AT&T Yahoo e-mail issues on iPhone: POP vs. IMAP

So, I'm having the same two problems mentioned in other threads here regarding Yahoo! mail and iPhone, but I've got a third issue/observation, and I'm wondering if it's a partial cause of the problem.
First, a recap: Yahoo! mail (or, in my case, AT&T Yahoo! mail, which is the fully featured version that comes with my DSL account) does not push e-mails as it should and may randomly delete e-mail (though I'm not positive that's happened to me...)
Now, the new wrinkle: My e-mail at home is set up to use Yahoo's POP3 servers. I use Eudora rather than Mail.app, so I didn't synch the iPhone to the account (not possible): Instead, I created a new account on the iPhone and entered the relevant information. Once I had tapped Y! Mail, there was no option to choose between POP3 and IMAP, and now my phone thinks it's accessing an IMAP account, which it is not.
Could this be the source of the problem?

That doesn't help, really. I understand the difference between POP and IMAP, and I've chosen to use POP. The question is: What are the consequences of the fact that the iPhone forces me to use IMAP to access an account that both my desktop computer and my ISP believe to be a POP account?
Note, moreover, that the first link you provided indicates that the server to use with an account like mine is "pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com," so Apple too believes that it is a POP account. (That's not actually true: it should be pop.att.yahoo.com; pop.sbcglobal... is an outdated name, but that's not important right now. Or is it?)
But the iPhone automatically treats any e-mail account set up as a Y! Mail account as IMAP, and I can see no option to change that anywhere in Settings, once you've specified a Y! Mail account. Is the fix simply to set up a new account, choose "Other" rather than "Y! Mail," and configure it properly?

Is anyone else having issues with Y! mail or any other Pop mail on their iPhones?

Ok, got it fixed. I had to go into Inbox on iPhone (which was blank with no messages) and do a search to a known message that was present in Inbox (I confirmed via Yahoo mail on computer) then open the message and poof, it all started working. Not sure what was causing problem but it seemed to flush whatever problem it was on the POP server. Doesn't Apple host their own POP servers for the big e-mail providers, e.g. Yahoo, Gmail, etc.?

Are there Yahoo! Mail badges for iPhone 4?

I just got an iPhone 4 and configured my Yahoo account to receive mails on my iPhone. Ever since, I've had the following issues:
1. When I get a new email message, a sound can be heard, but in those cases I don't hear the ding sound, I'm unable to realise I got a new email because...
2. Whenever a new email is received, there is no badge displayed on the blocked iPhone screen (I mean, there is nothing similar to the badges displayed when getting a new mention on the Twitter for iPhone app or the Facebook for iPhone app).
3. The unread messages count on the "Mail" badge is incorrect. Even if I tap the mail icon, and the new emails received are downloaded but unread, the total number of unread emails won't change.
As for my settings, I have the push option on, and even the "Fetch every 15 minutes" option is checked, although Yahoo Mail is not supposed to depend on that... Honestly, it's impractical having to tap the "mail" icon in order to see if I got new emails, just because it's visually unreliable and even impossible to be sure that you got new messages.

Apple will supposedly have 'bumper's on hand that day. I'm not sure I like the bumper as I would prefer a full protective case. Our local mall has a kiosk vendor who has the best selection of iPhone cases and I stopped by yesterday and he said he'd have iPhone 4 cases in stock by Wednesday. You might want to check some of the Kiosk's in your area to see if they'll have any.
I'm not sure about screen protectors. When I spoke with someone from Apple, they said they don't recommend them on the new phone. The glass is supposely much less prone to smudges and that's why I use one on my 3G. I hate to wipe smudges off non-stop. But, the Kiosk guy told me he'd have screen protectors in stock as well........

I don't need "mobileme" to receive push email, correct? Doesn't Yahoo already support push email with the iPhone?

You can access a free Yahoo account with the iPhone's Mail client, which you can't access with any other email client at least for U.S. residents.
Using the Yahoo account preset on the iPhone when creating the account creates the account as an IMAP account which supports the push protocol. You can enable or disable push access on the iPhone. Disabling push access requires fetching or a manual check for new messages.
You can access a MobileMe account with another email client on your computer keeping all server stored mailboxes synchronized with both email clients used to access the account, which isn't possible with a free Yahoo account.

Yahoo! mail same on iPhone as in Mail client?

I have a lot of mailing lists that I subscribe to, so in order to get my mail filtered into folders on my iPhone, I had to set up filters on the Yahoo page (this is an old swbell.net account, the old, old Att). So when I get mail via the built in Yahoo settings (imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com), I get everything filtered out and in the appropriate folders on the iPhone.
However, now that I've filtered things on the server side, I can't get Mail to recognize this (it's still POP). So now I only have mail on the iPhone, not on the computer. I tried to set Mail up to use imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com but that didn't work. Any ideas about how to get my server-side filtered mail on both my desktop and my iPhone?
This is pretty frustrating, I'd rather they put rule support into the iPhone's mail client.

You can't - not with a free Yahoo IMAP account which can be accessed via the Push protocol or standard IMAP with the iPhone's email client only since it is free.
If you want to access the account with an email client on your computer as well as with the iPhone's email client, you need to continue accessing the account as a POP account with both.

Yahoo e-Mail on new iPhone

Help! I have tried several times to input my existing yahoo e-mail address and password and I continually get an error message that states user name or password incorrect. I have not made any errors. Is there a secret to this?

Mail 3.2, Gmail and iPhone POP and IMAP Problems

This is a Mail problem but I am pretty sure it has something to do with the iphone as well....
Here's the deal:
Up until a week ago I used this setup:
1. My gmail account has had pop and imap enabled for all mail and it kept the email on the server
2. My mail client on my MBP C2duo on Leopard 10.5.2 was setup to retrieve email from gmail using pop
3. My 1.1.1 iPhone was setup to retrieve email from gmail using pop as well
4. Gmail account was being also synchronised between MBP and iphone through the appropriate tab in itunes.
RESULT: mail would pop to both clients as new mail and I would have to mark it as read in each client. I like that cause there are certain messages I read on my MBP and some others on my iphone.
About a week ago I upgraded my iphone to 1.1.3 and that's when the problems started:
a) It appears that the iphone is now setup to gmail's IMAP by default. So I delete the account and create one manually to work as pop
1. So now I have an iphone setup to retrieve with pop.
2. My MAil client on the MBP is still set to pop
3. Gmail settings remain untouched
PROBLEM: Everything is setup as pop but acts as IMAP ?!!?!
Whichever client gets an email message first that message will not appear on the other client.
Basically if my iphone catches an emai while my MBP is asleep i'll never get it in my inbox on the MBP and vice versa
Please help me out... It's the first time an Apple product makes me feel like a good ol windows user again
FAILED SOLUTIONS:
1. I tried deleting the iphone account and creating it from scratch making sure it's setup correctly
2. I tried disabling IMAP from gmail's settings
3. I tried disabling and re-enabling pop from gmail's settings
4. I tried using gmail's recent mode that forces a download of all recent (30 days) mail
5. I have repaired permissions, rebooted etc etc
Nothing changed
I have now deleted the gmail account from the MBP, re-created it and await while it re-downloads al 6000 messages before I try re-creating the account on the iphone but sth tells me it wont change anything.
Sorry for the extreme length of this post. Any help would be appreciated

But I'm not using IMAP. I never used IMAP and I do not want to use IMAP. The reason being that I know all about the problems you speak of.
I just can't get POP working as it did before the 1.1.3 update. It's really frustrating

Mail: change Gmail from POP to IMAP without loosing old mail

My Gmail account setup in Mail is old enough to be POP. Want to change it to IMAP for easier syncing between Mail on Mac, iPhone and iPad. All instructions on Google site just say to delete the POP account in Mail and create a new Gmail IMAP account. Unfortunately, trying to delete the POP account immediately warns that all emails related to that account will be deleted if the account is deleted.
How do I make the change from POP to IMAP in Mail and still retain all my past emails on the Mac (most of them are long gone from Google servers)?

The warning about the deletion of the mails of the account in question can only refer to the inbox. No email you have archived or put into a different folder will be deleted. If you're still worried back everything up before going ahead.

Since Yosemite Install Mail has reverted to POP from IMAP

I noticed that my Comcast Mail account now functions like a POP mail not IMAP. This happened when I upgraded to Yosemite. I checked my Comcast Mail parameters and everything looks OK. But as a result I now have to delete my mail from both my iMac and my iPhone.
Any ideas?

I have seen all the early responses to how to fix AOL mail issues on Iphones, however no mater how many smpt servers I set up or on .... I can not get AOL mail to send from my Iphone 5, running IOS 6. I have an Iphone 4 running IOS6 and it works fine...

I can not get the Iphone 5 to send out aol mail. I have added the extra smtp server as suggested and it still will not send mail.

I am having the same problem. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I called apple restored my phone to its original and it did not work :-( Now it seems like it worked for a bit than stopped again. Now I have to contact Apple again to set up an appointment at an Apple store because it may be an issue with my phone. I have only had it for a week and half!

It's just (10:53) been confirmed to me over the phone with 02 iPhone support that there is an email server down at Yahoo which is affecting iPhone email access for accounts set up on your iPhone with the Add Account - Yahoo Mail wizard.
There is NO estimation for a fix time, but support advised you to access your email via the safari browser (if you are mobile) and web access during this down time. Just go to http://new.m.yahoo.com

Exchange e-mail issues and iPhone 4s

When I send or reply to a message from the iPhone it automatically saves the sent message on my exchange server – this is very annoying as I only ever save messages I need responses to – can this be stopped?

Switching mail set-up from POP to IMAP

I have set-up mail with a MobileMe account and another e-mail account in POP mode. I am about to buy a iPhone and need to change the set-up to IMAP. Are there any do's and don'ts in making this change or any advice that anyone might have? I am particularly concerned that when I delete the pop account set-up's that I might lose my e-mail history!

how did you manage to set up mobileme as POP? you have to go out of your way to do that. it's created as IMAP by default.
the main thing to remember is that when you delete an account all mailboxes associated with that account are immediately deleted. so before you delete your POP accounts make local mailboxes in 'on my mac" section" and copy anything you want to keep from inbox and sent mailboxes to the local mailboxes. then delete the accounts from mail preferences->accounts and recreate them as IMAP. for mobileme you don't really need to recreate it by hand. just delete the POP one and restart mail. provided you are logged into mobileme it should recreate that account as IMAP.
as for the other account you'll have to recreate it as IMAP yourself. of course, your email provider has to provide IMAP access to it. does it? if not you won't be able to do it.
