have no issues at all getting connected to either a T-Mobile HotSpot™ at Starbucks, or to the newly added AT&T WiFi access point in any location. They're separate, unrelated programs—though I have accounts for each—with the AT&T access being limited to Starbucks under the provisions of the two-hour per day Starbucks card program. I connect using nothing but a PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.4.11 and Safari 3.1.1. I've also successfully connected using Firefox 2.0.0.12 and earlier releases.
The issue you describe has nothing to do at all Mac OS X or with Safari or Firefox: it is an AT&T provisioning issue, and though both carriers blame each other, it is an AT&T issue. It should be dealt with over the course of the next few weeks as the incorporation of and transition to AT&T takes place at participating Starbucks locations.
If you want to resolve the issue, sign up for and confirm participation in the Starbucks card program from a site other than one at a Starbucks. One where you can receive the confirmation electronic mail message from AT&T. Or, reset your account password if you have already created an account, with an AT&T representative on the telephone at (888) 888 7520 while physically at an alternative (read: non-A&T) location where you can deal with the confirmation electronic mail message. When you want access at Starbucks, choose the tmobile SSID and not the attwifi SSID, then press the AT&T logo in the upper right of the T-Mobile page which appears, in order to proceed.

  • AT&T and Starbucks free WiFi???

I have an iPhone account and was under the impression as such that I would be able to get free WIFI at Starbucks on my iPad. However, I cannot log on. What am I missing? I am trying to save on my 3G usage and speed things up at the same time.

    ArmyOfOne33W wrote:
I can confirm that. In Colorado Springs I've used my iPad at three different Starbucks. Connects right up after the first time I setup attwifi network. I do have the 250mb per month 3g plan. I didn't know that that is what allows this. I know I've used more then 2 hours last Saturday as well.
Since I got the cheaper plan, I've been very careful to turn off the cellular whenever I don't want it to use that. I was a bit shocked how fast you can burn through 250mb just surfing.
Well, I don't know what I am missing then as I have the 3G. When I try to connect to the Starbucks WiFi it takes me to a AT&T page and asks me to authenticate? Nothing automatic, that's for sure. I wish I could put up a picture of the screen. I've tried over and over. It is very confusing. I have to be missing something. Could it be free some places and not others? Do I need to create a AT&T account or login?

  • ITunes, iPhone, and Starbucks Wi-Fi

I have confirmed this error with another user. We were at two seperate Starbucks locations and both experienced the same error when accessing iTunes from he free AT&T wi-fi at participating starbucks locations. You launch iTunes and the Starbucks symbol shows and attempts to load. The iTunes application doesn't seem to be able to process the connection and begings to flicker between the loading symbol and the actual starbucks section of the iTunes application. Anyone else experience this? Is there a work around or solution?

Didn't think the question was about WiFi, but yes, it does work (I have AT&T higher speed DSL so I use that login so I'm not limited to 2 hours) and I've used Easy WiFi since it was released.
As far as the Starbucks music, on my Touch/iPhone 3G I get the flickering logo that the OP describes, if I go to iTunes on my laptop at Starbucks it tells me that the feature is not available at this time.
My personal opinion: I'll never see it working at any Starbucks in my area, I think the program will quietly go away.

  • ATT and Starbucks to offer "free" wifi

I read this in the NY Times this morning :>)
    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/12/technology/12sbux.html?_r=1&ref=business&oref= slogin
SEATTLE (AP) — Starbucks and AT&T said Monday that they would start offering a mix of free and paid wireless Internet service in most of Starbucks’s American shops, beginning this spring.

Bits: Cheaper Wi-Fi Access at Starbucks (February 11, 2008)
The move ends a six-year partnership with T-Mobile, which did not include free Wi-Fi and charged higher fees than AT&T will.
Starbucks said it would give customers who use a Starbucks card two hours of free wireless access a day. An additional two-hour session will cost $3.99; monthly memberships will cost $19.99 and include access to any of AT&T’s 70,000 hot spots worldwide.
Nearly all of AT&T’s broadband Internet customers, about 12 million people, will automatically have unlimited free Wi-Fi access at Starbucks, the companies said. The deal will increase the number of AT&T hot spots in the United States to 17,000.
Current T-Mobile HotSpot customers — who pay $6 for an hourlong session, $9.99 for a day pass and $39.99 a month for unlimited access — will get Wi-Fi access at no extra charge through an agreement between AT&T and T-Mobile.
Chris Bruzzo, Starbucks’s chief technology officer, would not disclose how many customers used the T-Mobile service in Starbucks stores, but said he expected many more would use the new service. Starbucks will start introducing it this spring and aims to have it available in its more than 7,000 company-operated domestic stores by the end of the year.
Robert Toomey, an analyst with E. K. Riley Investments, said it was smart for Starbucks to link the new Wi-Fi service to its purchase card, which tens of millions of people use to buy their mochas and lattes, he said.
“I think it’s a double positive for both product sales and traffic,” Mr. Toomey said.

I heard that as a rumor, but who knows.
I'm sure you'll have more time than us freeloaders

  • Security Update 2006-001, Mail, and Starbucks

Anybody else having a problem with Mail becoming erratic since the latest security update? I'm fine at home as far as I can tell but while using the T-Mobile HotSpot at Starbucks Mail takes forever to open the mailbox, sent mail will briefly appear in the Sent box (if it goes out at all) and then quickly disappear and it never does completely open the INBOX.

The secuirty update seems to be affecting both Mac Mail and Entourage. A temporary solution for email users connecting VIA IMAP would be to use Thunderbird at this time. Until Apple comes out with a fix for this, there should be a lot of errors that you will experience. Mainly being kicked offline, but when running entourage you will also notice messages coming in as deleted, and then removed from the server. The safest solution for now is Thunderbird. Try it out. Hopefully the guys over at the software department have figured out that they royally messed up, and will have a fixed update for this shortly.
I'm not exactly sure where the port 587 comes into play with IMAP, as it has nothing to do with it. You can try connecting via SSL and changing the incoming port to 993 if your service provider has this option. Also, changing the root to Inbox doesn't seem to help. It doesn't look like a server issue, but a Mac Mail/Entourage issue with connecting to them.

  • IPad WiFi and Starbucks-  Not automatic?

I could have sworn I heard that the WiFi iPad would automatically access available Starbucks AT&T networks. I visited Starbucks today and it prompted me to their page to "sign up." Anybody know if it is supposed to work like an iPhone?

Not only do we have to pay at Starbucks for our iPad wifi, but AT&T's little web site to log in doesn't make doing it with the iPad any easier. I found that I have to first go to the Settings app and through Wifi select the AT&T wifi connection. Only then will it go to the web site to log in. Then it takes awhile. Then you have to not only log in each time with your user name and password (it refuses to remember them) but you also have to select from a drop down list the service you're logging into and then remember to also check that damned "I accept AT&T's blah blah blah." if you don't, you'll have to wait and wait until AT&T gets around to finally telling you that you forgot to check the box. Then you have to fill it in all over again.
Thanks, AT&T for once again making our lives so simple!

  • Itunes wifi and starbucks

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask these questions, so apologies in advance if it isn't.
    1. Am I able to redeem the free "song of the day" from starbucks over my itunes wifi store on my iphone or strictly through my itunes on my computer?
    2. When at starbucks, do I need a hotspot account (with t-mobile) in order to access the itunes wifi on my iphone?
    much obliged!

Check this link which I believe answers both questions.

  • HT202696 What happens if Apple Support expires for a product?  Does it mean there is no more help available and you are on your own just because you have an older Apple product?

We have a family of Apple products at home, and with every new one, we learn a new aspect of the Apple Life.  After switching to iPhone 5S and struggling between some applications, I've decided it is time to upgrade rest of my older devices requesting an IOS Upgrade to 8.1.2 for weeks.
My older iPhone 4 didn't have an upgrade, which was not advanced enough anymore to carry a new software, this I understand.  The upgraded iPod Touch and iPad Mini don't seem to have any problems with the recent changes so far.  However, the older iPad (2) we had is messed up, just like many other people's as mentioned on the pages of these discussion groups.  According to these user comments / complaints, it is obvious that upgrading to IOS 8.1.2 was not the right option to older version iPads just like it was not for iPhone 4; actually it shouldn't be an option in the first place.
On my previous problems with iPhone 5S, I've come to realise the practicality & functionality of the Apple Support system when contacted directly, instead of going through many discussion pages of people with same or similar problems where everybody is asking but just a few is replying.  So, I wanted to give it a try to find a solution to my recent problems with iPad, but this time Apple Support pages replied with "Technical Support & Service Coverage are both Expired" message.
First, I did not know that Apple supported its users personally, and I loved it.  Maybe this is because I didn't have previous problems with my old iPhone and iPad.  Especially the Apple Support - Chat option I preferred, where I got help step-by-step from Apple operators.  And then, I did not know that this service support was only for my devices until an expiration date, and this did not please me much.
Can anyone enlighten me on how to receive any response from Apple about what to do with problems of an old Apple device?

And as far as paying for phone support, here are a few tips:
If you call your carrier first and then they route you to Apple, you usually don't have to pay for phone support.
If you are talking to Apple and they ask you to pay a support fee, ask if you can get an exception this time.  That usually works once, but they keep track of the times you've been granted such an exception.
If you still end up paying the support fee, that fee only applies if it's not a hardware related issue.  In other words, if it can be fixed by just talking over the phone and following Apple's instructions, then the fee applies.  But if your device is deemed to have a hardware failure that caused the issue, then the fee should not apply, and you can ask for it to be waived after the fact.
This forum is free, and almost all of the technical support articles the Apple tech advisors use are available on this website.  Literally 99% of what they can do over the phone is just walking you through the publicly available support articles.  In other words, you're paying the fee to have them do your research for you.  It's like hiring a research consultant to go look stuff up in the public library so you don't have to.  You're capable of doing it; you'd just rather pay someone to do it for you.
It's like Starbucks.  You know how to make coffee.  Everyone knows how to make coffee.  And Starbucks coffee isn't any better than what you could make at home for far less.  But you want the convenience.  So you're really paying a convenience fee.  Milk is more expensive at 7-Eleven than it is at the grocery store... because it's a convenience store.

  • I have an iphone 4 and bought a 4s for my daughter last summer, she didn't like it, so i gave it to my other daughter. We have reset the 4s and my younger daughter, put the appleid she had was using with her ipod touch so i can no longer locate her phone

I try changing appleid in general and all icloud and other settings but hers always come back. Is there a way i could change that and it stays there so i don't have to erase and download everything that a 12 year old kid could download in 24 hours?
    Please help me it's capital!

I read the article thanks.   I tried the settings-general-reset-reset network settings-reboot system-go to wifi settings-select wireless connection-select the ">"-symbol-select auto for http proxy.   I was optimistic about that because I thought I changed some setting somehow to cause this problem, but it didn't work.  More specifically, I did connect successfully and browsed the Internet for a good while, but then I put down the phone for a minute, the phone went into sleep/power save mode, and when I picked it back up a moment later it was no longer connected.  Dang.   Had to select the connection and use my password yet again.
Another valuable bit of info for you.   The only network with which I have this problem is my home.   I use all kinds of devices at home and no other devices have this problem.  Also, I use this iPhone all over with various wifi networks at hotels and starbucks and family's homes with no issues whatsoever.  It remembers and automatically reconnects with every wireless network except the one in my own house.

  • N95 Wifi, home network and hidden access points

    Hello-
Just picked up a N95 and having some problems. First, my home network doesn't broadcast a SSID. I stumbled across the home network option and was able to configure it. However, it's never an option when I need an internet connection; e.g., it never shows up in the wlan list.
So, how do I congigure a hidden access point so I can use it? The user guide says you should be able to do it manually, but doesn't go into any details.
Secondly, exactly what is the home network setting for and why is it separate from the other wlan settings?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    Jay,
I too have a hidden network (SSID not broadcast), the N95 seems to have a problem with this. It may or may not show up on the active standby screen (on my Voda N95, it shows up when I take my sim out!).
To configure your accesss point :-
Tools / Settings / Connection / Access Points
then Options / New access point
    Connection name
(enter a name, whatever you want to call it)
    Data bearer
    =wireless LAN
    WLAN network name
    (enter your SSID here)
    Network Status
    (public or hidden)
    WLAN network mode
(Infrastructure or ad-hoc. If you're using a router, infracstructure should be the one you want)
    WLAN security mode
(Open, WEP, 802.1x or WPA2. Check your router)
    WLAN security settings
    WPA/WPA2
EAP or Pre-shared key (consult your router)
EAP plug-in settings or Pre-shared key
(which one you get depends on what you set above)
    WPA2 only mode
    (leave alone)
Having done all this it still won't show on the active-standy screen (at least it doesn't on mine) in the WLAN section BUT if you know try and surf the web it should ask which access point you want to use - assuming you've got it set to 'always ask'. What this seems to do is only list the connections that it can find (i.e if you've got a 'Starbucks' and a 'home' connection defined, it'll only show 'home' at home and 'Starbucks' when you're getting your latte. The standby screen may show, how to decribe it, a four leaf clover near to the battery level indicator, this is the indication that it's either found or connected to your wireless lan.
I think the 'Home netw.' option is for use with the Home Media Server application supplied on the CD. I haven't tried it so can't confirm for sure.
    Hope this helps,
    Simon

  • FREE WIFI AT CAMPING AND CARAVAN CLUB SITES

When I signed up for BT broadband one of the main attractions was that free wifi would be available to BT customers at C&C Club sites. So far I have tried recently to connect at four C&C club sites with no luck, the only way I could connect was by buying expensive vouchers. For instance if you search BT Hotspots for Dartmouth it says that the C&C Club site at Stoke Fleming is a BT Hotspot - I stayed there last week and the only way I could get Wifi there was to buy vouchers at £2 a day!!!

This is a recent press release from BT re C&CC Wifi
    Happy Campers to Get Wi-Fi!
BT Openzone will provide Wi-Fi access at major UK holiday and leisure parks including 77 Camping and Caravanning Club sites, three Pontin's sites plus locations at Coastfields Leisure sites in Skegness through a new partnership with Wicoms it announced today.
With more Brits opting for a 'staycation' this summer, the anticipated 50,000 visitors expected at the sites over the August bank holiday can surf, game or make cheap VoIP calls regardless of the weather. BT Openzone users can use any wireless-enabled device to connect to the service via the BT Openzone landing page.
Chris Bruce, general manager, BT Openzone said: "Having the option to get online and stay entertained will provide a useful 'plan B' if the weather does its worst, and being able to look up tourist information and hunt out local gems will make for a better trip."
The service is inclusive/at no extra cost for 4.8 million BT broadband customers with inclusive BT FON Wi-Fi minutes, BT Openzone subscribers, plus O2 iPhone and mobile broadband users with inclusive Wi-Fi minutes in their contracts. Other users can buy a BT Openzone voucher online at www.btopenzone.com, with access from as little as ½p per minute.
Simon Davies, chief technology officer, Wicoms, said: "Lots of Brits have stayed in the UK rather than head overseas this year. Families tell us that holiday sites are another location where they want to get online. Teenagers and gadget addicts are set to be heavy users."
BT is seeing huge demand for Wi-Fi in the leisure and hospitality sector. Customers can also connect at more than 400,000 residential and commercial hotspots in the UK and Ireland including BAA airports, BA lounges, Cafe Nero, Hilton, Thistle and Ramada Jarvis hotels and Starbucks coffee stores.

  • Configuring Netgear FVS318 VPN for iPhone and Mac OS X clients.

    Hi,
I am trying to configure the FVS318 VPN for iPhone and Mac clients to connect to. I have been able to set it up that all hard wired and wireless connections with in the network to connect seemlessly, but when it comes to VPN I am not able to get any connection from outside the network. I have set all the usernames, passwords and shared secrets multiple times and I am unable to connect even after reseting it. Any help setting this would be great.
    Thanks

Are you using your external IP address to set this up? This works while on the network, as in at the office but not from any connection outside? What IP scheme are you using on the Netgear? If you are using something like 192.168.1.1 and starbucks uses the same scheme it wont work. Try setting your Netgear to something like 192.168.33.1

  • Iphone 6 LTE AND WIFI ISSUE

me and my friend both using iphone 6 but his LTE AND WIFI works smoothly But mine doesn work that well! watching the same video using LTE he can watch but i cant even load the video! WHY? any help?
AT first i was on iso 8  LTE AND WIFI really *** , so i upgraded it to ios 8.0.2  but still the same, and my friend's iphone6 stays in 8 but works fine !
i have reset the network it doesn fix the problem either.

I have this exact same issue with the iPhone 6 Plus. After numerous calls to AppleCare several resets and restore restores from backup, restore as new, and visits to the Genius Bar at the Apple store, Apple dose not appear to have an answer yet. This is happening on all Wi-Fi networks home, Xfinity, Apple Store, and Starbucks. It does not appear to be related to the Wi-Fi network in use. I have been asked to give it a week and see if it gets better but somehow I do not think this is going to work. The Apple Store has even replace my phone and I still experience the same issues.
    What am I missing?

  • Ok geniuses, I have a problem that I am fairly certain is user error somehow.   I have an iPhone 4S.   I have a linksys router.   My wifi runs fine with every device in the house.   However, ONLY on my iPhone, it ALWAYS makes me put my password in.

We have another iPhone 4 in the house and it reconnects to the wifi just fine.  The kindle, the laptop, the Xbox all reconnect fine.  However, for some reason, my iPhone 4S makes me type in the wifi password multiple times a day.   It will connect and works fine while connected.   However, if I let it go to sleep, when I unlock the screen my wifi is "not connected".   I have to deselect the router and retype the password.   If something is using wifi like I heart radio or pandora or an update is downloading, it won't switch off the wifi, but in any other circumstance if the screen locks up and goes to sleep, when I unlock it I will need to reselect my network and retype the password.  I have been dealing with this for months and have googled several times for a solution with no success.  I'm pretty sure that when I was first setting up the wifi, I changed some setting on either the phone or the
router, but of course I can't figure out what I might have done.  Please help!
