AT&T DSL Modem compatible with Airport wireless router?

I recently switched from cable internet to at&t DSL. I connected the DSL modem directly to the computer and followed all instructions for set up (per instruction from AT&T). Now I need to connect the DSL modem directly to the airport router to get wireless, but when I do this the computer doesn't recognize any internet source. What do I need to change to make this work?
Thanks in advance!

"ATT tech support helped as I got it set up in BRIDGE mode so my Apple Time Capsule could be the router."
It sounds like you set the Time Capsule up in Bridge Mode, which would mean that the 2wire was doing the routing, not the Time Capsule.
To verify, open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup and click on the Internet icon. Check Connection Sharing at the bottom to see how your Time Capsule is configured.
I don't have a dual band Time Capsule, so I can't give you a good answer about whether using the TC in bridge mode would cause problems setting up the second "guest" network.
Since each network would require an IP address and the 2wire is assigning them, there might be an issue there. This would really be a question for Apple support or perhaps another user has configured their system this way and can provide some input.

  • Is a D-Link 300T ADSL modem compatible with Airport Extreme?

I have tried to upgrade my existing Broadband (Ethernet) connection to WiFi and cannot get it to work. I have plugged the Extreme into the Ethernet port in the modem and gone through Airport Setup Assistant and it does not seem to work. I am using DHCP which seems to be capturing the IP address the service provider (Demon) gave me. Am I doing something wrong or is the modem incompatible? I have the latest Airport software upgrade 2005-001.

  • Connecting dsl modem to a linksys wireless router

I recently became a dsl user and I have a linksys router that I used for college I connected them the same as at college but the modem does not seem to be transmitting a single to the router. It usually comes up limited or no connectivity and when it does connect there is still not sending a internet single. If anyone out there can help me it would be muck appreciated. Thanks

Who is your ISP? Make sure you are online with modem directly. If yes, change router's local IP address to 192.168.2.1 keeping internet connection type as automatic DHCP. Reboot modem and router once and it should work.

Hi..I have an AirPort Extreme base connected to my DSL Modem and has been working fine. But I recently bought another DSL modem along with the latest Airport Express. With this one however I can't get it to connect to the Internet. The light on the Express is flashing green though. Does it mean I have to re-set the settings on Airport Utility? I.e. the old settings haven't been cleared yet. Any suggestions?

Let's see if I can get this straight.
You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...
    Correct?
    See this Apple document:

The wireless unit on the right of the diagram can be either of the newer Apple base stations.

  • HT1331 I just bought a airport wireless router I have a time warner cable modem. I have hook up the modem correctly to my new apple airport router and my modem is not working with the apple airport router. what do i need to do?

I just bought a airport wireless route and I have a time warner modem. My problem is my modem is not connecting to my apple airport router. What do I need to do?

Power cycle the cable modem.. you may try leaving it off 5min.. might be enough.. sometimes you need 15min or even longer.. Followed by power cycle of the AE.
Nothing else should be connected to the modem.. except the router that will get the public IP as they only hand out ONE>

  • I'm looking for a list of printers compatible with Airport Extreme

My existing HP printer is not compatible with Airport Extreme and I want to be able to print from all of my Apple devices. I'm looking for a new photo quality printer / scanner / copier which will work wirelessly with all my devices.

Sorry, but there is no "official" list of printers that Apple provides that indicate which are fully functional with the AirPorts. One "unofficial" list has been maintained by iFelix and may be worth taking a look at.

I have an i Mac with airport wireless. What steps do I need to take to change name of wireless(airport)???

You should use Airport Utility, in your Utilities folder (or you can search for it in Spotlight, the magnifying glass in the top right of your screen) to administer the Airport. There, you can change the wireless network settings, including the network name.

  • ADSL Modem Compatible with AEBS

I'd be grateful if anyone could recommend an ADSL modem compatible with AEBS. The NetGear ADSL 2+ Ethernet Modem advertised in the Online Store is very poorly rated.

Pretty much any ADSL modem that provides a regular internet connection with an RJ-45 cable would work with the AEBSn. More importantly you should ensure that the ADSL modem you purchase is compatible with your ISP ADSL connection. In most cases, the ISP provides a "custom" version of a ADSL retail modem with firmware modified for ISP tech support.

You can just unplug the express and use the Uverse wireless or ethernet directly to it.

  • Switched from DSL to CABLE. WRT54G Wireless Router stopped working.

When I switched from DSL to CABLE, my WRT54G Wireless Router stopped working. I am not able to access the router page (192.168.1.1) Also, when I use the set up CD for re-installation, the wizard aborts in the middle saying it can not connect.
I appreciate any help to resolve this problem.
P.S. The router acts like a one-port wired router.

Here is my favorite method for resetting a router to factory defaults, and trying to get it working again.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

Very few 3rd party wireless extenders will work with an Apple router, so your best bet is always to use an extender that is the same brand as the main router. An AirPort Express is a popular choice for this type of application with another Apple router.
If you had a Cisco router, then a Cisco extender would be your best bet.  Same for Netgear, etc.
But......a wireless extender can only "extend" the quality of wireless signal that it receives, and not much of a wireless signal is going to make it through a brick wall, so whether any extender might do what you want is open to question.
You won't know whether an extender using wireless to connect will work to your satisfaction in your home until you actually try it out in your home.
The performance will always be much better if you can connect the extending device back to the main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection.
If it is not possible to run the Ethernet cable, a pair of Ethernet power line adapters might be able to send the signal over the existing AC power lines in your home. The theory with these devices is that you already have the wiring in place, you just need the adapters.
In practice though, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest, so if you decide to try a pair of adapters, it might be a good idea to understand the store's return policies before you buy.
